Disclaimer: I own nothing, and while this is my first RK fic on FF.net, it definitely isn't the first one I've written. So please don't flame me. I needed a BIG break from my other stories.. Sorry to any fans, but I couldn't think enough to finish it. Well, none of you will ever let me finish it. Anyway, on with the story I wrote for my english class.

The Voice

The twenty-eight year old red haired man walked down the semi-crowded streets of Feudal Tokyo. His thoughts drifted with the falling snow. it had happened again. Himura Kenshin had become the one thing he loathed to be; the feared assassin, Hitokiri. Everything he had fought to overcome since the revolution came crashing down around him.

Kenshin reached his home at the Kamiya Dojo. His rushing thoughts automatically fell to Kamiya Kaoru, his wife. She had been so adamant about him not leaving to fight again. Kaoru had even gone so far as to threaten him. He was terrified she would leave him, but he had to fight. That little nagging voice demanded it of him. He calmly walked into the dojo yard to find Kaoru sitting on the porch holding their son, Kenji. "How am I supposed to expain to him why his father is always gone?" she questioned him. Kenshin's lavender eyes widened in shock. He never expected her to say that. Just then there came a knock at the gate. When Kenshin opened it, a messenger handed him a letter. He shuddered, and the little voice in his head laughed with pleasure when he read it.

The next morning Kenshin left his wife and son to travel to Kyoto. The letter bade him to leave immediately, and the killer in him obliged happily. Slowly he made his way to Kyoto. The going was extremely difficult in the winter's snow. He reached the building he was told to go to and crouched in wait. Then, suddenly, the moment came. Kenshin sprang from his hiding space, bringing the hidden katana out from its sheath. The blade barely made a sound as it punctured the politician's skin and quickly slid into his heart. In that moment he realized what his life had become. He would surely lose everything he held dear, again. Kenshin quickly wrote a letter to Kaoru. Hopefully she would read it and understand.

Kenshin rode sadly home. He had gone against himself. The evil inside his heart had broken through, despite his attempts to change. Kaoru was waiting for him when he returned. She was holding Kenji in her arms so she wouldn't shake. The look on her face alone was enough to end his pain. She smiled at him and set their son down. Kenshin's breath caught at the sight of her. "I got your letter Kenshin," she whispered. "I love you." She opened her arms to him as he moved toward her. Everything seemed to fit in that moment, as the little voice of his evil disappeared forever.
