Chapter 15

-oOo-

August 10, 1993

Isla Nublar, Costa Rica

Dennis was heavily huffing as he stumbled into the tree after slipping on the edge of a puddle. All around him were the sounds of bugs and dripping water from trees onto leaves and the undergrowth on the edge of the road. He had been running for a while and wasn't sure he could run any more, even if he needed too.

A roar echoed over the ridge behind him.

The pain he was already feeling in his chest grew with panic. Looking over his shoulder he could make out one of the bigger dinosaurs cresting the hill about a quarter mile back. It was looking down into the valley as it took a few slow steps. The panic had his breath quicken, making him feel lightheaded.

"Hide. I have to hide," he muttered. His tired legs slipped on the moss on the roots of the tree. When he stopped, his girth hidden by the large tree, he tried to get his breath under control. He bit his tongue as the thing roared again. He didn't want to make a sound.

He wasn't sure how long he waited, but when things had grown quiet, he dared to look around the tree. When he didn't see it on the road, he let out a long breath. Feeling tired, he leaned his back against the tree and closed his eyes. He had to make it back to the Visitor Center and main control room. Something went wrong and one of the dinosaurs had escaped.

It was a good ten minutes or more before he felt good enough to walk. He looked around the tree again. His eyes scanned the road, the trees and undergrowth. The hill was mostly cleared of the jungle that was once there so that visitors riding in the automated cars could look down into the valley and paddocks below. There were a few dinosaurs visible in the valley, but none of them outside the fences.

Cautiously, Dennis made his way around the tree, looking and listening as he did. He was just about to step out onto the road when he heard it. It was a soft thump of a step in the undergrowth behind him. His body started to shake with fear. Slowly turning his head, he scanned the ferns and young trees that dominated the forests edge since the road had been put in. He didn't see anything. "You're just being paranoid," he told himself.

After a moment, Dennis stumbled out onto the road. He was still too tired to run, so made more of a loping walk. A rustle in the forest next to him had Dennis move to the far side of the road, his eyes scanning the foliage as he moved as fast as he could. The Barbasol can and disk in his bag clinked together as he hurried. The pain in his chest was starting to come back.

A thunderclap sounded in the distance, echoing up the valley as a dark mass of clouds moved over the southern part of the island. A soft drizzle started up. He heard something moving in the giant ferns. "It's nothing," he tried to comfort himself.

There was another crack of thunder. Dennis looked down the valley to see another bolt come out of the sky and strike somewhere behind a ridge in the distance. Looking away was all it took for a crack to come from behind him. He spun and let out a not so manly scream as a nearly nine-foot-tall monster on two legs stepped out of the woods. As he screamed, it threw its head forward and roared at him. "No. No. No... I'm not food," he whimpered as he stepped backwards. His foot landed in a mud puddle, causing him to fall over.

The ground shook a little as he scrambled to right himself. He turned to see the thing stalking towards him, its large head dipping low and its nose going as it sniffed the air. Water dripped off its snout as the rain became a little heavier. Dennis held up his muddy arm before his face as it came closer. "Go away. Go eat something else," he cried out.

He tried to push himself along the muddy side of the road. The dinosaur came within a few feet. It was stalking him but wasn't acting overly aggressive. Dennis was quaking, fearing he was looking at his death when a soft crack came from his side. It was too soft to be thunder.

The thing stopped, turning its head to its right.

"Hey there, beautiful," a soft voice said.

Dennis turned his head. He had to wipe the rain off his glasses to see a boy who was just under average height. He looked fit, with muscles apparent on his bare arms. He was wearing a vest with a few pockets, a sword strapped to his back and a stick in his right hand.

The beast behind him snorted, turning its attention to the boy. The mouth opened a little, baring it serrated, knife like teeth. The gravelly sound that came from it sounded like a challenge. Dennis looked at the thing, finally losing his bowels as fear raced through him.

"Now, you don't need to act that way," the boy said in a calm tone. The boy, was it Harry? Dennis knew he had met him a few times, but there was something dangerous coming off the boy. Something that scared him as much as the dinosaur that had just been about to eat him. There was something about the dinosaur and the boy that had him thinking two hunters were facing off. The dinosaur took a menacing step towards the boy. "We can do this the simple way or the hard way."

Dennis looked at the boy totally confused. Why was he talking to it like it understood him.

The dinosaur roared at the boy. Dennis screamed as it started to run.

There was a crack, and the dinosaur ran into empty air where the boy had just been a moment before. Dennis knew he had seen the boy and the only movement he had seen was a slight twist to his body, then he was just gone. It didn't make sense.

"Over here, Rexy!" the boy called out. Dennis looked with huge eyes to see the boy a good fifty feet up the road.

"What the fuck?" Dennis said softly to himself.

The dinosaur turned. When it saw the boy, it roared out again before charging the boy. The boys stick came up and he said something that Dennis didn't understand. His mouth dropped open as a ball of white light leapt from the stick to the charging thing. It impacted the dinosaur in the head. It reared back, stumbling as it snapped its head up, as though it had just been hurt. The boy took a few steps to the side as the thing stumbled past him before stopping.

"I don't want to hurt you," the boy said. He uttered something else. This time a lavender light leapt from the stick to the beast's head.

When it hit, the dinosaur shook its head before turning and roaring at the boy. To Dennis' utter shock the boy yelled back… no! He roared back. The dinosaur took a step back as though unsure what to do. After a moment, there was a barking and growling noise from the beast. The boy made back similar sounds. As though not liking what it was told, the nine-foot-tall monster roared again. The boy took a menacing step towards the monster, the stick up and making the growling and barking sounds again. In defiance the monster took a step forward, its jaws open as though it wanted to strike out. The boy... spoke to it? Was that what happened?

The thing responded.

That was the only thing that made sense in this strange circumstance. He was convincing himself that he had hit his head when the thing turned its gaze to him. Dennis felt his bowels give out again as it growled at him. The boy hissed something then growled back. The dinosaur gave Dennis one last growl before turning back to the boy. After a few more growls back and forth, the boy stepped closer holding his hand up, palm towards the beast. It growled at him before lowering its head. Dennis' body shook for the boy, who didn't look scared as the dinosaur lowered its head. Its jaws closed before sniffing the boy's hand.

Dennis breath stopped; sure he was going to see the thing rip the boys arm off. Instead, the monster lowered its head to be level with the boy's chest. The boy's hand moved to the side of the muzzle, gently stroking the side. The thing closed its eyes before making what seemed like a gravelly purring sound.

"Holy shit," Dennis muttered.

It must have been loud enough over the rain that they both turned their attention to him. The monster made a dangerous growl deep in its throat.

"Oh fuck! Oh fuck! Oh fuck," Dennis started to repeat as it turned to him and took a few ominous steps.

The boy just watched him for a moment before growling something then spoke. "That's enough, Rexy. As for you, you bloody dick, you just about destroyed my home and got a lot of people killed. Maybe I should let Rexy eat you."

Dennis thought he knew fear before. This was something different. The anger in the boy was radiating off him. Dennis swore he felt it. For the third time he shat in his pants.

The boy crinkled his nose before patting the side of the large dinosaur. It opened its mouth. "You don't want to eat that."

The boy's stick came up and Dennis cried out, his arm coming up to shield his face as a red wispy ball of light suddenly raced towards him. His last conscious thought was that the monster cocked its head like it was curious at something...

Back in the Control Center...

Sirius was laughing as everyone else was looking on slack jawed as they stared at the screens. The two cameras that were looking at the scene showed Rexy move its head, as though trying to nuzzle Harry. It was so strong that it knocked Harry and he stumbled a few feet before laughing and patting the smaller tyrannosaur's neck.

Lex blinked a few times. "Did he just...?"

Sirius was still laughing. "Just make friends with that beast? Yeah, looks like."

"Dear god," her mother said next to her, making the sign of the cross as she looked on.

Mr Arnold's cigarette fell out of his mouth. "Who the hell is this boy?"

"My godson," Sirius said proudly.

"Was that magic he used on it?" Mr Benning questioned.

"I would say so. He's been studying quite a bit. I guess the cat is really out of the bag now, though," Sirius said, sobering some.

Her grandfather was leaning against his cane. "I know you could do some great things, but I've never," he said.

Lex had a small smile coming over her face as she watched the tyrannosaur fall in step besides Harry as he used his wand to levitate the muddy fat form of Mr Nedry. He did some fancy movement with is wand. Her eyes widened to see something made of light come jumping out. Harry looked surprised. Sirius' jaw dropped this time. "Bloody hell," he muttered.

"What is that?" her mother asked.

"It looks like a small tyrannosaurus made of light," Mr Arnold said.

"What the hell is all this?" Gary asked, looking towards them.

Her grandfather sighed. "You are all under non-disclosure agreements. You are witnessing what is known as magic. This is a secret as big as the dinosaurs, understood?"

"Dear god," Marcy said, making a cross like her mother had a moment before.

Harry seemed to get over his shock, said something they couldn't hear since there were no microphones out there and the wispy tyrannosaurus rex charged away.

"Well, this will be interesting," Sirius said.

She turned to the man. "What was that?"

"It's called a Patronus. It's meant to fight off very dark creatures from where we are from. It can also pass along messages," he told them, indicating the hallway outside the Control Center. There was a bright light that suddenly burst through the wall. A six-foot-tall tyrannosaurus made of silvery light jumped in. Several people screamed or jumped back. "Odd, Muggles aren't supposed to see this."

It stopped just before Sirius. Lex felt drawn to it. It felt like Harry. Well, his magic, as she was coming to realize. It also filled her with a happiness she wasn't sure she had ever felt... not to mention the power of it made her feel a little randy. Harry's voice came out of the slightly open mouth of the thing. "Tell Mr Hammond I have Mr Nedry. I forgot to grab a radio. I'm not sure if you want to send anyone to pick us up. Rexy won't hurt anyone."

The light filled dinosaur suddenly lost shape and dissipated into silvery wisps, which were gone in mere seconds. Sirius chuckled. "You never do things by half, pup. Expecto Patronum," Sirius said.

This time a large dog hopped out. It barked, running around everyone for a moment. "John, what do you want him to do?"

Her grandfather, like everyone else, watched the silvery dog run around, wisps trailing behind it. "Uhm. I think it would be best if we send someone out. I don't want the tyrannosaur in the compound."

Sirius nodded. "Pup. Stop where you are. Someone will come out to pick up the shit that tried to kill us."

The large ethereal dog gave a playful bark before running through the wall, just like the tyrannosaur had.

Mr Arnold slumped into his seat. "I need a drink."

Sirius chuckled. "I'll take a double."

"Dad? Sirius? What was all that? What aren't you telling me? Is Lex capable of doing that?" her mother asked.

A smile came over Lex's face. "That would be wicked."

Most others looked at them, apprehension or fear on their faces.

"Yes, Lex will be capable of casting a Patronus, but probably not for a while. It's an advanced spell. As for what Harry did with that dinosaur, I have no idea. Not every witch or wizard is talented in everything. Harry has a very strong connection with beasts. Probably the strongest I have ever seen. If I'm not mistaken, he has just made a familial bond. I'll tell you what I know, but not here," Sirius said, nodding towards everyone else in the Control Room.

"Right," Mr Hammond said. "Robert."

Benning gave a shaky nod. "Right. Get a security team out there. Now. Ray, organize a team to knock out the other tyrannosaur and fix that fence. I want the smaller one back in as soon as its fixed."

Sirius snorted. "I'm not sure that is advisable. At least not for the next day or two. If Harry made a familial bond, they will both need to be close to each other for at least that."

Lex looked back at the screen. Harry was listening to the ethereal dog before it dissipated. Harry nodded and his wand flicked. Mr Nedry was dropped into a heap in the middle of the road before Harry turned and patted the neck of Rexy again. She felt a little scared but intrigued and turned on at the same time. How powerful was Harry?

Tyrannosaur paddock...

The night was falling in the island as the storms pulled away. A reddish glow covered the wet forest as the sun dipped below the mountain ridge to the west. Harry sat on the damp ground, his back to the sleeping Rexy and fighting off his own tiredness as the constant movement of his chest was like a child being rocked to sleep.

Not far away the much larger form of Romilda was sleeping under a more laboured breathing. She had to be knocked out so the workers could repair the fence that had been knocked down by a tree. The tree had been just large enough to allow Rexy to walk over the moat, but not for Romilda.

He could hear the heavy equipment moving a few new fence stanchions into place, but they were just beyond the curve of the paddock and only the crane could be seen above the trees.

As he heard them work, Harry pulled the book up that he had been reading on the way back to the island from Isla Sorna... Merlin, had that only been yesterday?

Flipping the page, he found what he was looking for:

Greater Dragons and other large beasts
How to control and work with them

It was a chapter he had read many times over the last few months since they had met the lindworm at Hogwarts. Thinking back on it, he had thought he almost understood the beast a few times. Harry had ever only done that with snakes, and he definitely didn't remember anything like that the time he had faced the Hungarian Horntail, or maybe he hadn't recognized it in the panic of the moment... but with time, distance and sorting through his memories, he had felt he was on the edge of understanding that beast.

Reading this book, he had the thought again if either Hagrid had not understood true beast mastery or if this type of control had been lost, hidden or removed in the almost three hundred years between when Harry had attended Hogwarts and the Chamber of Secrets had been closed in this world.

Either way, Harry was studying the handful of text they had managed to get and this one was the most informative, even if it was in older English and he struggled to get through it at time.

Even so, the spells in it were useful.

For those wizards with the knack of creature speech or creature control, like he was finding himself to have, then the Commcucreaturis spell was incredibly useful. It allowed the caster to communicate with the creature. Usually this just meant rough ideas, communicated back and forth, but for those with the talent, it meant you could 'speak' with the creature.

Harry had not considered it for any of the dinosaurs, thinking it could only be used on a magical creature... well, that had been until Sirius had cursed the raptors as minidragons.

That had been the idea when he apparated to Rexy.

Cast the spell.

Try to convince her - though Harry now knew she was a he - to go back to his cage.

If that didn't work, then stun Rexy.

If that didn't work... Harry really didn't want to kill another dinosaur, but he would if he had too.

Instead, he found himself having a conversation with the big guy and convincing him not to eat Mr Nedry, even though Harry wanted the guy to suffer. After promising Rexy a cow in a few days, as well as a very short battle of wills, the large guy had accepted him as the alpha.

Reading through the chapter, this was a possibility, but was very uncommon. Both to gain full speech, and then to master the creature. Usually it was some type of deal for a bit, and once concluded the beast went back to its true ways.

"This is just typical for me," he snorted in amusement as Rexy shifted.

Harry looked up to see Yvonne, Sirius and Lex a short bit off.

"Is it safe to approach?" Sirius asked.

Harry looked to Rexy's head. His eye was open, but he didn't seem concerned.

"You better not. I'm not sure if he is only tame for me or for everyone," Harry replied. He patted Rexy's side before getting up. Harry trusted the guy, but not enough to take his eyes off the tyrannosaur. Rexy was still a wild animal that could lash out. That had been a lesson pounded into him in Hagrid's classes. Even a tame beast could still be dangerous, and Rexy was nowhere near tame.

Rexy made a grumble that seemed to indicate he was not pleased with being woken.

"Oh, Harry," Lex said rushing to him before he even got halfway to them. She threw herself at him, her arms flinging around his neck, forcing Harry to grab her and hug her. "I thought you were going to die."

"I'm alright, beauty," he said to her, burying his face into her unruly mass of blonde hair. It was a frizzy from the humid climate.

Sirius' eyes kept drifting between him and the large mass not thirty feet away. "You alright, pup?"

"Yeah," he said.

Yvonne had her large dart gun ready to come up and fire. "How the hell did you bring that thing under control?"

Harry chuckled as Lex didn't loosen her hold. "I don't control him. Rexy and I have an understanding."

"How did you do that, Harry?" Sirius asked.

"Magic," Harry replied, chuckling as his godfather rolled his eyes. He held the book out for Sirius. "There are some interesting books in our private library."

Sirius took the book. "I haven't used it much yet except for the history and government books."

Lex pulled back, a tear on her cheeks. "What do you mean you have an understanding with the dinosaur?"

Harry kissed her forehead. "Lex, I haven't told you yet, but I can talk with snakes. Apparently, that means I have an affinity for creatures, and using an old spell, I can talk with Rexy."

"Bloody hell," Sirius said, scanning the page. After a moment, he flipped to the front cover. "Harry, this is a Mastery thesis work. How do you understand this? Do you know who wrote this?"

"Josiah Kettleburn. I'm assuming he was some many times great grandfather of Professor Kettleburn," Harry replied.

"Who is Kettleburn," Yvonne asked.

"A man who taught Care of Magical Creatures when I was in school. Did he teach you?" Sirius asked.

"Retired the year before I took the class. Hagrid taught me through my OWLs," Harry replied.

"What does all this mean, and will I be learning that?" Lex asked.

"If you want. This is an advanced book on Creature Care. I wonder why they never taught us this in school," Sirius said again, flipping open to the section Harry had been reading.

Yvonne took a step back, her dart gun raising. Harry held up a hand. He heard Rexy moving and turned to him. Rexy was getting up, steadying himself, and then taking a few steps forward.

You will not hurt them, Harry commanded in a series of growls and barking sounds.

Rexy regarded him before taking a step forward. "He won't hurt you," Harry said as Lex moved to put him between her and the dinosaur. Her arms wrapped around his waist in a painful bear hug.

Sirius held his ground. Harry didn't miss his godfather's wand coming to his hand.

Bad stick thing, Rexy growled.

"Yvonne, put your gun down," Harry said in an even voice.

Rexy took the few steps to come over to him. He leaned down. Harry tried not to wrinkle his nose as the smell of rotting flesh and other nasty smells as Rexy's snout came close to them.

Lex's hold tightened. He felt her shaking a little. Rexy sniffed them before letting out a quick breath. Mate? Rexy questioned.

Harry tried not to blush too much. He knew the tyrannosaur meant it as that. Mate. The woman who would carry his children. Yes, Harry answered, understanding Rexy wouldn't understand it in any other way. Even though he was more like a ten-year-old, instincts were strong in all the dinosaurs.

When I am bigger, I will mate the female, Rexy said in a sure tone. Harry was under no doubts he meant Romilda.

I'm sure you will, big boy, Harry affirmed.

"What are you growling?" Lex questioned.

"Telling Rexy you are my girlfriend and him telling me he will mate Romilda when he is bigger," Harry replied.

Sirius let out a soft laugh, which died in his throat as the big head turned towards him. Harry could see Yvonne tensing. "Yvonne, it's alright."

She didn't relax, only raising the muzzle just a tick.

"Pup, what is she doing?" Sirius whispered out of the side of his mouth as Rexy sniffed him.

"You're a dog, you tell me," Harry replied cheekily.

"Cheeky bint," Sirius muttered.

This is food?"

No. That is my godfather... ah, a member of my herd, Harry answered.

Rexy snorted. Herd is food. Hunter is pack.

He is part of my pack then.

Rexy stood tall, eyeing Yvonne over Sirius, who took a step back.

"Harry?" she asked softly as Rexy growled at her.

Hunter. Not pack.

A friend. Someone you will not hurt, Harry demanded.

Rexy eyed Yvonne for a moment before giving a final snort. Hunter. Challenger. Am I to challenge all the other hunters?"

Harry chuckled. "Harry?" Yvonne said a little more forcibly.

Harry shook his head. Only if we are in danger or they are trying to hunt you with real guns.

Guns?

Those stick things, Harry informed him. The ones that are meant to hurt you are not silver.

Rexy eyed Yvonne and the dart gun in her hands.

You will bring a large cow in a few suns?

Yes, Harry promised.

"Harry!" Yvonne snapped.

"He isn't going to hurt you. I told him that along as you don't try to hurt us or carry a real gun, then he is not to hurt you," Harry said, hoping the big guy would keep his word. "I need to tell Timmons that he needs to release a cow for Rexy in a few days."

"Oh," Yvonne said, her muscles relaxing a little.

"He's not going to eat us?" Lex asked, her grip not having loosened at all.

"Rexy won't. Did you bring anything to eat? I'm starving but don't think I should leave him until the fence is fixed," Harry told them.

Lex leaned into him so her eyes were just over his shoulder. "Grandpa said there would be food in the dining room by seven."

Sirius shook his head. "Harry shouldn't leave Rexy for a bit more. I'll go get something. Lex, are you staying here?"

"I'm not leaving Harry," she said.

He took one of her hands in his. Rexy looked at him again. Your mate is getting close to being fertile. Few more days. You should mate then, Rexy commented.

Harry went bright red. Rexy turned, going back over to where he had been sleeping.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at Harry. "What did it say?"

"Nothing," Harry said, becoming very aware of Lex's breasts pressing into his back.

Control Center...

"Ray, are we back up?" John asked. He was tired. The other guests had been trying to find out what was going on for hours, especially Ian Malcolm. The man was like a hound sniffing out anything that could go wrong.

As much as Harry and Sirius had used magic today to save them, he didn't want it getting out to anyone that hadn't seen it. Watching his granddaughter sitting in a pool of light from a lamp, eating with her boyfriend and a sleeping juvenile tyrannosaur only a few feet away would be a huge give away that something had happened today, though not in the way Ian had predicted.

It had been chaos. There was no doubt about that. Five adult raptors dead. Two people dead, four others injured, but mostly healed by Harry and Sirius, and one saboteur that John felt inclined to feed to the adult T-Rex. Then to top it off, magic had somehow allowed the boy to tame a dinosaur.

As John was having these thoughts, Ray scrubbed his face. "All the systems are back up and running as normal. The fence will be fixed in a few hours. Your granddaughter is eating dinner with her boyfriend... yeah, we are back up."

John let out a sigh.

Linda was sitting in a chair watching the screen that showed her daughter. He could tell she was still fuming about what she found but seeing the camera watching the two was clearly rocking her world.

"If Lex is alright, I should go check on Tim. Lex will be back tonight?"

"If not, Umbridge, Rogers and Black will keep an eye on them," Benning said from another chair. "John, we need to talk tomorrow."

"We all need to talk tomorrow," Linda informed him in no uncertain terms.

"We will," John promised his daughter. "Robert, I want a staff meeting tomorrow at ten. Dr Rose said Muldoon should be able to join us. Sirius and Harry should as well."

"John, Lex did as much as anyone else to save us. She found things in the code that need fixing. I think she should be involved in any conversations as well," Ray spoke up.

Linda closed her eyes for a few. "Lex is going to have to stay, isn't she?"

"We had agreed on that," John replied.

His daughter opened her eyes, giving him and unfathomable look. "I need to talk to my children. We may all have to stay after what I read in that report."

John gave her a small smile. "I would really enjoy that and make more time to be here."

Linda didn't say anything as she got up and left the Control Room. John watched her leave. Once the door was closed, Benning asked, "John, what do you want to do about Nedry?"

A flash of annoyance and anger came over his face. He slammed his cane into the floor. "Find out who he is working for and if he stole anything else. After that, I want to talk to the American Consulate. I want the man strung up in the highest security prison we have. Contact our other lawyers too. I want every penny back from Cambridge Analytical we can get."

"You want to tell everyone about Jurassic Park?" Benning questioned.

"No, but he did steal genetically sensitive information from InGen. For now, this place stays secret until after the new year. You are sure we will be able to open in June, instead of September?" John questioned his park manager.

Benning looked to Ray. Ray shrugged. "With this test of our backup systems and other safety protocol, I think we can say all the safeguards will be in place by February, and if Lex or another company can help with the main code, I would say yes. Probably even earlier if the aviary is complete. We can't let this happen again though. It was a near miss for a disaster."

"No, we can't. Get a new safety protocol and proposal for updates on my desk by end of next week. John, you have to let Muldoon and the Vets have some of their proposals ready to go as well," Benning told him.

John sighed. "I really want raptors on this island. You can't tell me that they are not going to be a hit attraction?"

"Perhaps, but I think today shows how dangerous they are," Benning countered.

John sighed again. Velociraptors had been one of his late wife's favourites. "We have the new version three-point-six clutch that just hatched. Henry thinks he resolved some of the aggressiveness by finding a flaw in their DNA. Let's see how they develop before we think of terminating that DNA string."

Benning and Ray pursed their lips. "I want to have them transferred back to Isla Sorna for study. We can bring the Allosaurus or Cryolophosaurus in their place. Wu assures me they will be ready in late October."

"What of the oviraptors, archeopteryx and deinonychus? Henry said they were doing well," John asked.

"The oviraptors are still on a version two-point-one and are not lasting more than eight months. The archeopteryx should be ready. I don't know about the deinonychus. You really want to replace the velociraptors with another hunter like it? I didn't think they were out of preliminary genetic phase one," Benning replied.

John hit his cane on the floor again. "I have not been able to read the reports from last quarter. Deinonychus is half the size of the raptors. What about the few unidentified ones?"

"We have four species not in Jurassic Park that will be ready before we open next year. Two of them will be in the aviary, and I gave you the two others we are sure about," Benning answered.

"Fine. Fine. When I opened the budget to Henry, I told him to spare no expense. He has done that, but I feel we haven't progressed as far along as I thought we would be by now," John said wistfully.

"John, you are talking about us bringing eighteen species back to life and full viability, with a dozen more on the wings, and more possibly behind that. This magic that Harry and Sirius have brought in has already led to a few new experiments. You have to give the scientists more time," Benning told him.

After a moment, John nodded his head. "You are right, Robert. I'm just anxious. This has been more than fifteen years to get to this point, and more than twenty since I first came up with this idea with Margaret. I just want to see everything thrive in my lifetime."

Benning came forward and put a hand on his arm. "We will, John. Thanks to your granddaughter and Potter, we have a chance."

John nodded, looking at the screen. Lex was leaning her head on Harry's shoulder as he leaned against the sleeping tyrannosaur. There was a dog at his feet that John didn't recognize but didn't question it for now.

He had the feeling that the two people on that screen might just be the future of this enterprise.
