The New World

Chapter 5

Annabeth sighed as she wiped the sweat off of her brow. They were currently seeing whether or not it would be worth connecting the two camps or just consolidating in New Rome. They eventually settled on connecting them as she felt something deep down in her saying that she should preserve Camp Half-Blood. It didn't help settle any feelings of unease but no matter.

As the world was now filled with high levels of radiation normal mortals weren't able to survive in these conditions. The same didn't apply to the demigods because they were the descendants of gods so as such the Athena cabin had concluded, as campers tested out leaving the border and not died from the radiation, that the trace amounts of ichor that flowed through their veins helped them survive.

The gods confirmed that yes majority of the mortals were dead save a select few groups. Travel to Olympus was now impossible as the flame of Western Civilization was in space, as such the new location of Olympus was above a space station now being called the Ark. But as a majority of the world's population was decimated, the gods were severely weakened as the fire that kept them going was effectively almost completely snuffed out.

Praimfaya... That's what the gods said majority of the mortals underground were calling it. And it fit because when the nukes all went off a huge wave of fire and radiation spread across the Earth effectively killing majority of the planet. As such it was the killing of nature that affected the nature spirits so. All the demigods felt it, the huge loss of life that came with the fire. They mourned but they kept moving as stopping would remind them. Of the world they lost, of the families, children, and life that they would never have again.

The monsters too were weakened as the fears and worst parts of humanity that kept them going disappeared and not enough of humanity remained for them to have the strength to leave Tartarus. Every now and then they would come back just to find that the surface of the Earth closely resembled the Pit as the very air hurt to breathe and there was close to no life. So many of them stopped trying, reserving themselves to an eternity in the Pit.

Eventually Olympus became unattainable, so the demigods decided that they would work on finishing the portal that would help join the two camps forever. They had started with the help of the Hecate cabin and the gods after the Giant War. They did it completing the marble arch that would ensure free travel between New Rome and what would eventually become New Athens after Annabeth redesigned everything.

She kept the heart of Camp Half-Blood the same but with magic they had expanded the land using spatial manipulation to include a small city overlooking Long Island Sound that married the best architecture of the former modern day New York with Ancient Greece. Thanks to their Roman brothers and sisters the process went relatively quick until the day they all went to sleep.

After everything was complete, they went to sleep one night leaving the normal watches on rotation and when morning came they found that about 75 years had passed in the blink of an eye. Apparently the gods had banded together to freeze their children in time in order to give them a better chance of being able to live in a world that would better support them.

And for those 75 years whilst they slumbered they put forth effort into reforming the Earth into a beautiful planet once again healing the nature worthy of the days before Pan's death. The radiation was left alone as the inhabitants of the Earth could survive on it. From the cold, dead surface a sprawling civilization came forth.

Wars once again broke out, but eventually they were united under the latest Commander. Lexa they called her. Under her the 12 Clans became the Coalition, it was shaky at times as they tested her, but her strength showed again and again. The gods eventually came to settle above the Tower in Polis as the flame, literally and figuratively, burned bright. And it was then when the giant flaming piece of metal fell from the sky, that the gods decided to waken their children as the Earth was okay to come back to.

/Line Break Alert/

Annabeth still remembered the first day they awoke seeing that they no longer appeared to be in New York. Eventually she calculated that they were closer to where she originally was from around what used to be Virginia. They were no longer on Long Island but on a peninsula close to a huge forest.

New Rome too was moved to what seemed like the Shenandoah mountains tucked in a giant valley not too far from another civilization that seemed oblivious to their presence.

She also remembered the day that they saw a spaceship fall miles away from Camp Half-Blood. That was the day that their lives just trying to figure out what to do changed.

They had dispatched a group consisting of several Hermes and Apollo campers toward the crash site only to be attacked on their way. Because of the quick reaction of the Apollo campers by shooting exploding arrows they thankfully had no casualties but from what they found out were called Trikru the existence of Camp was exposed.

Before the mortal world had died due to nukes the Camp had never had to worry about mortals discovering them as the distractor spells would usually keep them out. That and the fact that they never saw anything other than strawberry fields it was never a thought in their minds.

Until that night where they had ten of their own killed due to what seemed like legacies who came in at the dead of night and slaughtered them.

That was the day the demigods of New Rome and Camp Half-blood decided that since Terminus could effectively defend New Rome against any unwanted intruders, they began construction on a wall around New Athens. Along with the Romans standing watch along with the Greeks effectively defending against any invaders.

At Arkadia (Present Day)

"Chancellor, we have a new development," a guard said as he approached the Chancellor in her office.

"What is it?" Abby sighed as she pressed her fingers to her temples.

"We have a bunch of injured Trikru here asking for medical aid. There's too many for their healers," the guard replied as he stood stiffly.

"Someone get Solace out here to help Jackson with the injured and get me Lincoln to help me talk to any that are uninjured," she barked as she quickly got up to meet those that were outside.

As soon as she got there Lincoln came running.

"What happened?" He asked one of the warriors in Trigedasleng.

"The ones from the city they call New Athens" the man weakly replied as he coughed up blood.

Lincoln sucked in a breath of air as he froze. He had completely forgotten about the battle hardened warriors that had appeared practically overnight around a year ago.

"We had attacked, but they came back at us harder. They shot arrows that exploded and obliterated our camp."

As Lincoln relayed this to her Will froze.

"Did you just say New Athens?" He asked with a wild look in his eyes. "Tell me you're lying."

A/N- This has been in my drafts for the last four years.
