Loss of a Mother, Gain of a Father
"Mommy what do we do? I'm scared, why can't those bad men go away and leave our home?" an eight year old girl asked her mother. They were hiding behind their home from some guards who were ordered to destroy their entire town by Prince Kensuke of Mei.
"Shhh...Amy please be quiet or they'll..." her mother began to tell her before she heard her house being destroyed. The sound of glass shattered through the home. One guard found his way through the rubble to the back of the house.
"...Or they'll find us?" the guard finished for Amy's mother. He grinned down to the two of them.
"Amy please run honey...hurry!" the woman yelled to her only daughter. Amy jumped up and began running. From behind her she heard her mother's screams. Amy shut her eyes and ducked into a nearby alleyway. She stood, back pressed against the wall, very still. She quietly swallowed as she saw a blonde-haired man run by her. She looked to where he was running and he jumped onto the top of the building. A guard's hand landed firmly on Amy's shoulder, spinning her around.
"Your mother is in our control now and I will not kill you if you tell me which way the blonde guy went. And you better not lie to me because you understand that I can destroy you in a heartbeat." the guard said to her. She lowered her head and pointed to her left as the guard ran toward the direction she pointed.
Amy began to walk after the guard when her mouth was covered with one hand and she was carried out of the alleyway. She tried struggling from the person's grasp but she wasn't strong enough. Soon she looked up and no longer realized her surroundings. The person who was carrying her slowed down and quickly hid behind the nearest tree, setting her down and turning Amy to face him.
"Don't be frightened, I promise I won't hurt you" the man said to her. She looked up at his face and realized it was the blonde man whom the guards were looking for. "I can't tell you the reason why I was running from those guards but I can tell you that I don't like the fact of you living in that town. You're too young to die and from now on I'll take care of you. We will find your mother, I can promise you that. My name is Raphael and if you will let me...I would like to keep you as my foster daughter to make sure you have a good place to stay."
Amy continued to look at Raphael, then slowly nodded. "I'm happy you took me away from that place. My name is Amy and I'll feel a lot safer if I stayed with you." she threw her arms around Raphael's waist and hugged him tightly. He gently held her close to him.
"Don't be afraid Amy, your mother won't die...we'll find her before the Prince decides to do anything to her." he said, kneeling down to her eye level. "Now let's hurry to my mansion before the guards catch up to us." He began to walk forward. Amy turned around and walked to his side, gently taking his hand. He looked down and smiled, then closed his fingers around her small hand.
