A/N: A poem in Erik's POV while he watches Christine sleep.
Erik
The world has certain rules to follow, Christine…
Certain rules to keep the upper-classes happy…
And I am most definitely considered
As not worthy of even the lowest class.
I am therefore prey to these rules:
I cannot even think of kissing such a lady as you,
I cannot fight with the Vicomte for your affections,
I cannot hope to become your husband one day.
I cannot even hope that you will not be frightened of me.
The world has certain rules to follow…
But in sleep, Christine, the rules change…
As you sleep, I watch you…
You cannot be frightened of me now,
I see you at peace and I almost dare hope,
That you might one day be with me.
In sleep, the Vicomte cannot triumph over me,
He doesn't see you sleeping…
If I gave you a kiss, you would never know…
When I caress your cheek, you lean into my touch…
When I sing softly for you, you smile…
If I gave you a kiss, you would never know…
If I can never kiss you while you're awake…
I have you in sleep…
