'Salem's Lot: Endgame

Chapter One:

Drive In- 2003

"No, it's not that."

Janessa quietly sat down. "So, why do you want to go back over there? You know what happened. It probably isn't a pretty sight."

She was a priestess, in love with the faith, trying to rid the world of evil vampires. She was only thirty, and had wavy blond hair that stood out in a crowd.

I, however, was a vampire myself, with a soul to match. I wasn't like them in the Lot. They were something else. I was stowing my clothes in my suitcase, and putting it in the car.

"I don't give a fuck to that, Janessa. I just don't like the prospect that they're going to get out of there and into, say, New York or something." I closed the trunk. "Are you going or not?"

She sighed. "Well, I don't think you're going to defeat them yourself. They're quite cunning by now."

"Well, we better hurry." I got in and started the car as she opened the door to the battered sedan.

"I wish you would get a better car."

"Well, get the money for it." I drove out of there, out of Hartford.

Janessa touched her crucifix and sighed. I looked at her.

"You better get a grip, okay? It's not going to be a pretty sight, as you said."

"Yeah, but…"

"Go on."

"I used to live there. My parents moved when it started happening." She looked out of the window. "Good thing, actually."

"You knew about the vampires?"

"Yeah, Mark Petrie told me about them. I didn't really believe it, but…it's helpful now." She almost smiled at that, but her eyes were still hard and cold.

I stopped the car at a motel. "It's almost morning."

"I know." She looked at me. "It's kinda amazing how the night's short."

I smiled. "I'm going to get a room."

Janessa stood over me as I woke up from the death slumber. I glared.

"Okay, what did you do that for?"

"I thought you were dead." She smiled.

I groaned. "I hate those jokes." I got up and went to take a shower, then changed into fresh clothes.

"How can you take a shower, anyway? I thought-"

"I'm not a normal vampire." I sat down and put my shoes on. "If I was, I wouldn't be here, would I?"

A/N: I know it's probably confusing, but everything will be explained later…
