Elaine and the others were knee deep in danger and felt like they were way over their heads after everything they went through. The enemy had their prize, and our heroes were on borrowed time, literally!
Judge: The charges, sir. I'll hear them again.
Official: Milord. His Majesty's Court contends that the defendants, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, did piratically, feloniously, and in an hostile manner, attack, engage, and take seven certain fishing boats... Secondly, this court contends that the defendants lurked upon the high seas and did set upon, shoot at, and take, two certain merchant sloops, thus putting the captains and their crews in corporeal fear of their lives.
Rogers: Elaine James Kenway. Born of motley parentage in Swansea... to an English father and Welsh mother. Married at eighteen to Mister Carlos Scott, now estranged.
Torres: He is a beautiful man, I'm told. But not at all well these days.
Elaine: If you touch him, you bastards, I'll—
Torres: Quite a surprise finding you here, rotting in a Jamaican prison. We heard rumors that you had taken up with the pirate Roberts.
Rogers: If you know the Observatory's location, tell us now and you'll be out of here in a flash.
Torres: Rogers can hold these British hounds at bay for a time. But this will be your fate if you fail to cooperate.
Judge: ...You, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, are to go from hence to the place from whence you came, and from thence to the place of execution, where you shall be severally hanged by the neck till you are severally dead, dead, dead.
Anne: O rot!
Judge: May God in his infinite mercy be merciful to each of your souls...
Mary: We're pregnant! Do you all hear that?
Judge: What the devil did she say?
Official: They plead their bellies, Milord.
Anne: Aye! You can't hang a woman quick with child, can ya?
Judge: Quiet! Quiet! If what you claim is true, then your executions will be stayed, but ONLY until your terms are up.
Anne: Then I'll be up the duff the next time you come knocking!
Judge: Remove them! As for the matter of Matthias and Pauline Stanhope, I am resigned to heed what their bodyguards are appealing to this august body.
Daniel: Thank you, Your Honor. Countrymen, these twins have wrongfully disobeyed their father by willfully choosing to remain in the service of Lady Antonia Diaz, thus defying a direct order from Prime Minister Stanhope himself! Therefore, I recommend that they return to their father, else they...
Garrick: I think we've heard enough from your tongue, sir. Countrymen, the real villains in this complex novel have disrupted our affairs one time, too many! We, the men and women of the Templar Order have done our best to ensure that order is brought to this chaotic world. Therefore, I must ask that these eight sailors be charged just like the rest!
Kevin: Garrick, so help me, I'll see you behind bars yet!
Garrick: You fool, isn't it clear to you?! This superior mind has triumphed! Just like it was way back in Tulum, wasn't it? I set you up, and you looked foolish.(Read is aghast as Antonia, Matthias, Pauline, Rogers, Torres, and all those present laugh at Kevin even more. He hangs his head down in complete humiliation as Ava, Nathaniel, and the other heroes look at him with worry. Four months after the trial, Elaine was locked in one of Port Royal's gibbets.)
Soldier 1: What's your name, pillock? Kenmore? Conway?
Soldier 2: It's Walpole, ain't it?
Soldier 1: Walpole? Where'd you get that?
Soldier 2: That's the rumor going 'round. As dirty and daft a pirate as ever sailed these West Indies.
Soldier 1: Well, whatever her name, you're to make sure she suffers without dying. Orders from the governor. And back to the prisons at sundown.
Soldier 2: And massage her feet if she's aching, shall I?
Soldier 3: Jaysus, a shit detail as ever was.
Soldier 2: Can't they kill the bastard? Ain't been a good hanging in months, since Rackham got his.
Soldier 3: Eh, hard to understand how it works. I've heard it said they scooped up Captain Vane near a year ago, and he's not seen the end of a rope.
Soldier 2: I can't fathom it. Some men they stretch for days after capture. Others they sit on.
Elaine just couldn't believe that after all she'd been through, she would be a caged bird. Somehow, she needed to set things right. But how?
Elaine: Oy! Hey! Ahhhhhhhh! Oy! Water! Hey! Open this gibbet.
Soldiers: Quiet! Quiet you! Oy! You stop that! Oy! Stop that. Stop your twaddle! This is a warning!
(Ah Tabai assassinated the guards.)
Elaine: Ah Tabai. About Kevin, he... Never mind, we have something to do!(She found Jack Rackham's skeletal corpse in a gibbet.)You weren't much of a friend, Jack Rackham. Nor an able sailor neither. But you were strange and lively, and you made me laugh more than once. And that's enough to make me sorry for seeing you like this. I hope you found a lasting peace, down there, among the dead.
Anne: You spineless cockrobin! Help her, for God's sake. Fetch help, somebody! Mary's ill! Somebody please!
Soldier 6: Hush your pie hole, bloody mick!
Anne: Fuck off, you! Ahoy! My friend's just had a child, and she's... and she's poorly now! Help, somebody!
Soldier 7: Shut your bleeding trap, or I'll fill it my own way!
Anne: English bastards! Murderers! Grown men, the pair of you, standing over a dying lady like she was a piece of meat!
Soldier 6: A dying pirate! There's your difference!
Soldier 7: Aye. If she dies from childbirth, all the better, eh? God carries out her sentence and our hands are clean.
Anne: You bastards! Somebody help!
Rescuing Anne was one thing, but sadly, Mary Read wasn't as lucky. Just like Blackbeard, she too left Elaine once again drowning in loneliness.
Anne: What's happened to Mary? What's wrong?
Ah Tabai: Is she gone?
Anne: Oh, no... Oh, God!
Ah Tabai: What will you do now?
Elaine: Nothing sensible.(Kevin and the others join them)
Ah Tabai: You haven't earned these, but they suit you. Good fortune to you, Miss Kenway.
(Elaine looks at Kevin with scorn in her eyes, and he realizes that she figured out what he'd been through in Tulum alongside Garrick. He also realized that Ah Tabai wasn't happy upon seeing him as well, and angrily stares back at Elaine.)
After suffering the loss of Mary Read, Elaine tried to drown her sorrows. Concurrently, Kevin was doing the same. Problem was, they were eventually going to have some pretty rotten dreams...
Ajax: Kevin! Kevin! Help me!
Kevin: Ajax!(Hearing evil laughter, Kevin looks behind him to see Garrick coming toward him.)No! Ajax! Just a little farther!
Garrick: Gotcha! Trust me.
Ajax: Kevin!
Kevin:No! Garrick...(Laughing wickedly, Garrick morphs into Nina, a feat that shocks Kevin)
Nina: I told you, Kevin. The world doesn't need you anymore. Mwahahaha!(The body then morphs into Theodora)
Theodora: This Golden Age of Piracy is over, Kevin. Give up.(She morphs into her master, Laurens Prins himself)
Prins: Don't you see it yet, boy? You're too weak to resist, and their Order is stronger than ever. There's no use fighting it, boy.
Garrick, Nina, Prins, and Theodora: You lose!
Kevin: No!(He jerks awake, and looks around in a panic.)
Nathaniel: Dude. Focus, dude. Dude. He lives! Hey, dude!
Kevin(groaning): What happened?
Nathaniel: Oh, saw the whole thing, dude. First you were like, 'whoa'! And then we were all like, 'whoa'! And then you were like, 'whoa'.
Kevin: What are you talking about?
Nathaniel: Dude, drunk dreaming just isn't you, you know that? But to be honest, I think it's past time you started thinking about how you're going to fix this situation, don't you?
Kevin: I...
Nathaniel: When your heart and your head are ready, visit the Assassins. I think you'll understand then...
Kevin: But how can I when... Nate? Nathaniel?(He soon spotted Catherine and the others, joined by Daniel and Zachary)Guys, I know what you're all thinking about, and I want to say...
Catherine: Yeah, Nate told us you wanted to say something.
Kevin: I did. It's about what Garrick mentioned earlier, and it's pretty hard to take in. But I feel like I have to admit this all to you...
(15 years earlier)
Ajax: Kevin, you're sure Garrick knows what he's doing?
Kevin: As sure as he is that we'll swipe the riches off of this entire place. Just light the flare, and he'll do the rest.(Ajax lights off the flare, and before long, an army of rogues, thieves, and brigands lays siege to Tulum. Kevin desperately tries to find Ajax, as all around him the Assassins are locked in combat with the invaders. When he catches sight of his friend, Ajax falls, flailing.)No! Ajax!(The invaders emerge from the shadows and stalk toward Kevin. He looks to the side to see more invaders emerging.)
Garrick: Kevin, my man. What are you doing out here, and so...[He grins.]alone? I should thank you, honestly. Wasn't hoping to run off with nothing without some clueless buccaneers helping out.(To his minions)Kill him.
(Kevin finds himself outnumbered as the evil warriors surround him, severely beating him senseless before he runs away.)
Catherine: So, he betrayed you not once, but twice now. But going after him wouldn't bring you justice...
Darius: Rather it would be an act of revenge. And that's something that we cannot accept!(They leave Kevin alone)
Kevin: Can't accept? Ha, if only they knew! What would it prove anyway? It won't change anything. You can't change the past.(He pauses and looks up at the night sky.)You said you'd always be there for me! But you're not. And it's because of me. It's my fault. It's my fault.
Ajax: Now, ain't that a sight for salty eyes.(Kevin turns around and doesn't see a thing)Man, you certainly have changed, haven't you?(Kevin still can't see a thing)Kevin, you have forgotten me.
Kevin: No. How could I?
Ajax: You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Kevin. You are more than what you have become. It's not too late to set things right again!
Kevin: How can I go back? I'm not who I used to be.(He soon sees something in the water)
Elaine: Jaysus, Ava. What the hell happened here?
Ava: You happened here, Elaine. The damage you caused six years ago has not been undone.
Elaine: I'm not an easy man to call a friend, am I? Is that why you're here?
Ava: To fight beside a man so driven by personal gain and glory is a hard thing, Elaine. And I have come to feel the Assassins – and their creed – a more honourable course. Have I been unfair?
Elaine: No. For years I've been rushing around, taking whatever I fancied, not giving a tinker's curse for those I hurt. Yet here I am... with riches and reputation, feeling no wiser than when I left home. Yet when I turn around, and look at the course I've run... here's not a man or woman that I love left standing beside me.
Ah Tabai: There is time to make amends, captain Kenway.
Elaine: Mary... before she died she asked me to do good by her. To sort out the mess I'd made. Can you help me?
Ah Tabai: Mary was fond of you, Elaine. She saw something in your bearing that gave her hope you might one day fight with us.
Elaine: Aye, she told me.
Ah Tabai: And what do you think of our creed?
Elaine: It's hard to say. For if nothing is true, then why believe anything? And if everything is permitted... why not chase every desire?
Ah Tabai: Why indeed?
Elaine: It might be that this idea is only the beginning of wisdom, and not its final form.
Ah Tabai: That's quite a step up from the Elaine I met here many years ago.
Ajax: If she's rethinking her life's strategy, then there's no reason you can't do the same.
Kevin: But don't you remember what we unleashed upon them? What we helped Garrick to achieve?
Ajax: Remember who you are. More than a pirate, and more than a friend...
Kevin: More than a pirate, and more than a friend...
Zachary: Kevin, we've got trouble!
Zoe: A ship just set off from here, and it's headed to Tulum.
Kevin: Why would other pirates leave Nassau?
Catherine: If so, then that's a huge amount of pirates for one single frigate.
Darius: Are there even pirates on that ship?
Kevin(catching on): It's Garrick. He's going to finish what he started!(Everyone else is shocked)But just because we are not like them, doesn't mean we can't aid them. We will defend the innocent without bloodshed, we will be a fog to our enemies, we will uphold the values of truth, justice, and liberty for all, all while hidden from friend and foe alike, and never revealing ourselves to the public! And we shall do so until our last days on this planet.
Daniel: Kevin, you just ran through both the Assassin and Templar rules at quick pace.
Kevin: I know. But history cannot be allowed to repeat itself, and I just can't face Garrick alone.
Darius: Then I'll join you.
Zachary: So will I.
Daniel: I'm in too.(Harrison and Gilbert nod)
Catherine: You're not leaving me behind.
Zoe: Same here.
Kevin: Sentinels, we've got a group to rescue, and a friend in need.(They board the Savior, and with new outfits, chase after Garrick just as his army approaches Tulum)
Garrick: It's almost time, Mentor. This time, you will burn alongside your comrades!(Ava, Nathaniel, and Elaine are beating back Spanish invaders when everyone sees Garrick's army coming at them)This time, Tulum will never rise from the ashes of desolation! Attack!
Elaine: So, that's how he invaded Tulum in the first place.
Nathaniel: Captain, I don't think we can take those odds, even if we had the crew with us!
Kevin(OS): Then why don't we lend a hand, right Captain?(Everyone turns around to see the newly minted Sentinels coming to join the fight)
Elaine: I didn't think you'd come here.
Kevin: I never thought you'd be here.
Elaine: What made you come back?
Kevin: I finally got some sense knocked into me, and I've got the bump to prove it. Besides, I failed to protect this place before. I am not willing to do so again!
Catherine: HEY, Garrick's getting away!
Kevin: Let him, he's on the hitlist as far as I'm concerned.
Ah Tabai: You have strength and spirit. And once more you have our thanks, Elaine. You are welcome here.
Elaine: Thank you, sir. I'll rest here a time before setting out, if I may.
Anne: Elaine...
Elaine: I'm sorry for your loss.
Anne: If I'd stayed in prison, they'd have taken him from me. But he'd now be alive. Might be this is God's way of saying I'm not fit to be a mother yet. Carrying on like I do. Cursing, and drinking, and fighting.
Elaine: You are a fighter, aye. In prison, I hear stories of the infamous Anne Bonny and Mary Read, taking on the King's Navy together. Just the pair of you.
Anne: It's all true. And we'd have won that day if Jack and his lads weren't passed out in the hold from drink. Ellie... everyone's gone, aren't they? Mary. Rackham. Thatch. And all the rest. I miss them so, rough as they were. Do you feel that too? All empty inside, like...
Elaine: I do. Devil curse me, I do.
Kevin: Look, I know we've been on the wrong foot before this, but...
Elaine: Kevin, you're not the only one whose bad dream led here...
(A few minutes later)
Kevin: Ouch. This ain't gonna be pretty. But don't you worry, okay? Things will work out. We started this thing together and that's how we'll finish it. I promise.(Elaine looks at Kevin and the others, and smiles for the first time)
