The Hunger for Power
Dark storm clouds ravaged across the skies of the desolate wasteland. Lightning split the skies over the lifeless land. Well, almost lifeless. A lone figure stood on a pillar of black rock amid the storm. He was armored in dark blue, with nothing showing within it except his piercing red eyes within the helmet. He was unafraid. On the contrary, he was far more fearsome and terrifying than this or any storm. He was waiting, waiting for something. His crimson mane blew through the winds as he focused on his thoughts. His only thought. To be complete. To become powerful. He had been waiting for years for it. Ever since his joining with the sword. The ultimate sword. The sword of legends.
Soul Edge.
The weapon was the embodiment of power. A force of unstoppable might. And yet, its full power had yet to be realized by him. He was close before. He had slaughtered many in order for its power to grow; to feed the blade's insatiable hunger of souls until it was filled. And when that happened, he would be the supreme one. The ultimate embodiment of power. But that was thwarted. Stopped by that damn boy and girl. A red cloaked man wielding a strangely powerful staff and a Chinese woman who possessed an even more powerful weapon. He sensed its strength even when she didn't. It wasn't until he was defeated that he realized what it truly was.
Soul Calibur...
His red eyes narrowed beneath the azure helmet. 'Damn that accursed weapon.' It had somehow damaged and shattered his precious blade before it was fully completed. And without the second blade, he wasn't powerful enough to stop the boy warrior and his enchanted staff. But that wasn't the worse of it. The worse was that he hesitated. He had the opportunity to kill the woman and he hesitated. 'Why? Why did that happen?' Simply because of an insignificant voice that spoke before he could deliver the killing blow. But the voice...so familiar. His fist clenched tightly. 'If not for that voice...' But that didn't matter anymore. He would reach his pinnacle soon. If he had to, he will kill every soul on the planet to complete this.
His eyes suddenly caught movement. Deep within one of the razor-edged canyons, a small black object approached him. As it came closer, he saw a small glowing object with it. He grinned. 'He has found another.' The black raven swooped through the mountains and soared upward until it perched itself on his master's shoulder. Without another delay, the bird dipped his head down into his master's now-open palm and flew away. The dark knight looked down at the object. It was a small piece of metal, glowing in an unearthly red aura. He clenched it in his fist. 'This is it. Soon. Very, very soon.' His fist rose into the air and electricity emitted out. It curved its way down to the other arm where the demonic weapon was. Power filled it once again and a single eye opened on the hilt, awakening the blade.
Nightmare was pleased.
Now, it was time to feed. Time for him and his sword to consume more souls. Time for him to grow in power. Time to show all...the greatest nightmare! He raised the blade into the storm and it exploded with awesome power as he howled toward the heavens...
"Souls! Give me strength!"
