new story, for this site, been on ao3 for months! Hope you like
Why did you come here?! If not for you nothing would have to change?! Our world will be destroyed because of you!"
This hit Link hard, he hated doing this, but he needed to get back to Hyrule. He made a promise to Zelda to save hyrule. He walked through the door of the final temple and got the last instrument. He sighed and stepped through the portal in the middle of the dark room, everything went white and then he was back outside.
Wind Fish….
He heard those words.
"Hoot hoot! It is time. Wake the Wind Fish."
"Yeah…. Okay…" Link said sadly.
"Stop being a bitch." The owl said and flew off. "Hoot hoot!"
Link cringed at this. He hated that owl. He alone made him want to wake the Wind Fish. He sighed. "It's time to end this. But I need to do something first." He needed to say goodbye to the village, to Marin in particular.
He went back down to the village, he made it there fast with the portals and walked in after lifting a rock. He walked through the village and made his way to Marin who was singing.
"Sleepers wake,
Dreams will fade,
Although we cling fast,
Was it real?
What we saw?
I believe-"
"Hey marin…."
She stopped and opened her eyes and smiled at him, hey Link!" She said happily. "Thanks For saving me."
"Yeah. Yeah any time…. Um…" Link looked at Marin, he didn't want to wake the Wind Fish, but Zelda…..
"Link, what's wrong?"
He sighed. "Marin, can we walk for a bit?"
She rubbed her arm nervously, "I'm a little jumpy about leaving the village, after what happened last time Link, but as long as we stay in the village sure."
He nodded, "noted, but I need to talk to you."
"Then talk to me silly, I'm right here." She said with an amused smile.
He sighed.
"Okay Link, spill it , what's bugging you?"
"I… I have the last instrument to wake the Wind Fish.
"Oh. I see, so this is goodbye then…"
"No! You don't understand. I don't want to wake the Wind Fish."
"But Link, you need to go home don't you?"
"I do but…."
She smiled, "Link I want to teach you a song, to remember me by."
"Marin-"
"You have the ocarina don't you."
"How did you know?"
"The stones were moved. I figured you were behind it. Come on, get it out so you can learn the song." She said with a somber smile. He took it out sadly and put it to his lips. She sang a few notes, hitting them perfectly like selene dione, it kind of turned Link on.
"Do you think you can hit those notes?" She asked him.
"With this I can", he played the ocarina hitting the notes just as good as Marin, he couldn't sing for shit, but was very musically inclined.
"Good, now try to keep up."Link nodded, he did so, and they made sweet, sweet music together.
"Don't forget that song Link! Play it and remember me."
"Marin, I …"
She put a hand to his mouth. "Go."
"No! Marin-" the little boy next to them stared at them, "can we go down to the beach? One last time? For some privacy? I can protect you Marin please."
"Well, okay I guess if it means that much to you." She said uncomfortably, she followed him out of the village and to the beach, true to his word he fended off the monsters, they came to the beach and sat down.
"So what's up?"
"I don't want to wake the Wind Fish."
"Link you have to wake him, it's the only way for you to-"
"I don't want to!" He shouted angrily, he sounded childish, he blushed, she might have thought the redness on his cheeks was because he was expressing his feelings, and she was right, but also it was embarrassment at his actions. The children in the village acted more mature than he did right now.
"You're lying, this is all you've ever wanted since you got here!"
"Not anymore… I don't want to kill everyone here, Marin. I don't want to kill you." He said, meeting her gaze.
She smiled though calmly, "Link, it's okay. I-"
"It's not, it's not okay. I can't do it, I won't! I can make a life here."
"Link you've come so far though." She said sadly.
"I know. But…. Marin I just can't", he said, taking her hands in his.
She blushed at this, "Link… what are you saying?"
"I… I'm staying here. In Koholint. With you. Or without you, I've made up my mind."
"Link you've come so far though, just to give up?"
"I guess I did." He said sadly.
"Link…"
"Marin I like you. I like you a lot and I don't want to hurt you! You feel the same don't you?"
She stared surprised red faced. "Link that's kind of personal, y-you don't belong here anyway you belong in-"
Link put his hands to her cheeks, and pressed his lips to hers. Her eyes widened, she put her hands on his chest as if to push him away but they quickly wrapped around him tight as she melted into him, his left hand brushed her hair as they kissed, lips moving against the others.
Tears ran down her red cheeks and Link's as well, though for a different reason, it was guilt, guilt for abandoning Hyrule, and Zelda. Neither would ever see those tears of course as they were too focused on the passionate kiss shared between them. Marin quickly broke away. Breathing heavy, Link, are you sure about this?"
"Yes."
"Are you positive? I don't want to share my heart with you just for you to change your mind and w-"
Link kissed her lips again silencing her, it was just a quick peck but enough to shut her bitchy ass up.
"I would never do that to you, and you know it Marin."
She smiled and kissed him again, "so what are you going to do now?" She had a smile on her face that said there was in fact a correct answer to this question.
"Spend my life with you. If you'll have me
Marin, I've known you for about a month. And I think I love you."
"Link… I love you too."
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes!" She hugged him around the neck so tight he started dying. Not from love, but how damn hard that hug was, she was a lot tougher than she looked. He felt like his neck would snap in half, he tapped her forearm, it was toned and all muscles, he never realized she was so muscular. It was scary but also kinda hot, turns out the hero of Hyrule is a masochist.
"Marin…crushing…can't breathe…"
"Oops, sorry, I guess I don't know my own strength." She said quickly releasing him from her death grip, sheepishly smiling at him with an embarrassed blush on her face.
He smiled and kissed her cheek, "let's go back to the village."
Good idea its getting dark. "I'm um… a little scared of the dark. She said nervously."
"You almost broke my neck and you're scared of the dark?" That's ironic. He teased.
"I'm a gentle woman, just because my thighs can crush skulls doesn't mean I'll do it!" Link laughed at this, and Marin joined in giggling leaning into him. Let's hurry up, I'm seriously terrified of the dark.
"Married?" Tarin said, confused.
"Yes, Link asked me to marry him, I said yes." Marin said.
"I'd be honored to have your blessing Tarin." Link said.
"Of course! She's your problem now Link, hoo hoo!" Tarin said happily.
"Um…thank you father?" Marin said with uncertainty, unsure of whether to be happy about how her father was acting or not.
"I'll take good care of her." Link said humbly.
"I'm sure you will." Tarin said a bit more seriously at this.
Marin yawned, "I'm going to bed."
"Me too", Tarin said.
"You should do the same, Link, we've got a wedding to plan tomorrow."
Link nodded and went to bed with them, sleeping in Marin's bed with her.
The next day the two sat inside.
"When should we have the wedding?"
"As soon as possible. It doesn't need to be big." Link said.
"I agree but I at least want the entire village to be here, for it. And all the animals in the animal village as well."
"Why not have it over there?"
"Because it's too far. I'm not traveling for my wedding." She said annoyed.
"Fine, fine. We'll have it here, and how should we let the animal village know about it?"
"We go there of course!" She said happily. "Let's go right now. Oh but first let's tell everyone here first." She said starting to get carried away into the wedding planning. Link smiled, she was cute when she was excited.
They went and told everyone and then went to the animal village to tell them.
They walked in and a rabbit got excited. "Marin! Hey everyone, it's marin!"
"Everyone came out to greet her", Marin smiled and waved. "It's always nice to be wanted isn't it?" Marin said to Link.
"I wouldn't know."
She smacked his arm. "Oh stop it, I want you and that should be enough."
"What's going on? Why are you talking to this pleb Marin?"
"Hey!" Link shouted Angrily.
She giggled, "because I'm marrying this pleb."
"LE GASP! YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED?!" The rabbit said dramatically.
"Yes. Yes I am", she said proudly.
"Where's your ring?"
Marin stopped, looked at her finger and back to Link, "that's a good question, where is my ring?!"
"Seriously, I need a ring now?"
She rolled her eyes, "we can figure something out I'm not that picky. Besides, my dad never gave my mom a ring."
"LE GASP! HE DIDN'T?!"
"No, he accidentally ate them, I think they might still be in there somewhere."
"So that's it? You came here just to tell us that?"
"Yeah, bye."
They all shouted in disapproval at this, taking out pitchforks, torches and a big wooden steak to burn Marin on.
"I'm just kidding, calm down!" Marin shouted, starting to freak out.
"Sing!"
"But-"
"SING!" the rabbit shouted in a fit of rage.
"Okay okay!" She quickly began singing. Once it was over she turned to the animals, "you're all invited to my wedding."
"Where is it?"
"Mabe."
"We'll be there."
"Good, it's in three days." Marin said with a smile.
"Okay bye." The rabbit said.
They left and Marin sighed in relief, "I thought I was gonna die…." She said with a hand to her chest.
Marin and Link went to old man Ulurira's house. Grandma Yahoo waved to them happily. "Marin, it's nice to see you! Young man you too."
"My name is Link." He said calmly. They rarely talked so it made sense that she didn't know him.
"Right right, Link sorry. I heard you two are getting married." She said not really looking at Link.
"Yes."
"How lovely."
They walked passed her not even asking if Ulrira was home. Too shy to talk to people, where would he go?
"Hey old man Ulrira!" Marin called out as they walked in.
He looked at them horrified and mumbled something.
"I'm sure you heard but we're getting married." Marin said, "we want you to wed us." He gasped at this in pure terror. His one hair stood on end at this.
"Marin, maybe we should have your dad do it." Link said, eyeing Ulrira with sympathy.
"Do you really want the only person on this island that let himself get turned into a raccoon to marry us?" Marin asked with a raised brow.
"No. No I don't, but he's about to have a heart attack." Link said looking at Old man Ulrira who was hyperventilating and bug eyed looking around the room like a schizophrenic.
"Oh come on Old man Ulrira, can you do it for me?" Marin asked, giving him a big hopeful smile, she'd known him all her life and knew he had a soft spot for her. She wasn't afraid to take advantage of that either.
"Um…. I-I'll try." He stammered nervously.
"Thank you." She said gratefully and kissed his forehead making him go red.
They walked, "are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Of course! Everything will work out perfectly, you'll see."
Link and Marin went to the animal village and got fitted for their dress and suit.
And the next day they were married. They had a gorgeous wedding, everyone helped set up the decor and stuff.
Old man Ulurira came out to wed them like he said, though he was shy. He managed to get through it. They kissed and stayed at Tarin's since they didn't have anywhere else to go.
"Link, what are we going to do, live with my father forever? I'm not sure we thought this through so well…" she said quietly from across the bed from her husband.
"Hm", he hummed thoughtfully, she had a point. He then smiled at an idea coming to him. "There's an old abandoned house just near the beach. It's wrecked and in terrible shape but with some help it can be fixed up like new. I'll Talk to Tarin about it tomor-"
"I'll help you out Link, just be quiet so I can sleep." Tarin said, annoyed in a groggy voice.
Marin giggled, "I think he's right it's late." She leaned her head back to his face and kissed him goodnight and went to sleep.
Link and Tarin got up before the sun came up much to Tarin's annoyance. They went out to the house and Tarin scratched his head. "I dunno Link, this looks like a lost cause."
"We gotta try Tarin."
"Why can't you guy's stay with me in Mabe village?" Tarin asked in a whining man-child tone.
"Because there's no room there."
"What about the telephone booth? We might be able to fix it up."
"It's a telephone booth, we can't do that."
"What about the dream shrine?!"
"It's a shrine, not a house, this is the only available house on the island Tarin."
He sighed. "Fine, but this is a hell of a fixer upper Link." The two of them got to work and they fixed the house up the best they could. The Work was mediocre at best.
"Link, this isn't working too well."
"Maybe we can ask the animal village for help. That's a good idea I suppose." They looked to the sky as the sun was setting. "I don't think anything else should be done tonight, it's late." Tarin said.
" I agree." Link said and they went back to Mabe village. They went back home and Marin smiled as they walked in, she hugged Link and kissed him, pecking his lips and then hugged her father.
"How'd it go?"
"We're doing terrible,'' Tarin said, annoyed.
"We've made progress but we need help. We plan to go to the animal village tomorrow and ask them for a hand."
"You mean a paw?" Marin asked with a big smile thinking she was clever.
"Yeah that."
"I'll go too, they'll probably love to hear my singing." Marin said.
"Okay." Link said with a nod.
"Is a bath ready marin?" Her father asked.
"Yeah."
"Good, I'm bathing and going to bed." He said walking outside to bathe in the tub.
"Okay." She turned to Link, "is it really progressing well, Link?
"Yeah! It's shabby and won't look new but it's getting close to being usable. I expect to be fully moved in and living our new life together by the end of the month. "
"Good, she said. Oh by the way do you want to go to the claw machine again?"
"You got us kicked out though Marin, I don't think he'll let us back in.
"Well it's worth a try right?"
"I suppose", he looked outside. The sun wasn't down yet, it might still be open. They went to the crane game and walked in.
"Ah, you again!" The store owner said with shock and an angry look.
"Hi!" Marin said. "I promise I won't grab you this time."
"Mmm, fine. But it's 100 rupees for you to play."
She looked to Link. "Can I borrow some money honey?"
He gave her 100 rupees and she played the game. Winning a heart piece. "Here Link."
"Thanks."
They went back home and Tarin was out of the bath. Here let me get you some fresh water. She dumped the dirty water out and he got in. Marin kissed his cheek and left him alone to bathe. He got out and went inside. Marin kissed him again and Link kissed back and they moved their lips together greedily.
"Oh yeah, that's right." They turned to see Tarin with his hand moving in an up and down motion under the covers looking right at them. They both pulled away, this wasn't a good place to do such things.
"I'll get dinner started for you two."
"DINNER?! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!" Tarin said, sitting up.
Marin laughed, "I thought that would get you up."
Link sat down in the bed and sprawled out. He'd help out with dinner but he was too exhausted. She didn't seem to mind either since she never asked him for any help. Dinner was soon done. It was fish and rice.
"Thanks, Marin", Link said as he ate. Suddenly he thought of Hyrule, he felt guilt, he pushed it out of his mind, he had to forget his promise to Zelda, he had a promise to Marin now and he intended to live his new life in peace.
"Link are you alright?" Marin asked with concern.
"Huh? Yeah why?"
"You look like something is bothering you."
He gulped nervously. He couldn't tell her. He wouldn't. "Nothing." He said and forced a smile.
"He's probably just tired, Marin. We've had a long day today."
Link nodded. "It's true we did have a long day. I'm just tired."
He finished his meal and washed the plate off.
"Do you want anymore?"
"No, eat Marin, and thanks for dinner, he kissed her cheek and laid in the bed letting out a big sigh. Let me know when you're done eating guys, "I'll do the dishes." He put his arms under his head and slowly drifted off to sleep.
"Link….. Link…" Zelda's voice said echoing in the darkness, "why link…. You promised to always protect us… come back link… please….."
Guilt welled up in his heart, "Zelda, I'm sorry. I can't, I'll kill everyone here!"He looked around but was in complete darkness. He ran through the darkness trying to find his way out.
"Link…. Please… come back…. We need you…."
"No!" He yelled angrily
"Please…." Zelda begged him, sadness in her eyes. Everything went black and he then heard the laugh of Gannon and a scream.
"Gah!" He sat up with a start. He put a hand to his chest. He shirt clung to him and his teeth were chattering, his body shivering.
"Link…?"
His blood ran cold at this and his eyes widened in fear, Zelda tormented him in the waking world as well now.
"Link….whats wrong?"
He nearly jumped out of his skin when a gentle hand was put to his forearm. He looked over to his left to find Marin half sleep, eyes shut and hand on his forearm. He sighed heavily.
"I- I'm fine."
"Link, come on. No secrets, spill it."
"Marin, I'm f-"
"Spill, spill, spill…. Go on, you're not fine and we both know it", she said with a deep yawn. She rubbed his arm soothingly, calming his nerves. "I won't judge you, just let me in…"
He ran hand through his wet sweaty hair,... he was silent a while as he processed his emotions trying to organize them before speaking, prepping himself to open up.
"Link… are you listening…?" She asked, mildly annoyed. Her brown eyes looked at him annoyed now.
"Yeah, yeah just give me a sec okay?" He said. "I….I had a dream."
"Okay…a bad dream?"
"Yeah…"
"Of what?"
"Of…. Of…Zelda."
"Zelda..? Didn't you call me that when you first got here?"
"Yesh… I did…"
"Who is she..?"
"Someone I used to know. I made a promise… a promise to….to always protect Hyrule."
"Mmm…sooo…. You're feeling guilty for abandoning Hyrule then…."
"Yeah, that's exactly it…." he said, hugging himself uncomfortably. "I'm never leaving you, I promised you, but…."
"It was just a dream Link. I'm sure it'll go away eventually."
"Yeah. Yeah you're right." He sighed.
"Feel better?"
"Yeah, a little."
"Good. Now, go back to sleep." She said, wrapping her arms around his chest in a firm hug. He hugged her back and sighed in relief. He had the same dream when he finally fell back to sleep.
Link awoke from an unsatisfied sleep, he wanted to sleep more, the chills he felt struck him to his core but he forced himself up and shook Tarin. "Tarin, it's time to get up."
"Ugh five more minutes."
Link rolled his eyes. Meet me at the beach house when you're ready to work. "Tarin, I don't have time for this."
"Link, please. Have some patience with my father. He's not used to getting up this early", Marin said sleepily from the bed.
Link sighed and nodded and walked over leaning down and pecking her lips tenderly before grabbing his sword and walking out. He walked through the village, the morning dew clinging to his boots as he stumbled through the darkness of the morning. He picked up the rocks in front of the valley he needed to go through to get to the animal village. And walked over to the portal.
"Link!" He turned to see Marin racing towards him. Sandals on flimsily and her morning bed head shaking in the wind as she naruto ran towards him like a total weeb.
"What's up?"
"I told you I wanted to come along last night, I haven't been to the village in a while. My singing might encourage them to help you and Tarin out anyway. I might help a little with the house too. It's our house after all. I think I should pull some of the weight in this."
"You don't have to do that."
"Yeah I do. It's not fair for you to do it on your own, and father shouldn't have to help you, it's not his house."
Link thought about it. "Okay but there's also another house we could look at." He said to her.
"Oh yeah? Where's that?"
"Not too far from the beach house we're fixing up."
"Ok we can look at it some time but not today."
"Deal." They got to the animal village by warping and walked into the village. A young rabbit gasped.
"Marin! Guys Marins here!" The animals came out and talked amongst themselves excitedly at her presence.
She waved, "hi guys! We have a request for you-"
"Sing for us!"
"Yes, sing!"
"Well um actually-"
They all began chanting for a song. She rolled her eyes with a smile. "Okay okay but just one."
6 hours later
Link laid in the grass relaxed by Marins songs but also annoyed that they were wasting time. Each time she got done singing her song the animals demanded another. And Marin didn't refuse or even try to argue with them.
"Marin, we're here to get help with our house, not sing." Link said. Marin ignored him at first but after she was done with her song she nodded.
"Your right. Guys, we've come here because we need help with our house."
"All the way in Mabe village? We aren't going there."
"Well that's nice of you" she said sarcastically, "but that's not where our house is anyway. It"s the old abandoned beach house."
"Where is that?"
"The beach?" Link sad mildly annoyed.
"On the beach?"
"Or near it?"
"Does it matter? Just come with us! We need help fixing it up." Link said annoyed, he'd waited patiently for six hours he was at his wits end now.
"Link calm down",Marin said.
"No! I was calm for six hours. I'm done being calm, we need help, Marin always comes here and sings for you guys all the time. The least you can do is help refurbish our new house!"
"Link, don't be rude!"
"No he's right Marin , we're sorry we'll come and help you guys."
"Really? Thank you!"
"No problem."
They all walked out of the village with tools and supplies, Link cut down any monster that attacked them. Within the hour they were at the beach house and got to work on it.
Marin said to the animals. The group had gotten a lot done. They fixed the floorboards, and the walls. Took the tiles off the roof and cleaned out all the mold inside. Link used his magic powder to kill it all. They took out the mattress and tossed it into the ocean because fuck the environment! They dusted the house and replaced the door. There was a lot to do still but it was more than half way there now. They also got all the plants and stuff out.
"Thanks so much guys!"
"Yeah no problem Marin", they all said.
"Anything you Marin."
"Can you all come back and help tomorrow?"
"No, it's too far and we are lazy."
"Ugh fine", Marin said with a forced smile. Link and Marin walked the animals back home and warped back to Mabe village. They got back and Marin walked towards the village entrance, Link wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her in close and kissed her neck, he brought his face to her ear, "I can't wait to finally get out of your dad's house." He whispered in it.
Marin blushed, "neither can I…"
The next day Tarin and Link went back to the beach house with Paphl and retiled the roof and brought Marins mattress into the home.
"Well, I think it's done."
"No , it is not, but it's able to be lived in now. Thanks Tarin, and you too Paphl."
"Yep no problem. Ima go get lost in the mountains now."
"WHY DO YOU KEEP GETTING LOST ON PURPOSE?!"
"THE ADRENALINE RUSH BITCH!" He then ran out of the house and out of sight.
"I'M NOT SAVING YOU THIS TIME YOU IDIOT!"
"Well, let's get back to the village, you can get Marin after we have dinner."
"Well I mean it's gonna be a l-"
"I insist you stay for dinner Link. Please."
"Fine.
The two men went back home and Marin had dinner ready for them. They ate together and talked.
"Well, Marin, I'll miss you, Link, take care of her."
"Father, you talk like I'm leaving the island!"
"You are leaving the village, which is not much different."
"I'll visit you, don't be so disheartened", she said, putting a hand on him .
He smiled. "You best. I'll miss you if you don't. I'll visit too."
"Good."
They talked for a few more hours before leaving.
Marin hugged her father, he kissed her forehead and she headed out. "Take care of her Link!"
"I will Tarin."
They walked home after that. Link fought off the monsters as they did so. Within ten minutes they were home. Marin looked around. This place still needs work.
"Yes, but it's at least liveable now." Link said as he wrapped his arms around her upper body and kissed her cheek going down her neck to her shoulders. She moaned in pleasure as he suckeled her neck. Her hands running over his back and fists clenching his shirt tightly. He then let her go and they both undressed, she got on the bed and he quickly got on top of her they fucked, then laid together in each other's arms cuddling, they fell asleep in the others arms
The next day all they did was sleep in and cuddle for most of the day. Eventually Link got up though. He went to the beach and got some crabs and Marin went fishing. After that Link went to Dampe's.
"Hey Dampe."
"Ah Link, how are you?"
"Good, I'm here to test out some of those dungeons you talked to me about."
"Good good. I never thought you'd do it."
"I wasn't planning it, but l'm…. I've got time now."
"Well come here and make a dungeon then!" Link did so and went in and did the dungeon. Then he went back home. He kissed Marin as he got in and they ate dinner. It was fish and crabs, she used his staff to cook them. After dinner they made love again.
That night link had the same nightmare. He woke with a jolt. Marin was asleep this time though. He sighed and went back to bed.
Link and Marin had gone to the beach, Link had taken his boots off and was in the water with a net he had made from some vines he found and was tossing it out into the water, he was deep out there, it was up to his waist.
Marin sat on the beach rubbing her feet against the sand. "It's so nice out here!" She called to him from the beach.
"Yeah it's even nicer in the water he called back."
"Is that an invitation?"
"Sure is, get in here and get wet!"
"Well you don't need to tell me twice, she waded deeper waters and sighed, "it's nice and warm in here." She said happily.
"Well it is a tropical island, I dont think I've ever seen it snow here."
"I don't think has in my day, in fact I don't recall ever hearing about it either." Link smiled and splashed her while she was distracted making her squeal, "hey!" She splashed him back laughing.
They soon were in an all out splashing fight, laughing and squealing loudly. Link soon grabbed her she she laughed trying to get away, he kissed her neck and soon made it to her lips, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in tight, their tongues explored their mouths ahs their lips smacked against the others moaning and grunting as their hands explored their bodies, Link's shirt was soaked enough to cling to his body so Marin could feel his chest and abs as she explored his body with her hands.
Marin suddenly stopped when one of his hands rubbed her inner thigh, "let's not do that here Link."
"Alright, fine." She got off him and he grabbed the net and pulled it out of the water and put it on land. A crab came up to them and Link stabbed it with his sword killing it. He hunted a few more crabs and brought them over to the net
"Yoohoo!"
They looked out to the sea and saw the mermaid.
"Hey Pearl!" Marin called out to her with a wave.
"Really her name is Pearl?"
"Yeah why?"
"She made me get her a pearl necklace. So cliché he said."
"Don't be rude", Marin snapped, waving her finger in his face.
"Yes ma'am."
"Good boy."
Pearl swam closer to them to the point she was pushed onto land. "Hello, I heard you both got married."
"Yes we did", Marin confirmed, "sorry for not inviting you. Maybe we should have had it on the beach?" Marin said to Link
"It's fine really, though I really would have loved to have been there, what's done is done. Congratulations", she said with a smile.
"Oh thank you Pearl."
"Of course, I mean it sincerely." She looked at the fish, " I see you have caught some fish."
"Yes, it's our dinner for the next few nights, you can have some if you like." Marin said to her.
"Oh no that's okay. There's plenty of other fish in the sea, as the saying goes."
"So you just came to say congrats?" Link asked?
"Why else would she come, Link?" Marin asked, annoyed by him asking that, acting as if she was a bother.
"Yes that's all." She said, "could you give me a little push into the deeper waters Link?"
"Um sure." He grabbed her tail and she slapped her tail to the ground out of his grip.
"Don't grab there please, you might take some scales off!" She snapped but was clearly trying to be polite and civil about it.
"Okay fine, how do we do this then?" Link asked, starting to get annoyed.
She held her arms out to him. "Carry me, bridal style."
"You're kidding." He looked at Marin and she shrugged.
"I can do it if you want, Pearl."
"No no it's fine please Link I insist you do it."
He sighed and looked at Marin. She nodded and waved to him to just do it.
He nodded. "Fine. He knelt down and she wrapped her arms around his neck. He wrapped his around her back and under the middle of her tail and lifted her up and carried her out to the water.
She brought her face to his, her lips close to his ear, "I lied you know. I came here to talk to you." Link was silent as he walked out into the waters, deeper and deeper. "You haven't awoken the Wind Fish. You have all the instruments but have done nothing with them." She spat in disgust.
"If I wake the Wind Fish, everyone dies. Including you." He whispered to her.
"You promised to protect Hyrule, yet here you are, playing with fish and a little island girl who doesn't even exist. It's all a dream. None of us are real. Not even Marin.
Link let go and her tail fell into the water with a big splash, she yelped as gravity pulled her down forcing her to sink down, now her face was up to his chest. She looked up at him with a stone cold serious frown on her face. Eyes sharp as his sword and cold as ice. Her hands around his neck went down to his shoulders. Her grip was barely there, she was gentle but her face was firm and unpleasant.
"You're in the deeper waters, now get off me." Link said coldly.
She slowly let her hands slide down his shoulders Into the water, her eyes never left his. And she never blinked once, "wake the Wind Fish Link."
"You'll be dead."
"We were damned the moment you stepped foot into our world, if you wake the Wind Fish we die quickly and painlessly. If you don't, we die slowly and gruesomely by the monsters of your dreams."
"Link, Pearl? Is everything okay out there?" Marin called from the shore.
"Everything's fine Marin, we're just talking about fish! Pearl called over too chipperly, a big happy smile on her face as she said it. She went back to being serious seconds later. If you love her you'll wake the Wind Fish", before he could tell her to put a stick up her ass she dove under the water and swam off out of sight. Link turned and waded back to land.
"Is everything okay? You look troubled." Marin said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm fine."
"What did she say to you?"
"Wake the damn Wind Fish." He spat angrily.
"Oh my", Marin said, looking out to the ocean uncomfortably. Link grabbed the net with fish and walked home. Marin quickly grabbed the dead crabs and followed behind him.
The days went by and everything was smooth. Sometimes they would go and visit the animal village. Link was at home right now with Marin eating breakfast, crabs and fish that Link had caught from the ocean the day before, "you're a good cook Marin", Link said with a smile."
She smiled back. "Thank you. It is pretty good. Not gonna lie."
The front door suddenly busted open and Tarin ran into their home. "LINK!" He yelled out of breath and bug eyed.
"Tarin. What's wrong?!" Link asked, standing up in surprise.
Marin watched him warily from the table "father? Why don't you come sit down."
"No time, Monsters. In the village, hurry!" He said breathlessly.
"Leave it to me", Link said as he ran to his gear and raced off towards Mabe village with his feather boots leaving Tarin in the dust. He leaped over enemies and threw away the rocks and cut through the foliage to the village. When he got there, moblins were attacking.
He threw his boomerang and hit one of them in the face before cutting it down. He blocked three spears thrown at him with his mirror shield, sending them right back at the attackers. The remainders fled, Link had managed to cut down over half of the invading moblins.
"Is everyone alright?" Link asked a random boy,
"Old man Ulrira!" He cried pointing to his home, it was set ablaze by the moblin invaders.
Link ran over, to the blazing house and fearlessly, leapt inside through the flames.
He looked around coughing and hacking. There was too much smoke to see anything right now. "Ulrira, where are you?!" He called into the black.
"Over here!" He said coughing.
Link raced over to where he heard the voice and found him still in his rocking chair, the old coot didn't bother leaving it, Link did not question it, there was no time, he grabbed him by the wrist and wrapped an arm around him leaning him onto his shoulder to support him. "I'm getting you out."
"Thank you thank you." He said gratefully through a coughing fit.
The roof suddenly caved in on them. Link was forced to a knee, the roof mere inches from his head, near the door it had caved to the floor. They were trapped with no way out Link looked around, racking his brain for an idea. He only had one, he took out a bomb and tossed it about five feet away from them.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Ulrira screamed in horror and shock ad he saw the glow of the bomb and heard the hiss of the burning bomb.
"A little!" He replied watching the bomb with anticipation. The bomb went off putting a hole in the roof and Link dragged him out. He shoved him violently to the ground making him hit his head on the ground with a thud. "Sorry Ulrira."
"Ugh. It's fine, kid." He coughed. "Where's my wife?"
Tarin conveniently appeared out of nowhere and sighed. "I'm sorry old man Ulrira. She didn't make it."
"W-what?" He said shakily.
"I'm sorry." The moblins got her.
"…..Yahoo…" At that moment, Link saw life leave his eyes. He seemed to become a shell of his former self.
It's your fault, you did this, should have woken the wind fish…
Link thought to himself, feeling guilt drip into his soul. Link gripped his sword and shield tighter, angry at himself for not getting here sooner.
Should have woken the wind fish. Wake the wind fish. Before you hurt anyone else.
"Link", he jumped and looked to Tarin wide eyed. Tarin looked at him concerned, "Are you okay?" He asked with a firm hand on his shoulder.
"Y-yeah. Fine." He said shakily, and pushed Tarins hand off his shoulder.
"You're hurt." Tarin noted casually.
"Huh?"
Tarin pointed to his arm, a large piece of wood was jutting out from it, blood gushed from the wound staining his clothes, he was covered in blood and he didn't even know it.
"How'd that get in there?"
"Come on, let's get you patched up Link." Tarin said grabbing Ulrira amd heading off, Link nodded and followed him.
