A few days after helping Willow and nearly a week after she'd became the unofficial mother of six Camila was starting to get a bit worried about luz and her "friend" Amity. Ever since she got here, she'd been switching between nervous to timid to goofy whenever Luz was around, which was pretty much all the time. In fact she could probably count on one hand how many times she'd seen one without the other.
I know I said I'd wait but curiosity is killing me. I mean whenever I try to simply talk to Amity it always starts off good but whenever the conversation veers to Luz her face goes red and she starts talking about how special she is before realizing what she said and hastily excusing herself. And Luz is no better always coming up with some excuse to avoid the topic
With Ghost currently in her lap happily having it's head scratched she thought for a moment. "Tell me Ghost did my little mija find someone special in your master."
Ghosts only response was to let out a contented purr before turning on its back. "You're lucky your adorable."
Turning her head to the window she saw the kids out in the garden. It still amazed her that magic was a real thing. "To think yesterday that area was little more than weeds and dirt and now it's filled with budding seeds and a slightly worrying carnivorous plant… with teeth and reach. But then again Willow did say that she'd train it not to attack anyone and promise to keep anything dangerous to the farthest corner." Hunter was there as well watering a small sunflower he'd asked Willow to grow. It was still adorable how embarrassed he'd been after she'd told him he was now a "proud plant parent." Now any time Willow was working her magic Hunter was always there willing to lend a hand. Then there was Gus who had become addicted to studying the "mythical possum" that lived in the neighboring tree. Hearing faint footsteps she turned her head just in time to see Luz and Amity both looking nervous and holding a laptop. "Mom we…I kind of need to show you something."
"Of course Luz." She said already knowing what was about to be told.
She took a breath before pressing play which brought the screen to life displaying various adorable pictures of the two of them. It might have only lasted a minute or two but in the end it showed a big picture of the two of them proudly proclaiming that Luz was bisexual. "Allow me to properly introduce my girlfriend Amity Blight." She shot of her seat and happily crushed the confirmed pair between her arms. "Luz I'm so proud of you. My little girl has a girlfriend! And she's so adorable." From within the loving embrace Luz gave Amity a kiss whispering "I told you she'd love you." Which was quickly followed by Amity loudly purring.
When she finally pulled back, she turned her attention to the laptop seeing all the pictures once more.
"These are amazing Luz, especially this one with you in a suit, or dress, both?"
"Yeah, I kind of couldn't decide my grom outfit so just combined what I could find."
"Grom? Is that a witch event?"
"Sort of Camila, you see it was originally an event to battle a ancient demon. However over the centuries it became a dance where the king or queen is chosen to battle the demon to keep it sleeping for another five years."
"Oh, well you two still look beautiful. Is this where you two started dating?" This one question sent Amity into a spiral of questions
"Dating!? No! well maybe… I.. maybe possibly thought… Luz just was so cute… and the queen dance we had…" Camila had to resist the urge to record the adorable moment of Amity's adorable freak out while Luz seemed to realize something. "Wait a minute, I was the one you wanted to ask to grom?"
Amity silently nodded making Luz groan. "uhhhhh I hate it when Eda's right. Now her teasing makes sense. The entire flight back it was "Enjoy you dance with your queen Luz." And every time I mentioned hanging out with you, she'd say "I expect to be invited to your royal wedding."
"My siblings weren't any better. I think they figured out I was crushing on you before I did. Even helping me write the letter although they kept trying to get me to witch up and ask you myself."
As they talked Camila enjoyed the sight of the young couple and thought about what they'd said. Such an adorable pair they complement each other so well. I would have loved to see this grom event. Wait a minute Amity said the queen was chosen to fight the demon but they were both queens….
"Luz did you have to fight an ancient demon?"
Luz's eyes shot open before looking to Amity silently asking for a response, but Amity was to worried about upsetting Camila.
"Kind of, you see originally Amity was chosen but I kind of volunteered and after a slightly rocky start we combined our powers to defeat it. Even created a giant tree that I was planning to take us to for our first date."
"Our first date at our own magical spot." Amity managed coving her face to hide her expression.
Camila rolled her eyes but had more questions. "Alight but answer me this. How long have you two been officially dating?" she then focused on Luz. "And just how fare has it progressed. Answer me honestly mija."
"Mami we've only kissed once I swear!" she then thought for a moment. "Wait does a cheek kiss count?" she asked Amity who after a moment answered in an timidly cute voice. "A kiss is a kiss."
"Okay then two kisses and I think it's been…."
"In twelve hours it'll have been exactly thirty-two days since I asked you out."
"She asked you out?"
"No I was working my way up to it when she beat me to it. She even beat me to our first kiss."
"I couldn't help myself. My brave knight rescuing me from my room and promising me to take me out on a perfect date. My body moved on it's own. But you have to admit it was pretty romantic."
Luz blushed and uttered the words "crikey" before a screech was heard followed by "it was only playing dead!". Seconds later flashes of magic were seen given Camilla a opportunity. "Luz, do you think you can handle that. Preferably before someone needs a rabies shot. Amity and I need to have a conversation."
"sure" she managed before mouthing a I'm sorry and grabbing a broom before rushing outside. Once alone Camila began her questions.
"So Amity do forgive my motherly curiosity but I need to know what you think of my Luz."
She fidgeted for a bit trying to find the right answers. Seeing this Ghost shot from her lap and over to the laptop pointing at the pictures. "Ghost she already knows she makes me happy. She makes everyone happy. She'd kind and happy and always willing to help even if she doesn't think it through." Ghost then scrolled to the grom picture of their private dance before meowing.
"Ghost! Only I can call her my knight."
"You call her your knight?"
"Well normally I call her batata, but only because the only book I could find that had Spanish turned out to be a cookbook. Honestly, I just love having her in my life. Before I met her, I was a completely different person. Looking back I think that meeting her was the best thing that ever happened to me. She gave me the courage to break the metaphorical and sometimes physical chains she put on me my entire life. Without her my siblings wouldn't have learned that there was more to our relationship then pranking me. Even dad learned that he had to step away from work and put in effort." She handed the young girl a tissue as she went on. "Dad seemed to like her and said she was welcome at Blight manor any time, and Edric and Emira seemed to really like her. Even if it just means they can tease and embarrass me to her."
She's mentioned her father and siblings but not her mother. "Forgive me for asking this as I'm starting to think it's a sore subject but what about your mother." In seconds Amity went from nostalgic and hopeful to angry and hurt. "I know longer see Odalia Blight as my mother. She was happily involved with Belos and selling him weapons. At least when dad found out he was horrified and tried to destroy everything but she was angry that we weren't grateful that she'd assured a future among the emperor's chosen. She never approved of anything I did! Even when I told her I was dating Luz she simply said that she'd find me a better girlfriend. One more worthy of my status as she put it."
The next thing she knew she was being hugged by Camila as Ghost rubbed its head against her cheek.
"Don't think about that cariño, think about how much fun you and Luz will have on your first date. After all didn't she promise you one after the day of unity?"
"But the portal…"
"Can be set aside for one day. Or as we say a watched pot never boils."
"Luz said the same thing until she saw the autoboiler two thousand." She said a smile forming. "She even said that now she can't use that saying. She was so cute as she quickly tried to think of one."
Glancing back to the computer and to the slightly chaotic formal wear she got an idea. "Luz was never one for dresses. Only wearing them after being forced and even then she took it off the moment we ever got home. I have some pictures of her just a year ago if you want to see."
"Can I really?"
"Of course cariño. Maybe the two of us can encourage her to wear a dress for your first date." Camila offered her hand and Amity happily took as Camia led her up to her room where she showed her a photo album of Luz as a child and Luz with long hair wielding a sword followed by her favorite. Luz stood there wearing a dark purple dress with a flowery design along it. She had a slight frown on her face as she held a bouquet of flowers.
"That was her last year at one of my friend's wedding. They needed a spare flower girl. Of course Luz only agreed to do it because I promised her at least twenty dollars' worth of ice cream."
Amity couldn't look away. She's so beautiful, would she wear a dress like this to our next grom?
"I really am happy that she found someone like you Amity. She'd never had the best luck when it came to friends. It makes me happy knowing she has such wonderful friends and as she would say an awesome girlfriend like you."
"Thanks Camila but I'm the lucky one. Even if I've only known her for a short while I honestly can't imagine my life without her. I used to see school as just another place to excel at but now it's one more chance to hang out with her. And who knows maybe in a few years after we graduated and move in together, she'll be the one to propose first. Humans tend to use rings, right? She'd mentioned diamonds but also something about birth stones which sounds pretty cool." Camila let her ramble for a few minutes enjoying listening as Amity fantasied about their future. " I'll probably be on my way to being a coven head after it's reformed of course and she'll probably become a teacher at Hexside teaching everyone about glyph magic. Oh we could get married at our special spot. It will have to be perfect which means having a talk with Edric and Emira and she'll probably want the Owl lady to over see it, but what about human customs!"
By the time she looked at Camila who was wearing the most loving motherly smile she'd ever seen her face went the deepest red it had ever gotten making her shut down. Camila happily scooped her up.
"You are just precious! Now you have to marry Luz because I don't think I'll accept anyone else as my daughter in law. Now that does beg the question on your family name. Amity Noceda does have a nice ring to it but I wouldn't be opposed to Luz Blight." Whatever willpower Amity had left her body when she heard "Amity Noceda" and her mind repeated one thought before she practically fainted out of happiness.
I'd be Camila's daughter! She'd be my mother in law!
