Much to everyone's surprise except Jaune, Isabelle Arc managed to get all their dresses and suits on time. The dresses were unique and colorful yet uniform, in particular. Bright red, light pink and white for Pyrrha, Nora and Jeanne respectively.
Pyrrha's dress was long and elegant, easy to move in and hugs her form just enough to show the grace of a champion without revealing too much. Her strides appeared confident as the sash around Pyrrha's waist flowed in the wind as though it were a cape.
Nora's was reflective of the girl's bubbliness. It appeared cute and girlish. A child-like innocence can be inferred when one looks at her. The pink was reminiscent of cotton candy, a sweet treat for a sweet girl. It was also easy to move in and Nora's dress certainly held whenever she would have her moments of dashing about, causing the literal hearts on her sleeve to be seen like floating hearts following her from behind.
Jeanne's white was purity. The whiteness was only dotted by the occasional fleur-de-lis around her waist. Gold accented the edges of Jeanne's dress that went well with the blonde hair. The design of it was akin to a dove's feather making her appear as though she was an angel coming out of a white rose.
For the boys, the difference came in the polo and tie that they wore underneath the coat. Lie Ren had green for his with Jaune having a yellow. They both wore neckties that matched their colors with Ren having a darker shade of green and Jaune having a yellow with black stripes.
Putting them together though, it is clear that they are team. They have their differences sure, but the outfits they wore somehow managed to mesh well together.
In contrast, Jaune's parents were much simpler in their design. A simple suit and a simple dress. It was clear that they wouldn't take the spotlight away from team JNPR.
"Looks like we're good to go," declared Jacques Arc.
Team JNPR would have gone earlier. The problem on that was the fact that the Arc parents stopped ever so often to take a photo of their precious son and their new daughter. Well, pretty much all of team JNPR has been adopted into the Arc family at this point. Nora and Ren were especially happy.
"I'm surprised your mom was still able to get these outfits in time," Pyrrha whispered.
Jaune scratched the back of his head. "Yeah well these things tend to happen when you got 8 kids. Some of us are bound to forget the little details last minute."
Jeanne giggled. She had no doubt that her little brother was one of them. Still, it really was amazing that the dress fit so well at the time it took for Isabelle to finish it.
Finally arriving at the entrance and after an estimate of nearly a hundred pictures, they met up with Yang who was checking the guest list.
"Looks like you're good," said she. "Come on in, guys! The night is still young." She stopped Jeanne though and whispered, "Thanks. About Blake."
"Always glad to help," Jeanne whispered back. She had other things to say for the rest of team RWBY but now is definitely a terrible time and Jeanne wouldn't be that cruel.
The dance floor was expectantly emptier than the food tables. Sure, everyone may be confident in their combat abilities but the dance floor is a different battlefield. It was one that not many are too familiar with, obviously. Most of the students were just dancing their own dance in close proximity with their friends. The closest thing to a paired dance can only be seen by the couples as can be seen by their held hands. Their feet, on the other hand, are more lost than a little child in a big supermarket. They were more focused on not stepping on each other.
There were those who gather close to the buffet table. They would have been around it if there weren't others who also desire something to eat. The food itself was mostly comprised of snacks. Biscuits, cupcakes, pretzels and many others colored the table. As for the drunk, it was a fruit punch. Alcohol would definitely be a problem in a school full of monster hunters, especially if the drunks were the violent kind.
Still, there were those who were sitting rather by the walls. Chatting with friends, taking a break from the dance or asking others to the dance. They were the minority here as most of the seats are still empty relative to the total number of people present by the time team JNPR and the Arc parents arrived.
Speaking of the Arc parents, the pair already took to the part of the dance floor closest to the faculty, some of them joined in.
Nora and Ren followed shortly after. Although it was mostly due to the former grabbing hold onto the latter. That left Jaune, Jeanne and Pyrrha alone.
Seeing an opportunity, Jeanne said, "I'll go grab a drink. Feeling a little thirsty after all those pictures." She quickly left the two alone.
Jaune took Pyrrha's hand, much to the latter's reddening face, and began their own dance. There was a face of surprise on Pyrrha as Jaune was a fairly good dancer. They easily became the best among the student body. Well, Jaune was the one carrying the two on that end.
Filling up a glass, Jeanne took a sip as she enjoyed the sight, it was cherry. She gave them a thumbs up when they glanced at her in another spin.
"I see you have taken refuge here in the snack table." Jeanne turned to her side and was met with headmaster Ozpin, he too was looking at the students. "Giving them the space to dance beneath the moonlight, it is a rather romantic setting isn't it?"
The headmaster did not have a change in wardrobe here, he looked as he had any other school day. He even had his mug with him, but the scent of coffee was absent. In its place was the clear redness of the cherry punch.
"It wouldn't do well to be there when they're having a moment, wouldn't it?" Jeanne decided to converse with the headmaster. He was still interested in her circumstances, that much was clear.
"Indeed," Ozpin replied. "But where are my manners? Ms. D'Arc, may I introduce you to General James Ironwood? He is a fellow headmaster at Atlas Academy."
Jeanne leaned outwards and was met with the stiff figure of General James Ironwood. His outfit screams military. Even if the man's escort was absent, his uniform would give him away. The way he held his hands behind him as though it were natural only emphasized that point. There was a pistol as well, hiding beneath the overcoat that he wore.
His expression and the way he carried himself also speaks of a military discipline. The stern expression on his face was the most natural thing he had on him. There was no doubt in Jeanne's mind that it came about through years of experience and ascending to the rank of general.
"A pleasure to meet your acquaintance." He extended his hand for a shake. He also wore white gloves, it seemed. "You must be Jeanne d'Arc. I am… aware of your circumstances."
Jeanne looked at Headmaster Ozpin. The only other explanation would have been if the General found that video again. He must have a lot free time if that were the case.
"All good things, I assure you, Ms. D'Arc." So it was the headmaster who made that mention. "James here had gotten a little curious after hearing from some of the student body."
Jeanne nodded. There wasn't much to can be said about her circumstances. The novelty of having a sentient semblance must have worn off by now. With how unique many semblances are, it was really only a matter of time for circumstances like hers to happen. Despite that, the world continues on.
The two then had their own little conversation. Jeanne opted out of it, not knowing what to say considering that she was a student in a way here. Instead, she made some distance to a different part of the snack table, drink still filled enough.
She wasn't alone there, for Ruby was there too.
"So," Jeanne began. "You're taking refuge in the snack table, huh?"
"Yep," Ruby replied, there was a pop on the p. "And you got away from the awkward conversation."
"Yep," Jeanne said, also popping the p.
The two just stood there in awkward silence. Jeanne looked to team Jaune and Pyrrha as a distraction. The latter was already getting used to the former and the pair are now dancing naturally. Their only competition came from the other half of team JNPR as Ren and Nora are at least energetic.
Ultimately, it was Jeanne who broke the silence saying, "By the way, you all came as a team?"
"Sort of," replied Ruby. "I came with Yang. Blake was with Sun. Weiss came alone."
"Alone?"
"Yeah. She did ask someone. It didn't go to well. I did ask her if she wanted to go as friends though!" Ruby quickly added. "But she didn't want to."
Jeanne continued with her glass. It is not her place to say. Instead, she continued on with her night.
Finding Weiss was easy that Jeanne didn't really try. She was at the corner, sitting alone. Jeanne couldn't make out much of Weiss' expressions other than miserable. She was looking at something, though. Someone. Following the gaze, it lead Jeanne to a particular pair dancing together. Instincts took over Jeanne and she quickly emptied her drink. Not like that, it would most certainly not go to that. She was certain it wouldn't go there but she wanted to make sure. She is officially a sister now, after all.
Getting through the crowd would prove difficult as most of them have just enough space to give other dancers. If Jeanne really wanted to, she could go around but that would take a longer time. She was about to before she was stopped by a student. He offered his hand, intentions were obvious.
"May I ask to have a dance, milady?" asked a silver-haired boy. "In case I haven't introduced myself, name's Mercury Black."
