There was a lock on the door.

But no lock could keep Hoss Cartwright out. Not when his deepest desire was behind that door.

WHAM! He threw his heavy body against the heavy oak door. It creaked, but didn't give.

WHAM! WHAM! Hoss Cartwright was relentless. That lock must break, that door must open.

WHAM! WHAM!

By now a crowd had gathered and was watching him silently. Out of the corner of his eye, Hoss saw them, men and women, mouths open, eyes filled with shock.

But he didn't stop. Wouldn't stop. COULDN'T stop.

WHAM! WHAM!

and finally,

CRASH!!! The lock broke, the door fell, and Hoss was inside! Success!

Now --- he would get what he came here for!

He stepped up to the counter. Took off his hat. And said, to the astonished shopkeeper:

"Ma'am, hand me a couple o' them donuts, would you please? And tomorrow - make sure you open ON TIME!"
