Chapter 3: Phone Call (Part 1)
Killua winced. Damn his head hurt. Where the hell was he anyway? What-
"Killua!" Gon's familiar voice brought back his consciousness. "What did she do to you?! Are you okay?!"
What did she do to him? Oh. Now, he remembered. She was interrogating him and- and- Shit. He had thought about Kurapika. He had given him away.
He immediately sat up, eyes darting around the room to assess the situation. Their hostility had doubled already. Nobunaga in particular wasn't looking very pleased.
"How long was I out for?" He rubbed between his eyes. Not too long, he hoped.
"Uh... a minute maybe?"
"Oh-"
"Hey, brat." A chill ran through him. The sword guy was oozing bloodlust now, directly at him too. Shit. Shit. Shit. "Why the fuck did you hide that information, huh?! I told you not to-"
"Nobunaga." It was Pakunoda's clear voice interrupting this time. "I already told you. The Chain User is his friend. It's understandable he wouldn't-"
"Understandable?! Whose side are you on, HUH?!" The bloodlust moved over to the blonde, granting him some relief-
"Killua?" Gon's face looked grimmer than ever, brows knitted together in a deep frown. "Who is it?"
Killua gulped. He doubted he could get away with a lie. Still, what the fuck else was he supposed to do other than lie? Tell him-
"A boy named Kurapika." The blonde saved him the trouble.
"Huh?" Gon's face went blank. Skeptical. "For real?"
Killua flinched. "Yeah." He expected Gon to look betrayed. If only somehow-
"That's great!" He clapped his hands together, beaming. Actually beaming. "He really got one, that quickly!"
Killua forgot how to breathe. The hostility doubled. No, tripled. No, worse. He leapt forward before the name could leave his lips, anticipating the attack.
"Gon!" He yelled a moment later, the sword guy's blade slicing over their heads.
"Why did you-" Gon's confused voice came from beneath him. "-Oh."
"Fucking. Say. That. Again." Nobunaga looked livid, his bloodlust practically swallowing them up.
"Say wh-" Gon began.
"He doesn't actually mean it."
Gon frowned. "I don't get it? Why is he upset?" He turned to the swordsman glaring down at him, softly pushing Killua away. "You know we don't like you, right?"
A grin broke out on the man's face, soon turning into a laugh. "See, boss! That's what I was telling you about!"
The two boys shared a look.
"Why are you still going on about this?" Machi huffed.
Killua wanted to ask the exact same thing, paired with a couple more.
Nobunaga ignored her comment, eyes looking big and hopeful.
Chrollo smiled- no, only the corners of bis lips turned up. There was no real expression in his eyes- at least none he could detect. "Revenge takes precedence. If all goes well, we could give it a try."
Obviously, this guy's dodging the question. Nobunaga remained hopeful nonetheless.
"Paku." Chrollo turned to the blonde. "You have their things, correct? Does that include their phones?"
"Of course, boss." A hand in her pocket and Gon's new beetle phone was out. She slid the wings open, a slight frown on her face. "It's password protected-"
"I can help with that!" Shalnark beamed, instantly getting up.
"No need." Feitan stepped forward. "I can make them talk."
Killua sighed. "It's password."
A "Huh?" from Pakunoda.
"The password is 'Password'. Capital P, a s s w o r d. Password."
Gon looked confused.
"What kind of password is that?" Shalnark complained. "I could've cracked that in seconds."
The blonde began typing, ignoring his comment. "Incorrect."
Two certain faces lit up. "I can-" They both began.
Killua sighed again. "Try it with an 's' removed."
"Correct."
Killua turned to Gon. "You don't know how to spell 'password'?"
Gon remained confused. "What's the other 's' for? Also, hey wait! How did you know that was my password!"
"I was bored."
"So you tried this?!"
"It didn't deal with my boredom for long."
"That's not the point!"
"Shut. Up." Phinks growled from a corner of the hall.
"You-" Killua cut Gon off with a hand to his mouth.
"Do you wanna die?" He hissed, getting increasingly frustrated.
Gon only frowned, gently pushing his hand away. "This is not over."
"Fine." You will forget about it later anyway.
"What do I say, boss?" Pakunoda put the phone to her ear, silencing the room.
Chrollo looked thoughtful for a moment, before answering. "Hand it to me, please. I'll talk."
Thunder cracked overhead, drops of rain slipping through the cracks in the ceilings.
Kurapika stared at the corpse of the Spider leader, feeling his heart getting heavier by the moment. Even if he didn't do it himself, the head had been chopped off, taking with itself a few legs. It was only a matter of time before the entire Spider would we wiped out. They couldn't hurt any more people. He should be happy.
Then... why? Why was he not satisfied? Was he really that selfish?
It just... didn't feel right. Why?
Oh right. He hadn't done anything. He hadn't gotten his revenge. He was selfish.
"He's not picking up."
"Do you think he could've died?" Shalnark suggested.
"He isn't that reckless!" Gon glared at the blonde. "Try again."
Chrollo pressed call once more, this time deciding to turn the speaker on.
"Hey, kid!" One of the mafia scum tapped him on the shoulder. "Your phone's ringing."
Kurapika slipped a hand into his pocket, shoving the scum to walk away to a quiet corner. "Gon?" He raised an eye brow, putting the phone to his ear.
"I told you not to call me. I'm busy."
[A/N: Sorry, had to split it into two parts because my brain can't handle more than 1k words of editing.
Thank you so much once more DiamondHero! I decided to expand a little on Pakunoda's ability, adding some extra persuasion she uses when she wants to get it done quickly.
Also, I'm glad you liked it IamonlyGuest :) ]
