One Lifetime

A poem from Erik's point of view on how life is with Christine before she leaves. Dedicated to Phantom Aria and The Phantom Parisienne for their helpful advice, enthusiasm and constructive criticism.

Day

The time when the sun shines

The birds sing

And the people walk about, freely openly expressing their love

But not us

We hide from the world in utter darkness

We are pain

And also forbidden love

We live in misery yet the way we feel binds us

The way we live doesn't matter

The others don't matter

What matters is the music

What matters is the undeniable passion

Which burns in your eyes and frees itself when you sing for me

What matters is our love

This one lifetime in which we share

A few precious hours of this day

Night

The time when we are free

The time when we can express our love to the world

When we make our music

And when you let me hold you, though the spell my voice has over you

Is the only thing preventing chaos

We are eagles

Soaring over mountains and trees

Soaring over rivers and lakes

Watching the others love each other

Secretly glancing at each other and smiling

Two feelings

Fear

And happiness

Combined into one being

One love

One lifetime

I hope it didn't suck, the whole eagle metaphor was pretty spontaneous and in case you didn't understand it, here is the real verse.

We are people

Singing our songs from distant lands

Yet singing of our land too

Watching others love each other

And glancing past the curtain, seeing love in each others own eyes

Two people

Erik

And Christine

Combined into one being

One love

One lifetime
