Prologue

The helicopters circled around in the rain, lights shining down on the man standing there, surrounded by cop cars. He stood there, with a girl clutching tightly to his leg, one of his hands rest on her head, gently running through her soaked hair.

He looked around at the cops around him, a small, sad smile on his face. Slowly, he kneeled down and hugged the girl, pulling her close. He whispered something into her ear as he held her tight.

Gulping, the child pulled away, turned around, and lay on the ground, putting her hands on her head. The man watched her for a minute before standing again, pulling out a gun as he did.

He looked down at the girl as the cops tensed up, his small smile never leaving his face. Turning his gaze to the police, he shouted, "I won't risk my daughter in the crossfire, but I also know the punishment for what I've done, so..." and before anyone could move he pointed the gun towards his head.

And squeezed the trigger.

The girl was Elyna Shuneele, daughter of a major serial killer. Her mother was being held at a mental institute, so it was no surprise that is was hard to find her a home. Little did they know how important the little girl was.

Elyna Shuneele, leader of the Digidestined.

I ran through the park, tears running down my face. After all we had been through, the Digidestined and I, they had looked at me like they never even knew me.

I can't blame them, I'd hate me too. This was the third family I had lost. My father the first. Everyone hated him, thinking him psychotic and a bastard. Like they knew. I knew him for who he really was. A kind, gentle person with his back against the wall. A father that never struck his daughter. That never looked down at me.

Then there was my little step brother, the only person to ever believe in me. He would keep following me everywhere, and that was his downfall.

And now them. We had started become a family in the digital world, needing each other to survive. But now...

Now I'm alone again.

Finally I stopped, dropping to my knees. Reaching up, I slipped the goggles off my head. One of the lenses was cracked.

I still cried as I reached into my pocket and pulled out a picture and looked at it.

It was of us in the digital world. We were so happy when we had it taken. Things were so perfect.

Shuddering, I held both my treasures to my chest as I fell on my side, no longer able to even keep myself up. I didn't care anymore.

I lay there, sobbing, as it started to rain.

It was raining the last two times as well, when I lost my dad and my step brother.

The rain was cold, but I welcomed it. Perhaps it would kill me, take me away from all of this.

Away from the pain.

I was still crying as I fell asleep. Dreams filled my sleep. Dreams of how it all began...

Author Note Sorry for how short the chapter is, the others will be longer. This one was just to break the ice, nothing more. The others will really get the story going.
