Chapter 10

Courtney's POV

October

Saturday

12:00pm

I can't believe were in October already and a month since Duncan has come back into my life...let me rephrase that.

Duncan...Duncan has come back into my life because he now knows of our daughter who I didn't tell him about til...

Sighing heavily I give up I can't word it or rephrase it any other way. All that I should say is he is a good dad to Serenity and she loves him so much just like he loves her. I keep holding back on telling him as to why I kept this from him, and after some deep thinking it was unfair to him. One things for sure he won't like it one bit.

" Mommy " said Serenity running into my bedroom with her shoes in hand.

I had just finished getting ready today was gonna be quite the day, checking to make sure I was decently dressed. I was wearing a beige long sleeved fitted sweater and black dress pants with a thin gold belt and black ankle boots. I wore a small pendant necklace with gold stud earrings, and for my makeup I went with a natural tone eyeshadow with mascara and eyeliner. For my hair I had it in a low bun then pulled a few strands to frame my face.

" You beautiful mommy " comments Serenity smiling at me " thank you and you look very pretty " I replied crouching down in front of her to fix her knee length magenta sweater dress with thick cream leggings, and her hair in small pigtails. It was cold outside today and I wanted her to be warm " lets get your shoes on " I add helping put on her pink sneakers a gift from Duncans mom who we're meeting today.

I have been beyond nervous this whole week when Duncan said that his mom wanted to meet me and Serenity, I was shocked at first when he asked to make arrangements for the long awaited meeting.

I definitely couldn't say no to his mom for wanting to meet me or wanting to know her granddaughter, as soon as I said yes Duncan showed up the next day with 10 or more bags of gifts for Serenity turns out his mom was beyond excited for there to be a girl in the family. I swear she must of bought the entire store.

Just then we heard a knock at the door, " daddy is here " announced Serenity running off making me smile at her excitement.

Standing up I follow behind her to see that she's jumping eagerly waiting to see her dad. Once I unlock the door standing there is Duncan smiling " wow you look beautiful " he greets eyeing me up and down making me blush " thank you I tried to look decent " I answer opening the door more so that he can enter " trust me you don't have to try babe " he replies smiling at me.

Just then Serenity runs to him " hi daddy " she greets hugging his leg " there's my girl " said Duncan picking Serenity up " we meet gamma today? " she asks him smiling, " yes we are and she's very excited to meet you and mommy today " he said glancing over at me knowing I'm nervous " yay! I wanna bring Duncan deer too " she says mentioning her favourite plush deer only to make me smile.

Duncan smiles nervously at hearing the name of the deer, it makes me laugh thinking of how funny it will be once everyone finds out. " Okay honey go find him " he said putting her down " I really want her to change the name " Duncan adds trying to hide his embarrassment.

Opening the closet to grab my jacket and scarf I couldn't help but laugh lightly " well she did name it after you because it's special to her " I explain putting my jacket on followed by putting my scarf around my neck, " true " sighs Duncan only to once again get caught checking me out. " Can you stop eyeing me for a second " I ask pulling my zipper up " can't help it princess you only got hotter " he teases smiling at me which only makes me shake my head.

" Also don't be nervous about meeting mom she doesn't think nothing bad of you " said Duncan sounding reassuring " I hate that your good at reading people " I answered but as Duncan was about to say something Serenity came running with her toy " ready " she announces making us smile.

" Alright let's do this " he says opening the door for us...

30 minutes later

Duncan parks the car at our destination which turns out to be a traditional Greek restaurant, he explained that his parents use to bring him and his brothers when they younger. It was there family go to.

Unbuckling my seatbelt I keep my breathing steady " hey it's gonna be okay " Duncan reassures me getting my attention " I hope " I breath before getting out from the car.

Duncan carries Serenity in his arms as we walk up to the restaurant entrance, as we went inside were immediately greeted by the hostess " welcome do you have a reservation? " she asks smiling at us.

" Yes, reservation under Melinda stone I believe my mom is here " says Duncan looking around the restaurant " oh yes your family is here...please yourself and wife can follow me " says the hostess leading us.

I blush hearing what I just heard her say " wife she thinks I'm Duncan's wife " I said silently in my head. Then again Duncan is carrying Serenity and we're coming together so I guess it's why she would assume that were a married couple.

" Shall we Mrs.Duncan " teased Duncan making me roll my eyes " haha very funny " I replied as we followed the hostess to the table. Each step we took I could feel my breathing get short, I'm so nervous it's really getting to me.

" I wonder why mom got a big...table " said Duncan stopping in his track just at we were about to reach the table, " what's wrong? " I asked seeing his eye open, " damnit I didn't think there was going to be more company " he whispers looking at the table ahead.

Confused I look ahead see that there sitting with who I guess was Duncan's mom was an older man along with two older men, " are they? " I asked seeing Duncan nod " my dad and brothers " he grunts.

Normal POV

12:30pm

Duncan couldn't believe who was joining them. He wanted it to be only the four of them getting together not including his dad and brothers.

Why didn't she tell him?

Dad and Duncan don't talk due to them not being able to stand one another and as for Lincoln and John the three barely see one another let alone get together to hang out. At this moment Duncan didn't know what was worse.

( AN: Character description: Lincoln 29 ( Oldest Brother ), currently runs marketing for a company. He has black hair, business man haircut, 5'9, medium build, skin colour like Duncan's, brown eyes. John 26 ( Middle Child or Second oldest brother) is in Bank management. 5'8, lean and thin, has medium dark hair in a gentlemen's style cut, has teal eyes. As for his parents I assume everyone has seen " a video message from home " )

There's no way his mom could of invited them, no doubt she must of mentioned they were meeting today and they just decided to tag along at least for his brothers but his dad no doubt his mom must of given him hell from the last encounter.

" I'm gonna need a drink to get through this " Duncan breathed composing myself, " hey it's gonna be okay " said Courtney seeing him start to stress " things happen but we can get through it " she adds placing her hand on his shoulder giving him reassurance.

" Daddy you okay? " asks Serenity looking at her dad curiously hearing her concerned for Duncan helped him calm down. Thinking to himself at that moment how he must be one lucky guy to have two of the most important people in his life.

" Yeah I'm good thank you...lets do this " said Duncan making his way to the table.

Melinda sighed heavily looking at her husband and two other sons who currently sat at the table she was not expecting this of all days.

She was just on her way out when both Lincoln and John arrived unannounced at the house, when they noticed she was going out they asked and as much as she tried to keep it quiet Melinda ended up telling them about Duncan recently finding out he has a child and that she was leaving to go meet him, his former girlfriend and there niece.

Both brothers were shocked hearing the new information that they were unaware of and asked if they could join the lunch.

Melinda was unsure at first and wanted to call Duncan to let him know but Lincoln insisted to not phone him knowing he will get angry and call off the lunch, while John agreed and thought it would be a nice surprise for there brother to see them both since they don't see much of each other. Shaking her head at the two she agreed but warned them that if they disrespect Duncan it will be an earful for them both.

After promising to be on there best behaviour all three left to the restaurant.

Upon arriving halfway to the entrance John spotted his dads car in the parking lot, making Melinda get frustrated when asking James what he was doing here he simply answered " I only wanted to see Duncan with his daughter and her mother ". Hearing his confession made Melinda see that he wanted to attempt to fix things with his son, they never really saw eye to eye on anything but when Duncan got into problems it only got worse turning them into enemies. Melinda then convinced him to join which Duncan won't like.

Now here they all were waiting to see what the reaction to the family being at one table.

Taking a sip of wine Melinda kept her eyes open checking to see if Duncan has arrived.

" So what do you think she will look like? " asks John looking at his parents and brother, " well past girlfriends were...unique looking " said James scratching his head thinking back to the girls Duncan preferred which were the ones with tattoos, piercings, coloured hair like his, rude and would occasionally steal something from there house, " aside from a baby this chick must of had some impact on Duncan to even actually go to school " replies Lincoln remembering his brothers minor changes before going to jail.

" When we do meet her I want all of you to be respectful and welcome her " said Melinda looking at the three of them before turning to see Duncan coming into view but as she did her eyes were forming tears seeing the little girl he was carrying along with the young women walking beside them, " they're here " she breathes standing up from her seat along with her husband and sons.

As Duncan and Courtney arrived at the table they noticed everyone standing, " hello family " greets Duncan looking at everyone mostly his eyes met with with moms and brothers but he only glanced at his dad for a moment.

" Geez Duncan how did you get the hottie? " asks John out loud making everyone look at him for the outburst " I must agree with this where did you meet her? " asks Lincoln making James cover his face with one hand " boys " gasps Melinda feeling embarrassed before walking towards Duncan and Courtney.

Laughing nervously to forget the comments said " Hello my dear I'm Duncan's mother Melinda " she greets holding her hand out " it's really nice to meet you Mrs.Stone I'm Courtney " she answered shaking hands with Melinda, " and I have to say this but my son didn't say how gorgeous you are " comments Melinda smiling at a now blushing Courtney while Duncan's eyes open up hearing what was just said.

" This is going as I thought it would " said Duncan deep in his thoughts.

Serenity hid her face into Duncans neck clearly getting shy from seeing all the new people, " hey its okay this is daddy's family and they want to meet you " explained Courtney holding her hand attempting to comfort Serenity , " is this my granddaughter? " asks Melinda trying not to let her tears falls looking at the little girl in Duncans arm.

Placing Serenity down on the ground Duncan holds her hand, " yes mom this is Serenity " answers Duncan smiling " Serenity say hi this is your grandma " he adds encouraging her to say something.

" Hello honey " greets Melinda smiling at her grandchild " hi gamma " greets Serenity in a shy tone of voice " your so pretty " said Melinda kneeling in front of Serenity who smiles shyly at her grandma, " who's that there? " Melinda asks pointing at the plush deer " uh..." Duncan replies but before he could finish his words " Duncan Deer daddy gave me him " Serenity answers hugging the deer.

John and Lincoln silently snickered upon hearing the name but knew they had to refrain themselves from laughing even there dad who doesn't laugh at anything but this made him want to laugh.

" Well it's nice to meet your friend my dear " said Melinda finding everything about her granddaughter to be adorable " she really loves her gift " replies Courtney smiling at the scene.

" Uh...we're still here " Lincoln announces making Duncan remember that others were there as well.

After Duncan introduced his brothers and dad to Courtney along with Serenity knowing her uncles and grandpa they all settled down. Serenity decided to sit beside her grandma with Courtney on the other side and Duncan sitting beside Courtney.

" Would everyone like to order drinks? " asks the waitress " yes " everyone answers. Courtney asks for a glass of white wine, Duncan asks for a glass of scotch on the rocks, Lincoln and John order a lager and James orders a glass of red wine. Lastly Serenity asks for apple juice.

" So Courtney tell us how did you and Duncan meet? " asks James attempting to make conversation " we were on the same team back on Total Drama Island " Courtney answered looking up from the menu " that show seemed a bit out there when it first started " said Lincoln looking at the pair, " it was but it was honestly it wasn't all bad " Duncan replies smiling at Courtney " that's true we met great people from all different paths of life " explained Courtney looking back at Duncan thinking of the memories.

" So what made you fall for each other? " John asks smiling mischievously at the two " well to be honest I hated Duncan at first he was such a rule breaker, rebellious, and knew how to annoy people " explains Courtney while Duncan tries to not laugh " that's our son " said Melinda smiling at her son before looking back at Serenity colour on the children's activity sheet.

" My dear you look properly brought up, accomplished and very well educated I thought a young woman like yourself would be in Harvard " said James which made both Lincoln and John nod in agreement.

Taking a breath Courtney spoke " actually I was accepted into Harvard " she said making all eyes except Serenity be on her " you got into your dream university...why didn't you ever tell me? " asks Duncan shocked making Courtney nervous " I was 4 months pregnant when I got my letter and I couldn't take a baby with me " explains Courtney " I put everything aside to be a good mother " she added keeping calm as this was a sensitive topic not best to be discussed in front of everyone.

Just then the waitress arrived with everyone's drink, " Courtney have a drink " offered Melinda noticing how tense she currently was.

Picking up his Lager John whispers quietly " Awkward "

A while after they all put there food orders in and kept questions simple but Duncan was having a hard time processing what he just heard Courtney say, he was beginning to feel pain in chest along with thinking how maybe his dad was right he did ruin her life.

Duncan's POV

Standing up from the table suddenly I look around to locate the patio door to see it open.

" Duncan are you okay? " asks Courtney me as I try not to show " yeah I just need to go to the bathroom be right back " I breathed quickly walking away from the table and rushed towards the patio hoping no one saw.

Once outside the cold air hit me but it was needed especially since I felt my body getting hot I wasn't sure if it was from how stressed and nervous I was for this gathering or was it knowing Courtney sacrificed everything she worked hard for and wanted had to be put aside because I got her pregnant.

My mind was getting all of these " what if " " I should of " " if I hadn't " " how stupid of me " " if we hadn't " questions everything was just pouring in that I didn't feel myself tearing up, " god I'm so stupid " I breath holding my head, " no your not " said someone behind me.

Turning around I turn to see dad with a straight face waiting patiently for me to calm down a bit.

" Listen if your here to tell me I ruined Courtneys life then it's clear I did " I replied quickly wiping my tears with my sleeve.

Dad walks in front of me standing still momentarily before placing both his hands on my shoulders then giving me a firm squeeze, " your not stupid and you didn't mean for any of this to happen " he said in a stern tone " you were both young to have a baby and yes the mother of your child had something big she put aside " dad continues and for the first time were not fighting. " But she made a choice and chose to raise your daughter with as much love and attention any parent would give their child...your here now for them and by the smile I see on my granddaughter she's happy to have you as her father ".

Was this really my dad giving me fatherly wisdom? The same man who give me looks of disappointment and shame, lecture me for all my mistakes and fuckups, he would open the door when I was being brought home by the cops, attending court hearings and watched as I got taken to jail. Was this guy really being my dad?

" Why are you saying this to me now after everything? " I asked my brain processing everything " we never got along dad let alone have a conversation " I added looking at him.

" I'm saying this now because you've grown up and you finally met a good woman who clearly sees more in you " answered dad smirking lightly at me along with releasing my shoulders, " thanks old man " I replied smiling " thats dad now lets go back inside " he says as we go back inside.

As we got back to the table our orders arrived throughout the rest of time we were together Courtney and me were asked more questions related to TDI making my brothers, mom and even dad laugh especially how we talked about the phobia challenge, it made me majorly embarrassed recalling how I was afraid of Celine Dion music store standees and Courtney unadmitted fear of green jelly.

When we finished eating our lunches we got asked if anyone wanted dessert which perked up Serenity, surprisingly Courtney allowed her to have an ice cream sundae which clearly made her excited.

" Someone clearly has a sweet tooth like someone else I know " said mom eyeing me " a guy can like sweet things too " I answered crossing my arms " so Serenity is going to preschool now? " asks Lincoln smiling at his niece who was playing with her deer " yes she loves it but you should of seen her first day " Courtney answered looking at Serenity " what happened? " asks dad smiling.

" When we arrived she was so scared of me leaving and when we got to her classroom she tried hiding behind me " laughed Courtney which also got my mom laughing too " that sounds very familiar...I seem to recall a certain person at this very table who also would hide behind me " mom explained looking straight at me " what!! No way you must be talking about Lincoln or John " I replied looking at my brothers laugh " I was shy? " I asked.

" So that's where she gets it from " teased Courtney smiling at me " its kinda cute picturing it now " she adds only to make me smile.

2:30pm

Once we all felt done with everything, I picked up the bill for us all before leaving. I once again was carrying Serenity who had fallen asleep after having a fully stomach and meeting my family, all in all this turned out pretty good in the end.

" Courtney my dear it was wonderful to finally meet you " said mom giving her a hug " the feeling is mutual Mrs.Stone " Courtney replies hugging mom back " I hope we see each other again " said dad to Courtney " definitely and Mrs.Stone if you wouldn't mind can I ask you to babysit Serenity? " Courtney asks which only made mom nearly jump in the air " of course I'd love to and you can all me Melinda " answers mom happily.

3:00pm

We arrived back at Courtneys apartment, once inside I take Serenity to her room and carefully put her in bed. Courtney covers her with a blanket followed by us going to the living room.

Sighing heavily Courtney sits on the love seat while I sit in the arm chair, " well that went really good " I breathed looking at Courtney laying on the couch " yeah your parents are good people Duncan and your brothers are cool " she said looking up at the ceiling " I'm glad you got to meet them " I respond unable to keep my eyes off Courtney.

Inhaling I close my eyes for a moment before I ask something that has me bothered " why didn't you tell me you got into Harvard? " I asked turning my head to look in Courtney's direction making her relaxed self become nervous, " Duncan I already said why " she answers looking at me " fair enough, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant? " I asked this time Courtney sits up straight trying to keep her breathing steady " just tell me Courtney you can't keep it hidden anymore I want to know " standing up from the chair.

Courtney stood up from the couch and walked to the other side of the where she paced for a bit before speaking...

" I wanted to tell you...believe me Duncan I did but after I found out I told my parents " starts Courtney her voice quivering a bit " when I told them I was keeping the baby they were furious " I keep still as I listen to what she tells me and so far I'm not liking it one bit " after I explained you were the father it got worse and it disappointed me to even call them my parents and they forbid me from telling you Duncan " she finishes wiping tears away from her eyes.

Balling my hands into fists I thought my dad was bad considering with everything I did but Courtneys parents get first place in worst parents, " that's bullshit how could they forbid you from something important? " I asked feeling my blood boil " it gets worse " she said nervously as I wait patiently to hear the next part.

Taking a deep breath before speaking Courtney mentally prepares herself " they said if I told you I was pregnant they would file charges on you for raping me " she cried covering her face.

My entire body froze hearing the confession. This whole damn world can charge me with any crime but taking someone by force without consent was the one thing I would never do in my life, Courtneys parents can go straight to hell.
