Spirit animals

Heero played soothing music. He sat in the middle of his bed, taking deep breaths through the nose and exhaled out of the mouth. He imagined his spirit animal before him, the wolf. The wolf is the calm and wise spirit.

He imagined walking the path along the forest, across a bridge and up a hill. The ground was rocky against his feet. He imagined sitting in the center of a field. He called to his spirit animal.

A tall white wolf appeared from the trees, his yellow eyes catching Heero's. His size was godly, as he stood up to Heero's shoulders. Heero invited the wolf to come near him. The wolf rubbed its sleek body against Heero's shoulders. The fur felt real. Heero put his arms around the wolf's neck, running his fingers through the wolf's thick ruff. He buried his face into the fur, feeling its warmth.

Heero followed the wolf's invitation and Heero mounted onto its back as if it were a horse. Heero could feel the soft fur between his legs as if it were real. The wolf walked a steady pace around a lake, its paws sinking into the wet sand. Heero looked across the lake. Its glassy surface held the sky's image.

At the end of his journey, Heero invited the wolf to walk back with him. Over the field, over the hill, over the bridge and halfway up the path, Heero took the wolf. He stopped and hugged his wolf, feeling a love that he had never felt before. He thanked the wolf and said his goodbyes for now.

Heero opened his eyes, feeling half asleep. His blood ran cold.

Duo had been embracing Heero the whole time, lying with him, smiling. Heero had mistaken Duo's hair for fur!

Surprised? You should be . . . I read this imagining stuff from the book Animal Speak by Ted Andrews. My spirit animal is the wolf and my totem (I think) animal is the Raven.
