Konosuba: A Tale of this Beautiful World

~Volume Five~

Prologue

"GO AWAY!"

The pack of wolves scattered, retreating back into the woods.

"Amazing, Her Highness really does have the ability to control the creatures of the forest; has she always been capable of that?" Zu' Re questioned.

Gren walked past her.

"Ferris, are you ok?" she asked, checking her sister worriedly.

Ferris nodded. "I'm ok. Onee-chan doesn't need to worry about Ferris so much."

"Of course I do; not only is it my duty as your older sister but circumstances have made it difficult for me to not worry about your wellbeing." She looked over her shoulder at Zu' Re. "You should've stayed in the carriage; no one needed you out here."

"I'm protecting Her Highness. There was a threat outside—and against my advice, you all thrust Her Highness into a dangerous situation," Zu' Re replied.

"She's always in a dangerous situation when she's around you; you're the biggest threat to her wellbeing."

Zu' Re frowned and then looked away in silence.

"Come on, Ferris, let's take you back inside," Gren said, leading her sister back to the carriage.

"Oi, Darkness," I said, getting her attention.

"Hm?"

"It's getting a bit dark, wanna switch?"

"Are you sure, Kazuma? I could go on a bit longer, it isn't an issue."

"Yeah, I'm sure; I'm kinda tired of sitting inside anyway."

Normally, I would've enjoyed the ride, but with how tense and awkward things were I was sort of relieved to get out of the cabin.

After Darkness and I switched, Gren came back out and took her place as navigator.

"Everything alright back there?" I asked, getting the carriage rolling once more.

"Everything's fine—though I'd be glad if we could toss that murdering bitch into a pit of Weeping Crocs, however, I wouldn't want Kazuma and the others to get into trouble on my behalf."

"Ah, no, I get you; I'm not really fond of her either," I replied, but the more pertinent question was what the hell are Weeping Crocs? Best I didn't ask.

"Kazuma-san, if we keep heading down the path we'll reach an outpost. Should be a good location to rest up and get some supplies."

Considering that it's been a few days since we left the capital city of Sylvenn, stopping for some R&R was more than welcome. Not only that, but along the way, we've been harassed by the occasional monsters and ferocious denizens of the forest.

I took a deep breath and sighed.

Hopefully, we got to that outpost soon.
