From the diary of Princess Higurashi Kagome of Musashi
Date: seventh day of the first month of summer. Year XXXX.

.

Our days at the keep have started to develop a pattern. We gathered for a small simple breakfast with the two lords and that was the only time we met Lord Sesshomaru, who is quite elusive for the rest of the day.

Rin has thrown herself into her self-appointed task of tending to Roku and entertaining him. She spends hours in his rooms and the healer seems to enjoy her company as well, since her cheerful manner makes the convalescent take more heart in his predicament.

I have taken to spending my time reading in the library, but on occasion Lord Inuyasha finds a while to keep me company. Spending time with him is certainly a splendid way to pass time, since he refuses to discuss all the boring topics men usually force in the conversations with ladies. He prefers to talk about wild forests and traveling through uncharted lands. He knows a thousand and one tales about animals and trees, wonders of nature, and the lovely sights that his lands have to offer. When he talks about them with that gleam in his golden eyes, I curse the poor weather that prevents me from asking him to take me to see at least some of those places he holds so dearly to his heart. He is not a courtier, but there is raw honesty about him and whatever he does he gives it his all attention and effort.

And, when I am with him, I feel as if I'm not the princess of an ancient family who has been schooled in manners and poetry, unable to wander across the mountains. I forget about my uneasiness from the encounter with the blue light and it is only when I am back in my room in the evening, alone, when I remember that disembodied laughter and dancing light.

Oh, gods, as I turned my thoughts again to that light, it came back. My hand trembles as I'm writing this, because the light just passed down the corridor outside my room. It was bigger tonight, but also there was no sound accompanying it. Only the wind whistles outside and throws raindrops against the walls and windows of the keep.

I went to bed and slumbered fitfully, my dreams plagued with shadows that stalked me through the darkened keep. I ran from them until I stumbled upon Lord Inuyasha, who slashed at the shadowy figures with a hand armed with sharp claws.

This morning I woke up groggy and tired, but so much more relaxed than since the first night I saw the light.
