Chapter 26
That morning Addison and Derek were having breakfast in her kitchen, trying their best to be quiet so they wouldn't wake 'the happy couple' as Addison kept referring to her mother and her boytoy. Derek tried to keep quiet because he was beyond nervous to be meeting his girlfriend's mother.
"Good morning, oh, Addison, waffles, really? Do you think you will ever find another man who—" When Addison groaned in annoyance Bizzy looked up, her eyes landing on Derek who had debated whether he should just hide behind his girlfriend but had decided against it when he had thought about how old he was.
"Derek Shepherd, Beatrice Forbes, my mother. Mom, this is Derek." Addison introduced, quite amused at the uncomfortable expression on Derek's face.
"Derek being?" Bizzy walked towards him and extended a hand that he shook, growing more uncomfortable when she kept mustering him.
"My boyfriend." Addison frowned for a moment. Boyfriend? At her age it was probably life partner? She wasn't sure, maybe significant other?
"Well, you really are very handsome." Bizzy still hadn't let go of his hand and Derek looked over at Addison, his eyes silently begging her to save him from this situation.
"You sound surprised, mother." With this Bizzy turned towards her daughter and let go of Derek's hand.
"It just seems very sudden, you haven't mentioned you were seeing someone. But then again you had never mentioned dating Christopher until he showed up at our door and drunkenly announced that he was in love with our daughter but that we had messed her up so badly that dating her was so very infuriating." At this Derek rested his hand on Addison's back, causing her to give him a grateful smile before Bizzy continued. "Tell me, Derek, is dating her just as infuriating now?"
"Don't answer that." Addison said quickly. "I'm not infuriating. Now let's drop this."
"Afraid of an answer, dear?"
"You're not infuriating to date. I'm sure you never were."
"Don't be so sure." Addison told him in a whisper, grateful he hadn't told her mother how infuriating it was to date her. "So, mother," she continued and turned towards her mother again, "there will be about twenty-five kids here in about two hours, so if you don't want to be here for that…"
"Eduardo and I have another engagement this morning but we will be back in the evening to celebrate Grace's birthday."
"Of course." If she were honest she wouldn't want to be around for the kiddy party either but being the mom she kind of had to. At least at the mom who tried very hard not to be like her own mom.

"So you've survived meeting Bizzy Forbes." Addison commented when it was only the two of them, by now busy decorating the house for Grace's big birthday bash.
"I have… I still can't believe that was your mother."
"Try that being your mother. Sometimes I can't believe it either. At least she hasn't told you that you could be doing better than me."
"Maybe she will tonight." Derek laughed and pulled her closer when she rolled her eyes. "If she really thinks that and ever thought that then she obviously doesn't know how amazing you are." And with this he kissed her softly.
"Thank you." She whispered against his lips, pulling away from him when she heard the doorbell. "God, please don't let it be one of the kids just yet."
"SAVVY!" Addison squealed loudly as soon as she had opened the door.
"ADDIE!" Another squeal and Derek felt himself catapulted right back into his childhood with his four very loud sisters.
"Oh and he's still just as dreamy." Savannah grinned at Derek, who was trying to keep his balance on the chair he'd gotten up on to hand some decorations. "Come on, I'm sure Bizzy has already hit on you, you must be used to it today." She laughed, causing Derek to look just a little more embarrassed.
"It's good to see you again." And he was pulled in a hug as soon as he'd gotten down from the chair.
"So I guess you're the reason she finds the city of endless rain bearable."
"You are making Seattle sound like it's way worse than it really is." Derek tried, noticing the look on Addison's face. "It's not that bad, come on!"
One and a half hours later Addison had picked up her daughter and all of Grace's friends had arrived. Grace was beyond thrilled while Addison, Derek and Savannah stood in a corner, the women with a mug containing wine and something Derek had been sure was scotch (which they kept denying) in their hands. Every time it sounded like something was dropping on the floor Addison visibly flinched, hoping it was nothing too expensive and annoyed that this might mean she really was becoming her mother.
When the doorbell rang excitedly screaming children made her way towards it, barely waiting for Addison to open it to reveal Mark Sloan standing there. While Addison raised her eyebrows at him, a suspicious look on her face Grace yelled "Dr. McSteamy!" And hugged him tightly.
"Birthday Princess!" He picked her up and she squealed in delight.
"What are you doing here?" Derek asked, rather amused as to why his best friend had showed up much earlier than any sane adult would. Grace was busy telling her friends about how Dr. McDreamy and Dr. McSteamy worked in the hospital with her mother.
"No hot moms here, huh?" Mark groaned when an amused Derek shook his head and an annoyed Addison only gave him a look. "Oh, hello there." He grinned when he saw Savannah who looked him up and down with a smile on her face.
"Married." Addison told him.
"I can't catch a break here, can I?" He sighed and leaned against the wall next to Savannah. "Mark Sloan."
"Savannah deForest." She shook his hand, once again looking up and down. She might have been married but looking never hurt anyone.
"So you're not one of the hot single moms here?"
"I've told you there are no hot single moms, they all drop off their kids and then leave." Addison told him like she had already told him before but handed him a cup and pointed at the scotch and wine behind them. "Derek thinks we're being irresponsible here."
"Of course he does." Mark laughed, deciding to skip the wine and fill his cup with scotch when they heard the doorbell again. In the past Addison had been very annoyed at how loud it was but now they could barely hear it over all the kids, the music and the sound of something breaking every now and then. "Maybe my luck is turning around and some moms decide to join this party."
"Angie! Chris!" They could hear Addison the moment before they heard an excited Grace squeal: "Grandma! Grandpa!"
Savannah glanced over at Derek, noticing how uncomfortable he looked because it seemed like he knew that Addison's parents in law were at the door.
"Grandma, grandpa, this is Dr. McDreamy," Grace pointed at Derek, who looked like the earth should just be swallowing him whole right now as he shook the hands of Grace's grandparents, "and this," she pointed at Mark, who looked much less embarrassed being introduced this way, "is Dr. McSteamy." But then again Mark also wasn't meeting his girlfriend's parents in law.

Two hours later Mark's wish finally came true and at least a few available single mothers picked up their kids while Addison, Derek and Savannah were just very relieved to have gotten this afternoon over with without any casualties.
"I see the only way to survive these parties is still the same." Angie laughed softly when she had picked up Addison's cup by mistake.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that." Addison smiled sheepishly. She looked over and saw her father in law talking and laughing with Derek and Mark.
"Football." Angie guessed and shook her head. "How are you doing, sweetheart? You look much better. This city seems to be good for you." She told her softly, her hand resting on Addison's arm.
"Uhm, better…"
"You don't have to feel guilty about doing better, Addie. We're all doing better and I'm very happy to see that you are as well." She had been very worried about her son's wife because no matter how hard her son's death had been on her it seemed like it had been even harder on Addison.
"It's just… I don't know, maybe I've had too much of this disgusting mix of wine and scotch that's made this many kids bearable."
"It's hard to admit that you are doing better? At least it is to Chris and me, I'm guessing? Because it shouldn't be. We're both so happy that Chris got to meet you and spend so many happy years with you." This brought tears to both of their eyes before they hugged.

That evening at her "grownup" birthday party which had caused Grace to point out that the next year she would be hosting a fancy dinner party and expected everyone to put on their best clothes she could barely keep her eyes open. Addison had told her that she could go to bed because her guests would understand but Princess Grace had insisted on staying up even though staying up looked an awful lot like falling asleep in her mother's arm on the sofa.
"Looks like someone has enjoyed her birthday party." Addison smiled at her father in law who sat down next to her. "Or has she been drinking whatever it was you girls were drinking while pretending it was coffee?" He laughed at the look on Addison's face.
"Wow, you really think I'm a terrible mother, don't you?" She laughed quietly as well once she had gotten over that caught expression on her face. She hadn't thought he had seen that.
"You've known me long enough to know that I think you're a wonderful mother. She worships the ground you walk on, a whole lot like our son." At this and the sad expression on his face Addison rested her hand on his, careful not to wake up Grace in the process.
"I'm so sorry for moving so far away from you." She whispered and it really had broken her heart to tell them that she would be moving to Seattle with Grace.
"Don't be. Angie still can't go into his room and he hasn't been living in there forever. We can imagine how you must have felt in this city where everything was reminding you of him. Don't ever apologise to us for doing anything to get you to feel better."
"God, I always told him how lucky he was to have parents like you guys." They were so much unlike her own parents. Angie and Chris had been warm and loving and had welcomed her into their family in a heartbeat.
"We're your parents too." He told her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"So, Derek," He turned around, Mark and Preston quickly excusing themselves when Angie had come up, "my granddaughter calls you Dr. McDreamy, doesn't she?" She looked very amused, especially at the embarrassment that washed over his face. "Oh, it's sweet when a kid says it."
"Unfortunately it's not just kids." He mumbled.
"Mhm, she's mentioned it's your nickname at work. I'm guessing not one you appreciate very much. But I'm sure you don't mind Addie calling you that." Angie smiled softly when she saw the surprise on his face. "Mothers always know. The way she looks at you makes it very obvious. And I wanted to thank you." Again, surprise on his face. "You seem to be making her very happy and she had been so miserable before she's left New York. She's a wonderful girl and she deserves to be happy. Addie has always been like a daughter to us because I don't think anyone could have made our son this happy. So, thank you, Derek. Because you've brought that happiness back to her." With a last smile she left a stunned Derek behind.
"So, you really are married?" Mark asked when he sat down next to Savannah, who just laughed and held her left hand up before pointing at her wedding ring. "Very unfortunate."
"I know, right?" She said flirtatiously and he looked at her in surprise. "I'm kidding, I love my husband." She laughed and he nodded his head.
"So, that lady with the young guy is Addison's mother?" Preston looked a lot more freaked out than anyone should at a kid's birthday party when he joined Savannah and Mark.
"I don't know about mother, but that's Bizzy." Savannah nodded, laughing when she realised what was going on. "Let me guess, she's hit on you?" When Preston nodded she rolled her eyes. "She always does that, don't worry."
"Don't worry about what?" Addison asked when she sat down at the table with them when she had brought Grace to bed with Angie and Chris before they had called it a night as well.
"Bizzy hitting on all the boys."
"Oh geez." Addison groaned, glad her mother and Eduardo had decided to stay at a hotel, probably worried everyone else wasn't ready to leave the 'party' just yet.
"Don't worry, Eduardo thinks you're really hot." Savannah shrugged.
"What?!" Both Addison and Derek said at the same time, both looking at Savannah, who only laughed.
"Please, she is really hot, why lie about it." Mark grinned smugly at the way Derek only huffed and wrapped his arm around Addison.

Addison was glad that Mark, Savannah and Preston had helped her and Derek clean up most of the house before Preston and Mark had left, Savannah had decided to sleep in the guest room after all since there was no possibility of running into Bizzy the next morning.
So now Addison and Derek were finally close her bedroom door behind them.
"Thank you for today." She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. "You really are my McDreamy."
"Not you too." Derek laughed softly but kissed her back because he really didn't mind Addison calling him that. Soon their kiss turned passionate when her tongue found his, the low moan that left her lips enough to make him press her into the door ever so softly, his hands trailings up her waist, just a bit underneath her t-shirt. Just when Addison had started unbuttoning his shirt there was a quiet knock on her door followed by Grace's sleepy voice, "mommy?"
Addison closed her eyes for a second, her forehead resting against Derek's when he had pulled back before she turned around to open the door. "Honey, mommy really needs to get laid…" she mumbled, making Derek laugh before she opened the door.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"Am I too old to sleep in your room now?" Grace whispered sleepily, her stuffed zebra in her arms, and looked up at her mother who only shook her head.
"Come here, we still have to get ready for bed though, okay?" When Grace nodded Addison wrapped her arms around her daughter and carried her over to the big bed before Derek and her went into the bathroom to brush their teeth.
"I'm sorry about that." She told him but he only shook his head and pecked her lips.
"Don't be, the birthday girl gets what the birthday girl wants."
"Oh, I'll have to remember that for my birthday."
The next morning Addison woke up with Grace in her arms and Derek's arms wrapped around her tights from behind, his nose buried in her hair. She smiled to herself when she slowly and kind of reluctantly opened her eyes only to find Grace awake as well.
"Finallyyyyy." The girl sighed dramatically. "I can't believe you sleep this long."
"Shh, honey, Derek is still asleep." Addison whispered and ran her fingers through her daughter's curls.
"Maybe I really am too old to sleep in your room." Grace huffed and let herself fall back on the bed.
"You can go wake aunt Savvy up." Addison told her, which made Grace grind widely before she left the room, skipping down the stairs.
"You are satan." Derek mumbled in her hair.
"I prefer Ruler of all that is Evil." She laughed softly and turned around to look at him. "And I thought you were still asleep?"
"Just woke up. Good morning." He gave her a smile before she leaned in to kiss him.
