CHAPTER 12. PARTY PREPARATION
Saturday, October 25th
Hermione Granger headed off to Hogsmeade with her dormmates on Saturday afternoon to go Halloween shopping. The five of them talked and laughed the whole way.
"What are everyone's costumes going to be?" Fay asked. Lucie squealed.
"I'm going to go as a dead princess," she said striking a pose. Everyone laughed.
"Parvati and I are going to be basic and go as an angel and a devil," said Lavender linking arms with Parvati. Parvati grinned.
"Naturally I'm the angel and Lavender's the devil," said Parvati winking.
"Gin and I are going to be matching but we haven't really decided on what we're going to be, that's why she's joining us," explained Hermione. "What about you Fay?" Hermione asked. Fay grinned.
"I'm going as Poison Ivy," she said. Parvati and Lavender gasped.
"That sounds amazing!" exclaimed Lavender. Parvati clapped her hands together.
"I love it!" said Parvati. Lucie groaned.
"Why did you tell me, I could have been the Harley Quinn to your Poison Ivy," she complained. Everyone laughed.
"You could still change costume," Hermione offered. Lucie shook her head.
"No, I really want to be a dead Sleeping Beauty," she said grinning. "I feel like it fits my personality better," she said winking. Everyone laughed.
"It sure does sweetie," said Fay grinning. When they got to Hogsmeade they were met by Ginny and Luna. The girls split up and Hermione, Fay, Luna and Ginny went off to buy Halloween candy.
"So Luna, do you have any costume ideas?" Fay asked. Luna smiled and shook her head.
"No not yet, I'm just waiting to see if any inspiration comes," she explained. Hermione had an idea.
"Oh Luna, why don't you go as Harley Quinn to match Fay's costume, she's going as Poison Ivy," Hermione explained. Fay's eyes lit up. Ginny gasped.
"That would be amazing if you could do that Luna," said Fay grinning. Luna grinned.
"Sure, I would love to," replied Luna.
"You're going as Poison Ivy that is so original!" exclaimed Ginny. "We need to step up our game," she added to Hermione while nudging her. After shopping for sweets, Hermione and Ginny went off to go by their costumes.
"So what were you thinking for a costume?" Hermione asked Ginny. Ginny shrugged.
"I don't know, we could be pirates, vampires, cheerleaders, policewomen, nurses, anything really," said Ginny. Hermione grinned.
"I like the idea of pirates or policewomen," said Hermione. Ginny grinned.
"We'll see what we find then," she said and the two girls went into the costume shop.

Hermione and Ginny entered the Three Broomsticks and went to sit with Harry and Ron.
"Hello you two," said Ron grinning when the two girls sat down.
"How was the shopping?" Harry asked. Hermione and Ginny grinned.
"It was brilliant," said Hermione.
"And you two are going to the Halloween costume, and you will dress up and you will like it," added Ginny grinning. Hermione laughed.
"I'm not dressing up," grumbled Ron crossing his arms.
"Oh yes you are," insisted Ginny. "You are dating miss Lavender, a Halloween freak," she said. Hermione grinned.
"You know how much this means to her, you have to go, " said Hermione nudging him. Ron rolled his eyes.
"And you have to come with me Harry," Ginny said looking at Harry and flashing him a smile. Hermione grinned as she watched Harry roll his eyes and smile at Ginny.
"Great, now that you two are definitely coming we can show you our costumes," said Hermione.

Hermione made her way back to Hogwarts earlier as she wanted to get some work done before dinner. She went to the Head Boy and Girl Common room and unlocked the door. It was empty. Hermione sighed with relief.
She sat down at her desk and worked on her Transfiguration essay. Hermione had been working on her essay for a couple of hours when she was startled by the sound of a key being jiggled into the lock. She turned around as the door opened and her eyes met Draco Malfoy's. He seemed taken aback to see her but then shut the door and walked to his desk without saying a word. Hermione rolled her eyes. At least he hadn't insulted her. The two of them worked silently on their assignments for about half an hour. Hermione looked at her watch. 6:25 pm. It wasn't quite dinner time but she was struggling to concentrate. She decided to jot down her final ideas on a separate piece of parchment and give herself a break. She started packing her stuff and rearranging her books in the order she would need them for her coming classes.
"Will you be going to the Halloween party?" asked Draco Malfoy from his desk. She turned to look at him. He had his legs kicked up on his desk and he was looking at her while playing with his wand. She frowned.
"Yes," she replied simply. No response. "Why?" she asked, turning her back on him and putting her books into her back. She looked at him over her shoulder. He shrugged and took his feet off his desk, turning back to his work.
"No reason," he said simply. Hermione thought the conversation was over. She grabbed her stuff and had almost closed the door when she heard "see you there." Hermione shut the door and paused. Had she really heard that or did she imagine it she asked herself? She shrugged and walked off to the Gryffindor common room. When she got there she went over to Harry, Ron and Ginny.
"Hey, Hermione," said Harry grinning.
"Hi," she replied grinning back. "Hey, Gin, could I talk to you really quickly?" she asked. Ginny frowned.
"Sure," she said standing up and following Hermione out of the Gryffindor common room. The two girls headed down a random corridor. "Is everything ok Hermione?" Ginny asked. Hermione nodded.
"Yes, everything's ok," she replied. "It's just Malfoy," she admitted. Ginny frowned.
"Do you want me to hex that little ferret," she said sternly, but she was grinning. Hermione laughed.
"No, no, that won't be necessary Ginny, he hasn't done anything wrong," she assured her hot headed red head friend. Ginny wiggled her eyebrows and mimicked hexing someone. This made Hermione laugh.
"Then what is it?" Ginny asked. Hermione shrugged.
"That's the thing, I'm not really sure," Hermione admitted frowning. "He asked me if I was going to the Halloween party," said Hermione. Ginny raised her eyebrows. "But he was being nice about it," added Hermione shrugging. ginny acted shocked.
"Did you just say that Draco Malfoy was nice to you, Hermione Granger?" she asked astonished. Hermione nodded and laughed.
"It's weird isn't it," she replied. Ginny nodded. "Do you think he's up to something?" she asked her friend. Ginny shrugged.
"I have no idea," she replied. "You can never know with him," she added. Hermione nodded.
"This has to be the strangest interaction I've ever had with him," Hermione said to Ginny.
"Well from what you've said he has been acting out of character this year hasn't he," said Ginny. Hermione nodded.
"Do you think it's because I testified for him and his mother after the war?" Hermione asked. Ginny shrugged.
"Who knows," she replied simply. "As long as he doesn't try anything funny, I'll leave him alone," she said grinning. Hermione laughed. The two girls went back to the Gryffindor common room but Harry and Ron weren't there.
"They must have gone down to dinner already," suggested Hermione, looking at her watch. It was 6:46 pm, a bit before dinner. Hermione and Ginny headed down to the Great Hall for dinner.
"Over here," called Harry waving them over. The two girls sat down next to Harry and Ron.
"Where did you two disappear off to?" Ron asked. Ginny just shrugged and grinned.
"Oh you know, we just walked around the corridors and gossiped," she said grinning. "Talking about Halloween and all that," she added. Ron pulled a face.
"How boring I thought something had happened," he said.
"Nah, just girl stuff," insisted Ginny winking playfully at him. Ron rolled his eyes at her. He then turned to Harry and the two boys resumed their conversation about quidditch.
"Thank you," Hermione mouthed to Ginny. Ginny grinned at her and mouthed back.
"You're welcome," suddenly noise erupted from the Slytherin table and the four of them turned to look. The Slytherin table had broken into song and they were singing happy birthday.
"Who's birthday is it?" Ron asked.
"Daphne Greengrass'," Ginny replied. When the Slytherin's finished singing everyone in the Great Hall clapped. Dinner time rolled around and nothing eventful happened. They ate and talked.
"Quidditch practice tomorrow?" Hermione asked. Harry, Ron and Ginny grinned.
"You bet!" said Ron.
"You're going to come and watch aren't you Hermione?" Ginny asked. Hermione pulled a face and shook her head.
"Sorry Gin, I really should get ahead on my homework and revision," she said. "Besides it's getting colder and I don't want to sit there for two hours while my toes go numb," she added grinning. Ginny rolled her eyes but laughed.

After dinner, Harry, Ron and Hermione went to Hermione's Head Boy and Girl Common room to study a bit.
"Do we have to work, it's late," grumbled Ron. Hermione sighed and glared at him.
"Do you want to fail your exams, Ronald?" she asked sternly.
"No," muttered Ron hunching over his book. The three of them studied for Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts until 9:45 pm. Hermione shut her book.
"Right, that's enough for tonight do you think?" she asked. Harry sighed and lay on the floor and Ron shut his book grinning.
"I thought you would never ask," he said grinning. Ron got up from the floor, stretched and walked over to the record player that was by the chimney and put 'This is a kind of magic' by Queen on.
"Oh yes!" exclaimed Harry jumping up and grinning. He leant down and held out a hand to Hermione, which she took grinning and he helped her up. The three of them danced and laughed as the record player played song after song. She danced with both Harry and Ron in turn. Harry spun her around a lot and Ron nearly tripped them up a couple of times. Then she fell about laughing watching her two best friends have a dance battle. They were attempting the most ridiculous dance moves and they looked utterly ridiculous. They then did some karaoke, and it wasn't good in any way shape or form. Ron was bellowing the lyrics to 'Don't stop me now' by Queen while Harry and Hermione were hooting with laughter and clutching their sides. Then Hermione sang 'My heart will go on' by Celine Dion while Harry and Ron did a pretty dramatic reenactment of Titanic. Then Harry sang 'Another one bites the dust' by Queen while pretending to be Sirius Black which made Ron and Hermione hoot with laughter even more. After a good 30 minutes of fooling around the three of them decided to turn off the music, pack up their stuff and head back to the Gryffindor common room.
