"A prehistoric island?" Repeated Oven and Daifuku.
Being now in the cave where Luffy's group had taken up residence, the pair were accompanied by their comrades, as they listened to whatever Law could tell them about their situation.
"Honestly, we were beginning to suspect that." Perospero affirmed. "For example, two days ago we came across an animal that looked like a mammoth."
"Anyway, all the animals we encountered were very strange." Tashigi remarked. "And most of them were very dangerous."
"Haven't you met anyone since you've been on this island?" Shirahoshi asked.
"Nobody." Oven affirmed. "Except for the corpse of the person Katakuri took the trident from! We were starting to think we were the only survivors."
"What enrages me is to see that the helpers still haven't been able to help us. " Daifuku growled.
"Honestly, I lost that hope a long time ago." Law confessed.
"And you?" Perospero asked. "Did you meet other people?"
Startled at this question, Sanji started to light a cigarette. Just like the boy, the other high schoolers knew that Pudding was the sister of the quartet in front of them. And honestly, no one could predict their reaction, knowing his death.
"Huh...yes." Nami affirmed. "We ran into Koza and Apoo! But they died, and so did Kaya."
Hearing that, Tashigi grumbled.
"If only I had been there to help them."
"Honestly, I don't think it would have made any difference." Oven retorted.
"Just..." Nami began.
Watching Oven, Daifuku and Perospero eat a large amount of fruit, while quietly sitting on the pile of leaves that served as a bed for Luffy and the others, the redhead groaned.
"You don't think you're overdoing it a bit?"
Having eaten more of the fruit supply that Sanji had collected, Daifuku retorted.
"Hey! It's been three days since we've eaten almost nothing! We're starving."
"Besides, I saw several bushes full of berries, around your cave." Affirmed Oven. "You can always go get some more."
"Because it's up to us to feed you?" Nami growled.
"To each his own role." Affirmed Oven. "We'll take care of securing the perimeter! And a girl like you can always take care of the household chores."
Immediately, Perospero and Daifuku heard a sound of impact before seeing Oven fall in front of them, with a bump on his head.
"Who else wants to call me a maid?" Nami roared.
"No need to get upset." Perospero affirmed. "But, Oven is right in saying that each of us will have to have specific positions! First of all, if we are to live together, we must agree on the position of leader."
" Luffy is our leader. " Sanji affirmed. "We don't need anyone else."
"No way to be commanded by that jerk." Daifuku roared. "Katakuri is a better leader than him."
"Sorry, but I'm not ready to trust him." Nami retorted. "I haven't forgotten that he is known to be a violent and feisty person."
"He just showed other people that no one should insult our family." Oven retorted.
"I don't know this boy, but I know what Luffy-san is capable of." Shirahoshi affirmed. "I'm glad he's our leader! Right, Law-ssan?"
However, she was surprised to see Law, who seemed to be pensive. Taking his time before answering, Law assessed Luffy and Katakuri's abilities and remarked that the latter might be a better option.
"LAW!" Nami roared, seeing him hesitate.
"It's not a stupid story of children, who disagree on the leader of their band! This is about surviving! Maybe Strawhat-ya is the best candidate, in our group but...if our two groups merge, maybe there's a chance that Katakuri will be better than him."
"And you don't mind saying that?"
"Of course not." Law retorted. "I want to live! Maybe we survived because of Strawhat-ya but...there might be a situation where he's unable to act right and Katakuri will be a better leader than him! I don't choose not my boss because I like him! I pick the best person."
"That's thinking smart." Perospero assured.
Growling, Nami turned to Luffy.
"Luffy, say something."
Having remained silent, Luffy looked serious. Finally, turning to Katakuri, he questioned him.
"What do you think, Kaku-i?"
Simply lying on the floor of the cave, paying little interest in the conversation, Katakuri merely opened one of his eyes, before looking at Luffy. Then, finally, closing his eyes, he shrugged, before affirming.
"I don't care! If you want to be the boss, do what you want."
" What ? " wondered Oven and Daifuku, turning to him. "Why? You're a better leader than him."
"Don't worry." Katakuri affirmed. "If his group has managed to survive until now, it's because he must know how to make good decisions! Nevertheless..."
In an instant, he was back on his feet and the end of his trident was pointing towards Luffy before stopping in front of his throat. Not having even had time to react, Luffy could only stare at the weapon, while Katakuri declared.
"If you do anything that endangers us, I will kill you, Mugiwara."
Immediately, Nami and Shirahoshi backed away in fear, while Sanji and Law took a step forward. For her part, Tashigi gestured disorganized, trying to figure out what to do to calm the situation.
Yet, remaining perfectly calm, Luffy simply looked at Katakuri, while declaring.
"I refuse to play with other people's lives! Even if I don't like your brothers, I will make sure to protect them, if they decide to join my group."
" Saying it is one thing! Succeeding is another thing. " Katakuri retorted.
However, drawing back his weapon, he finally declares.
"For the time being, we will proceed like this! We will see later, if the role of leader should be given to someone else."
" Hey, I disagree. " Daifuku retorted, while Oven nodded.
Without anyone knowing the reason, the two brothers froze as soon as Katakuri turned to them and looked at them with a carnivorous gaze. Seeming no longer to contradict him, the pair backed off, while Katakuri headed for the fruit stock.
"Just fruit? I'm getting tired of eating it."
"You won't be able to find pastries here." Retorted Perospero.
"In that case, I want meat or fish."
"Huh? If you want fish, you have to wait for me to catch some." Sanji affirmed.
" Tsss! As if a guy like you could be useful. " Daifuku growled.
"Do you want my foot in your face?"
"Calm down." Nami ordered. "No need to argue about nonsense! You want to know who's the best? Sanki-kun, you just have to go fishing! And the brothers, go hunting! We'll see if you can find something. "
"Excellent idea." Katakuri agreed.
Then, lying down again, he declared.
"Try to bring me something to eat when I wake up."
Growling, Nami felt like insulting and hitting him. Nevertheless, being afraid of his reaction, she preferred to be silent. For his part, Sanji started to prepare some tools to fish something, while Katakuri's brothers left the cave to try to find something to hunt.
Seeing this, Shirahoshi affirmed.
"I don't understand how a group like this has survived for so long."
"Don't underestimate their brotherhood." Tashigi retorted, looking in Katakuri's direction. "The four of them are a tight-knit group! Since I've been with them, Katakuri-kun has shown good leadership qualities and his brothers give him their full trust."
Hearing this, Luffy just eats a piece of fruit, while remembering Law's words.
" Would Kaku-i be a better leader for our group? "
The next afternoon, Luffy was walking towards the lake, where Law was sitting near the arsinotherium, researching it using his computer.
"Hey, Tra-o!" He called him, giving him a friendly pat on the back of the head.
being at work, while eating a bunch of berries, the boy was startled by his tap and felt a berry get stuck in his throat. Tapping his chest several times, he finally manages to breathe again, and roars.
"BAKAYARO! Can't you call the others normally, like everyone else?"
"Sorry! I didn't expect to see you snacking on fruit! Usually, you always order us to ration ourselves."
" Tsss! It's the first time since we arrived on this island that we can finally eat our fill! For once, we can treat ourselves. "
"Hey! Yesterday you told me I had no right to do this."
"That's normal! I don't want to see you wipe out all our supplies in less than a day! As long as we're stuck on this island, you'll continue to follow the diet that Sanji imposes on you."
" It is not fair. "
Hearing chewing noises, he looked at the rhinoceros who continued to eat berries, in huge quantities.
"Why is he allowed to eat as much as he wants?" Luffy asked, pointing at it.
"It's quite complicated to make it understand to ration itself."
"I can try to get it out of here."
"Leave it alone."
"Grrrr!" Luffy growled, sitting down next to Law. "And you, what are you doing? Are you still looking for information?"
"Yes!" He agreed. "The peaceful behavior of the arsinotherium intrigues me a lot! According to my computer, it should have the same character as a rhinoceros or an elephant when we have fun disturbing it! But this one is quite the opposite! As Sanji noticed, he's gentle as a lamb!
"Maybe it's an error on your PC's part." Luffy suggested, shrugging, before starting to eat berries. "You said yourself yesterday, it was just a database of missing animals."
"Until now, there's never been such a mistake in the encyclopedia." Law retorted, hitting his head with the hilt of his saber. "All the information we know about this island we learned from my computer! And, until proven otherwise, he was never wrong."
"Maybe, but we're still talking about an animal that normally doesn't exist anymore in our time." Luffy remarked, with a bump on his head. "Nothing can be said whether they were nice animals or bad guys."
" It's not hard to guess. " Law retorted. "About these species, which became extinct a long time ago, I believe I know a theory that explains the fact that we are pretty sure of the behavior they used to have."
"Huh?" Luffy wondered, tilting his head to the side.

"You can say that, but it's not always true! Besides, Darwin himself said that..."

Startled, Luffy immediately turned to the arsinotherium and saw that a person was stroking its imposing head.
"Kaku-i? How long have you been here?"
"No idea." The boy told him, shrugging his shoulders.
"What were you saying?" Law questioned him, visibly interested in what the high schooler had just said.
"In Darwin's theory of evolution, it says she can be compared to a person climbing stairs." The high school boy continued. "The closer this person gets to the top, the more he perceives the character of today's animals! On the contrary, if he descends, he reveals the life of beings of the past, establishing links with those of the modern world. "
Again, Luffy felt his brain go offline, as he barely understood what Katakuri was saying.
To tell the truth, many people saw Katakuri as a brainless brute, who used his strength more than his brain to communicate. Just like Oven and Daifuku did. However, he had just shown that his IQ was far superior to Luffy's.
It was for this reason that Luffy decided to go incognito before the duo completely destroyed his brain, making it trip. But no sooner did he turn around than Nami was in front of him.
"Sanji was looking for you." She told him. "He needs you for today's picking."
"Nami?" Luffy wondered. "Is your injury better?"
" Wound ? " Katakuri wondered, turning his gaze in their direction.
"I'm fine." She assured him, twirling her arm a few times. "My shoulder and ribs don't hurt as much anymore! As long as I'm not carrying any heavy load, I should be fine."
Katakuri suddenly walked towards her and surprised everyone, making a misplaced gesture. He took the back of Nami's shirt and ripped it open, exposing her back. Luffy and Nami were so surprised that they didn't react, while Katakuri made a grimace appear on the visible part of his face.
"They are just idiots. " He thought, observing the state of Nami's shoulder.
Nami finally let out a cry of panic and shame, before putting her hands on her clothes to make sure her t-shirt and bra did not fall on the floor.
"Kaku-i, what are you doing?" Luffy roared.
Before giving him time to react, he delivered an uppercut that hit him under his left eye. Yet, much to Luffy's surprise, he didn't try to dodge, protect himself or even counterattack. And, despite the fact that Luffy had hit him with all his might, Katakuri remained still and his eyes showed an amused look.
" He's smiling? " Luffy wondered, despite the boy's mouth being hidden behind his scarf.
"Katakuri, what have you done again?" Someone wanted to know.
Tashigi arrived at that moment and crouched next to Nami.
"What happened, Nami? Are you okay?"
"Yes." The girl agreed, glaring at Katakuri. "I was fine, before this perv decided to strip me."
"As it is, the humerus of your right arm will remain a problem." Katakuri stated suddenly. "Pretty heavy pressure seems to have damaged it! Your member must be firmly attached from shoulder to elbow and remain immobile for a few days, otherwise your condition may worsen in a few days!
Surprised, Law saw that the boy seemed to have made a diagnosis, as a doctor would have. Law had already warned that his shoulder could have been damaged. However, to see this, the boy would have needed an X-ray, to be sure to prove his fears.
After pronouncing this diagnosis, Katakuri left as if nothing had happened, while discreetly massaging the place where Luffy had just hit him.
"What's his problem?" Luffy asked, passing his T-shirt to Nami. "For a moment he acts like a scientist, then like a crank, and finally he plays the role of a doctor."
" One thing is for sure, this guy is far from normal. " Nami agreed.
"I don't think he's a bad boy." Tashigi retorted. "It's just that he had a very good childhood! He comes from a very large family and, because of that, he didn't spend a lot of time with his mother! Besides, he didn't never knew his father! He was also often made fun of, when he was little, and because of that he became very feisty."
"Why was he being mocked?" Luffy asked.
"I'm not sure! Besides, I don't think Katakuri appreciates me telling everyone his problems."
Shrugging, Luffy watched Katakuri return to the cave, while declaring.
"I don't think he can be trusted."
"There, there is one."
A small monkey had just emerged from a bush and entered the field of vision of Perospero, Oven and Daifuku. All three, cowering in the bushes, had been waiting for more than twenty minutes for a potential prey to come to them. After this long wait, he certainly wasn't going to leave their first target unmoved.
"Go ahead, Daifuku." Perospero declared, passing him his bow and arrows. "You do like in practice! You wait until he's still, you aim at him and you shoot an arrow at him! It doesn't matter where it lands! Considering his size, any shot will hurt him enough to allow us to complete it without problem!
"Do you think it's good to eat, monkey?" Asked Oven. "I've never tasted it! It must be said that it never made me want to."
" Anyway, it will be for Katakuri. " Clement exclaimed, drawing the bow, to the maximum, before aiming at the animal.
The animal had stopped in front of the pile of red berries, which the three boys had formed in order to attract their prey.
" Come on, go! Have fun. Perospero mentally encouraged him. " This will be your last meal. " "
But instead of attacking the pile of berries, the animal grabbed a half-eaten apple that Oven had started before throwing it near the pile. Then, he began his meal by crunching into it with full teeth.
" Hey, that's weird. Perospero noted. " He'd rather eat leftovers than fruit that hasn't been half-eaten?" No matter ! And then, he surely chose it because it is bigger than the rest of the fruits. »
Taking advantage of the monkey letting his guard down, Daifuku adjusted his arrow and extended the string, before letting go of the projectile. Unfortunately, the arrow passed six inches above the animal's head, and disappeared into the bushes.
"Damn." Daifuku swore.
"You're even worse than I thought." Oven teased.
"Tssss! Don't act like you're better than me."
"The monkey ran away." Perospero remarked.
The creature, frightened at having been close to death, fled at full speed before finding refuge in a kind of burrow. The three boys immediately came out of their hiding place and rushed to where he had just hidden.
"Lucky." Daifuku enthused, noticing that the burrow was in fact only a single hole about fifty centimeters deep.
The animal, visible from where it was, had therefore become easy prey to kill.
"I'll leave it to you." The blond offered, passing the bow and arrows to Oven.
"I'm going to shoot it down with an arrow." His brother assured, starting to aim at it.
"AHHHHHHHHH! But how are you aiming?"
Raising his head as he stood at the entrance to their cave, Luffy tried to recognize the person who had just shouted and asked that question. being gutting a fish, next to him, Sanji looked in the direction of the forest and asked.
"Didn't Perospero just shout?"
"Now that I think about it, it's true that he went hunting, with his two brothers." Shirahoshi remarked.
"You almost stabbed my foot." Daifuku yelled.
"But what are they doing?" Shirahoshi wanted to know, trying to see them.
"Let them." Sanji affirmed. "They're big enough to fend for themselves."
" I'll see what they do. " Luffy decided, finding a good excuse to stop his chores.
When he joined the trio, Luffy saw Oven, pointing the end of an arrow, towards what looked like a burrow.
"Don't miss it this time." Daifuku exclaimed, as he walked away from his brother.
"And try not to aim at our feet again." Perospero, who had imitated his brother, ordered him.
" Are they trying to catch a rabbit?" Luffy thought.
"I'll get it." Oven assured.
Suddenly, as Luffy just stared at them, he saw a moving figure in the trees surrounding the three boys. Raising his head, he saw, with horror, a whole pack of monkeys resembling enormous black macaques. Each measuring over a meter in length, they all had a hateful look at the trio. They watched them, pursing their lips, and were in position, ready to pounce on them.
" It's not good. "
The three boys, too concentrated on what they were doing, did not even feel the presence of the primates.
" What should I do?" Luffy wondered. " If I scream, his monkeys will jump on them!" But even if I don't do anything, they'll jump on them anyway. "
At that moment, a person passed by Luffy before passing him and heading towards the trio.
" Kaku-i? " Luffy wondered, recognizing him.
Decidedly, wherever Luffy goes, this high school student was never far away.
Ignoring him again, Katakuri simply walked forward, holding his trident in his hand. On the other hand, he seemed to be very interested in the fight which was going to oppose the members of his group to the primates. Knowing him, it didn't take him long to realize his intentions.
" Wait. " Luffy stopped him. "If you make a simple move, they'll..."
Luffy fell silent looking at his eyes. He had exactly the same look as a killer ready to do anything to amuse himself a little, before finishing his prey without an ounce of pity. Beside, the gaze of the diatryma would not even have succeeded in frightening a little girl.
" That guy… " Luffy thought, releasing him without realizing it. " He's really going to do it. »
Suddenly, before he gave the time to stop him a second time, he rushed towards the members of his group.
" He is crazy ! If he provokes these monkeys, he will put his three brothers in danger. »
"Oye, Katakuri." Daifuku remarked, hearing the boy running in their direction.
"What do you want?" Oven questioned, lowering his bow. "Are you coming hunting with us?"
The arrival of Katakuri was the starting signal for the primates who hastened to throw themselves on the boys.
"What?" Perospero wondered, finally feeling their presence, behind him.
One of his opponents jumped on his face and started scratching him, without giving him time to retaliate.
Seeing that the fight had just begun, Mick suddenly twirled his trident, ready to use it. A monkey, which had jumped on Daifuku, had the misfortune to discover the effectiveness of the weapon at its expense. Without any ounce of mercy, Katakuri hit it without restraint and his opponent found itself stopped and with three holes in its abdomen. Seeing it hanging from the end of his weapon, the boy seemed to hold it up like a sort of trophy, before throwing it away with a kick.
Two seconds. It only took two seconds for the boy to kill a monkey as aggressive as a pit bull with the help of his weapon.
Perospero, recovering quickly from his surprise, grabbed one of the arrows Oven had planted beside the burrow and positioned it above him. To her great misfortune, she was placed in the path of one of the macaques, which had dropped in the direction of the boy. Unable to stop, the poor animal was skewered before he even realized what was happening to him.
"What are these things?" Daifuku wanted to know, shielding his face with his hands.
"It's coming from above." Oven told him, trying to fend off a monkey that had clutched his top. "Let go of me, you filthy beast."
Putting his hands at the level of the animal's neck, Oven used his powerful muscles to choke it. Startled, the monkey dropped the boy's clothes, trying to scratch his arms. Unfortunately, rushing on a tree trunk, Oven violently struck the monkey's body against the bark and took advantage of the impact to crush its trachea.
"Stupid monkey." He growled.
Growling in displeasure, the other apes stopped and began to surround the four brothers, while looking for an opening to make a coordinated and more effective attack.
Wanting to get away from the fray a little, one of their assailant ends up noticing the Luffy's presence, while he had not intervened in this fight. Thinking he was harmless, it decided to attack him.
Noting this, Luffy saw it running on all fours towards him and tried to stop it with a kick. Unfortunately, his opponent jumped, to dodge his foot, and threw itself on him. As he fell, Luffy tried to push him away, putting his hands on the animal's head as he began to dig his nails into the skin of its face.
" GET OUT ! "
Around him, having resumed their counter-attack, the number of monkeys played in their favour. Getting attacked from all directions, Perospero, Oven, and Daifuku were quickly overwhelmed by the monkeys, who attempted to knock them down.
Taking advantage of the fact that he was trying to repel one of his congeners, a monkey jumped on Oven's back and opened his jaws, revealing yellow and sharp teeth of more than ten centimeters. Clinging to his future victim's T-shirt, it was about to bite him on the back of his neck.
" OVEN ! " Cried Daifuku.
Suddenly, the monkey's head flew to the side as if hit by an invisible blow and fell to the ground.
Other monkeys around them suffered the same fate and were knocked out by this mysterious devastating force. Noticing that their numbers were rapidly dwindling, the survivors thought fit to give up the fight. They took refuge in the trees to avoid being hit by the cataclysm that fell on them.
"The monkeys are leaving." Daifuku wondered, his head covered in scratches.
"What's gotten into them?"
Mick suddenly appeared in front of them, amusingly throwing and retrieving a dry bean in his hand, while he had a whole bag on him. Just throwing them at the monkeys was enough to knock them out.
Except for one of them, the last primates fled into the trees to join their compatriots. Unable to do anything else, from the top of their perches, they began to utter hateful cries at their attacker. The boy, now having free rein, suddenly jumped back and landed in front of the burrow where his comrades' prey had taken refuge. Without wasting a moment, he stuck his arm in and pulled its host out by the scruff of the neck, before throwing it towards the group of primates. One of them picked it up mid-flight and after making sure the little monkey was okay, gave another cry that sounded the retreat of the macaques. Immediately, one after the other, their adversaries deserted the place, without desiring the slightest revenge.
"They… They're leaving for good?" Daifuku asked.
"I get it." Oven stated. "The little monkey was one of their little ones and they attacked us to take it back! Lucky Katakuri figured it out so quickly."
"Damn macaques." Perospero roared, grimacing, as he touched his face.
On his face alone, he had a deep scratch on his forehead, another below his eye, and a bite mark on his cheek.
"They unleashed on you." Affirmed Oven.
"Geez, all the animals on this island are rabid." Daifuku remarked.
at that moment, Katakuri walked towards them, before standing in front of Perospero.
"Thanks, Kata..." his brother began.
But before he had time to finish his thanks, Katakuri punched him in the face. This gesture surprised him completely and the boy collapsed on the ground.
"Huh?" Daifuku and Oven wondered. "Hey, Katakuri! Are you crazy?"
Concerned only with Perospero, who moaned, Katakuri roared.
"But what were you doing! If you can't even protect yourself, I don't see your use in the group! I remind you that when I'm not there, it's you who gotta make sure to defend the group! Poor crap."
Trying to straighten up, Perospero began to growl. before lowering his head, ashamed of not having properly assumed his role as deputy leader of the team. Not only had he not sensed the danger, but he had also failed to protect the others.
Yet his pride refused to accept that, as he retorted.
"You don't have to talk to me like that! I'm your senior, don't forget that."
" WHAT ? "
"Kaku-i, help me."
Surprised, the four boys looked at Luffy's direction at the same time and could see that he was still fighting. Now hanging on the back of his head, the monkey Luffy was fighting was pulling Luffy's ears.
Gesturing, Luffy positioned his arms behind his head, and also managed to grab the ears of the monkey, who cried out in pain.
So the duo screamed and moved in perfect synchronization.
"Let me go and get out." Luffy ordered it. "Your friends are long gone, so go join them.
The psychopath of his team watched the strange duo they formed and did the one thing no one expected to see from him. He started to laugh.
"Hahaha!" he sneered, pointing at them. "You really are too much of a resemblance in this position! Are you brothers or what?"
Luffy was surprised. To tell the truth, he was so surprised by his gesture that the primate was able to inflict a new scratch on him, without him having time to retaliate. Then, satisfied with this ''victory'', his adversary flees into the vegetation to join the other primates. Katakuri was now doubled over.
"Heehee! I can't take it anymore."
"How are you?" Oven and Daifuku wanted to know.
"What makes you laugh?" Luffy questioned him, passing his hand over the new scratch the primate had just given him.
"Sorry!" he said, trying to calm down. "Sorry about that, Luffy."
" He remembers my first name?" »
"Hey, let's go." He said, to the trio before starting to leave.
Nevertheless, despite the seriousness he displayed, it was obvious that he was holding back as best he could to avoid another burst of laughter.
still being amazed, his two little brothers followed him, as did Perospero, who continued to display a displeased look.
"What is this story again? " Luffy wondered, watching them head towards their cave. " Despite the fact that Ace is athletic and Tra-o is very intelligent, Katakuri seems to be on the same level as them, if he hasn't already surpassed them!
