Ash and May: Love in Hoenn
Chapter 1: Meeting
Well I'd been considering doing another Advanceshipping story along with Advancing Through the Ages. Like some of my stories, this one was inspired by another story. The True Ash and May Stories. You MAY find some similarities to that one as you read but mine will have its own differences as well. Some of the difference here will be it will have Brock join him and May after they have traveled for a while, (he is with Ash at the start of the other fanfic when they all arrive in Hoenn), and Max will be joining them as well like in canon while he didn't in that fanfic. Hopefully I can finish it, as the author of that fanfic hasn't updated it in 8 years, I've even sent him or her a couple PMs with no response asking to update and I know they are on here cause their other stories have been updated recently.
Ah well. I don't own Pokemon, if I did Ash wouldn't be permanently 10 and he would end up with May. For those of you have read my other in progress Advanceshipping story I will have Ash and May be the same age in this fanfic. In my other one he is a couple years older and that has a main kink in the plot. So I will be following the example of another story I saw that had Hoenn trainers start their journey at 13 rather than 10 like in Kanto.
Ash raced through the forest, calling the name of his partner Pikachu in desperation. Things had gone crazy ever since they had arrived in the Hoenn region to start a new journey. First Team Rocket had followed them onto the ship here. Seriously those guys never gave up, even after three years they were still following Ash and trying to steal Pikachu. During their last encounter, Pikachu had gotten strapped to an electro magnet and absorbed a lot of electricity which was now making it sick.
"Pikachu! Pikachu!" Ash called.
…
In another part of the forest, a girl the same age as Ash who was about to start her own Pokemon Journey, rode her bike through the vast greenery in search of Professor Birch. She'd arrived at the lab, only to find out that the Professor was in the woods because of some sort of emergency. She continued pedaling until she came close to a short cliff. She could also hear calls below that sounded like barks.
"Chy! Chy! Poochy!"
"Hey, everything alright?" May asked as she got off her bike and ran to the edge.
She got a closer look and saw that a man in a lab coat that had to be Professor Birch was hanging onto a tree as a group of Poochyena barked at him from below.
"Hey you must be May!" the man in the lab coat shouted. "Quick, I need some help! Grab a pokeball from inside my bag there!"
May looked at the bag next to her, she bent down and opened the pockets. Inside were three pokeballs.
"Oh, which one do I pick?" she asked to herself.
"Any of them!" The Professor said.
She took a random ball and frowned at it. Even though she'd decided to be a Pokemon Trainer, she didn't really like Pokemon. She was only doing this for the chance to travel and explore the world.
"Okay, come on out!" she said.
The ball opened and released a flash of light. From the light a small blue Pokemon with a dorsal fin on its head appeared.
"Mudkip!" Professor Birch said.
"Okay," May said, unsure what to do now.
"Call out one of its attacks!" Birch told her.
"Um… like what?" May asked.
"Tell it to use water gun!"
"Got it, use water gun!"
The Mudkip did use water gun, on May! The girl received a face full of splish.
"Hey! Not on me!" she shouted.
"Mudkip use water gun on the Poochyena!" Birch took over.
The water type sprayed down the hill at the trio of small gray puppy pokemon. They yelped and ran off. Birch got out of the tree.
"Sorry for missing you May, I got a call from a trainer that just arrived in the Hoenn Region. His Pikachu is in very bad shape."
May shivered. While she didn't like Pokemon, she didn't really hate them either. It was just that her father Norman was the gym leader in Petalburg city. Pokemon just kept cropping up in her life and she'd grown annoyed by it as her father seemed to spend more time with his Pokemon then he did with her. Also her little brother seemed obsessed with them. Still, she didn't relish the thought of a Pokemon being hurt. Or this boy.
"Lets go help them then!" she said.
…
Ash continued his search until he finally found Pikachu. The electric pokemon was walking through the long grass, Ash barely saw its yellow shape. But he could hear it snarling its name angrily.
"Pikachu! Pika!"
"Pikachu!" Ash called getting into the grass.
"Pikachu!"
It shot another thunderbolt at Ash who fell on his bum. Pikachu ran deeper into the grass, still overloaded with electricity. Ash was only down for a second but then-
"Ash!"
Ash looked and saw Professor Birch coming along with a girl. Ash's mouth fell open when he saw her. The girl looked about his age, with straight long brown hair that she kept a red bandana on top of. Her red shirt matched the bandana, a decent sized chest was visible through the shirt, and she had on a short skirt over her shorts and red and yellow sneakers. She walked a bike through the woods. She and Ash looked at each other for a moment silently.
"Hello! You okay Ash?" Professor Birch asked.
"Huh? Oh yeah. Pikachu was just there!"
"Good, we have to catch it quick before all that electricity causes it to explode!" Birch said.
Ash nodded. There was no time for distractions. Every second counted here. They ran through the grass and Ash soon saw a small yellow Pokemon in there.
"Pikachu! Come on buddy snap out of it!" Ash called desperately.
"Chu!" It let out another thunderbolt into the air, missing them. "Pi?"
Ash went around in front of Pikachu who saw him.
"Pika!" it said in relief. Apparently the last thunderbolt had been enough to allow it to see normally. Still electricity sparked from its cheeks.
"I'm here buddy! I'm gonna help you okay!" Ash said approaching slowly.
"Pika," it looked worried but was reassured by the presence of its trainer.
Ash didn't see it, but behind him, the girl watched him with an open mouth.
Ash's hand was almost on Pikachu. Then Team Rocket appeared and recited their tiresome motto. They grabbed Pikachu with their latest machine that could absorb Pikachu's electricity. They pressed wires to its cheeks and began draining it. Pikachu yelled and let out all its power. Electricity flew everywhere as Team Rocket's machine drained Pikachu's electricity. It hit the trees, the brunette girl screamed as she ducked a bolt which went on and hit the bike that she had left leaning against a tree.
"Ah my bike!" she screamed.
Ash felt a bit embarrassed, but at the same time was pulled back to his first day as a Pokemon trainer three years ago in Kanto. He'd started his journey with Pikachu. They had upset a flock of Spearow that went after them, stealing a bike that belonged to Misty, they fallen from a cliff and been forced to take a stand. Pikachu let out a powerful electric attack that defeated the Spearow, but also fried Misty's bike. Now it seemed history had repeated itself.
Ash snapped out of his trance just in time to see another bolt spiraling toward the girl who screamed again. Ash, without thinking, put himself in front of the girl. He knew that this wouldn't kill her but Pikachu's thunderbolts were always more painful to someone who hadn't been exposed to them before. He'd developed a sort of resistance to it.
"Arrgh!" Ash screamed.
His resistance made it hurt less, but still enough to make him scream. He collapsed on his butt once again. Even after all the times he got shocked it knocked him down, but he always got back. Before he did this time though, the girl rushed to his side.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. I've been shocked worse then that before!" Ash said.
Suddenly Team Rockets machine exploded, Pikachu fell to the ground while Team Rocket blasted off for some hundredth time.
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled, running to his partners side and picking the yellow mouse pokemon up.
They headed back to the lab where Birch and his assistant examined Pikachu.
"It seems all the extra electricity has been drained from Pikachu. It should be fine after a good nights rest," Birch said.
"Oh that's a relief," Ash said.
…
May tried to get her bike to move again, but its tires and pedaling mechanism were to scorched and damaged by the electric attack to function properly. Birch and the boy had been forced to go ahead without her while she'd walked what remained of her bike back to the lab. She slowly opened the door but found there was a vase containing a set of flowers in the way. As she opened it she saw the vase fall and scrambled to catch it before it hit the flower and shattered. Everyone looked at her as she held the vase up above her head for a second. The handsome raven haired boy with the hat gazed at her with a pair of brown eyes.
Hide it! You don't want to look like a total cluts!" May thought.
She hid the vase behind her back.
"Uh… hi. I'm May," she said. "Didn't quite have time to introduce myself earlier."
"Yeah. Me neither, my name's Ash. Good to meet you May," the boy said.
…
Ash looked at her with a small blush. Then he remembered something.
"Hey uh… sorry about your bike!" he said. "Pikachu was sick and couldn't control itself."
She looked at him for a moment. Ash remembered he had tried apologizing to Misty after she'd caught up with him. She'd yelled and refused to accept his apology then began following him until he paid her back. If this was gonna happen with May as well Ash was prepared to deal with that again.
"Um… you know what? Its no big deal," May said waving her hand.
Ash looked at her in surprise. No big deal! He liked her already. At least she wasn't gonna be a pain over a bike like Misty had been.
"So, is Pikachu okay now?" she asked.
"Yeah. Just needs a good nights sleep."
"That's good," May said.
"So May, now that that problem is solved I think its time for you to choose your first Pokemon," Professor Birch said.
"Wow, you're a starting trainer here?" Ash said. "How old are you?"
"Thirteen," May said.
"Wow, we're the same age! But if you're thirteen how come you're getting Pokemon now?"
"It's the age we give Pokemon Licenses out in Hoenn," Birch said.
"Oh. Okay," Ash said.
"Well May, here are the choices," Professor Birch threw the pokeballs from earlier into the air.
Three Pokemon appeared, the Mudkip (which May immediately passed on as it didn't listen to her), Treeko, a green Pokemon with yellow eyes and a large tail. May passed on that one as well since it looked creepy to her. Last was a small orange chicken like pokemon with a beak and a flame shaped set of feathers on its head.
"Last is Torchic, a fire pokemon," Birch said.
May looked at the Torchic. "Hmm. Not bad, kinda cute actually. Okay, I'll take this one."
It was decided then. May would take Torchic. She and Ash spent the night in guest rooms in the lab. Tomorrow they got up and met outside. Pikachu was fully recovered and perched happily on Ash's shoulder.
"Morning Ash!" he heard when he stepped outside for some morning air.
"Oh hey May," Ash said. "You sleep well?"
She nodded. "Yeah, you?"
"Well I stayed with Pikachu so didn't entirely sleep a lot," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu looked at its trainer in remorse.
"You must really care about Pikachu huh?" May asked.
"Yeah, Pikachu and I are best friends," Ash told her.
"Wow," she said looking at Pikachu.
…
She had to admit it was cute, maybe just as cute as Torchic. Ash was pretty good looking too. Maybe that was a trait he got from Pikachu? Or vice versa? Pikachu noticed her Torchic whom she'd let out, the two small pokemon began to chase each other as their trainers watched.
"So what are you going to do now?" she asked after a moment.
Professor Birch suddenly joined them. "The first place you'll want to head to is Oldale Town. It's the beginning spot for new trainers to register. That's just about a day's walk from here. After that is Petalburg city."
"I can show you the way if you want," May offered. "I came through there on my way here."
"Okay. That'll be great," Ash said.
May didn't notice his blush, but she did as well. She turned around and whispered, "Yes!" to herself. Now she could have a chance to get to know him better. Part of her had feared that they would just split up right away.
"That would probably be a beneficial thing for you May!" Professor Birch said. "Ash is an experienced trainer so he could show you the ropes like how to catch Pokemon."
"Okay," May said, not entirely sure about whether she wanted that.
At least she had someone with her.
"Well, see you around Professor Birch!" Ash said.
Pikachu went back on Ash's shoulder, and May put Torchic back in its ball. The two of them (or three if they counted Pikachu) set off into the woods toward Oldale Town. Their journey through Hoenn had began.
Well I got myself the DVD for the first season of advanced Generation about a month ago, I copied it as best I could remember though its been a couple weeks at least since I saw this episode. Also made alterations or filled in the blanks on my own where I had to. I don't think I'll be doing every episode but who knows. I also altered May and Ash's reactions for sure as they develop crushes on each other. Though May did kinda act like she liked Ash a bit when she faced the screen and gave that triumphant fist, unless it was something else. But it was cause Ash agreed to travel with her? Maybe they had at first thought of having her have a crush on him but then scrapped the idea? Eh, I don't care for her and Drew really but whatever. I'm just gonna write this and have fun.
