"Are you ok?", he smiled at her, left thumb stroking the skin at that point where her inner thigh meets her groin.
Still dazed from her recent orgasm, she just placed her hand on his and whispered "Never been better."
It shouldn't feel that comfortable sharing intimacy and silence with someone you just slept with for the first time, but they both knew very early in their relationship that there was nothing ordinary in their bond.
Harvey kept stroking her inner thigh, feather-like touches administered with such attention and affection, that she felt arousal building up again in her core.
"Your skin is so soft, I like touching you", he whispered against her ear before placing a sloppy kiss on her neck.
Donna left out a shaky whimper and exposed her collarbone to give him better access.
"You have no idea how many times I wanted to touch you here…", he mumbled as his hand slid up to hold her right boob. "Or here…", he continued, hand reaching her inner leg again, until it found her mound.
Donna was panting loudly now, her body contorting below him as her hips arched upward to meet his touch.
Harvey moved on top of her next, one of his hands going around her body until he cupped her ass and pulled her close to him, while bringing her in for a bruising kiss.
Round two was slow, intentional. It was eyes into eyes and hands into hands and Harvey's movements were measured and intense.
Once they both came down of their high with synchronized moans, he carefully moved to her side, one arm possessively secured around her waist.
Donna stifled in his embrace, her mind in overdrive for what just happened. She knew it was a bad idea to cross the line with him, she knew this man could potentially break her, she knew she could easily fall in love with him.
Harvey sensed she was thinking of something and carefully stroked her cheek with his thumb.
"Do you regret what we did?", his hoarse voice hid a pinch of apprehension.
"No, I don't", she just whispered. "Do you?", she asked after a while.
"Not one bit. It's what I thought it would be and more", he said, genuinely and affectionately smiling at her.
Donna forced a smile and turned her head the other way, internally agreeing with him but not finding the courage to voice her thoughts.
Seeing she was closing off and thinking she was just being polite but wanted him out of her hair, he thought about giving her space she seemed to need.
"You want to be alone?", Harvey asked.
She sighed heavily, her eyes slowly finding his again in the dark, and she smiled. "No."
Donna pulled herself back to his chest, comfortably finding her place with her face snuggled in the crook of his neck.
After a while, she felt his chest raising and falling steadily, indicating he had fallen asleep. She closed her eyes and, just above a whisper, she spoke to no one in particular.
"Please don't break my heart".
The following morning, he left early to go back home, shower and leave for the office. He had a plan and he had to see Jessica. Donna was still sleeping and he didn't want to wake her, conscious that the previous night they wore each other out pretty good. He kissed her hair and left.
His mind went back to the previous night, to the amazing sex and intimacy they shared. He heard her when she said not to break her heart and to be honest he wanted to tell her that she could easily break his too, that he never felt what he felt with her before, that the connection they had was special and unique. But of course, being the coward he is, he pretended to sleep and didn't say a word. It was for the best, he could never be the man worthy of her, eventually he would break her heart for real and he could never forgive himself for that.
So he did the next best thing to keep her close, he spoke with Jessica and negotiated for him to go back to her firm on the condition he could bring Donna as his secretary. If he couldn't have her in his personal life, he wanted to make sure she could still be close to him.
He met her at a diner later that morning and asked her to come work for him.
She tried to conceal her disappointment as best as she could before accepting because she knew it was better this way. He wasn't ready and if she was being honest with herself she didn't want to lose him too, in any form that could be.
They put it out of their mind and never mentioned it again, both knowing that what they experienced the previous night had the potential to become forever and with the silent promise that the next time it would happen it would indeed be for life.
