Incomplete Without You

Chapter-01

Kuon's eyes wandered over the whole place. He searched for Kyoko but couldn't locate her anywhere. He was aware of what he did. He wanted to break her heart. He knew this will break her apart but he was left with no choice. Circumstances were not in their favor. He wanted her to back off on her own because he didn't have the guts to fight against his stupid fate.

He desperately wanted to check up on her and settle things with her. Maybe, they could be friends like before? This thought made him laugh at himself. He knew it was not possible after what he had done.

Julie approached him and chirped delightfully. "I didn't know you were this romantic, Kuon" and Kuon couldn't even glare at his mother.

After all, she was one of the main reasons why he was kicking his sweetheart out of his life. Julie Hizuri was the one who never accepted Kyoko Mogami as a part of Hizuri family and always treated her like an outcast and it hurt him beyond imagination. He and his father had always been nice to little Kyoko. She meant the world to them but to Julie, it was like she didn't even exist. She had always mistreated her and the reason was unknown to him. Julie had disapproved Kyoko as his life partner. She could welcome anyone as her daughter-in-law but in her eyes, Kyoko was not the best match for her son. Julie's biased behavior was enough to tear him into million pieces. Poor Kuon had always been powerless against his mother. She could easily manipulate him and he couldn't even protest. He was indebted to her because she was the reason of his existence.

"Leave me alone mom, I don't want to talk about this right now." He stated firmly leaving no space for further inquiry.

"Kuon, I….." Julie tried to speak but Kuon shrugged it off.

"Please mom, not now. I am not capable of taking right now" Kuon said and walked away.

Julie's heart fell to her knees. Her son was ignoring her? He was being rude to his own beloved mother? Did she really lose her son? Did her hatred and indifference towards Kyoko lower her respect in his heart? Her heart drowned in despair as she thought about the upcoming consequences. "Did I cross the line?" she asked herself as she felt a wave of chill coursing through her entire body.

"Dad, have… have you seen Kyoko?" Kuon asked his father who was glaring daggers at him.

He looked away and lowered his head in defeat. How was he going to convince his father now? He would beat the life out of him if he ever found out the truth hidden behind his grand announcement but, his question caught Kana's attention. She looked at him with horrified expression plastered all over her face.

"Is he going to patch things up with her?" She thought as her face turned pale but it didn't seem like that. She sighed in relief.

"Yeah, I think she left" Kuu responded tonelessly as he gestured towards the exit gate of college building. Kuon nodded and took Kana's hand in his.

Kana's lips twisted in distaste. "Now what?!" She snapped once they were out of everyone's sight.

Kuon sighed. "She is my best friend. She is my first priority. I am doing everything for her sake. Don't expect me to completely cut all the ties with her. I'll back off but not completely." He snapped back.

When Kana noticed a change in his demeanor, she immediately calmed herself down.

"No, it's okay. Of course, you guys can stay friends" she nervously added but Kuon's mind was elsewhere.

He had to find his beloved even if it's the last thing he did. He needed to see her even if it's for the last time in this lifetime. His legs picked up the pace and his eyes scanned the surroundings as he walked out of the college building.

Kyoko kept running as far as her legs could take her. After a while, she couldn't keep it in anymore. She fell to the ground and cried like there was no tomorrow. She clutched her chest and sobbed hysterically. She felt like her heart had been ripped out. Her vision was completely blurred and her mind felt numb.

She was crying so hard, her sobs echoed in the empty place. She didn't know where she was and she didn't even bother looking around and check her surroundings. She was too broken to pay attention. She covered her mouth with her hand to conceal her loud cries but nothing could soothe her growing pain.

"Y-You let another woman touch you?" she whispered to herself as she remembered the kiss that her beloved shared with another woman when he proposed to her.

"You knew I couldn't share you with anyone and yet, you shared my love with someone else?" Her heart felt a pinch of hurt once again.

"I could never confess my feeling in words to you but couldn't you see it in my eyes? I belonged to you just like you belonged to me only" She hiccuped while mourning over her loss.

"My heart was like an open book to you. You knew me better than anyone else in the world. You knew how much I loved you and yet, you easily allowed someone else to replace me?" Did I mean nothing to you? Was I really a burden to you? Were you being nice to me out of sympathy?" she let out feeling dejected but he was not there to respond.

She sighed heavily as she tried to get rid of her overly flowing tears.

Her tears had always been locked inside. She never let others witness her true-self. Since the day she found out her reality, she had always been silent and reserved. There was no way she was letting people know how much broken she was inside. But, Kuon Hizuri was an exception. To her, he was like another part of her heart and soul. Around him, she could always be herself.

She could let him see her cry. She could share anything with him. She had never lied to him. With him by her side, she could always talk her heart out without a care in the world because he knew her more than she knew herself. But now? She had to build a strong wall around herself so that he could never reach her. He would never be able to see through her soul. Not anymore. She pulled herself together. She had to be strong. She couldn't afford being vulnerable like this. She immediately wiped her tears and made an attempt to put on a serene facade when she heard the sound of footsteps approaching her.

"Kyoko…." Kuon spoke softly the moment he saw her and she flinched.

His heart fell. He squeezed his eyes shut and felt himself on the verge of crying. He bit his lower lip in order to stop himself from sobbing. He shoved away Kana's hands from his arm and ordered. "Stay here"

He slowly moved toward his heart beat. "Kyoko sweety...?" He whispered once again but his voice sounded alien to Kyoko's ears. Her whimpers seized immediately and she stood up to face him. She looked like he didn't even know her. He was facing someone who wasn't anywhere near his Kyoko.

He was startled.

"I... Um... I came here to talk to you" he said stepping towards her and tried to hold her arms gently.

"Don't touch me please, keep distance" she breathed out as she politely pulled her arms out of his grasp.

Kuon was glued to the ground. To him, her tone sounded colder than ice. For a moment, he forgot to breathe and his heart stopped beating.

This was it. He had actually lost her for good.

Kana's eyes widened. She was expecting her to slap him or at least throw a tantrum but she didn't. She was indeed taken a back by her calm behavior.

With a solemn look on his face, Kuon stepped closer to her.

"Kyoko please listen..." He called out trying to grab her arm again.

She pushed on his chest. "Stay away from me, please Mr. Kuon Hizuri."

Kuon stared at her in disbelief. Was he a stranger to her now? He brushed away his disturbing thoughts and tried once again.

"Come on, marshmallow, we can still be friends" his voice was soft like he was talking to a child.

Kyoko's gaze met him and his breath hitched.

"We can't be anything" she declared mercilessly as she took his soul out and made him feel lifeless.

Kuon's heart tightened in fear. This was exactly what he wanted, for her to back off completely. But now that it was happening, he felt muddled. They were friends for so long how was he going to live without her? She was his lifeline. How could he let her go? But Alas, he had to even it killed him.

"Kyoko what..." Kuon was speechless. What was she trying to do? Was she trying to end their life-long friendship just because he was in a relationship?

Couldn't she understand him? He again tried to cover the distance between themselves but she pushed him away. "Don't! Don't you ever come near me again" she warned him and moved a few step backwards.

He blinked his eyes several times to clear his vision. May be his mind was not working straight. May be, just may be, he was being delusional. She had never misbehaved with him before. But now, it looked like she didn't even recognize him and it angered him.

His mind started spinning around and he was near the point of losing his sanity. His precious girl wasn't ready to hear him out. Her ignorance enraged him even more.

His nostrils flared and he clenched his fists. "Kana doesn't like you! Not even a little bit. But I convinced my girlfriend to let us stay friends because I feel pity for you." He spat out and continued without giving her any chance to reply.

"Kana won't step into Hizuri Mansion in your presence. She is insecure of you because you are too possessive of me. I can't afford having constant arguments with her in this matter Kyoko. For once in my life, I want to focus on myself. I can't keep babysitting you anymore. For God's sake I have my own life. Now, I want to plan my own future with the girl of my desire." He said without meeting her eyes.

Girl of my desire is you Kyoko. You are my dream girl. You're my life. But, I can't say it out loud. I am sorry sweet heart.

He knew his words sounded so blatantly rude and he had no remedy to diffuse their impact on her. Suddenly, he felt suffocated. His chest tightened. His heart churned for being such a jerk to her.

He felt being punched in the pit of his stomach. It was too much for him to handle. Even after being so mature and a fully-fledged adult, he actually didn't know how to deal with this situation in an age-appropriate manner without causing any irreversible damage.

His voice started trembling and he couldn't utter a word. He was fuming inside for being so selfish, for being so cruel to her. He was hurting her for no mistake.

What sort of a man does that to his own love lady? He felt ashamed of being born. He quickly wiped a tear that fell from his eyes before she could notice.

He just wanted to pull her onto his lap and cradle her like a kid while hugging her tightly as if his life depended on it. He wanted to pour himself into her and shower her face with endless kisses but unfortunately to his dismay, he could no longer do that. He was so lucky to get an extraordinary gem like her but now, perhaps he was going to lose her forever.

He looked at her face to find any trace of anger or hurt but failed. Her expression appeared as stony as it was humanly possible. Indeed, she was an expert in masking her inner turmoil but her blood-shed eyes made him curse himself under his breath repeatedly.

With shocked eyes, Kyoko stared at him. Her whole body started shaking slightly.

"I felt pity for you because your whole life depended on me, without me you're nothing." He stepped forward and she stepped back.

"Tell me Kyoko, What are you going to do now? Huh? I'm giving you a chance to stay with me as a friend and be happy for me"

Oh God! He was saying things that he actually didn't mean. He felt terrible and wanted to slap himself until he fainted.

Kyoko shook her head in denial. "Keep your chance to yourself. I don't need it."

"Fine, but I want you to know that whatever happens from now on, will be your fault entirely. Things won't be the same between us anymore" He said, there was a warning in his eyes and his tone.

A sudden urge to cry out loud enveloped Kyoko. Her chin trembled and tears started to form in her eyes once again. She wanted to let it all out but she didn't want to let her guard down in front of him. No! Not anymore.

She mustered all of her courage and spoke.

"How could you be so c-cruel? I thought you were mine. But I promise, you won't have to deal with me again. I wish you two happiness" He voice quivered. It was harder for her to act normal when he was around. She couldn't bear it anymore and ran away, ran away from him.

Kuon stood there stunned, watching her running away from him until he couldn't see her anymore.

"I thought you were mine" her words echoed in the back of his mind making him restless. He was hers. Indeed, he belonged to his Kyoko only. Kana was nothing in her comparison. Not even in her dreams.

I'm yours Kyoko, my love, I am yours only. Forever yours.

So, that's just it?

Eighteen years of pure love and friendship ended within a second? Tomorrow when he'd wake up, he won't be able to see her beautiful face? Tomorrow, he won't be able to offer her a pick and drop to her college? Tomorrow, she won't love him anymore? It all seemed impossible. A life without her was impossible. He couldn't spend a second without seeing her face. Now, how was he going to survive after what he did to her? The most important person of his life was out of reach now and it was all his fault in the first place. He wanted to disappear. He wanted to sleep and never wake up again but it was just his wishful thinking.

He felt two arms wrapped around himself from behind. "Good riddance," Kana said resting her head on his back.

"Eighteen years..." He whispered mindlessly.

"Yeah, that's why it was necessary. You needed a change and so did she. It will be fine in few months. It will be like you guys never knew each other" She said and came to his front. "I am glad she is gone," she added.

Kuon's heart wept silently and cursed him. He glanced one last time in the direction from where she left and looked down at the ground.

"I am incomplete without her" He murmured inaudibly as he was lost in his own world.

A reminiscing smile decorated his flawless face as he remembered the birth of his beloved princess, his angel and the most beautiful soul named Kyoko Mogami.

"You were so tiny, so beautiful when you were born and when I came closer to you, you held my finger so tightly that I had this urge to protect you from every wrong, every evil and this cruel world but I failed so miserably. I've hurt you beyond repair and for that, I won't be able to forgive myself as long as I am alive" Kuon thought as his heart dislocated remembering the broken state of his innocent beauty.

He knew Kana was not his soul mate. No one could ever be like his beautiful, intelligent, talented and pure Kyoko. She was matchless. His body, his heart, his soul, his entire being wanted Kyoko but he couldn't give in. His mother won't accept it. She would make his sweety's life a living hell if he married her. He couldn't let her suffer just because he wanted to spend his entire life with her only.

But he knew he was going to rot in the lowest level of hell for breaking her heart. Without her, his life would be meaningless. He wished he could tell her but his fate loved to mess with him. Things were just so complicated and he had no solution.

And now, he was left empty-handed just because of his cruel fate and his mother's disapproval.

But he knew one thing for sure, he belonged to his beloved Kyoko only in this life and the life hereafter.
