AN: I'm not sure how much sense this makes. It was written at 2 o clock in the morning after a very stressful day. It's kind of a stream-of-consciousness type deal with Gene being contemplative. It was suppose to be leaning towards Gene's sense of responsibility for Jim and his guilt for not always being someone Jim could look up to. I'm sure I could have been more clear about that, but what comes out comes out I guess. Anyways R+R, please. This is my first time posting a fic and I really need feedback.

Ditching Jim first chance he got, anytime he made some decent money, to go get drunk or fuck the brains out of another woman he didn't know or give a damn about. Why did he do that anyway? Oh yeah. To forget. That's all he ever wanted to do. To forget about his father. To forget about the only man he had ever been able to look up to, before he had died. To forget that fate had left him all alone. To forget that he had missed out on someone to guide him as he grew up, a role model…

Gene looked over at the sleeping woman in his arms. Then, quietly, he slipped out of the bed that they had shared, dressed himself, and left. Jim was probably waiting for him…
