The Nublar Six: Before they knew
Hi! Welcome to the fifth chapter of this story. Nothing really important to say, so enjoy the reading!
The island's security is compromised. The campers already survived several close calls, but are they ready for what's about to come? Also, gyrospheres are faster here.
Chapter 05: The run
The amber stone rolled over the floor. Everyone looked at it, then back at Sammy.
"What have you—"
"Did you really—"
"Sammy, explain why that is in your bag," Yasmina said.
Sammy sighed and sat on the side of the couch, her head in her hands. She looked back up at her friends.
"Yes… I, took that with me from the lab. With some, other things…" Sammy explained in a sad tone.
Brooklyn took the bag and looked in it. She found tube samples, more stones, and…
"You took an egg?!" Brooklyn said taking it out of the bag.
"I did! But I was forced to!" Sammy said with her first tears appearing. The rest went quiet.
"I got forced by a-a rival of Masrani Global, Mantah Corp, to bring them e-everything I could from this trip. I couldn't refuse! Or they w-would take away our r-ranch!"
Sammy started sobbing. Everyone softened up and felt bad for her. They understood. Bumpy rubbed Sammy's leg. Kenji looked over to Yasmina while quickly tilting his head to Sammy.
Go on Yaz! You can fix it and you know it! Kenji thought.
Why is he looking at me? You want me to console her? Yasmina thought. The two stared at each other intensively, trying to send their thoughts to one another.
Just do it Yaz!
Look, I find it horrible what situation she's in, but I'm the worst at consoling people!
Move it for once!
No, I'm too awkward!
No you're not!
Yes!
Yaz! Do it!
No!
Yaz…
After a long exchange of fierce eye and head movements, Yasmina sighed. The rest were still looking at the crying Sammy.
Yasmina sat next to her friend. Kenji nodded is head, telling her to go on.
"It-it's okay Sam. W-we'll find a solution. We're all, here for you…" Yasmina said softly.
Sammy looked up while wiping a tear off her cheek.
"Y-you're saying that, to p-please me? You d-don't even want to b-be friends…"
Yasmina felt shocked. She looked at Kenji for what to do, but he was also confused.
"N-no, Sammy…" Yasmina said putting her arm around her, "I, changed my mind. I… broke the shell…"
Sammy stared at her friend, and smiled a bit. They stood up and Sammy hugged Yasmina. The rest joined in.
Brooklyn who held the egg had put it on the table. While the group was hugging, it started to hatch.
"Guys look! The egg!" Darius noticed from his hug-position.
Everyone gathered around the table and looked attentively at the moving egg.
The baby inside pushed a part of the shell with his little paw, revealing his claws. More shell fragments started to fall around the hole it had created.
Rifts appeared around the egg, and it ultimately burst completely. A small, grey creature stood up and looked at the teens. All were shocked.
"Is t-that a—"
"A velociraptor…" Darius mumbled.
The animal looked around him, then back to the teens. It released a couple of quick sounds at them.
"Is it, safe to approach?" Ben whispered.
The dino was looking at Sammy, and repeated the sounds.
"I think it believes you are the mother Sammy. Like, ducks…" Darius explained.
Sammy slowly approached the table and reached out to the little raptor. It ran towards her hand and rubbed his head against it.
"Hey you little thing… You're cute for a killing machine," Sammy said.
Yasmina also tried to approach the dino baby with her hand, but the raptor hid behind Sammy's hand instead.
"It's okay, she's a friend. She also just broke out of her shell," Sammy told the animal. Yasmina rolled her eyes comically.
After it, slowly but surely, Yasmina could touch the raptor without losing any fingers. The rest tried too and were emotional of the little thing being there.
"Ehm, now. What do we do with her?" Ben asked.
"It's a 'he' Ben, and we'll just bring it with us," Sammy explained. The animal jumped off the table.
"B-but it might harm Bumpy! It's a predator after all!"
From behind the couch, the raptor and ankylosaurs could be heard. Everyone looked over and saw the two young animals communicating. They looked playful and soon started chasing each other in turn. Sammy smiled at Ben.
"It's amazing to see, really!" Darius exclaimed.
"How will you name him? It, kinda became a habit around here," Brooklyn asked.
"Maybe keep it in the style of Owen's raptors?" Kenji proposed.
Sammy was thinking and snapped her fingers. "Good idea! It's gonna be, Tango!"
At that moment, Tango bounced on Sammy's shoulder with Bumpy at her feet. The two animals were playing. Everyone had to laugh.
Out of a sudden, a loud voice from outside caught everyone's attention. The six rushed outside to look where it came from.
"Attention visitors of Jurassic World, due to technical difficulties we are forced to close the attractions. Please head to the southern docks for evacuation. Boats are leaving in 5 hours."
"Loudspeakers?" Yasmina asked, being confused.
"They said they're evacuating to the south… We must get there in time!" Darius explained.
"We don't even know what way to go, how will we make our way there?" Brooklyn replied.
"This might help you. I found it in one of the drawers at the bar," Ben said, handing over a paper.
"A map! This might give us a chance! Where are the docks?" Everyone got around the table to look.
"I see them there, but look how far it is!"
"And we don't even know where we are on that map!" Brooklyn noticed.
"Actually the camp is here, see that icon?" Kenji pointed at it. Brooklyn crossed her arms.
"That is 50 kilometres from the docks! We won't make it by foot," Darius replied.
"Does it mean we'll be stuck here?" Sammy asked.
The rest looked at her with sadness. Tango rubbed himself against her foot.
Kenji stayed by the table and the map. He looked at it, and a smile reappeared on his face.
"Guys I might have an idea to make it on time!" He announced.
"We are so desperate that we have to rely on Kenji's ideas, go on I guess…" Brooklyn told.
"We are here right? Well look a bit to the east or the map. See it?"
Everyone looked. A little icon with a ball was on it.
"It's the gyrosphere hangar. Those are like moving balls used to see the dinos in the fields up close. Those things are fast enough to bring us to the docks on time."
"Kenji that's amazing!" Darius exclaimed.
"Let's hope there are enough gyrospheres for us all…" Yasmina added.
"Oh don't worry, we only need three. It has two seats per ball." Kenji explained. Yasmina gulped.
"We have no time to lose. Let's leave now," Darius told the rest.
The campers, Bumpy and Tango got in the elevator, and left the safety of the treehouse.
After cautiously walking and going in the right direction, the campers arrived to an open place in the jungle with a large building, the gyrosphere hangar.
"The door is still unlocked, let's enter!" Darius said pushing the door on the side of the building.
"So hurried they didn't close it. Good for us," Kenji added.
But it was still dark inside. The hangar was a large room with boxes all around, a gyrosphere repair bench, and the round vehicles stored in rows. The group approached them.
"We'll take these."
"But how do we know if they're recharged?" Sammy asked.
"They are!" Brooklyn replied from a computer station. "I checked it, fully charged!"
Brooklyn also opened the large hangar doors.
Darius unlocked the first one and took a seat. Now how does this work…
"Gosh, where is Bumpy? Bumpy!" Ben said.
"And Tango? Where are you?" Sammy yelled. The two searched around the space.
"So you're gonna sit with her?" Kenji asked, sneaking up on Yasmina who was waiting near another gyrosphere.
"Ehh, I wouldn't be comfortable with those animals in that hamster ball…" Kenji smiled and rolled his eyes.
Ben was looking near a pile of crates. Some noise came from behind them, and suddenly Bumpy and Tango jumped over and hid behind Ben.
"What is—" Ben looked back at the crates. His eyes widened. The rest saw it too.
"Ben!"
A dilophosaurus peaked his head over the crates. Tango growled at it. The dilo roared and stretched its frills. Ben dodged it just on time and started running with the pets.
"Get here quickly!" Brooklyn shouted who entered the gyrosphere of Darius. He closed the doors and activated the vehicle.
Kenji and Yasmina got in another one out of panic.
"Looks like you're lucky," Kenji told.
"Not sure if… How do you close these doors?" Yasmina replied.
Kenji was searching the right button, or Bumpy and Tango had already entered the vehicle, getting on Yaz.
Not sure at all… She thought sighing.
Sammy took place in a third gyrosphere and opened it up for Ben who was still running from the dilo.
"Quick get in!" She shouted.
Ben tried his best but stumbled over tools and fell. He saw the dilo come closer, spreading his frills.
It was about to spit, but Darius and Brooklyn rammed full speed against the dino. Ben got up quickly and ran to Sammy. He took place and the two started driving.
"Ughh, too many close encounters already!" Ben complained.
The dilo got up and spit on Darius' gyrosphere, only obstructing the view.
"Wished for windshield wipers now," he mumbled.
The dilo jumped and tried to bite the glass, but wasn't successful. It growled one last time and rushed out of the building.
"Darius, you coming?" Kenji asked via radio. He turned to Ben and Sammy.
"Aww there you are Tango! Be kind to Yaz and she will be kind to you!" Sammy said through the glass. Her pet sat on Yasmina's lap.
"Same for you Bumpy!" Ben added. Bumpy also sat on Yasmina's lap next to Tango.
Ohh how great! She thought sarcastically.
It was finally time to leave. The three gyrospheres blasted across the jungle and ended up on the open fields.
"Kenji, how are we on the map?" Darius asked.
"Gyrosphere 3 to gyrosphere 1, we must cross this field. 40 kilometres remaining, over," Kenji explained.
"Maybe Sammy was a better choice…" Yasmina said.
"Let's driveeee!" Kenji shouted, giving the rest a slight earrape.
The three balls rushed across the plains, but Darius stopped driving.
"Guys wait!"
"Kenji to Darius, what's wrong, over."
"Can you stop doing that?" Brooklyn asked.
"Kenji to Brooklyn, negative, over."
"Ssssjt! Did you hear that?" Darius asked the rest.
Everyone was silent for a moment. Then, a loud vibration. Darius looked outside to a water vibrated again.
The vibrations came closer, and now the campers could also hear plants and wood getting crushed. They saw a part of the jungle move, and then…
"Indominus Rex!" Brooklyn said under her breath.
The indominus growled loudly and started running towards the teens.
"Ruuuuun!" Darius pulled the controls and drove away full-speed. The others followed.
The three balls split up from each other. The indominus targetted Ben and Sammy.
"It's getting closer!" Ben shouted.
The theropod got close and hit the gyrosphere with its claws, pushing it in one direction.
"Aaaaah! Do something!" Ben shouted again.
"I lost control! Aaah!" Sammy replied.
The sphere immobilised itself again, but Ben and Sammy were upside down. They saw the indominus rush towards them again.
They screamed out of fear and tried to detach the security belts, but couldn't. The predator hit the sphere again, with its head.
The ball slipped over the grass and stopped right next to a river, and a waterfall. It had a slight rift on the front.
"We need help now!" Ben shouted.
"The radio is bust, we can't do anything!" Sammy replied.
They saw the indominus approach. With its claws it hit the sphere off the cliff, making it sink in the water.
From a distance, the four other campers had regrouped and saw the whole scene in horror.
"They fell off! We must rescue them!" Darius explained.
The indominus turned around and growled as he saw the other teens.
"Eh, perhaps we should get in safety first?" Kenji replied.
We will distract that thing, you two go help Ben and Sammy! Go!" Darius drove onto the fields.
"Darius no! You're crazy! Sigh…"
The indominus followed them, opening up the way for Yaz and Kenji.
"No time to lose, Darius will figure it out!" Yasmina pushed Bumpy and Tango to Kenji and took over the controls.
They drove in the opposite direction and found a way off the cliff. Yasmina parked the sphere next to the water and the two jumped out, while locking their pets in.
"Oh no! They sank! Ben! Sammy!" Kenji shouted at the water.
"You hear that Ben? It was Kenji!" Sammy noticed being under the water.
"Help! Help!" They both shouted.
The gyrosphere was on the bottom of the pool. No water was dripping in, yet.
"I'm gonna see down there, hold that for me!" Yasmina explained, handing her hair-tie to Kenji. She dove right after before he could say anything.
"Look!" Ben said pointing, "It's Yaz!"
"Yaz! Help!" They shouted.
Yasmina approached one door and tried to open it, without success. She looked at Sammy, who appeared very worried.
They can't hear me of course, but we'll find a way to get you out! Stay here, I'll be right back! Yasmina thought, while doing hand gestures. She went back up.
Suddenly, a little water drop fell in the sphere. "Eh Sammy?"
"Yes Ben?"
Ben pointed at the rift. It started making cracking noises. More water drops came out. The two looked at each other and gulped.
Away from them, Darius and Brooklyn had lured the Indominus away into the jungle. They tried to take advantage of the trees to slow down the monster.
"It's gaining ground on us!" Brooklyn mentioned.
"Bet you'd want to film this!" Darius replied while turning behind a tree. The Indominus bumped against it.
"It broke!" Even this wouldn't please my fans… Sigh… Brooklyn thought, overthinking for a moment until Darius shook her arm.
"Brooklyn! Keep an eye on— Aaah!"
The Indominus hit the sphere with its claws. Darius lost control too now. They were spinning, until they bumped against something else. The two looked up, and saw a carnotaurus.
"T-Toro!" Brooklyn exclaimed, recognizing him.
"You gave it a name?"
"Actually it was Ke—"
Toro roared at the teens and hit the sphere with its horns, sending it back to the Indominus. But it didn't pay attention to the campers any more. She fixed her sight on the other carnivore present. They growled at each other.
Darius took advantage of the situation to drive away to the jungle, fearing a bloodbath he didn't want to see. But no other loud growls were heard. Darius turned around, and observed them.
"Darius what are you doing! We need to leave!" Brooklyn whispered.
"They, are communicating!" Darius told himself.
"Ugh! We're gonna get eaten!" Brooklyn complained, gliding down her seat. She accidentally hit the controls, making the gyrosphere move one metre backward. The two predators turned their heads to the noise, and growled loudly at the teens.
"Ehh, time to move!" Darius turned around and drove away in max speed, with two theropods chasing him.
Back to the rest, Kenji helped Yasmina out of the water.
"Are they, s-still—"
"They are! But we must act quickly! I saw a rift in the glass," Yasmina explained.
"Ugh, how do we get them out? How do we get them out! Why can't we just pull them out like, like with a rope or something…" Kenji mumbled while turning in circles.
"Kenji that's it!" Yasmina replied excitedly, grabbing his shoulders.
"What did I just say?"
"We'll pull them out with our gyrosphere! For the ropes we can use lianas!"
"Oh, great! Let's do this!" And the two ran into the jungle to gather lianas.
"Ugh, they need to hurry, quick! I' losing it in here!" Ben said.
"My shoes are completely wet already!" Sammy added. The water drops turned into a small flow. The rift cracked more, and water continued to come.
Not much time after, Kenji and Yasmina had gathered a ton of lianas and attached them to each other.
"All attached to our sphere!" Kenji told. Bumpy and Tango were looking from inside the sphere.
"Okay, I'll go back then…" Yasmina dove again with the lianas in her hands.
Please let this work, we have no time! She thought.
"Yaz is back! Help us quickly!" Sammy shouted. The water was already at their knees.
"Ohh it's cold!" Ben added.
Yasmina swam all around the sphere and knotted the lianas. She gave a thumbs up to her trapped friends and pulled on last time. She gave her trapped friends a thumbs up and went back to the surface.
What she didn't notice, is the rift getting bigger when pulling the lianas tighter around the sphere.
"The water! It's rising!" Ben yelled, feeling it at his torso already.
Yasmina got out the pool. She gave a sign to Kenji to start.
"Alright! Let's go!" Kenji activated the gyrosphere. It started moving. The trapped one slipped over the pool's bottom.
Come on please work! Yasmina thought, losing her nerves.
Kenji put extra power, and then, their friends resurfaced. Kenji pulled them out successfully, but the water had reached their chins.
"Help, we, are, drow…ni…ng," Sammy tried to yell, but the water was too present. The two were exhausted.
"We must remove all the water! Hold on guys!" Yasmina yelled. She tried again to open the doors, but it didn't work. She saw her friends struggle to breath.
"No no no! Open up!" She shouted of anger, while forming tears.
"Turn it so that the rift can remove the water!" Kenji said.
He and Yaz moved the sphere with all their strength. The rift was on the bottom and the water started flowing out. Soon after, it was emptied.
Ben and Sammy fell unconscious. Yasmina and Kenji became even more nervous.
"We must help them now, or they'll die!" Yasmina approached the rift and tried to reach the control panel with her arm, but she cut herself to the glass.
"Oush! Stupid thing!" Yasmina gave it a kick while rubbing her wound. She put a leave around it.
Kenji was thinking by biting his nails while Yasmina continued to kick the doors.
"Do something Kenji! Help them, please!"
Kenji thought. He snapped his fingers and rushed to the other gyrosphere.
"They are all equipped with an emergency hammer!"
"Why didn't we… Break it quickly!"
Kenji approached the door and started hitting it. The glass finally broke, and their friends flowed out with the water.
"Wake up please!" Yasmina shouted. She gave Sammy immediate CPR. Kenji softly hit Ben's cheeks and threw some water over him.
Ben started coughing out water and slowly started breathing. Kenji kneeled next to him.
"Oh, you're alive! Thank God!" Kenji hugged his friend.
"Wh-what is, cough, going on?" Ben asked.
Kenji helped him up. The boys turned around and saw Yasmina still trying to help Sammy.
Please, Sammy, please…
Darius and Brooklyn were still being chased by the Indominus and Toro. They were still in the jungle, passing by trees and bushes. But then…
"Watch out!" Brooklyn pointed in front of them. They were going straight to a rocky cliff. The gyrosphere couldn't move in any direction any more.
"We're trapped!" Darius yelled.
Toro and the Indominus approached them, both roaring loudly. Darius and Brooklyn looked away in fear.
Before they could put its teeth in the sphere, a helicopter high in the sky started shooting at the Indominus, making it run away. Toro panicked and vanished too.
Darius slowly opened one eye and noticed all the danger disappeared. He heard a far-away roar of the Indominus and shots being fired.
"They are hunting it down!" He told himself.
Brooklyn also opened her eyes and felt reassured. She looked to Darius.
"We must go back to the rest now. Hopefully they rescued Sam and Ben!"
Darius nodded and pulled the control lever. At full speed they left the jungle.
Some moments later they got back on the open fields. Darius stopped for a moment to look around.
"There is the river!" Brooklyn pointed at it.
The duo got there as fast as possible. They drove around the cliff and found a way down. Their fellow campers were in sight.
"Look it's Darius and Brooklyn!" Ben pointed.
Thank God they're safe… Kenji thought, seeing his friends run to him.
"Kenji!" Brooklyn ran to him and wanted to hug him, but she saw Yasmina struggling with Sammy and approached them instead. All gathered around them.
"Please Sammy! Please!" Yasmina screamed, trying to aid her friend. She panted loudly of frustration.
"You can't leave us now! Not after what we've been through!" Yasmina tried mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but Sammy still didn't move.
"Yaz, she—"
"No! No she didn't!"
Everyone looked saddened. Yasmina continued to apply CPR, but nothing changed. She stopped for a moment and looked at her friend. A tear formed in her eye.
Ben had let out their pets of the gyrosphere. Tango approached Sammy and rubbed his head against hers.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for how I was, how I acted towards you. You were a good person, and I wish… I wish we could've left each other as friends…"
She looked down as more tears formed.
