Author's Note: Here we are, the events of the Season 1 finale. It's been a long while since I've begun this chapter, and now, we're here much later than I hoped. Still, thanks to popular demand, we are here.
Before we begin, I'd like to make an announcement. Now that I have reached this point in the story, I'd like to reveal that I plan to make another Kipo crossover story. Me and a friend, Lord Zeppelin, have brainstormed this idea. It will be another retelling of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, but instead of Sonic characters, we will feature DC characters. More on that later. I don't know when I'll begin, but I thought I should tell you. So keep an eye out for my upcoming story: Kipo and the Age of Justice.
I have two songs featured here. One of them is "I Can Do That For You" from Sonic Underground. The second is "Purple Jaguar Eye" from the original Kipo show.
I hope you enjoy this chapter. I don't know when I'll upload the next chapter. Maybe not for a while. But I will continue. I promise.
Any and all comments are welcome.
Kipo had presented the freshly opened can of tuna for the Timbercats as soon as they arrived with Pierre the giant flea. Yumyan accepted it which pleased the Underground.
"You kids have been making lots of noise since we last saw ya." Molly Yarnchopper said. "Word around town is that Scarlemagne's sending every bad mute in the city after you. We also heard you took out four crews with explosive nectar. I'm impressed, but it's not enough to take you through the Mega-Dog field."
"It's the one thing we absolutely cannot do." Yumyan said. "We are Timbercats, which means we don't go near dogs. It's kind of an ancient rivalry thing."
"Oh, come on. Everything we're looking for is in that field." Sonic said. "Can't you throw us a bone?"
"That's for dogs. And again, not our thing." Yumyan said.
"We've been waiting for you guys for a whole hour." Sonia said. "Surely, there's something you can do."
"Did you at least find the Tornado that I left at the old human burrow?" Tails asked.
"The idea didn't cross our minds, kid." Molly said. "And even if it did, I really doubt that little plane can fit all of you. I'm surprised it carried the original fewer of you."
Kipo's eyes turned to Pierre and she smiled. "Could we borrow Pierre?"
"Yeah. That, we could do." Molly said.
"Um, excuse me, Molly! We are not loaning them Pierre!" Yumyan protested.
"They opened the tuna can and you ate it." Molly reminded. "You know the rules."
"He'd get dog slobber on him. It would take weeks to get that stench out. And I just gave Pierre a bath."
"Um… Mr. Yumyan?"
Yumyan looked down to see Cream looking up at him with big, adorable eyes. Yumyan was instantly drawn to them.
"Can we please use your flea?"
Yumyan wanted to keep saying no, but Cream's eyes kept him from going through with it. In just a matter of seconds, he gave in. "Doh! Just… make sure you bring him back to me in one piece."
"Thanks, dude." Manic said.
"Way to bring out the cute eyes, Cream." Amy congratulated.
As soon as Kipo Underground turned to the giant grass, the Timbercats turned as well to leave. But after taking a few steps, they were stopped by another Timbercat. The littlest kitty rushed over to them.
"Yumyan! Molly!"
"Shoelace?" Yumyan asked. "What are you doing out of the forest?"
Shoelace breathed for a second before answering. "I just got word from our scouts! Scarlemagne's coming! He's personally leading a whole force of primate mutes to this general area!"
"What?" Yumyan gasped. He and Molly turned their heads to the Mega-Dog field right when Kipo Underground entered with Pierre.
"If he's coming here," Molly said fearfully, "That must mean he must know the kids are here! They're in danger, and they don't even know it!"
"What do we do, Yumyan?" Shoelace asked.
Yumyan turned back to the little kitty with determination on his face. "Bring me a radio. Arbor will want a piece of this."
Of course, not everyone could fit on Pierre's back, so Sonic, Tails, Cream, and Cheese traveled beside Pierre while the rest rode on him. Dave foolishly blew on dandelion puffs which got the mega-dogs excited. Caution to the wind, Kipo Underground made a mad rush across the field.
Pierre leaped from one place to another while also slipping out some dog blood. Tails, Cream, and Cheese took to the air flying beside him. Meanwhile, Sonic hopped from one giant blade of grass to another. All the while, they were trying not to get crushed by the mega-dogs. During the chase, Kipo did her best to keep their attention to the invisible clover-shaped mark they were trying to get to.
As soon as the team managed to lose the giant dogs, they reached the clover. Once they were off, Pierre jumped away from them to return to the giant dogs.
"Bye, Pierre!" Kipo waved. "We'll come back for you!" She turned and found herself surrounded by all the marked grass blades that could only be seen through her 3D glasses. "We're here!"
"We're here?" Sonia asked. "Finally?"
"So what do we do now?" Benson asked.
"Look for the entrance to my burrow." Kipo said quickly turning her head around. "I don't know what it looks like, but it's probably hidden. So look for something you can't find."
"Kipo?"
That came from a voice unfamiliar to most of the Underground, but it was a voice Kipo knew all too well. She turned to find her father, Lio Oak, standing before her in a great state of disbelief. Kipo shared his surprise.
"Dad?"
With great joy and pride, the father and daughter rushed over and took each other's embrace. He spun her around glad to have his daughter back. Both let out tears of joy as they looked at each other again.
"It's you." Lio exclaimed.
"I followed your clues." Kipo said. "They were hard to follow."
"Well, I had to make sure no one else could follow them." Lio said.
"Well, you did a good job of that."
"Wow." Sonic said. "So you're the famous Kipo's dad, huh?"
Lio let out a soft gasp at the sight of Kipo's friends, mainly the three hedgehogs in front. "Sonic? Sonia? Manic?"
"Hold up! You know us?" Manic asked.
"It's been a long time." Lio said. "Actually, there's someone here who'd like to see you even more than I do."
The insinuation was obvious, which left the triplets in disbelief. They looked behind Lio just in time to see a smaller figure covered in a hooded outfit. Everyone knew who it was even before she removed her hood. Aleena revealed her face and her eyes were dripping with the happiest tears.
"Are you…" Sonia asked hopefully, a sentiment shared with her brothers.
Aleena dropped to her knees and reached out her trembling hands. She stroked the heads of her long-lost children nearly letting out sobbing sounds from her mouth.
"After all these years. Finally, you're here. Sonic. Sonia. Manic. My beautiful children."
The triplets instantly jumped at their mother giving her the biggest hug from each of them. She returned the hug stretching her arms around them as far as the could and as tightly as she could. Everyone else watched in admiration. Even Wolf couldn't help but feel the heartwarming moment before her.
After slowly breaking the hug, Aleena turned her smile toward Kipo. "Thank you, Kipo. I owe you so much."
"You know me too." Kipo said.
"Sweetie, Aleena's an old friend of the family." Lio said. "She met you when you were just a baby, same way I met her kids."
"Did you know my mom too?" Kipo asked Aleena.
"Of course. She was my best friend." Aleena said.
"We have so much to tell you." Sonic said.
"And so many questions to ask." Manic said.
"We'd better get underground first." Lio said. "That goes for everyone. If you're with Kipo, you're with me."
"Thanks. Can't wait to see this new burrow." Tails said followed by Mandu's happy squeals.
Little did they know that up above the field, Scarlemagne was looking through a set of spyglasses scanning the while area. He stopped just when Kipo Underground, Lio, and Aleena were in the middle of climbing down an open manhole cover.
"Magnificent work." The mandrill said setting aside his glasses.
"Thanks, sir." Fang said.
"I was talking to me. Now, let's discuss the matter of your companion, Bean."
"You heard him, buddy." Fang said to his duck friend. "Time for some demolition."
Bean smiled before pulling out a bomb. "Kaboom?"
"Yes, Bean. Kaboom." Scarlemagne answered before letting out a maniacal laugh.
Everyone climbed down the ladder and made it to the bottom of the sewer drain. Sonia was disgusted by this, but even that was overshadowed by the joyous feeling of finally meeting her mom.
"I can't thank you all enough." Lio said. "Kipo is everything to me. And you brought her back."
"Same thing with me and my children." Aleena said.
"The pleasure is all ours." Benson said.
"Yeah. We'd pretty much do anything for our friends." Tails said.
"I understand why." Lio said before giving his daughter a big hug.
"Dad! We already hugged!"
"It was only once."
"He's definitely Kipo's dad, all right." Amy said. Following everyone as they walked along the tunnel.
"So were you kids living alone out there?" Lio asked.
"Well, not all of us." Sonic said. "I was raised by Uncle Chuck."
"And I was raised by Lady Windermere." Sonia said.
"Dave, Benson, and I always had each other's backs." Manic said.
"And for the record, I qualify as an adult." Dave said. "At least, until I molt again."
"And there's also Wolf." Kipo said. "She was totally solo before we met, but she's, like, a superhero. She's definitely the toughest person I've ever met."
"And Tails is always gonna have my back." Sonic said. "He's the little buddy I'd never exchange."
"And lastly, we have Cream, Cheese, and Amy." Sonia said. "Amy's quite skilled with her mallet and is kinda like a big sister to Cream and Cheese."
"Chao, chao." Cheese exclaimed.
Aleena gasped as Cheese floated around her. "You actually have a chao with you?"
"You know what he is?" Tails asked.
"He's kinda like a little pixie." Aleena said. "That's the best description I can give you."
"So Dad, I gotta know, what happened?" Kipo asked. "Our burrow got attacked. I got washed to the surface. And that's about it."
Lio frowned. "After we separated, Hoag lead everyone to this burrow, a place I didn't even know about until we had to evacuate. I needed a way to let you know where to find us, so I radio'd Aleena."
"He told me just what to do." Aleena continued. "The number on the billboard. The map. The glasses. Once I set everything up, I joined up with Lio and waited for you kids here."
"So you know how to identify a parsec too?" Kipo asked excitedly.
"I'll be honest. I thought it was some kind of code between you and your dad." Aleena chuckled.
The walk ended when Lio approached a wall. But before he could do anything, he took one last look at the gang. "Um… Before we go, no one in our community has seen mutes or surface people before. So there may be a period of adjustment. So try not to spook them."
"We'll be on our best behavior." Sonic assured.
Lio pulled out a handheld radio and talked into it. "This is Ram's Horn. I've found Aries. Requesting entry at the west access shaft."
"Lio? Is that you?" asked a man on the other end of the radio. "And… Ram's Horn and Aries? Did you just give yourself and your kid a code name?"
"Yes, I did."
"Didn't I warn you the council won't authorize any surface trips until the burrow is secure?"
"Hey, look, Hoag, I had to go up, for Kipo. You have to understand."
"Who's Hoag?" Manic asked.
"He's kinda one of the council guys who run the burrow." Kipo said. "Not exactly the friendliest guy, but he's not a bad guy either. He just gets a little overcautious."
Suddenly, the concrete wall opened up revealing a secret passageway. The gang entered the passage and came out the other end entering the new burrow.
"Welcome to Site B." Lio said letting everyone bask in the sight of the new hideout.
Everywhere they turned, it was several subway trains stacked on top of each other filled with other humans. It was all lit up by blue light to make it more beautiful.
"Our last burrow went 50 years without a breach." Lio said. "Site B was kept secret, even from me. It was only just opened yesterday."
"I always said sunlight was overrated." Dave said. "Hello, burrow life."
As they passed by, the humans they crossed widened their eyes fixing them on the brand new faces, especially the mutes.
"It's just like the one I grew up in." Kipo said. "A big, comfy hole in the ground. What do you think, Wolf?"
"There's so many people." Wolf said.
"Kipo!"
"Look! You're here!"
Two kids ran out of the crowd to happily greet Kipo, who seemed elated to see them too.
"Asher! Dahlia!"
"You're okay!" Dahlia cheered. "Wait, are you okay, Kipo? You look okay."
"You're alive. As in not dead, alive!" Asher said.
"Can you believe we had to move burrows?" Dahlia asked. "We were in a dark tunnel for a week! It was cold. There were smells."
"Oh, you won't believe the things I've seen." Kipo said.
"I wanna hear all about them." Dahlia said. Her attention was then drawn to the rest of Kipo Underground, particularly Wolf's cloak. "Whoa! Is that what you wear on the surface? It is so cool! It's like a snuggle blankie!"
"It is not a snuggle blankie. Never call it that." Wolf warned.
"Don't mind her." Sonic said. "Wolf gets pretty stubborn about her possessions."
"Asher, he talked!" Dahlia gasped in surprise. "The blue porcupine thing just talked!"
"Hey! I ain't no porcupine, lady. I am a genuine hedgehog." Sonic said. "The name's Sonic, and I… NO WAY!"
All of a sudden, Sonic rushed at lightning fast speed across the crowd. He stopped only at a food cart as the vendor had a chili dog in his hand.
"Cool! You sell chili dogs too! They're my favorite!"
"Whoa!" Asher cried out. "How did you do that?"
"Oh, you mean my speed?" Sonic asked. "That's just a benefit to being the fastest thing alive."
"That's really cool!" Asher yelled excitedly.
"I like this kid." Sonic said.
"Whoa, look! A surface human!" another citizen said coming close to Benson. "What's it like up there?"
Before Benson could answer, he slipped backward opening up his backpack in the process. His music player slipped out right at the feet of another boy. The music player played hip-hop music which the new boy picked up to admire. Benson stood back up, but as soon as he saw the face of the boy, he gasped. He couldn't help but admire how he looked. He felt his own heart skip a beat. All he saw was him in a pink background and he just heard romantic music.
"Wait. Is that Oz the Originator?" the boy asked.
"How do you know about Oz the Originator?" Benson asked. "He's only, like, my favorite old world MC ever."
"Our last burrow had a pretty decent music library. But I've only heard this song of his."
"Well, fortunately for you, I may have an album or two of his."
The two exchanged great, big smiles which Manic noticed. Even he was able to connect the dots and decided to help his friend out.
"Sup." Manic greeted. "I'm Manic. This here's my friend, Benson."
"Well, nice to meet you." The boy said. "My name's Troy."
"So you guys can really talk?" another burrow human asked Sonia.
"Oh, we do a lot more than that." The pink hedgehog answered. Just then, she felt a surprise touch. She quickly turned around and kicked the hand away.
"Ouch!" Hoag yelled out rubbing his hand.
"Don't mess with my hair." Sonia said.
"I didn't realize this was your hair." Hoag said. "Look, there's a whole lot of you and we don't exactly have infinite resources."
"They're fine, Hoag." Lio said. "They actually helped save Kipo's life."
"Riiiiight." Hoag said. "So what did you all mean when you said you do more than just talk?"
"Is it to do with the extra tail on this one?" Asher asked admiring Tails' extra tail. "It's really endearing."
"Oh, you guys are going to love this." Kipo said. "Sonic, Sonia, and I are already in a band."
"What have you been up to in the past ten days?" Dahlia asked.
"Could you play us something? Please?" Troy asked. Some of the other humans wanted to hear a song too.
"Well, why not?" Sonic asked. He, Sonia, and Manic held out their medallions which flashed into real instruments. The sight of it made everybody surprised, especially Aleena.
"The medallions. They're activated."
"Ready, guys?" Sonic asked.
"Born ready." Kipo said pulling out her guitar. She played her music along with the hedgehog triplets.
Sonic:
When there's something that you hunger for
And you need to satisfy your appetite
I can do that for you
Sonia:
When you need a little sunshine in your life
I will be your ray of light
I can do that for you
Manic:
When you need that somethin' special only I can provide
Just call my name. I'll be right by your side
'Cause…
Kipo Underground:
I can do that for you
I can do that
Anything you need, I'll come runnin'
I can do that for you
I can do that
Just call the number and you'll see me comin'
Kipo:
No matter where you are in the middle of the night
I'll be the one who comes to always make it right
Kipo Underground:
I CAN DO THAT FOR YOU
I CAN DO THAT
ANYTHING YOU NEED, I'LL COME RUNNIN'
I CAN DO THAT FOR YOU
I CAN DO THAT
JUST CALL THE NUMBER AND YOU'LL SEE ME COMIN'
I CAN DO THAT FOR YOU
I CAN DO THAT
I CAN DO THAT FOR YOU
I CAN DO THAT FOR YOOOOOOUUUUUU
The burrow humans cheered at the end of the song. Hoag's daughter, Doag, stepped up to admire the musical performance dreaming she could dance to it. Her father pulled her away before she could have the chance.
Kipo turned back to see her father clapping proudly next to Aleena. "Hey, dad, while I was out there, I found something of yours." She reached into her pocket and gave him his guitar pick which he loved.
"My lucky guitar pick! This was a gift from your mother."
"And now, I'm gifting it back to you. Oh, and this too." Kipo handed him the sack she's been carrying all this time. Lio looked concerned and peeked inside seeing the Chaos Emerald inside.
"You still have it. Did you… learn anything?"
"A bit more than I expected from Angel Island." Kipo said. "Yet, it doesn't feel like it's enough."
"You've been to Angel Island?" Aleena asked.
"Yeah. The guy there had a bit of an acquired taste in friends." Sonic said.
"Mother, can I ask you a question?" Sonia asked.
Aleena smiled at her daughter. "Sonia, I've been wanting to talk to you for thirteen years. You can ask me anything."
Sonia frowned. "Why did you give us up?"
The question made Aleena frown too. "I didn't want to. Believe me, there is nothing I want more than for us to be a family. But… There are evil forces out there, people who want to hurt us. The Oracle told me that the best way to ensure we would all be safe is if we went our separate ways. He even told me where to leave you guys where you'd be safest… at least, until the time is right."
"You mean the prophecy?" Sonic asked. "Yeah, we know about that too. We also know that's also why Scarlemagne is after us."
"Scarlemagne?" Aleena gasped. "You met him?"
"No, but he definitely knows us." Manic said.
"He wants us so he could manipulate the prophecy for himself." Sonia said.
Aleena frowned again. "That's… just a bonus for him. There's another reason he wants you."
"What?" Sonic asked. "What other reason is there?"
"You see…"
Suddenly, something interrupted them. A rumbling sound was heard and the entire tunnel shook. Everyone gasped and stayed together.
"Amy, what's going on?" Cream asked.
"I don't know, Cream." Amy said keeping the bunny mute close.
BOOM!
Half of the tunnel was filled with explosive smoke and debris that scattered around the place. One large chunk of it was on a collision course with Kipo and her father. She closed her eyes prepared for the worst.
When Kipo opened her purple eyes, she found herself surrounded by a fog and a starry sky. She heard upbeat music coming from all around her. Kipo turned to find her dad playing on his guitar while walking along a giant chord. He was carefree as if he didn't even notice he was on a narrow ground.
"Dad?" Kipo asked, but her words were unheard. But she could hear Lio singing.
Lio:
There's a valley of Mega-Dogs over our heads
And we're none the wiser like a wise one says
Hiding in the rocks, below the dirt
Life among glow worms where nobody gets hurt
That's when Kipo noticed where she was standing. She was on the face of a giant guitar. As she carefully observed her surroundings all confused, she could see that all her friends, human or mute, danced along the chords too. Even Aleena was there singing her own verse.
Aleena:
Always have a meal like cave moss lasagna
'Til late one night, there's a boom and it's gone, yeah
Shocked from our senses when the Earth crashes in
Something's going on underneath your skin
"Hey, guys," Kipo said, "I feel something!"
"I feel it too!" Benson said. "I feel the beat!"
"Does anyone know how we got here?" Sonic asked.
"Sonic? You're confused too?" Kipo asked.
"Of course, I am. First, there was an explosion. And the next second, I was here!"
"Me too!" Sonia said.
"That makes three." Manic said.
"Then why are you still dancing?" Kipo asked.
"We don't know." Sonia said. "But I think we're all experiencing the shared dream."
"But why?" Kipo asked. All of a sudden, she got hit by a strange, invisible force hitting her head. Lio kept singing after that.
Lio:
Oh, purple jaguar eye
Open up and be alive
See the world in vivid color
There's no turning back
Aleena:
You've got all the love you need
To run sure-fotted, newly freed
Oh, purple jaguar eye
Look at what's ahead for you and me
Mandu emerged to join in on the dance, but she was a hundred feet tall. That's when a flash of purple lit up in front of Kipo. Once Kipo's eyes adjusted, she noticed the purple Chaos Emerald that hovered in front of her.
"The Chaos Emerald?" Kipo asked. "But what does this have to do with me?"
As if answering her question, the glow from the Chaos Emerald reached out and surrounded her. She closed her eyes for some instinctual reason, and when she opened them up, she had purple cat eyes. That's when meteors began to rain down from above.
Lio:
Playing a guitar with claws on your fingers
Leveling up from scorpion stingers
It feels so good, though inconvenient
It never goes down the way that we meant
Still covered by the Chaos Emerald's light, Kipo held out her hand against the big meteor that was coming straight towards her. Once it transformed, she was brought back to reality.
"Whoa!" Sonic said finally waking up surrounded by debris. "What was that?"
"And why aren't we dead?" Manic asked.
"Um… I think that's why." Sonia pointed at Kipo. Everyone around her stared at her lifting the giant slab of concrete with only one arm; a giant, purple jaguar arm.
"What is this?" Kipo asked as her friends stepped out from under the slab.
"It's happening." Lio realized. "Sooner than I thought it would, but it is definitely happening."
Kipo threw the slab away before realizing what her dad said. "Dad, you knew about this? What am I? You have to tell me!"
"Not yet." Aleena said. "We're in danger. Look!"
The giant hole at the top of the tunnel was swarming through with giant flamingos. On their backs were several ape mutes. The humans tried to run, but it was all in vain. By the dozen, burrow humans were snatched from the ground and carried out of the hole. One flamingo flew so close to the gang, that some of them got separated trying to dodge it, specifically Lio and Aleena.
"Dad! Aleena!" Kipo gasped.
"Come on!" Wolf yelled pulling her and the hedgehogs away.
"Wolf, we can't stay here." Kipo said looking at her giant jaguar paw. "I have a weapon. I have to use it."
"You mean go out there and fight?" Wolf asked.
"That's our thing, right?" Sonic asked. "Sonia, Manic, and I have the laser instruments. I have the speed. Wolf, you have the survivor skills. Kipo has the arm. Mandu has the cuteness. We may have a fighting chance here."
Wolf smiled. "You don't have to ask me twice."
Flashing out their instruments, everyone jumped out and fought against the apes on flamingoes. Kipo's strong arm helped her against her own, but when she found herself surrounded, Mandu built an opening for her when biting a leg. Kipo punched out the rest. Sonia leaped up and karate kicked any ape that she found while Manic played on his drums shaking the earth so much, a rock shot out from the ground and knocked flamingos out of the sky. Sonic increased his momentum by running across the subway cars. Once he built up enough speed, he jumped up into the air and dashed his attacks right at the apes' heads one after another. When everyone did their part, they all huddled back together.
The sound of battle was having an additional sound. Piano music played and everyone turned to the source. There was a flamingo that was decorated with a car, and in its driver seat, Scarlemagne laughed as he made his entrance. Wolf quickly pushed her friends into hiding.
"What are you doing?" Kipo asked.
"No. We cannot go out there." Wolf said. "That's Scarlemagne."
"That's Scarlemagne?" Sonic asked. "He's a lot more rainbow-faced than I imagined."
Once Scarlemagne touched down, the Hooligans appeared approaching him with two prisoners. One was Lio, and the other was Aleena.
"Dad." Kipo gasped.
"Mother." Sonia had the same reaction.
"We caught these two for you, sir." Fang said. "Unharmed, just like you demanded."
"Excellent!" Scarlemagne cheered. "Look who it is. My old pal, Lio. How are you? I do so miss your visits."
"Hugo. It's been a long time." Lio said.
"Oh, I go by Scarlemagne now. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think? So never mention that other name again or I'll have you stuffed!" His eyes turned to Aleena and he smiled. "Aleena. You have no idea how happy I am to see you."
"Wish I could say the same." Aleena replied.
"Now, now. Let's not get testy." Scarlemagne said. "After all, I've got big plans, especially for the lowly humans you've foolishly allied with. You see, I'd like them all to join my army. But we've still got some things missing. I'd like to know, where are those little bundles of joy of yours? You do have a daughter, if I remember, Lio. Must not be any older than Aleena's kids, right? I'd like them here too."
"They want nothing to do with you! Leave them out of this!" Aleena demanded.
"They only want nothing to do with me because you never told them about me. About the main reason why I want them with me. Sure, that silly prophecy is a nice gesture, but even without it, I really want to be with Sonic, Sonia, and Manic. After all… What kind of father wouldn't want to be with his kids?"
After hearing that, the hedgehogs all had the exact same expressions of complete surprise. The same looks were shared with Kipo and Wolf.
"Wait. What did he just say?" Wolf asked.
"Father?" Manic asked. "What's that nutcase talking about?"
"It's impossible. He can't be… Can he?" Sonia asked with uncertain noting Aleena's shamed frown.
"Oh, don't be so down, my dear." Scarlemagne said. "I promise, I'll treat those three little beauties right. They will want for nothing."
"You'll never find them!" Aleena cried out.
"Ooh. Making it a game." Scarlemagne said. "Fine, more fun that way. Hooligans, search the area."
"You got it, boss." Fang said. "Bean, Bark, leave the old man and the lady to the birdies."
Bean and Bark obeyed. Lio and Aleena were carried up through the hole above.
"No!" Kipo yelled out. But as soon as she came out of her hiding place, she found herself surrounded by more flamingos, and the kids were not in a good place to fight back.
"Now what?" Manic asked.
"I'm thinking. I'm thinking." Sonic panicked.
The flamingo-riding apes came closer, but a new sound caught everyone's attention. A high-pitched scream came as a figure fell through the hole. Miraculously, he stood up unharmed revealing himself to be a brown-furred coyote mute wearing a blue jacket uniform. As soon as he saw Scarlemagne who looked back at him, he whimpered before pulling out his sword.
"Stand back, fiend." He said in a French accent. "Surrender now, or you shall face ze wrath of I, Antoine D'Coolette!"
Scarlemagne let out a chuckle. "This is the big rescue."
"No, mousierre." Antoine said. "Zis is!"
Suddenly, a large van jumped overhead and landed straight down. It landed on its wheels just as the back doors popped open. What popped out what a tall, yellow rabbit mute wearing a pink shirt, a brown jacket, and cowboy hat. But the most discerning part about her was her left arm and both of her legs, which were made entirely out of metal.
"Rotor, you drive and I'll shoot!"
"Whatever you say, Bunnie!" said the walrus mute who was driving the fan.
As the van drove around, the one called Bunnie aimed her metal arm, which shot out a purple electric blast. When it hit one of the flamingos, the electricity coarsed throughout its whole body and the ape that rode on it. They both fell while Bunnie fired at more enemies.
"The Freedom Fighters? Here? Now? They're getting bolder." Scarlemagne realized before making a frustrating decision. "Change in plans, everyone! We leave now with the humans we have! We'll have those kids later!"
Upon hearing Scarlemagne's orders, the apes rode their flamingoes out of the hole and disappeared into the wide, blue sky. Even the Hooligans escaped. Once they were all gone, all of Kipo Underground came out of hiding to approach the hole.
"What just happened?" Tails asked.
"What happened was…" Bunnie said in a country accent as Rotor stopped the van in front of them, "We just saved all y'all lives. Sorry we couldn't be here sooner."
"Um, I'm here too," Antoine said walking towards them, "In case anyone was asking."
"And who are you guys?" Sonic asked. "You with the Freedom Fighters?"
"Something like that." Rotor said.
"Specifically speaking, we ARE the Freedom Fighters." A new voice said from inside the van. Bunnie hopped out bringing in a new figure. It was a chipmunk mute with brown and tan fur along with auburn hair. She wore tall, blue boots and a blue sleeveless vest. "Nice to meet you, Kipo Underground. Yumyan told me a lot about you."
Kipo gasped realizing something. "Wait. Are you the leader, Arbor?"
"That's a silly nickname that I didn't pick." The chipmunk girl rolled her eyes. "My real name is Sally. Sally Acorn."
"What are you doing here?" Sonic asked.
"Yumyan saw Scarlemagne heading your way, and called us to save you."
"Well, we're okay," Benson said, "But most of the other humans here were already taken by Scarlemagne."
"Including my dad." Kipo said.
"And our mom." Manic said.
"I understand and I'm sorry that we didn't come sooner." Sally said with sympathy. "Believe me, I know what it's like to lose a parent. But that's why I am here. I've heard a lot about you people. You outraced the Mod Frogs and a Mega-Bunny though Skyscraper Ridge. You helped Yumyan regain his confidence. You helped create peace between the Timbercats and the Umlaut Snakes. You tamed a Mega-Monkey with nothing but a song. You destroyed the Newton Wolves' telescope. You explored and survived Angel Island. You escaped the Hooligans on multiple occasions. You broke the trance of a collection of water bears. You conquered a Mega-Pigeon with the help of the Fitness Raccoons. You blew up four crews with one blast. You all are a bunch of relentless, crazy, lunatics…" She smiled. "And that's exactly what we're looking for."
"I'm sorry?" Dave asked.
"Look. I'm not gonna sugarcoat this." Sally warned. "The Freedom Fighters haven't made much progress, and after what just happened, Scarlemagne now has enough power pull off whatever plan he has and become unstoppable. But there's still time to stop him. If you help us and become official Freedom Fighters, not only will you be saving thousands of lives, we will also rescue your burrow and parents. What do you say?"
"Well, we were planning on saving them anyway." Kipo said. "It would help a lot to have some help."
"We're in." Sonic said.
"Scarlemagne won't know what hit him." Tails said.
"I'm in too." Wolf said. Everyone agreed making Sally smile. Mandu ended the agreement with a loud snort ready for action.
"Let's do it to it!" Sonic declared.
