A/N: I know it's been a while since I updated this one but this next stretch is based on the Chicago fire 2x20/Chicago PD 1x12 A Dark Day.
It had been a few months since they confessed to loving each other and Jay still wondered why Gabby was even taking a chance on them.
"You're thinking too much." Jay chuckled as Gabby's sleep filled voice reached his ears, the sun still hours away from coming up.
"You're a mind reader now?" He leaned down and kissed her.
"Something like that." She pulled him flush against her. "You should be sleeping right now." She mumbled, wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep herself.
"I'm sorry I woke you."
"It's fine Jay but are you going to tell me what's on your mind or will I have to pull it out of you?" She kissed his shoulder.
"Still wondering why." He confessed, pushing some strands of hair away from her eyes.
"Well, the sex is phenomenal." She flipped them over and straddled him the moonlight the only thing lighting the room.
"Oh, am I only interesting because of the sex?" His fingers were moving across the skin of her thighs as he smirked.
"No." She smiled. "You are caring." She leaned down and kissed him. "You are loyal." She moaned as he ran his fingers against her back, applying just enough pressure on her skin to make it want to catch fire. "You are protective of the people you love." His lips moved from hers to her neck. "You have this tough guy persona that you let everyone see but that you're not afraid to let slip with me and be vulnerable." She threw her head back as his thumb brushed against her nipple. "That grin." She took over herself. "Should be illegal, among other things."
"Among other things?" He quirked an eyebrow with a smirk on his lips.
"You are such an alpha male." She kissed him again.
"Alpha male huh?" He flipped them around and pinned her between his body and the mattress.
"Maybe."
"You're not sure?"
"Remind me?" Her eyes were glazed over with lust and looking into them, he positioned himself and pushed into her to the hilt.
"I hope you have some extra stamina." His movements were slow at first, but as Gabby's fingers started roaming against the skin of his back, turning his insides on fire, his lips found the skin of her neck and he quickened his pace. Gabby's body moved to his rhythm, their bodies sweating lightly from the exertion. With every deep push Gabby became more vocal, her fingers bunching the sheets, Jay's teeth sinking into the skin of her neck, sending her body in a frenzy. "Gabby." He growled as his movements became sloppier, her other hand slipping under the sheets, grabbing his ass as they fell apart against each other.
"This was nice." She whispered when their hearts settled, and Jay pulled her into his body.
"Hmm more than nice." He hummed as her arm came to rest against his chest. "We should get some sleep, tomorrow is a big day for you."
"Big." She closed her eyes and nestled herself even further in him. "I love you."
"I love you too." He kissed her forehead and closed his eyes, the two falling back asleep for a few restful hours.
Jay stirred hours later but the weight on his arm prevented him from going anywhere. An alarm was useless after all his years in the military, his body working to do the same. Gabby was a heavier sleeper than he was, so it wasn't uncommon for her not to realise he was awake next to her and he always took that to his full advantage. He pushed a strand of hair that had fallen in her face, placing it behind her ear and running his hand down her back and under the t-shirt of his she was wearing. They had fallen asleep pretty late the previous night after getting their workout done, enjoying a rare day off where Intelligence was concerned.
"Wake up, you don't want to be late." The pressure on her hip kicked her body into gear and Gabby snuggled into Jay as much as she could.
"Five more minutes." She kissed his chest.
"If I give you five more minutes, I won't be able to make love to you the way I want to." His lips found hers and she was fully awake now.
"That's blackmail detective." She said between kisses, her arms now around Jay's neck, keeping him close.
"I would never do that." He pinned her under his body and deepened the kiss, his hands roaming her body.
"What I do need is to stretch, to avoid injury." She was breathless as he moved his kisses to her neck.
"We wouldn't want that now, would we?" He chuckled.
"No, we would not." She agreed as he pushed the shirt over her head and to the floor. Jay fulfilled his promise to make love to her and stretch her body and finally content, he watched Gabby head for a shower first. He was very tempted to join her, but she would really be late if he did. Slipping in a pair of sweats, he headed to the kitchen to make them some breakfast, Gabby needing energy to run that 10K.
Gabby could smell the coffee when she stepped out of the bathroom. Tying her hair in a ponytail, she changed and went to join Jay who handed her a fresh cup of coffee and a protein breakfast, happy just to watch her eat.
"Are you ready to do some running?"
"I think so." She mused. "I have to stop by the CFD/CPD tent on my way to registration to see Matt."
"How is he doing?"
"He's good but not cleared for active duty yet, you know how it is."
"That's tough. Kim should be there to represent the district"
"She's on patrol, right?"
"Yeah, she helps us in the unit sometimes too."
"Are we grabbing dinner after?"
"Can't make promises, you know how it is."
"Yeah. But keep me posted and be careful?"
"I'll try to be." He chuckled while ducking from the dish rag she threw his way.
"I hate you." She grabbed her plate and set it in the sink.
"No, you don't."
"You're right, I don't, but what I can do is keep this hot body out of reach of your skillful hands."
"You wouldn't dare do that." He scoffed. "That's blackmail Gabby Dawson." She laughed as she moved out of his reach and back to her room to finish getting ready.
"What goes around comes around." She bounced towards him with a smile. "I'll see you later." She wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss.
"I love you and good luck."
"I love you too." She said before he released her. He watched her leave before he headed into the shower. He didn't have much time before having to head into work, but he got ready without rushing and headed out for a second cup of coffee on his way in.
Gabby arrived at Med and headed towards the tent where she knew Matt would be settling in the Fire department booth, Kim doing the same for PD. The banter was easy, the two having been friends for the longest time. She made fun of him and Truck's silly goat shirts and chatting a bit with Kim before she walked inside, trying to find the registration booth. Finding Dr Arata and trying to figure out where she was supposed to go. She was walking the halls, looking around with the indications on the walls when the walls and ground shook and she was propelled forward, the building coming down on her, trapping her in the dark.
Jay walked up the stairs and the 21st looked like a normal day. Officers were roaming the front lobby, waiting for instructions from Platt, detectives were moving around with suspects, so he made eye contact with Platt and moved up the stairs and through the gate that separated Intelligence from the rest of the district. He found Antonio, Voight and Al at their desk, so it was quiet. Sumners, Ruzek and Lindsay had yet to make an appearance, so he decided to pour himself a coffee to kick himself into gear. He was hoping for a quiet enough day to be able to have some dinner with Gabby later in the evening, but the day went to hell the minute that Voight came out of his office, announcing that there had been a bomb that had gone off at Chicago Medical Center, taking a part of the building with it. It took Jay all of a second to reach in his pocket and dial Gabby's phone and it rang until it went to voicemail.
"Gabby, call me back, I need to know if you're safe." He exchanged a look with Antonio before giving his attention to Voight. The details were few and that didn't help the nerves going through him.
"And?" Antonio simply questioned Jay.
"I left her a message, asked her to call me back."
"Don't panic, she might just be in paramedic mode right now." Jay nodded in understanding, giving his attention to Voight, keeping his fears away from his mind.
"Let's go everyone, we have to see what we're looking at." The whole team mobilized towards the hospital and when they stepped out of their respective cars, Jay's anxiety skyrocketed.
"Don't think like that Jay, we don't know anything yet." Erin tried to reassure him as they walked behind Voight. When they made it to Chief Boden, one look in the older man's eyes and Jay knew.
"Chief, where's Gabby?" It was no use hiding the fear from his voice.
"Jay." The way he said it made him throw his body forward, the older man holding him back. "You can't go in there, Jay nothing is stable. You need to let us do our jobs." He pushed him back and held him at arm's length.
"You've got to find her Chief." Jay was vaguely aware of Antonio's hand on his shoulder in an attempt to keep him from moving forward.
"And we will. Let us do our job while you do yours and find these animals. One of us will radio our progress." Jay could only nod, helpless to do anything else right now.
Antonio pulled Jay aside, needing to have a word with him because he could feel like he was losing his grip.
"Hey are you okay?"
"Am I okay?" Jay growled, fear having been replaced by anger. "Your sister is missing, how can I be okay? How can you be okay?"
"Gabby is strong. No matter where she is, she's going to be okay, you have to believe that. Firehouse 51 is the best in the city and she's their family, they'll find her and bring her back to you when all of this is over. Understood?"
"Yeah, loud and clear." He sighed.
"Now let's go and catch the scumbag that did this." Clapping a hand on his shoulder and looking in his eyes, Antonio knew he was good to go so they headed back to the team and Chief Boden for more details before they made their way through Med, interrogating patients and personnel alike, trying to figure everything out until they found out about Kim's niece being in the ICU.
"We're going to ask for forgiveness instead of permission today you understand?" Jay took every word in coming out of his Sargent's mouth. "We're not slowing down for anything, and I mean anything. No one's going to give a damn once these bastards are caught. Those are the words Jay stood by, knowing Gabby was still trapped under the rubble, Kim's niece still fighting for her life.
A/N: So I had to go a bit AU on this one to fit Gabby and Jay's relationship. You know what to do before you leave :) - Sarra
