...
That was Tsukauchi. How had he gotten here? Izuku had come without any backup and the police should have been local. He wanted to take Stain down himself for what he did to Keigo. Sadly it didn't appear that at this time it would be possible.
Stain glared hatefully at the detective but a blast of wind from the Wind Spirits kept him from engaging. Unable to move Izuku would still do his best to protect Tsukauchi. Even if he was still unsure about where they stood.
Stain vowed coldly, "If you interfere with my work again, Kaze I will kill you."
Izuku wordlessly snarled back at the man even as he disappeared into the shadows. Two shots rang out but missed the villain. Stain was gone. Tsukauchi swore violently and Izuku wondered if he would be left on his own. Then he heard the detective holster his weapon and come to his side.
It was almost comical to see the detective kneeling by his side. His injuries weren't severe thanks to Tsukauchi's timely arrival. Gentle hands propped him up and he was able to meet the dark worried eyes of his soulmate. Izuku was surprised to see the concern and fear in the gaze.
Tsukauchi asked, "Where are you injured? Can you move?"
Izuku grunted, "Can't move until the quirk wears off. It's just a shallow cut to my chest and a stab through the shoulder. Nothing that won't heal."
"I need to get you to the hospital," muttered Tsukauchi as he picked Izuku up like a small child.
Izuku squawked indignantly, "Put me down! I am not a child!"
"Kid," Tsukauchi scolded, "You are 12."
"I'm not a kid!"
This argument likely would have continued if they weren't interrupted by more police and ambulances arriving. They took one look at them and began firing off questions. Tsukauchi handed him off to a paramedic who then took him to the ambulance.
Typical question were asked. On autopilot Izuku answered him as he waited for his body to return to him. The paramedic seemed almost relieved that Izuku couldn't get away. He was probably used to heroes trying to avoid help. Cough cough Eraser.
Stitches to his chest were quick and easy. The stab wound had to be flushed out as well as cut around. Serrated blades did not make for easy stitches.
By the time the stitches were done he was able to move again. The paramedic insisted he wait for Tsukauchi who was still talking with the local officers. Izuku grumbled and griped under his breath but didn't make a move to leave. He hoped that this wouldn't be Round 2 of their last confrontation. He didn't have the energy to fight with the man again.
So on the back of the ambulance he waited watching the detectives. They were trying and failing by the looks of it to catch onto Stain's trail. It was useless at this point. Stain would be long gone and there was no way he would be caught by such amateurs.
In his pocket his phone buzzed:
Chicken: Hey kid, I'm out of the hospital now. Where are you?
Nugget: When did you change my name back? Keigo I'm going to murder you when I'm back in town.
Nugget changed his name to Kaze
Chicken: But Nugget! Wait you're trying to distract me! Devious little nugget. Where are you?
Kaze: Oh look at the time. I have to go.
Chicken: Kaze!
He shut the phone knowing he would get hell from the hero later. The overgrown chicken was too protective over him. Izuku could take care of himself thank you very much. Finally Tsukauchi was allowed to return to him a deep frown marring his face.
Unable to stop himself Izuku asked, "What is it?"
Tsukauchi said tiredly, "Another set of drug dealers were out tonight. They killed four officers and a hero is in the ICU. It's uncertain if he will make it."
Izuku winced, "I'm sorry. I know the police are close knit."
Tsukauchi whisperer honestly, "Thank you. What about you? Do you have a place to go tonight?"
Izuku shrugged, "I'll probably spend the night in a warehouse before returning to Musutafu. There is no chance that Stain will stick around after tonight."
"No," denied Tsukauchi immediately causing Izuku to narrow his eyes in anger, "You can come home with me. At least there you can rest easy and be warm."
Izuku opened his mouth to argue then closed it again. Staying with the detective shouldn't be tempting. They only recently came to an agreement he should still be mistrustful of the man. Yet a part of him wanted to go with Tsukauchi.
"I'm not letting you leave alone, Kaze," Tsukauchi said darkly.
"Izuku," he said before he could stop himself.
"What?"
"Call me Izuku."
