Title: The Black Crane

Summary: Tsuzuki as a child.

Sensei was teaching us to make origami cranes. I really wanted to have the bright green paper but I was pushed aside to the very end of the line. When it was finally my turn there was only black paper left. No one wanted the black paper.

"It's the ugliest so it's perfect for you." I heard the harsh whisper, above the excited chatter of the others comparing which colors were the prettiest.

I wanted to cry but Sensei was already mad.

"Quiet all of you! Back to your seats."

We took our seats and began the lesson.

My crane's wings flapped quite smoothly, even if I had a hard time paying attention.

I was going to show it to my sister, but on the way home my crane was taken and torn to pieces. Those bullies were not satisfied with tearing those wings. Then turned their attention on me.

They told me I was ugly. They told me I was not wanted here. They told me I would never belong. They shouted other things. I wasn't sure which hurt more the stones, the sticks or the words.

I kept running but they still came after me, until I slipped down the hill.

I screamed for help, but I only heard cold cruel laughter in response. Then everything went black.

The laughter was still ringing in my ears as I opened my eyes but I was alone.

It was already dark. It was scary. It wasn't totally dark which was some sort of comfort. There were fireflies. I tried to smile. Sister always said it wasn't so bad if you could still smile.

Oh but it still hurts.
