Enigma
by Meg Kenobi
Summary: A brooding Snape poem. Snape has no solid stance in the war against Voldemort and no real side to call his own.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.

Look away from this shell
This lie, this guise
Mask concealing an enigma
You'll never understand
quite what I am

For not a one of you finds
median between hatred
and foolish trust
And you never stopped
to think the traitor
is betraying you

You have no subtlety within
your self-righteousness
judging me, thinking
I give a damn
For good or bad
or any ambiguous allegiance

In the end you will hate me
for you will never know
which blow was staged
and which was felt
Take cold comfort in the fact
I never knew myself
