Chapter 1 "Tix!" Tix turned to see Kayla barreling toward her. "What, Kayla?" Tix asked, her back to Kayla, hoping she'd leave. "I have something really important to tell you." Tix looked at her watch. She had two hours to finish her homework and had done barely anything at all. "Fine, Kayla, but hurry up. I..." "I can't tell you here. Let's go to your room." "Hold on," Tix said, hitting the button for a can of Diet Coke. "Dammit!" she said, hitting the machine as hard as she could. "Okay, let's go." When they got to Tix's room, Kayla closed and locked the door. "Ugh," Brianna said when she saw Kayla. "Why is she here?" Ruth whispered to Tix, trying to be as quiet as she could, knowing Kayla would be able to hear her if she said it any louder. "Okay, I was going through my parents' files and I found out," Kayla looked around at the girls' faces, "that Warner Academy is going co-ed." Kayla jumped up and down excitedly, but stopped when she saw that she was the only one doing so. "Are you serious?" Ruth asked with her mouth hanging open. "Do you think I'd joke about this?" Tix and Kristin exchanged glances. "This is so cool," Ruth said, jumping off the edge of her bed. The other four girls looked at her in disbelief. "Damian and Greg will be coming here. Yay!" "Wait," Kristin said, walking over to a chair in the corner. "How do you know they're gonna come here?" "Because our moms are friends and they talk about absolutely everything and my mom will definitely bring this up." "That still doesn't mean they're gonna be comin' here," Brianna chimed in. Ruth thought about the statement, then looked over at Tix who was staring out the window. "What do you thing, Tix? You're normally the first one to speak up about things like this." Ruth walked over and sat next to her friend. "Huh? Oh, whatever," Tix said, looking at Ruth for only a second before walking back to the bed. "What's with you?" Kristin asked. "Nuthin. I'm just tired." "Yeah, so am I," Kayla said, stretching. "I'm gonna head back to my dorm." "Okay. Good night, Kayla," Tix said, and with that Kayla left. "I should probably be going to," Brianna said. "I have a lot of homework to do before first period. Bye!" "Shit!" Tix hit herself in the head and then squealed when she realized she'd hit a bruise. "What?" Brianna asked, turning back around. "I have to finish my homework for first period. Shit!" "Oh, well, do it now," Ruth said, trying to be helpful. "There's no point," Kristin said before Tix could even open her mouth. "She'll get one word written down and pass out." Brianna laughed and turned back to the door and left. Tix turned her fan on, told her friends goodnight and went to sleep. She didn't know what she was gonna tell her teachers. She had already used so many excuses that she had none left. Oh well, she thought, I'll just worry about it tomorrow.
