Wanted: A life in the middle of nowhere. Where one can disappear. Ignored. Left alone. Hermit style out in the woods sort of vibe.

Okay, that notion might be off the table. But it was still the middle of nowhere and that seemed best at this moment. Besides, farmers and country folk lived simple lives. Right?

And Danny could use a lot of anything the exact and direct opposite of complicated at this time.

Author Note: Okay, honestly? No idea where this will end up. I just wanted an excuse to stick Danny on a farm. Will all likely be short bits and bobs. (Originally posted on ao3, transferring over)

When considering his options, Danny only really felt as though there was really only one. Vlad was out. Aunt Alicia was too. But for far different reasons than Vlad. The last option suggested was better. At least, Danny hoped so. Not like whatever random other family would be wise or the faintest bit knowledgeable about anything, which felt a little wrong to him.

Danny had put down his foot, best he could. A foster family that lived in the middle of nowhere, a small town or big country area. A nowhere place. Somewhere he could disappear and have plenty of room. For. Just in case.

And he'd gotten it.

Delivered to the middle of nowhere, nearest small town of maybe 200 a five minute drive through corn and soybeans. Right smack on a dairy farm. The couple were nice and welcoming, but gave him his space. They'd been given bare bones of what happened to him. Their four kids followed example. Kept distance. Great. Perfect.

And then he got pestered on the bus. Swarmed at school. Flustered, he spun and darted away, around the corner.

What the hell? This was middle of nowhere. A place to disappear and go unnoticed.

"Uh. Yeah, no."

Danny spun to stare at the eldest daughter of the family he was placed with. The one his age, in his class. She was fighting a smile.

"You know," she began conversationally. "We tend to be utterly baffled at movies of how and why no one seems to notice the new kid. Must be a big city and big school thing. Here? Not so much. Everyone knows everyone here. A new kid is exciting."

Well.

Danny swore in his head.

That made sense.

He swore again.

There was a stupid oversight. Yeah, he had room here for just in case. And there was physically room to disappear. But unnoticed? Guess that was out of the question.

Maybe he should have asked for the biggest city possible to disappear in the sheer number of crowds.

Danny winced, blanching at the image in his mind.

Crowds.

Well.

At least he had the physical room here and a lower population. It couldn't be that hard to live through any new kid interest until they ignored him. Right?
