Finally, the long-awaited final battle has begun! The Lancers have initiated their attack and Academia makes the first counter.
And finally, I get to write a duel (lol).
To FrutalMess: Obviously nobody is 100% a saint, both in fiction and real life, and it is always a joy to write characters that three-dimensional and complex.
To Bluedada: Yep, poor guy got removed from the main storyline because of his overpowered Deck (seriously, Konami could not test Plushfire or at least HOPT everything?) and I think he presents an interesting side of villainy in the story. And of course Leo in my opinion would have fun tormenting Yuri before getting rid of him the moment he stopped being useful to him.

Spiral 7: First Wave
The round front cutting edge of a light shovel made from Real Solid Vision makes a diving contact to the littered ground of debris, brick and dust, hugging as much waste as possible with its large blade. A leg then kicks down to the outer end of the blade, pinning it down the ground further, then with accustomed effort, the person handling the shovel flings the shovel up and swings the shaft to the left. The debris flies into the back of the construction waste truck and rolls over the mountain of trash inside, the strength of the swing makes it sure that the newly added waste of war will stay inside the large garbage bin. The mess of the one-and-a-few-months-give-or-take effort to protect Heartland and the Xyz dimension at large have pretty much regressed the advancement of human society back into the Stone Ages, but hopefully with the intact revolution of Real Solid Vision, the goddamn destructor and savior of this god damn planet one might say, the return of normal human civilization can return as fast as possible.
Watching the garbage truck driving away from the working area and admiring the sun about to sleep from afar, the person flicks his left hand; the small device worn around it stops lighting up and the shovel plus the full-body protective gear disintegrate, giving the visage of a late teenager wearing a purple T-shirt and grey jeans back under the layer of Real Solid Vision.
"Another hard day…"
Sitting down on a large rounded debris not too far from the road back to the Resistance bunker, the young man stares aimlessly on the ground and the grey graveyard of trash ahead. To think just about eighteen months ago, the dark ground of death there used to be a tall building with lively scenery around including the big trees and a pool that he used to visit with his family during weekends…
More than a hundred years ago, they waged war on the world, now it has returned in the form of the very same people with same nationality, albeit a different dimension…
"Ryoga."
A voice of a young girl not too far. Kamishiro Ryoga does not need to look up to know whose voice it belongs to.
"Hey Rio."
Even during the Duel Monster war of life and death does not stop his little sister from being fashionable: hugging blue jeans, hugging blue T-shirt, long hair in braids and he swears he can smell a small pint of her favorite Chanel perfume encircling her feminine aura as well. Of course as her older brother, Ryoga does not like it at all when Rio gets unwanted attention from the other assholes and especially when she intentionally plays up her appearance like that to annoy him; he would always make fun of her for taking too long to go to school in order to impress a boy that she likes, but now that person is under the ground after the last attack, that might be her way of coping with it.
At least she does have a sense of modesty with that black hoodie though, if that is the other reason besides keeping herself warm against the cold breeze out here.
"I told you, you don't need to tire yourself like that." Rio says as she puts the bottle of water to his hand which Ryoga quickly pour down on his stomach in one gulp. The younger sister sighs deeply at the scene.
"Easy Ryoga, you'll get hiccups if you keep drinking like that."
"Hiccups do not kill or card me. Besides, everybody's helping Heartland rebuild, even the Lancers. I can't get to step out."
"Oh, then you better start praying you don't get muscle aches at night."
"At least I got someone to massage." Ryoga smirks, slamming the bottle back to Rio's hands as he gets up. "Let's go. Nice drink by the way."
Rio ticks her tongue in defeat. "Fine…" She quickly keeps up with him, not forgetting to kick him lightly in his butt as payback for that unmanly manner before.
Walking down the large and empty devastated road, Rio and Ryoga see the workers mainly consisted of late teenagers and few surviving adults returning to base either by walking or hitching a ride through a truck, they also see Yugo on his D-Wheel swiftly riding with a young girl securely lied down at the back collapsed from overworking.
"Man, the Synchro dimension surely has some interesting shit there." Ryoga cannot help but comment in awe, still surprised by the miracle of a motorbike combined with Duel Monster game. "Way better than the car our parents used to own."
"I have to admit: I want one of those too Ryoga." Rio too.
Ryoga turns to her. "You really want that?"
"Yep."
"Well, I think of two ways we can get it. One: we go to the Synchro dimension and buy one."
"We don't have enough money brother, and we cannot go to a different dimension without approval from commander Byron."
"Then two…"
"No…" Rio eyes at Ryoga, shaking her head.
"We steal from that pawn of Fusion." Ryoga smirks like an idiot.
"That's a big no Ryoga, and learn to speak a person's name correctly idiot."
"Don't worry, I'll say you want his D-Wheel so bad, he won't blame me for stealing his stick for you to run your fingernails on all over!"
"Asshole!" Rio tries to kick Ryoga again and this time he was prepared to dodge. "You always want to make me mad huh?"
Ryoga playfully rubs her head, smiling as he does so. Rio makes an angry face at him but does not protest any further. "It's a sport I always like Rio."
"The sport of high-risk Dueling or the sport of teasing girls?"
"Both."
"That's why you still don't have a girlfriend yet."
"Just unlucky Rio. Eighth grade, dumped, then just a few days ago, might have a thing with…" Ryoga stops, his mood sinks down instantly. "Selena…"
"Yeah…" Rio breathes. "Selena… that girl… I can't believe she did that to us…"
"And our best friend Shun is…" Ryoga's face hardens, the memories of seeing his dead body wrapped around the white cloth and buried underneath still haunts him every moment. "How's everyone holding up back there Rio? You stayed there in the last few days with them right?"
"Not all the time, but I tried. People are mourning the dead and the carded from that sudden ambush; the Lancers are mostly okay, though they won't admit how hard they took the news of course."
"You talked to Ruri?"
"I did, and she won't be feeling better anytime soon, that's a given."
"She has Yuto, she has us, she has her comrades, she will get through this, we all will. That's the only thing we can do."
Arriving at the gate, a Resistance spots the two and quickly calls them.
"Hey Ryoga, Rio." He calls.
"Hey Fuya." This same boy wanting to be a hero now has grown up so much that Ryoga barely recognizes anymore. "How's the day for you two?"
Rio speaks up. "So far so good. Yours?"
"Boring. And we have a new order from commander Byron, issued specifically to you."
The Kamishiro siblings turn to each other, wondering the intent.
"What order?"

"You sure the map is in this fricking bag?" Ryoga inquires the tied predator. "Cause all I saw here is a polaroid camera and some condom for your bitch of a girlfriend."
"It's in the form of a Duel Monster card you perverted Resistance asshole." Yuri swiftly counters; as per the deal the Lancers have quietly moved Selena away from the warehouse when she was still sleeping after Tsukikage confirmed there was no one spying the warehouse at night. "And don't you dare talk to Selena like that!"
"C'mon Ryoga, don't waste any more time for sex shit." Yuto demands, placing his hand on his head in annoyance.
"Alright alright…" Ryoga mumbles, harshly searching all panels of the bag and eventually he gets the thing Yuri describes. "Got it. Here you go Ruri."
Ruri takes the card from Ryoga and inserts it to her Duel Disk, a 3D holographic map of Academia materializes in front of her. The thirteen Lancers group in a circle around it.
"Alright… that's the entire view of Academia…" Yusho comments. "You're up Yuri."
"Zoom out first."
"What?" Yuya raises his eyebrows at his Fusion lookalike.
"Just zoom out."
"Fine…" He makes several inward motions with his hands, the holographic map sucks in as he does so. After that, they see many big machines around the fortress.
"What are those machines?" Masumi wonders.
"Anti Real Solid Vision emitters, two nautical miles away from Academia, radius. Any Real Solid Vision constructs approaching from outside Academia will be deactivated immediately upon contact with the barrier."
"Does this dimension at large know any of this?" Yugo raises the question.
"Of course." Yuri nods. "Akaba Leo introduced this to the dimension, there must be preventions of misuses."
"Yet he "misused" it everywhere… That costs a lot of money by the way."
"LDS bank account, student tuition, plus slush fund." Reiji speaks up. "Money can do anything Yugo."
"Yep, a lesson a Common like me knows too well…"
"So." Sora steps forward. "We cannot just use Dark Rebellion or Clear Wing to charge in from above, we have to use normal water transportation. Any other ideas?"
"Looks like there is no other way…" Jack concludes after much thinking. "We have to use speedboats, are there any in this harbor?"
"I checked last night." Tsukikage answers. "Several of them actually in the other warehouse."
"Still in good condition?"
"I hope so. This place was abandoned not too long ago."
"Then that's enough. I used to fix boats when I was a Common, I might be able to make them working again."
"But even then." Yuri cuts him off. "How are you gonna break through the security?"
"Security?"
"After Selena escaped, it's no doubt Akaba Leo has increased security at the ports nearby Academia. There's gotta be at least fifty to a hundred Juvenile officers and Academia personnel waiting for any of you and you only have thirteen, it's a losing fight before it's even started."
"Is there any way to draw them out?" Asuka suggests after a minute of brainstorming. "We draw them to a spot and keep them there while we sneak from behind."
"That might work." Gongenzaka slightly nods at that. "But then, how are we gonna do exactly that? We have to make a big and strong distraction to hopefully bring every Academia personnel in about three and a half kilometers in in enough time for all of us to sneak in."
"How about this?" Yusho says as he takes out several small devices looking like larger version of CPU chips covered in plastic. He places one of them on his Duel Disk and from it a holographic image of Yusho himself manifests.
"Goddamn dad…" Yuya says in awe.
"Language son." Yusho childs his son and to his brief shock, the holographic image does the same thing at the same time. "An invention of mine for magic tricks, can't believe it now finds a place in this battle. War…"
"Is it Real Solid Vision Yusho-san?" Reiji asks.
"Try to touch it."
Ruri steps close and does just that. "Yep. It is, Real Solid Vision."
"Can it be remote-controlled?" Yuto asks.
"Of course. I modified it to make the range ten kilometers."
"Then…" An idea pops in Ryoga's head. "How about this…?"

"No! I am not letting it happen!"
"But Rio…!"
"I said no, commander Byron! Don't separate us, find someone else!"
The expected result of this sudden news of course but no one dares to raise their voices, for they have no moral rights to. The moment Fuya reveals the inclusion of Kamishiro Ryoga to the Lancers, Rio quickly runs into the central base to find Byron and Reiji for this sudden news that nobody saw it coming.
"Don't you think we did not seek for someone else?" Reiji comes out from behind Byron, the slightly unkempt hair and the growing five o'clock shadow steal Ryoga's stunned attention for a brief moment.
"The ambush from Academia has taken out most of the strongest duelists in Heartland, other countries are busily rebuilding their own homelands, we could only rely on the surviving ones here." Reiji patiently explains. "The leaders of Resistance have agreed to send one best person to join us and Kamishiro Ryoga was their choice, not mine."
"What…?" Rio falters, switching between looking at Byron and Reiji in disbelief and Ryoga in fear. "You can't… you can't just… do that to me… and to him…!"
"I don't like this either Rio-san." Yuya comes up from behind the siblings.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean… back when Reiji announced the Lancers, I could not accept that he played chess with our lives to hand-pick the members. So I tried to punch him, then I dueled him, and lost, because I was not strong enough." He turns to Reiji.
"As of now, I still did not like it at all, but I understood that there was really no other choice, just like what is happening here." For a brief moment, Reiji's face loses the usual coldness from the maturity and understanding from the boy who used to hate him.
"But even then…" Rio whispers brokenly.
"I know, I don't expect these words will reach you, just like my Entertainment Dueling does not work all the time, and you will think Reiji called me here to try to explain to you, to convince you, but… yeah, this time is more justified than mine. We're losing morale after Shun died, we…" Yuya's voice cracks, painful of the memory. "We need someone who can be a strong wall for us to rely on…"
"Rio…" Ryoga steps closer to Rio, trying something to calm her down.
"Still…" Rio manages after a long silence, eyeing at Reiji and Byron. "I don't accept this at all, all of you did not give me a chance to think it through…"
Ryoga looks at everyone in the room, they all nod at him.
"Then how about now?"

"Are we at the spot Gongenzaka?" Ryoga asks the co-leader of the Lancers who is slowly putting the boat to a halt.
"Closet we can get without those emitters spotting us." Gongenzaka turns off the engine.
"You drive a ship really good Gongenzaka. Not bad for a first-timer."
"Thanks, now get the device ready."
Hearing that, Yusho turns on the radio. "We're in position. How about you?"
"Closing by. Will report when we arrive." Reiji's voice on the other end reports.
"Roger that."
Ryoga takes out one of those holographic projectors on his hand; running his thumb on it, he admires the quiet blue sea and focuses on the small view of the island hosting Academia ahead. The origin of the misery he, his sister, his family, his friends and his countrymen has suffered from for one whole year, the virus of overlord desire is staying right there under his eyesight.
Today is the day it must die forever.
"Hey." Yusho goes out to the deck. "You ready?"
"Yeah."
"Nervous?"
"Yeah… ever since Reiji chose me as replacement for Shun."
"He knows you're capable Ryoga, but unlike him or Kaito, you managed to hold on to your kinder side."
"The side that you taught us? Then… I guess I'm just lucky Yusho-sensei, I did not lose my sister, she's still alive back home."
"She must have cried a lot seeing you go then huh? I taught both of you myself, I know she might be tough on the outside but she is actually quite vulnerable."
"That's right teacher. I hope she does not do anything stupid like, begging commander Byron to bring her here or something."
"She won't, I'm sure of that."
"We're in position." Reiji reports through the radio.
Yusho takes it out of his pocket and answer. "Alright we're in. Is Yuto ready on your end?"
"Waiting for your call."
Ryoga nods and Yusho, putting the chip on ready.
"Operation start!"

"Magic Card, Aqua Jet activate!" A blue aura lights up around the frame of the black armored humanoid monster.
Chaos Numbers 101 Silent Honors Dark Knight ATK 2800 → 3800
"If so, Ragna Infinity's monster effect activates! Guidance to Purgatory!" Rio points at her monster. "By detaching an Overlay Unit from it, that 1000 change in Dark Knight's attack power will be dealt to you as damage!" It swings its scythe after slashing the crystal Chaos Overlay Unit and fires out curved energy waves.
"I win this duel now Ryoga!"
"Not gonna happen! Counter Trap, Xyz Block!" The only Chaos Overlay Unit hovering below Dark Knight flies to near Rio's monster.
Chaos Numbers 101 Silent Honors Dark Knight ORU 1 → 0
"It negates the activation of Ragna Infinity and destroy it!" The Overlay Unit explodes, taking out 103.
"But since it was destroyed while it still has Overlay Units and Ragna Zero is resting in the grave, I can bring it back to the field!" Rio keeps her head down even when her monster resurrects, knowing her defeat is imminent.
Looking quietly at her sister for a moment, Ryoga declares. "Come on! Dark Knight, attack Ragna Infinity!"
The lancer-like monster with surging red energy cladding in black armor throws up the lance and holds it in the reverse grip. It then throws the spear forward, hitting Rio's similarly red monster in the chest; the monster explodes upon contact.

Lying down on the ground after the impact of the explosion, Rio remains emotionless even as the monster disintegrates into yellow dust and its user slowly approaches her.
"So…" Ryoga speaks up in a low tone. "I won… As promise…" He lowers himself down. "I will go fight Academia."
Keeping her eyes hidden beneath her heavy bangs flowed down by the wind, Rio struggles not to let those hair strands wet with her tears. Noticing her turbulent mind, Ryoga silently makes a hand signal to the Lancers and everyone else in the back to leave him and his younger sister alone.
After it is just the two of them in the large yard, Ryoga relaxes with a deep breath and sits down next to her.
"Rio… you don't have to struggle now, it's just you and your brother at this moment…"
Ryoga picks up the dropped Ragna Infinity card near where Rio is sitting and gently puts it back to the Extra Deck slot of her Duel Disk.
"You know Rio, ever since we first knew we had a sibling in life, we promised to protect each other, we even took the blame when our parents inquired about our stupid pranks in the house, and school too. And then, the invasion happened… we lost our parents…"
Rio remains silent.
"I remembered both of us crying at the cards of mom and dad, fighting with our best to at least get them back in our hands, we both were no longer ourselves since then… but somehow, you did not sink down to the darkness I allowed myself to, you always made sure I was not too violent, you tried your hardest to make sure I did not become like Shun or Kaito."
He places a comforting hand on her shoulder. "And I will always be thankful for that Rio."
A small movement, as light as a feather, as quiet as the mouse, the one that Ryoga does not fail to notice from her.
"And I can confidently say this: I cannot make it this far if it wasn't for you. This uh… mission from Byron and Reiji… is not something I am proud of to participate… Hell, I don't even enjoy inflicting the same thing on Academia anymore, most of them are just youngsters brainwashed by Akaba Leo anyway. But it is something that must be done to ensure we all have freedom. Freedom does not reach out to us willingly Rio, we must earn it by our own hands, just like how you pulled me back."
Rio's lips shakily open, trying to form words.
"And… am I holding you back… from doing that?"
"Frankly, yes." Ryoga answers honestly, knowing this is the final push to convince her. "And I don't blame you, you're my beloved sister after all. But hey, you don't have to worry about me with them, I am strong enough on my own now. I know you're strong enough to protect me from my darkness back then, and I want you to strong enough to protect both of us now. Stay here and protect yourself and everyone else in here alright?"
A long silence before Rio eventually looks up at him, through the bangs Ryoga can tell Rio has failed to keep her tears from coming out successfully. She gently opens her arms and takes Ryoga in an embrace.
"Just make sure you come back here alive… idiot…"
"I will…"
Both siblings hug each other close, the tears silently running out from all four eyes without warning.

"We don't have much time left! Are we clear to push in?" Ryoga asks in a loud volume, struggling to remotely delay the large legion of Academia duelists.
Watching the last legion of boats moving away from his eyesight, Yusho turns to the radio. "Okay we're clear, move in!"
"Copy that!" Reiji says. "Both boats, go!"
Gongenzaka and Asuka start the engine and quickly drive the boats as fast as they can, all passengers hide in the cockpit and grab on something to keep themselves steady against the crushing waves.
"Dammit, it's strong!" Gongenzaka grunts his teeth.
"Keep it tight big boy! We're still not there yet!"
A short time later, Ryoga eventually loses the long-distance duel. He turns off his Duel Disk.
"I'm lost Yusho-san, but now those Real Solid Vision ropes from those chips will hopefully tie them up like you said. How far are we from Academia now?"
"Just one kilometer now! Reiji, what's your status?"
"Yuto also loses but things are still going strong, we're not too far away from Academia now-what?"
"What?" Yusho quickly realizes the problem. Two strange boat approaching the Lancers from Academia docks.
"Shit! Academia!"
"Dammit! Reiji, watch out, two Academia boats on the way!"
"We got it!"
Yusho takes out binoculars and aims it at Academia responders.
"Three Obelisk Force on each boat, and… Dennis Macfield…"
"Dennis?" Gongenzaka exclaims.
"The asshole who kick-started the invasion on our home world?!" Ryoga quickly equips his Deck and Duel Disk ready.
"Not now Ryoga, our priority is accessing Academia, only fight as the last resort. And who is the guy on the other boat besides Gloria Tyler?"
"What Yusho-san?" Reiji asks.
"There is someone I don't know…"
"Wait… is that…?" Reiji realizes. "Is that… Kachidoki Isao?"
"Isao?!" Yuto remembers the name.
"You know him?" Asuka asks.
"Yeah… back when I was stuck in Yuya, he dueled this guy right after. He was pretty violent, then things got blacked out and… next thing was he beat him in quite a brutal way."
"So you saying Academia hired this guy to hunt Yuya?" Sora speaks up.
"Most likely." Reiji speaks calmly. "Contact is imminent. Yuto, Sora, you two fight them with me, Asuka, you control the boat!"
"Got it!"
"Gongenzaka." Yusho orders. "I'll take control. You and Ryoga go up and fight them.
"Okay." Gongenzaka nods, he then goes up and prepares himself.
"Ready?"
"Yeah."
Yusho yells to the radio. "Split up!" Immediately after, Asuka and the aged Entertainment Duelist steer the boats away from each other and increase speed, trying to shake off one Academia boat tailing right behind. Being an old speedboat though, it is only a matter of time before the opposing boat keeps up.
"Yo Gongenzaka-kun! Long time no see right?" Dennis fakes cheerfulness at him.
"Shut up Dennis! Move out of the way now!"
"Sorry we can't, we won't allow you to go in further. Besides, I got unfinished business with my teacher down there."
"Dennis!" Ryoga yells at him, arming his Duel Disk ready. "Move the hell out, or you want a harsher way?"
Dennis smile takes a sinister turn. "We're actually looking forward to it too. A good duel is something I always love don't you think?" Dennis turns to the three Obelisk Force grunts who nods back with clear approval.
"How are we gonna do with this Dennis-sama?" One of them asks.
"That Ryoga over there really hates me so bad and he is really strong so I'll take on him alone. All of you take care of my Steadfast buddy over here, then I'll deal with Sakaki Yusho down the boat we will all enjoy the new world in victory."
"Roger that."
Dennis runs toward the front of the boat and makes a big jump to the Lancers'.
"What?" Gongenzaka grasps in surprise.
"Deal with Obelisk Force Gongenzaka, can't let them control this boat! I'll take care of that asshole."
"Okay!" With that, Gongenzaka activates his Duel Disk, ready to fight one-on-three.

Facing Dennis with pure hatred, Ryoga stares intensely at the son of a bitch in front of him ahead before swinging his left arm, activating his Duel Disk.
"Oh, no talking buddy? Why in such a hurry?"
"Not for you Dennis! Now duel or I will kick you to the bottom of the sea!"
"Alright alright, hot-headed idiot… At least a duel against a student of Sakaki Yusho is okay for me…"
"DUEL!" The participants declare.

"Who will take the first turn?" Dennis asks, smiling.
"How about a better way?" Ryoga clicks a button, three images of hand signs of rock, paper and scissors appear on the screen of both Duel Disk. He places his left hand in front of him with the screen facing him and hides his right hand close to it.
"Fine by me." Dennis does the same thing. "Three, two, one!"
The images of the chosen pictures manifests. For Dennis, it is rock and for Ryoga…
It is paper.
Ryoga makes a fist of victory. "Yes, I take the first turn."
"Suits me either way."
"From my hand, Saber Shark summon!"

"With a WATER monster on the field, I can special summon Abyss Shark."

"Monster effect activates!" Abyss Shark glows up a blue aura. "I can add Silent Angler to my hand, and with its own effects, special summon!"

"3 monsters with different levels…" Dennis notes to himself. "Not gonna Xyz Summon? You cannot attack me with those sharks on your first turn anyway…?"
"With Abyss Shark's effect, I can treat it as a Level 4 monster for the summon of this monster." Ryoga points his hand downwards, the three monsters turn into purple energy and flies down to the opened Overlay Network.
"Xyz Shōkan!" A beam of light shoots up from the hole, from it a monster emerges.
"Rank 4! Marine Biting Dragon Shark Drake!"

"Appears already, Shark Drake?" Dennis notes to himself.
"I set down a card." A holographic image of the backside of a card materializes and quickly disappears. "Turn end."
A big explosion occurs behind Ryoga, he quickly turns around and sees Gongenzaka lying down in pain.

"I'm fine Ryoga, focus on Dennis!"
Watching the scene going on, Dennis cannot help but reminiscence a bit about his old times with them, still keeping his face neutral.
"What's up? Not dueling asshole?" Ryoga's angry voice quickly snaps him back to reality. "Or should I make you the latest meal for Shark Drake?"
"Always this angry huh Ryoga?" Dennis mocks. "Shun, Kaito, and then you, all three of you have the same thing with anger issues."
"Such irrelevant matter you're spitting out from your mouth Dennis, is that what a magician always does?" Ryoga fires back. "You know, I heard a thing or two about one of Sakaki Yusho's students being so flashy in his performances that sometimes the fans feel disconnected."
Trying not to feel affected, Dennis slightly raises his left eyebrow. "Rumors are just rumors, asshole… Boku no turn, draw!"
"I, using the Scale 3 Entermage Mirror Conductor and Scale 5 Entermate Higurumi, Pendulum Scale setting!" The word "PENDULUM" flashes up on the blade of Dennis' Duel Disk as he places the two cards at the rightmost and leftmost side of it. After that, two pillars where the two Pendulum monsters rise up and a hole between them appear.
"With this, I can summon Level 4 monsters. Pendulum Shōkan!" Two energy beams shoots down from the portal and hits the surface of the boat.
"Entermage Damage Juggler! And Entermage Hat Tricker!"

"Show must go on! Artisan of the air, swing across the stage with grace! Xyz Shōkan! Appear now! Rank 4! Entermage Trapeze Magician!"

"That asshole's signature monster…" Ryoga mutters as the acrobat does its usual swing. "But it only has 2500 ATK, three hundred less than my Shark Drake!"
"That's when Mirror Conductor comes into play." Dennis points at the floating Pendulum monster on the left, it aims its mirror at the Xyz monster and shines a big beam of light at it; then it spins around. "Once per turn, a Special Summoned monster on the field will have its ATK and DEF changed to the same lower amount in this turn."
Ryoga looks up. "That means Shark Drake's ATK will…"
"Right. It becomes the same 2100 DEF."

"Battle!" Trapeze Magician grabs the bar and makes a 360 swing, aiming its left foot at the sea dragon. "Trapeze Magician, attack Shark Drake!"
"As if I let you! Trap Card, Poseidon Wave!"
"What?!"
"This card will negate this attack!" A barrier quickly intercepts the kick. "Then for each Fish, Sea Dragon and Water monster I control, you will take 800 damage." The barrier morphs into a beam of energy that quickly shoots forward at Dennis.
"I see… but with my buddy Trapeze Magician's effect, any damage lower than its ATK will be nullified." Trapeze quickly stands between Dennis and the beam and throws something at it, the beam flies upward and explodes into fireworks.
"I set down one card, turn end. At this moment, Shark Drake will gain its normal ATK back."

"Ore no turn, draw!" Ryoga points at Dennis' monster.
"Shark Drake, attack Trapeze Magician! Depth Bite!" A blue stream of watery energy fires out of the monster's mouth, engulfing the aerobatic performer before it explodes. Dennis covers himself from the aftermath with his right arm.

"At this moment, Trapeze Magician's monster effect activates!" The remains of Trapeze Magician glow up and cluster together into a ball of light. "I can special summon Stilts Shooter from my Deck!" A humanoid monster with orange cape wielding two staffs appears.

"Also, Higurumi's Pendulum effect will bring itself to the field!" A fiery monster blowing a paper horn comfortably sitting in an upside down wizard hat flies out of the Pendulum Zone.

"Hmm…" Dennis smirks. "Thanks to your attack, I can bring out these two buddies."
"But then, since Shark Drake has destroyed your monster by battle, it can also activate its effect too." Ryoga counters.
"Hmm…?"
"By detaching an Overlay Unit…" Shark Drake eats one of those three purple energy orbs circling around it, a portal then opens on the ground near Dennis. "I can bring back the destroyed Trapeze Magician on the field, but it will lose 1000 ATK and Shark Drake can attack again this turn!" Dennis's ace monster slowly forms and rises up from the darkness.
Dennis curls up his lips. "I see… that is indeed a pretty troublesome effect, but it would not go that easy Ryoga! Trap activate!"
"Trap?!"
"Entermage Reborn! I tribute Stilts Shooter!" The monster disintegrates. "I can bring back Trapeze Magician before Shark Drake can affect it!"
"Shit!" Ryoga grits his teeth, helplessly watching the annoying monster return to the field in one piece.
"Entermage Reborn will become an Overlay Unit for Trapeze Magician, and due to its other effect, both of us will take 1000 damage, but that is not all!"
"Not all…?" Ryoga growls.
"If this effect is activated, I can banish Stilts Shooter from the graveyard so that you will take another 2000 damage!"
"What the hell?!" Two energy balls quickly explodes at the ground near Ryoga, sending him flying to the banister behind. Had it not been for it, he would have been sent to the stairs below with the danger of having his neck broken.

"Thanks to Trapeze Magician…" Dennis says in a monotone, ignoring his downed opponent. "I take no damage from Entermage Reborn's effect."
"Ryoga! You okay Ryoga?" Gongenzaka quickly notices what happened.
"I'm… good… Gongenzaka… remember what we are doing…" Ryoga steadily gets back up like a true Resistance soldier. "Those drawn assholes are gonna come here soon, the ropes won't hold for long. We must trust each other!"
"Okay…"
"Focus on your duel Gongenzaka, I'll help you as soon as I finish this asshole."
"Help?" Dennis smirks. "You can't even help yourself winning this duel."
"Shut… up!" Ryoga grunts as he goes back to the position. "Even if I cannot beat you now, I will next turn! Quick-Play Magic, Cyclone!"
"What?"
"I destroy that annoying Mirror Conductor!" A small hurricane sweeps through the blue Pendulum pillar, crashing the frowning mirror into pieces. "Then I set down one card, turn end."
"Boku no turn, draw!" His eyes perk up at the sight of the card. "Here it is…"
He puts the card to his hand and faces the Resistance duelist. "Even if you destroyed Mirror Conductor, I will still end this duel on this turn Ryoga!"
"From the graveyard, I banish Damage Juggler to activate its effects! With that, I can add an "Entermage" monster from my Deck to my hand. I will choose Trick Clown."
"Trap Card activate!" Ryoga suddenly announces after Dennis finishes adding the card, catching the latter by surprise. "Add Disruptor!"
"Add Disruptor?!"
"When you add cards from your Deck to your hand by a card effect, I can randomly destroy one of them." Trick Clown glows up in purple, forcing Dennis to send it to the graveyard slot of his Duel Disk. "And if it is a monster, I can inflict damage to you equal to its combined ATK and DEF!"
"What?!"
"Trick Clown's total ATK and DEF is 2800, higher than what Trapeze Magician can negate, therefore you cannot avoid this effect damage!" A ring of light forms around Dennis and fires its energy upwards, trapping Dennis yelling in pain inside.

"Urgh…" Dennis grunts, struggling to stand up. "That's one hell of a payback… Ryoga! But this duel is still not over yet!"
Gritting his teeth in pain from punching his stomach to numb down the pain, Dennis continues. "Since Add Disruptor destroys Trick Clown, it is sent into the graveyard, which is when it will activate its effects! It special summons itself without its ATK and DEF, then I take 1000 effect damage."
"What?!" Ryoga exclaims as he sees it coming to the field.

"Xyz Treasure?!" Ryoga grasps at the sight of the card that should only be popular with Heartland residents.
"Uh, you should know that sometimes we do not card your people right away, gotta take time to get good cards first."
"You bastard…!" He grits his teeth and clenches his right fist in anger, last thing he needed is being reminded of the losses.
"For each Xyz monster on the field, I can draw one card." Dennis draws two cards from his Deck, then he reaches for the other card on his hand.
"And now Magic card Fusion activate!" Ryoga's eyes widen in rage, watching the dreaded spiral manifesting behind Dennis.
"I use Entermage Trick Clown and Higurumi to fuse!" The spiral absorbs the two monsters in. "Clown that lights up the smiles of the spectators! Combine with the burning fire of passion and become a new witch that spurs the sky!"
"Yūgō Shōkan!"
"Appear now Level 7! Entermage Trapeze Force Witch!"

"I've never seen this monster before…" Ryoga notes to himself while glancing at his 2800 ATK Shark Drake. "Must be a reason why that bastard summoned it…"
"Finally, you met your partner Force Witch… next up, I activate Trapeze Magician's monster effect!" The only Overlay Unit orbiting the monster disintegrates. "With that, Trapeze Force Witch can attack twice this turn. And now, Trapeze Magician, attack Shark Drake now!" The female monster laughs and then grabs the handle of the trapeze ropes, getting ready for the performance.
"What? Shark Drake has higher attack power than Trapeze?!"
"Force Witch's monster effect activates! In this battle, it can make your monster lose 600 ATK!" Energy stars fly out of Force Witch's abdomen and hit Shark Drake repeatedly.
"What did you say?!"

The dropkick cracks the head of Shark Drake to pieces along with its entire brown body right after.

"Mind your own battle Gongenzaka! I won't lose here!"

"At this moment!" Ryoga shows a card from his hand as soon as Force Witch preps up. "Battle-Up Shark's monster effect activates!"
"What?!" Dennis grasps as Ryoga slams the card down to the blade of his Duel Disk.
"By targeting the Level 5 Abyss Shark from my grave, I Special Summon it and this card!" An armored shark shows up along with Abyss Shark

"Overlay!" The light pillar shoots up to the sky, forcing Dennis to cover his own eyes.
"Proud warrior of the sea, come up to the surface and inherit the undying rage of the fallen! Xyz Shōkan!"
"Appear now, Rank 5! Valiant Shark Lancer!" A humanoid monster with the lower body resembling a seahorse flies up to the field. The multiple energy wings behind it, coupling with the black armor and a big lance on its left hand speak volumes to its awesome might it proudly gives off.

"What the…" Dennis mumbles. "Can't believe you bring out an Xyz monster during this moment… but even then, Force Witch's effect will make it lose attack power!"
"Monster summoned by this effect of Battle-Up Shark this turn cannot be destroyed by battle and none of your effects can affect it this turn also!"
"What?!" Staring angrily at the new Xyz monster, Dennis silently breathes out. "Force Witch, stop your attack…" The monster obeys and returns besides Trapeze Magician.
"Don't forget Trapeze Magician's effect Dennis!" Ryoga points at the monster. "At the end of the Battle Phase of the turn Trapeze Magician applies the effect, Force Witch will be destroyed." The monster glows up in imminent destruction.
"So sad for that Ryoga." Dennis smiles.
"What do you mean?!"
"With Force Witch's own effect, it cannot be destroyed by any card effects." Force Witch stops glowing up.
"Dammit…" Ryoga growls. "Next turn Force Witch can reduce the ATK of my Shark Lancer…!"
"Also one more thing!" Dennis cuts Ryoga off. "With Force Witch on the field, you cannot attack it since I control another Entermage monster on the field." Dennis points at Trapeze Magician to prove his point. "And you cannot destroy or target all Entermage monsters with card effects."
"The hell?!" Ryoga grasps. "So with Force Witch… you created a target, destruction and attack lock…!"
"That's right, no matter how hard you try on your turn, you won't be able to beat through this lock, Kamishiro Ryoga." Dennis taunts. "I set down a card and end my turn here."
Ignoring Dennis' taunts, Ryoga places his finger on the top of his Deck.
"Ore… Ore no turn!"
Glancing at the card, Ryoga quickly activates it. "Magic Card, Pot of Greed and Avarice activate! I banish the top ten cards of my Deck." Ten cards on Ryoga's Deck light up in yellow, Ryoga takes them out and puts it in his pocket. "To draw two cards."
"So that's that huh?" Dennis speaks. "You sacrificed one fourths of your Deck to get a chance to reverse things around with those two cards?"
"As long as I have a card in my hand, I will fight with the last of it."
Ryoga firmly yet shakily puts his fingers on his Deck again. "That previous draw was lucky… but if this one isn't… I will lose…!"
Gripping his thumb fingernail to the space between the second top and third top of his Deck, Ryoga closes his eyes. "Rio… give me strength… Don't forget our promise…" Even Dennis closes his mouth shut and focuses his attention on the draw stance of his opponent.
"Draw!"
Quietly moving his drawn cards to his eyesight, a feeling of hope rises up within him. "They're here…"
"I normal summon Lantern Shark!"

"Right! Lantern Shark can treat itself as a Level 5 monster for an Xyz Summon of a WATER monster!" Lantern and Panther turn into purple energy and join in the opened Overlay Network above.
"Xyz Shōkan! Appear now, Rank 5! Roaring Waterfall Deity Abyss Splash!"

Dennis stares at the big monster in awe. "Another Rank 5 monster… but it only has 2400 ATK! And don't forget Force Witch over here!"
"Abyss Splash's monster effect!" An Overlay Unit flies into the lance and disintegrates. "Until the end of this turn, its ATK is doubled and you only take half of the battle damage from this card."

"ATK 4800?!"
"Even if you created a strong lock like that, it does nothing to prevent battle destruction!" Dennis grits his teeth in dismay.
"Battle! Abyss Splash, attack Trapeze Magician! Final Fall!" The large monster raises its lance up, charging the orb on top of it with energy. It then aims the lance down at the male monster and zaps it.
"Force Witch's monster effect! Entermage Drain!"

"But even with that, your Trapeze Magician will still be gone and you will only have 50 LP left!" Dennis darts his eyes away from the sight of the destruction of his favourite monster.

"Trapeze Magician…" Dennis reluctantly places his beloved monster to the graveyard slot.
"With this, your attack lock is gone." Ryoga reminds him.
"Then what Ryoga?" Dennis sneers. "I still have 50 LP left and you cannot use your Shark Lancer to attack Force Witch since my monster will reduce yours' attack power anyway.
"That's when this card will come to play!" Ryoga quickly slides it in his Duel Disk. "Quick-Play Magic activate!"
"What?!"
"Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos!"
"Quick-Play Rank-Up you said?!"
"I target Abyss Splash with it…" The monster turns into energy and flies into the Overlay Network. "Chaos Xyz Change!" The network explodes.
"Pierce through the whirlpool of Chaos, and now, surface from the depths to this land! Appear now, Rank 6! God of Roaring Cascades Abyss Supra!"

Ryoga wastes no time on letting Dennis watch the summoned monster in awe. "Abyss Supra, attack Trapeze Force Witch now!"

"But then, Abyss Supra's effect activates!" A metal Overlay Unit turns into reddish dust and flies up to the lance. "During damage calculation, my attacking monster can gain ATK equal to your battling monster!"
"What?!"

"Judgement Fall!"
"Not that close Ryoga!" Dennis inserts a card from his hand to his Duel Disk. "Trap Card, Battle Support activate!"
"Trap Card activation from your hand?!" Ryoga exclaims.
"By releasing Froce Witch." The remaining monster on Dennis' field disintegrates. "I gain LP equal to its ATK."

"Since I only controlled Force Witch when Abyss Supra attacked and you have more monsters than me, I can activate that trap form my hand."
"So what? Abyss Supra will now instead make a direct attack anyway?!"
"The attack is also negated!" The energy stream breaks like a broken crystal.
"Shit!"
"Also, during the End Phase, I can bring back Force Witch to the field."
"But now your field is empty Dennis, and don't forget Shark Lancer has 2500 ATK, more than the amount of LP you are having now!"
Pointing at Shark Lancer, Ryoga yells. "Take the rage of the people you carded! Valiant Shark Lancer!" He points his finger at Dennis.
"Direct attack!"
"I'm not giving up that easy Ryoga!" Dennis slams down the last card in his hand.
"What?!"
"During this direct attack, I special summon Entermage String Figure from my hand in Attack Position and force your monster to attack it!"

"ATK 0?"
"But with its effects, it won't be destroyed by battle and I won't take any battle damage from this battle." The lancer has no choice but to lung itself forward and prepare to pierce the small monster in vain.
To Dennis' shock, Ryoga's lips curl into a smile.
"What a pity Dennis."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"The target lock you made on your last turn prevented Shark Lancer from unleashing its true effects."
"What?!"
"And with Force Witch gone, Shark Lancer can finally do it! Shark Lancer's monster effect activates!" It slashes an Overlay Unit and holds the lance with both hands, lunging at String Figure.
"It targets a monster you control to destroy it!"
"No way!" Dennis hopelessly yells as Shark Lancer slams the lance to the ground, separating his last monster into two equal pieces.
"This effect targets, hence I could not use it while you still had Force Witch, and since I have another WATER Xyz monster in the form of Abyss Supra, that effect can be activated during your turn as well." Ryoga explains to the shocked Dennis who realized his imminent defeat.
Glancing at Gongenzaka who is making the finishing attack at the Obelisk Force, Ryoga points towards Dennis. "This is the end for sure now! Shark Lancer, direct attack!" Dennis quietly accepts his loss by closing his eyes as the energy from the lance hits him, sending him flying to the water below…

…Only for him to realize his clothes were still very dry and clean.
"…Huh… what…?"
Looking back, Dennis realizes Shark Lancer has somehow appeared below him and caught him by its two hands, then it flings him up to the front of the boat. The former Entertainment Duelist is too shocked to feel the disintegrating dust of the monster that saved him from one hell of a forced salt water bath and possible internal organs damage.
"Ryoga!" Gongenzaka calls him.
"Gongenzaka… And Yusho-san?!"
"Yeah, Reiji's team is also getting good news over there."
Looking at the other ship from afar, Ryoga can confirm the positive outcome happened. He sighs in relief and all three turns to the war starter.
Slowly getting up from the impact, Dennis sees Gongenzaka has also won his Duel against three Obelisk Force grunts as he no longer sees his teammates around and somehow Sakaki Yusho, his former teacher, has come along as well.
"Shit…" Dennis eyes at the three Lancers in defeat. "I'm lost again and surrendered…"
"And this time Dennis." Yusho speaks up. "There is no crowd to cheer on, even for the winner, or the loser. It is only the battlefield, just like when you scorched the Xyz dimension to ashes."
"I know…" Dennis says distantly. "I'm not a good student under your wing after all… Which student would betray a teacher's ideal beliefs anyway? But I have to admit Yusho-sensei…" His face forms into a bitter smile.
"Fighting along with your son, with Gon-chan and the other Lancers was really fun… I really wished that kind of… fabricated friendship would last more…" Gongenzaka slightly narrows his eyes in sadness at those words.
"What do we do with him now teacher?" Ryoga asks Yusho, arming his Duel Disk. "Yuri has told us everything we needed, we don't need him in our way anymore."
"Not." Yusho says sternly. "On my watch."
Dennis suddenly whispers in a broken tone. "Yu… Yuri…?"
"What? Yuri?" Gongenzaka looks at Dennis. "You know him?"
"We sometimes talk to each other… deep stuffs… Is he okay?"
"He's fine." Gongenaka confirms. "Not sure about his mind though, getting burned alive and resurrected somehow will never be good for an adolescent."
"Well…" Dennis sighs in relief. "That's good to know…"
"What do you mean?"
"I was not informed when Professor killed him, probably because he knew we were kinda close…" His voice cracks a bit at the end. "But I know why he did it… and it links to ARC Area Project too…"
"What?" Gongenzaka grasped. "Tell us Dennis!"
Yusho helps Dennis up and shakes his shoulders. "You know why he tried to kill Yuri? What else is Akaba Leo hiding about ARC Area Project?"
"Yusho-san watch out!" Reiji yells from the radio, and before everyone can do anything a boat suddenly drives close to the one they are standing and rams at it, causing it to turn over. Everyone gets flown down to the sea below.
Quickly getting to the surface, all three Lancers realize who had done it: Gloria Tyler and Isao.
"Where's Dennis?!" Gongenzaka frantically looks around.
"Here." Gloria answers by waving a card with the image of Dennis.
"Dennis…?!" Yusho stutters, his eyes frozen in shock.
Glancing at the other boat of Lancers, Gloria ticks her tongue. "They're coming Isao, retreat!"
"Hey stop!" Ryoga tries to swim ahead to stop the retreating boat somehow.
"Quit it Ryoga!" The other boat drives close. Reiji, Asuka, Sora and Yuto quickly extend their hands to grab the three floating Lancers up. Reiji quickly goes down to the control room to drive the boat.
"Everyone okay?" Sora asks.
"Yeah we're good!" Yuto and Ryoga share a comrade hug.
"We beat the Obelisk Force but we lost Isao and Tyler since they forced a draw." Asuka speaks up. "Where's Dennis?"
Ryoga reports. "I won but Gloria carded him before we could get him to spill the beans about ARC Area Project."
"Bugger…" Asuka sighs. "At least we bought the others enough time."
"All right." Reiji speaks through the radio. "We're very near Academia now. As soon as I dock this boat, everyone will charge in quickly, clear?"
"Clear!"

Returning to base, Isao and Gloria quickly run back inside.
"Son of a bitch!" Gloria curses, holding her stomach in pain. "Those Lancers!"
"Gloria, Isao." Akaba Leo contact them.
"Yes Professor."
"Looks like we were unable to stop them from advancing, but at least we got an idea about how they will attack this place now. Based on the camera feed, there were only seven Lancers on those two boats, which means other five are somewhere else."
"Other five…" Gloria realizes. "You mean the two prisoners?!"
"Yes. But you are wounded right now, so take a rest."
"Rest? But…"
"Isao will handle the intruders. If they want to rescue Yuzu and Rin, they will send Yugo and…"
"Sakaki Yuya." Isao answers quietly.
"Right. That's your chance to extract your vengeance. Besides…"
"Phase two is still in effect…"

When your opponent declares a direct attack: You can target 1 Level 3, 4 or 5 WATER monster in your GY; Special Summon both this card from your hand and that target, but negate the target's effects, and if you do, this card's Level becomes the same as the targeted monster's, then, immediately after this effect resolves, Xyz Summon 1 WATER Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck. The monster Special Summoned by this effect of "Battle-Up Shark" cannot activate its effects the turn it is Xyz Summoned this way, but is unaffected by your opponent's card effects this turn, also it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects this turn. You can only use this effect of "Battle-Up Shark" once per turn.

If a monster you control would be destroyed by battle: You can Tribute that monster; negate the attack, then gain LP equal to its ATK. At the End Phase, Special Summon the monster Tributed by this card's effect to your field. If you only control 1 monster and they control more monsters than you do, you can activate this card from your hand. You can only activate 1 "Battle Support" per turn.
