Prologue

What is the sea?

Some may say the sea is simply the sloshing blue waves that keep lands apart. Others would say it's an enchanting beast – hiding treasures and secrets and truths in the dark depths. Some may even say that it's nothing but plain, salty water. Those ones, perhaps, are a little boring.

But there are some lads and lasses that see the ocean as a dangerous, hideous thing. A brutal murderer. A reminder that, as beautiful and magical the world is, it can snatch away those you love without a moment of hesitation.

One of these lasses was named August.

Oh, if only you had met her. A sweet, gentle heart, with a smile as soft as the breeze. A mouth that could recite every word in any old educational manuscript, but stuttered at the idea of an adventure. A soul that couldn't, and wouldn't, leave a splash.

If she was so scared of adventure, though, then there would be no story of one, nay?

And when the adventure starts with chasing a ragged prince across the oceans, with nothing but a limp canoe and a Pokémon that simply won't stop crying, while also scrambling to stop hungry pirates from flooding the world? While also training in the ways of a thief, stealing jewels from rich tribal leaders, to become the first Pokémon Pirate to reach the Temple of the Sea?

It's not for the faint of heart. So it is most certainly not for August.

August, however, does not have the choice.

But you do.

Make your choice carefully, dearest friends. For whatever decision you make here – whatever words you choose to drink in – may change your life forever.

And with that, masters and squires, readers and writers, friends and foes, let us begin the tale of August: the girl who was scared of the sea.

For those who are new to these series, welcome! For those who have come from The Iron Knight, welcome back!

For those who don't know, this story is based off a nuzlocke. I simply played a nuzlocke of Alpha Sapphire, kept note of all the deaths, and now I am writing a story about it! With this in mind, please note that there is death in this story. Just be aware of this as you launch into the story.

I will try to update as quickly as I possibly can! However, I do have a busy schedule happening here. So please be patient with me.

However! If you are new, and you are enjoying what you are reading so far, then I strongly recommend that you check out The Iron Knight (which is on my profile page). It's the first nuzlocke story I wrote, set in Sinnoh, and it is a completed story that I have poured my heart into. If you're eager to read something similar to this, I would go there!

And if you have come from The Iron Knight... well. Thank you, first of all, for staying with me! I love all my readers very much, and I have appreciated all the reviews and messages and even the cute art some of you have made for my stories. I hope this one lives up to November's story!
