Chapter 7
→Arwintar Nazarick-mansion / Arachama ←
Arachama woke up with Entoma in her hands. Once she stirred, Entoma also woke up and began to hug her. They then moved into the living room, when Entoma went to prepare breakfast.
Arachama then went to Yuri Alpha and waited there, since she could see the entrance to the mansion and the pathway through the forest. Entoma joined them with two plates of bacon, scrambled eggs and one bun.
"I have to apologize, mom. We sadly have run out of "albion sheep" for the foreseeable future." Enti reported.
"It is no problem, Enti. Thank you for bringing me breakfast." Arachama said and began to dig in.
"The rooms were prepared, as you wished. Foire will look after the smaller sisters of Arche. They should arrive any minute now." Yuri said.
"I will take care of Arche. Ahh. There they come. Do we have more for breakfast?" Arachama asked and Entoma nodded.
While Entoma moved to the kitchen, Arachama moved back to her living room. She heard childish voices and the voice of Arche. They filled her heart with joy and she felt relieved. She also heard Foire taking their luggage. She then heard Yuri telling them to follow her. She heard the steps coming closer until they were in front of the door to her living room.
"Please let everything go without a problem." Arachama begged inside her head. She feared that she couldn't take the loss.
The door opened and Arche walked in. She was followed by her sisters, who were obviously wearing their best clothes.
"Good Morning lady Arachama." Arche greeted.
"Good Morning spider lady." Her sister said.
"Ahhh. They are so cute." Arachama smiled in bliss, Mini-Arachama melted in her mind.
"Ara ara. What cute girls you are. Did you eat breakfast?" Arachama asks worriedly.
"Sadly we had to move out as fast as possible, mother." Arche said, in a monotone voice.
"Ara. Such terrible parents. Yuri, dear, please get them something to eat." Arachama ordered Yuri Alpha.
The sisters meanwhile came closer, obviously intrigued by her appearance. They counted her legs and tried to get a feel of the hairs on her multiple legs.
"Ara ara. Curious ones, aren't you?" Arachama asked.
"What are you lady?" one of them asked.
"Well, why don't you introduce yourself and then I introduce myself?" Arachama asked.
"I am Kuuderika" said the one in a red dress.
"And I am Ureirika" answered the other one, wearing a blue dress.
"I am Arachama, an arachne. That is why I have a bit of a spider." Arachama grinned. She then took the twins up.
"They are light. Should check them over after some introduction." Arachama thought.
"How is it? Being a spider?" Kuuderika asked and Arachama chuckled.
"I feel normal. I like my children, I like my magic and I like to play games" Arachama explained and smiled.
The two sisters looked around the room and Arachne held them carefully.
"I heard you are making progress, Arche?" Arachama asked.
"Yes, lady Arachama. I still am working to summon "Corner Spider" and my sisters nearly have "House Spiders" figured out." Arche grinned.
"Is that so little girls?" Arachama asks and caresses Arches' sisters.
Both cheered and tried. Sadly only a summon-circle appeared.
"Ara ara. You use a bit too much mana. Try a bit less." Arachama asked.
They tried and small spiders appeared. They were cripples, some legs missing.
Nonetheless. Both twins cheered and tried next time they got closer.
They worked for hours until the twins got "House Spiders" right. Arche meanwhile tried to cast "Corner Spider". She only got crippled spiders. Arche got visibly upset.
"Ara ara. Arche, you need some time. Please take a small break and then we can start again." Arachama ordered and Arche nodded.
Arachama let the girls rest in her living room, while she looked through a "Mirror Of Remote Viewing". She wanted to see the meeting, so she can intervene if necessary.
"Can't be too careful with bureaucrats," Arachama sighed.
→ Arwintar Nazarick-mansion / Yuri Alpha ←
Yuri Alpha was preparing for her meeting with the representative of the city hall. She had prepared some cookies on a table in the living room. Foire and Fith had cleaned the foyer and living room to perfection. Foire was now cleaning the carriage, while Fith was waiting inside the foyer.
The wait seemed to be short, as Yuri was able to hear multiple voices inside the foyer. She saw a strange picture. There was Fith, looking confused and desperate. Besides her was a clerk, wearing a red shirt with black pants. The other two were an old man and a woman, who covered her one eye.
"What is going on here?" Yuri asked as the clerk and the woman still had a heated argument.
"You are not the one I am searching for. Do you mind if I look in the northern part? I feel a presence there, thank you very much." The old man simply stated.
"Let him come. I can end him if problems arise" Yuri heard through "Message" and let go of the old man.
The women and the clerk meanwhile still screamed at each other.
"Can we please proceed with the meeting?" Yuri asked, getting slightly annoyed.
The banter continued. Yuri listened for a short while. Sadly her temper grew angrier and angrier.
"How dare those two. In the house of a supreme being." thought Yuri.
"Stop bantering. You are like two brats." Yuri shouted. Both looked at her like a fish out of water.
"Now that I have your attention. Can we move to my living room to speak about trading? I am sure that your bantering can wait till you are outside" scolded Yuri.
"Yes mam." Both said and looked to the floor.
The meeting started with pleasantries and small talk. For Yuri it was nothing more than boring, but she knew that this was considered polite in the Baharut Empire. After a while she saw the old man return, with a grin.
"Did you find what you looked after?" Yuri asked.
"I have my closure. Leinas Rockbruise, please go to the northern part of the mansion. She will speak with you about your condition." The old man said. The clerk meanwhile was perplexed.
"Can we go back to the topic at hand?" He said.
The exchanges continued. After some time Yuri managed to go to the topic. She signaled for them to follow and lead them to the upper storage-level.
"Here we store leather, iron, spider-silk and healing potions," Yuri explained.
"Ahh. The leather is of exceptional quality. As is the iron. In terms of the silk, you can sell it directly over the market. The potions, if it is allowed, should be appraised. Master Fluder. Could you appraise them?" The clerk said. Fluder nodded.
"How did you get this? It is called "Blood Of The Gods". How did you get so many?" The now named Fluder asked.
"In my former homeland we produce them. Sadly we are probably the only ones to travel to my homeland." Yuri explained.
"Ahh. Such a shame. It is extremely valuable. The Empire can't buy them, since they are considered relics." Fluder said.
"Then we will only buy the leather and the iron. I can offer 100 gold coins for one of the fillings of a container. If a container is only partially filled we will haggle. For Iron we will have a price of 300 per container. I will come here in three weeks. Have to organize many carriages with containers." The clerk explained.
"That is fine." Yuri said.
She then led them back into the living room, where the women sat smilingly.
"Ask about the price for spider-silk" Arachama had ordered over "Message".
"I have a question. How many do you think we could get for the spider-silk?" Yuri asked.
"Spider-silk is extremely rare. I once heard only a few pillows of the emperor were made of silk. You could sell them for around 5 gold coins per pillow. The rest is math." The clerk grumbled.
"This will be a long and hard afternoon" Yuri thought as the smalltalk resumed and consumed the rest of the day. The meeting only finished when Foire moved in with plates for dinner. The group of the clerk left, having signed the necessary papers, an angry Yuri behind.
"Not even getting to the point," Yuri fumed.
"As you say lady Yuri." Fith agreed.
"I will write a report." Yuri said and left Fith to her orders.
→ Arwintar Nazarick-mansion / Arachama ←
Arachama looked at the mirror, when she saw the old man having the same eyes as Arche. She also saw him speaking to Yuri.
"Let him come. I can end him if problems arise" she sent Yuri over ''Message". She saw the old man moving towards her living room.
Once he entered he looked around with wonder in his eyes. He then saw Arachama and bowed.
"This is by far the biggest abyss of magic I have seen thus far." He cried out, tears in his eyes.
"What have I done?" Arachama asked herself. She then saw Arche and her sisters rouse a bit, before they awoke.
"And why are you looking at other people's mansions?" Arachama asked.
"I am trying to find my most promissing deciple, sadly she left my apprenticeship because of her stupid family." He said.
"Ok. Then let's start with an introduction. Since you broke my privacy, you will start." Arachama grumbled.
"I am Fluder Paradyne. I like the research of magic. My biggest wish is to find the depth of the abyss, I call magic. I can cast tier 6 magic." Fluder bowed.
"I am Arachama, obviously I am an arachne and therefore I am hated by humans of Re-Estize, Slane Theocracy and the Baharut Empire. Of the latter I don't necessarily have proof but an educated guess. I like to knit and care for my children. I at the moment teach an apprentice and house her with her sisters. I can cast magic to tier 8." Arachama replied, looking in Fluders eyes.
"Shouldn't tell him how high I can go." Arachama sighed in her head.
"You have an apprentice?" Fluder asked, looking a bit depressed.
"Yes. But why the sad look?" Arachama asked.
"When I saw your signature, I decided to ask for an apprenticeship." Fluder replied.
"What is your chosen field in magic?" Arachama sighed.
"I want to know all the magic there is. I am most proficient in necromancy." Fluder answered.
"I am proficient in entomancy. In terms of necromancy I know a good caster. He is also a good bit stronger in regards to magic." Arachama explained.
"Entomancy. It is rarely used, learned and taught." Fluder cried in joy.
"I see." Arachama sighed again. Arche and her sister woke up and looked around the room. Arche was obviously surprised when she saw Fluder Paradyne in the room.
"This is Fluder Paradyne.." Arachama began.
"I know him. He was my former teacher." Arche looked at Fluder.
"She was my former disciple." Fluder said at the same moment.
"That makes it easier. Now. Kuudeirika and Ureirike, could you visit Foire?" She asked the twins, who went to Arachama, still rubbing their eyes.
"Yes nice lady." They said and then ran off.
"Your sister's Arche?" Fluder asked and Arche nodded.
Fluder and Arche begann to catch up. Arachama decided to use this time.
"Hi, our local larper. I will borrow some books about necromancy from your part of the treasury." She sent over "Message".
"What?" came back
"I might be able to get Nazarick a nice boon, ohhhh great world conqueror." She teased.
"Ahh. Ahh. Ahh. Do we want to speak about criminals and "bipedal sheep?" Monga answered.
"Is it necessary?" Arachama asked.
"Nah. Demiurge and Albedo are going nuts, as always. Talking about a syndicate and information gathering. I only had to sign the orders of Shalltear and Sebas with Solution. Hear you later" Monga replied and cut the connection.
"At least he is getting calmer in his head. Can't imagine if he would stay alone at the last minute. Nah, he would have only cried inside his mind" Arachama thought and smiled.
Arachama looked up and saw that Fluder and Arche were looking at her.
"I will give you an offer. We will sign a contract. I can sadly only give books about necromancy, but my friend is excellent at this craft. In return you will serve Nazarick. See it as a trade with the devil." Arachama went to her office and got paper and ink.
"Can I learn entomancy as well?" Fluder asked with a gaze of a madman.
"If you serve me well. You will act as I or my direct subordinates of Nazarick see fit. You can tell your Emperor that I exist, but not that I am a heteromorph. Like I said. I don't think we are much liked." Arachama said and shoved a pen to Fluder. He read the contract and signed it. Arche meanwhile grinned.
"As you say my lady." Fluder replied.
"Now. I will need the documents for immigration for three people. Foire, Me and my Enti. We will document as humans. If you want I can give the books on necromancy tomorrow after the first lesson on entomancy." Arachama offered.
"As you wish." Fluder replied with zeal in his eyes.
"What have I done?" Arachama asked herself.
"Good. I will see you tomorrow. " Arachama said.
"My lady, if I might give you some advice?" Fluder asked.
"Ohh. Want to start with good feet? Humor me." Arachama grinned.
"The blond woman with me has a curse. She was shunned. Her name is Leinas Rockbruise. If you heal her you will have two advantages.
The first will be that she will be deeply loyal to you. This includes her information about the empire.
The second advantage will be that she will hate how her family and friends will return to her. She hates her family and friends for her abandonment." Fluder explained.
"Ara ara. But what would you gain?" Arachama smiled.
"I see it as part of the contract. While I don't necessarily like her, she has my sympathy for her problem." Fluder said.
"Ara ara. I hope you're right. But I will have another paper ready when she comes in. You understand that I fear she might attack me?" Arachama asked.
"If that would happen you would have acted in self defense and I would have seen it." Fluder offered.
"Go and send her to me. We will meet tomorrow." Arachama ordered.
While Fluder went Arachama rearranged the couch and pillows, to hide her abdomen and other spider-parts. She took her sunhat and pulled it over six of her smaller eyes and waited. She had sent Arche to her bedroom with her sisters.
After some time she saw the blond woman enter the living room.
"Good day, lady." The blond said.
"Ara ara. Good day. I am Arachama. I guess your name is Leinas Rockbruise?" Arachama asked.
"Yes. I guess Fluder Paradyne talked about me?" She asked.
"Ara ara. Curious are we? But I know about the curse. I will appraise it. Then we will sign a contract and then I will cure it, if I can cure it." Arachama smiled.
"Why a contract?" Leinas asked uneasily.
"Simple. I like contracts. The word of a person to do their part. It is either a tool for the good or the evil." Arachama smiled.
"A bit poetic. But I agree, since I am losing hope." Leinas said, a look of defeat settled in her eyes.
"Ara ara. How far would you go for a cure then?" Arachama grinned.
"When I am cured I will do everything for the person." Leinas replied without hesitation and determination in her eyes.
"Ara. I like determination. Now then. Come closer please." Arachama asked and Leinas followed suit.
"I will cast "Appraise Curse" on you. It will feel like an egg cracked on your head. Please don't feel threatened."Appraise Curse". See, all went well" Arachama said.
Leinas shuddered at the first moment and then went at ease again.
"Hmm. It is only a tier 6 curse."Ever Suppurating Body". Easy to cure. But for them? Only applied when a "Foul Ogre" is killed by physical contact." Arachama examined.
"Now. I can cure it. You had a run into an "foul Ogre"?" Arachama asked and Leinas looked shocked.
"How do you know that?" Leinas asked.
"The curse is only applied when a "foul Ogre" is killed with physical contact. You were quite unlucky to find it out that way." Arachama smiled while Leinas eyes reflected hope.
"What will it take?" Leinas asked.
"I will ask for your unyielding loyalty. You will obey me with body and soul. We will both sign the contract. It states your part and me healing and providing." Arachama soothed.
"As you wish." Leinas answered monotone.
"With that voice I get them all." Arachama smiled inside. She wrote the contract fast and shoved it to Leinas. Leinas and Arachama signed it fast and Leina then looked at Arachama questiongly.
"You better lay on the table. It might be painful." Arachama ordered.
"As you wish." Leinas replied and did as asked.
""Greater Break Curse" "Greater Purify" "Greater Heal"" Arachama casted. The reaction was immediate and it looked painful. Arachama went up and into her bedroom. She collected a hand mirror and went back into the living room.
It took Leinas a big amount of will, to not cry out for help. But after a while the glow stopped and Leinas went back up.
"That was a bit more than a"might". What was that curse, if I might ask." Leinas smiled. Arachama handed her the mirror and Leinas inspected her formerly cursed eye. She couldn't believe the results and nearly screamed in happiness. Arachama then placed a spider on her shoulder.
"It was a "Ever Suppurating Body"-curse. It makes you more easily infected with other curses, toxins and illness. It obviously also has a terrible side effect on beauty." Arachama answered.
"Can you cast curses?" Leinas asked curiously.
"I could cast them, but I dislike them. I can purify curses and heal. I like that much more. Though I know a friend who easily likes to cast curses." Arachama grinned.
"Might I ask something?" Leinas asked, a trembling voice present in her question.
"Ohh no. I was too fast. I forgot to cover my body parts" Arachama realized.
"Ara ara. Only in good faith. Might I remind you of our contract?" Arachama soothed.
"I know my lady. Might I ask what species you are?" Leinas asked.
"I am an arachne. I don't know how others of my species are, but I am me." Arachama goofed a bit.
"I see. I thank you." Leinas nodded and bowed.
"And I tell you what you will do. You will resume your post. You will also tell no one what I am and you will cover the former cursed eye. Let it slip over time. You can mention my name, but treat it like a human, not an arachne. I have a feeling that heteromorphs are disliked. Also, I will contact you if I have orders for you." Arachama smiled and hugged Leinas.
"As you wish, lady Arachama." Leinas smiled.
"Now go." Arachama ordered and Leinas Rockbruise went to the meeting.
Arachama watched the meeting and only intervened one time to get the potential prices of her silk. The rest, as it turned out, was smalltalk. After some time Arachama gathered Arche and her sisters and they practiced their summon. The twins were getting better and better. When they had eaten their dinner Arachama let them summon a last time before the day was over. The twins were ecstatic when they managed to summon a good "House Spider" while Arachama was hugged by the twins.
→ Arwintar Emperors palace / Fluder, Leinas and Jircniv ←
Leinas reached the Palace together with Fluder. They had to report back to emperor Jircniv, since he had granted them their respective request. They entered the room from the emperor and Leinas resumed her position as a guard, taking over from an unnamed guard.
Fluder went to Jircniv, who sat on a couch, and bowed.
"I assume it went well?" Jircniv asked.
"Yes, your majesty. I will return to her tomorrow, since she is fragile physically. We wanted to talk more about magic. She also requested documents for three immigrants." Fluder said.
"Oho. So she isn't a native nor registered.?" Jircniv asked.
"She isn't registered. Lady Arachama, with her disciple Entoma, only most recently moved to her friend Yuri Yamana. Yuri Yamana sadly had a meeting with us today and was therefore unable to get the documents" Fluder said.
"Why do you call her lady?" Jircniv asked.
"Yuri Yamana calls her lady. It seems that lady Arachama was a noble in her homeland, but since it is in turmoil they left in haste and asked friends." Fluder explained.
"Makes sense. How strong is she? Could she be an asset?" He asked Fluder.
"If you would know Jircniv" thought Leinas.
"She can cast tier 8 magic, according to herself. The magical presence is bigger than mine, therefore it can be. She specializes in entomancy, a rarely used and learned nishe of magic. If not for military prowess, it is good for intelligence and research. She also knows a good deal about curses, but Leinas said that lady Arachama dislikes them." Fluder reported.
"So she is a good asset. What about the other, less strong presence?" Jircniv asked.
"From what I gathered in smalltalk she is called Entoma and is the disciple of lady Arachama." Fluder stated.
"Is she strong?" Jircniv asked.
"She is proficient as a summoner, sadly she is still learning from lady Arachama. Lady Arachama also has other disciples." Fluder said.
"Is that so?" Jircniv looked bemused.
"Yes. She is called Arche. You may recognise her last name, Furt. She was also my former disciple." Fluder said.
"So you would say they at least shouldn't fall into the hands of the kingdom?" Jircniv reiterated.
"They shouldn't. If we give them the possibility of immigrating, they can contribute in terms of knowledge and maybe intelligence." Fluder stated.
Jircniv nodded and got three papers, wrote a bit and then pressed a seal on all of them.
"Leinas, what do you think about them?" Jircniv asked.
"You already pressed the sigil. But I will humor you" Leinas thought.
"Lady Arachama is knowledgeable and should not be underestimated. If she wants she could pose a big threat to anyone. Luckily for us she will not move out of her house, since her body is frail." Leinas replied.
"So we shouldnt invite her to balls?" Jircniv jested
"I would not advise that." Leinas said.
"Maybe I will see her someday. Fluder give these to her, since you see her tomorrow. These are papers for citizenship, since they seemed to be a big asset." Jircniv smiled genuinely.
Leinas and Fluder nodded.
Leinas did her shift and then reported to her lady, because Fluder told her to, and told her the cover story. First she feared anger, but Arachama simply smiled and hugged her. She also thanked her for telling her.
→ Re-Estice / Renner ←
Princess Renner was a bit scared. She would have to play creatively. She had gotten a massage from her new masters and looked forward to fulfilling the orders. She remembered her first order was to write down as much as she knew about the country and others. She then had to write down her own thoughts on those subjects and how her nobles looked at them.
"How nicely done. Getting information, checking my loyalty and my thoughts in one go. I can't break my part of the contract and turn my forehead into a window for them." Renner reminiscent.
Lady Arachama then had ordered her to gather a small network of spies to get information on the Baharut Empire, which she managed. First she didn't know why, but as it turns out it was for the order she was facing now.
"Clever. Play with human habits." Renner smiled.
She was now looking at the next part of Lady Arachamas plans. She was to tell her father about her network and the "news" she recieved.
Since it was dinner, she was seated with her whole family. It was a big room, similar to all the others, with a big table. At the head sat her father.
Gray hair and beard. He didn't care for the hair and looked defeated. He also wore orange clothing together with a coat on his back. He wore a golden crown and his scepter was leaning against his side. He didn't do much in terms of politics and had turned into an opportunist. His name was Ramposa III.
Her oldest brother and heir of the throne sat besides her father. He wore blue clothing with golden trims. His blond hair was cut short and he had a short beard. He had a muscular build and always wore his proud smile. She hated him, since he had a bashing nature, always wanted violence and was too prideful. He was Prince Barbo.
The second brother was also blond and wore bluish clothing. He didn't wear a beard and had a double chin. He was also fat. How he could move was beyond Renner, but it was not her cup of tea to point it out. Renner also knew that after her this brother was at least clever from time to time. He was Prince Zanac.
"I would like to talk to you after dinner, please," Renner whispered to her father.
"We can, since I have no other appointments today.
"That sounds great," Renner smiled.
"First step is done, now I need to do the rest." Renner thought.
Renner went to her seat and began to eat. It wasn't something she didn't know and it was boring to her, thus she didn't think about her dinner. Barbo boasted about a duel he had and Zanac grumbled about his stupid brother. And Renner silently agreed.
After her brothers left her father signaled for her to follow him into his office. She dutifully followed and they walked into his office.
It was a decorated room, with golden patterns. It had a massive desk and many shelves with books and documents.
"What is it that you need Renner?" Ramposa III asked.
"We both know that the Baharut Empire is a threat, right?" Renner asked.
"Yes. That is the reason why I asked my nobles at the frontier to send spies and prepare for the possibility of war." Ramposa replied.
"How successful were the spies?" Renner asked.
"They were, according to the nobles sending them, killed in action." Ramposa said.
"Such a shame. But what to expect. I would rethink their place. I managed to build a reliable source of information. I also got information that could be a deterrent for us." Renner smiled.
"What do you mean?" Ramposa looked at her dumbfounded.
"I got my hands on reliable sources that our enemy managed to get their hands on a powerful user of magic. Powerful enough that Fluder Paradyne asked for an apprenticeship. I also shudder at the thought that the nobles of our country …." Renner didn't get further when the door to her fathers office was thrown open by none other than her oldest brother.
"Father, how are you?" He asked and looked at her like a pest.
"I was talking with our dear father about something that shouldn't be known by all the palace tomorrow." Renner looked at her brother.
"What could it be? Some new tips on makeup?" Barbo smiled.
"I can't wait to get rid of him." Renner thought and had to concentrate to keep her mask.
"No. I got information about a new card in the game. A magic user, who made Fluder Paradyne, asks for apprenticeship, because the magic caster can use magic of tier 8. Maybe we should be more careful towards the empire?" Renner said.
"What could a magic caster do? They are nothing but cowards and old fools." Barbo boasted.
"Didn't Stronoff nearly die because he was facing a troop composed of magic caster? Wasn't he rescued by a magic caster?" Renner asked.
"Ohh. So they had numbers. And the second was a monster. He should have slain it himself. Now that coward doesnt want to face any monster who terrorize our country." Barbo shot at Renner.
"If you say so brother. I will go. I don't need to hear about a mighty conqueror of the world impersonated by a fool." Renner said and left. She heard her brother fume but it was too late for him to follow her. She smiled when she later read what he said.
"These spiders are scary. No wonder she knew the lists of traitors and conspiracies. The nobles are nearly shouting their plans into my ladies ears." Renner smiled.
""You will meet a friend this evening. Make sure no one is in your room than you"" Renner read from the spiders.
She did as told and locked the door. After a short while she heard a knock on the window. She turned and saw a man with a red tuxedo, leathery wings and pointed ears. She opened a window to let him in and went on one knee.
"Good evening sir. I apologize. I didn't know you would travel through the window. Please make yourself at home." Renner said.
"No problem. I didn't tell you how I would be coming here. I am here on behalf of lady Arachama. Did you do the order she gave you?" The demon asked.
"I did as I was told. Do you want to hear a full report?" Renner asked.
"You will write it down after our meeting is over. Now, lady Arachama said that you had some plans. I will hear your ideas and then we will plan it out further. But I am also sure that the supreme beings already planned our ideas long ago." The demon smiled and pointed towards a table.
"As you wish." Renner smiled. Not her mask-smiles but a genuine smile.
"I like that smile. You seem more like one of us than a human" the demon grinned evilly.
"I take that as a compliment. '' Renner laughed and they began to plan.
