Tears on a Warrior's Heart By InuKorro **************************************************************************** *********** Hi everyone! This is my first fanfiction here at FF.net, so please be patient with me. As you can see, this is a KHxOC/KK fic, or Kenshin Himura x Original Character/ Kaoru Kamiya fic. Or, KenshinxOC and KenshinxKaoru. Confusing. Anyway, I don't own Kenshin or anyone, just Nikita Kurano the Shadow Kitsune. **************************************************************************** ***********

Prologue: The Shadow Kitsune

The carriage rolled along pleasantly on the worn clay road, the horses' hooves making a rhythymic "clip-clop-clip-clop" across the earth. The coachman whistled a tuneless tune as he kept the two mares going at an easy trot, completely relaxed by the serene forest they travelled through. From inside the coach, Lord Kagewaki of Kyoto was lulled to sleep by the relaxing hemisphere the woods put him in, his gentle snores drowned out by the horses' sudden whinnys of fright.
The carriage jerked roughly to a grinding halt as the lean figure clad in a smoke colored gi and hakama blocked their path. The figure smirked lightly, this was her target. The coachman was pale, he could clearly see a katana sheath dangling from the figure's waist. "Hiduki, why did you have to stop the carriage so abruptly?" complained the older man good-naturedly. "Lord Kagewaki, remove yourself from that carriage." commanded a dominate and intimidating female voice.
Nikita smirked, unsheathing her sword, the long silver blade seeming to glow in the pale unslight sifting through the leaves of higher trees. "You have twenty seconds to get out of that carriage before I slice it in half, Kagewaki." she said with a touch of disdain. The old man opened the door and stepped out, standing tall before the assassin. "How may I help you, young lady?" he asked, his breath caught in his throat at the sight of her sword. "Wash your neck, you bastard." she she said, before decapitating him with a slash of her blade.
Hiduki yelped when she pointed the blade at him. "You, you're innocent, flee or your head shall roll as well." Nikita said darkly, her voice laced with venom. He took her word for it and ran, quickly disappearing down the road. Her amber gaze turned to Lord Kagewaki's corpse, lying headless on the earth. She sighed, "Another day, another murder," and she quickly pulled the golden seal of the Southern Lands from his pocket, as proof of his death. She also filled a vial with some of his blood and tissues, to present to her employer, Lord Shishio. Nikita eyed the horses with a critical eye. She severed the leather reins connecting them to the carriage, and mounted one. The other she tugged along by a single rein, as she cantered towards Kyoto.
