A/N: In insurrection series 9 (when Deb and Abby get held at gun point) I was really disappointed in the lack of carter and Deb friendship –they were really close in series 9 and bits of 8 that I thought there should have been more. Therefore I wrote this fic! It is not a romance but if u want to perceive it as that that's fine too. Hope you enjoy it! Its my first Jinter as such. Please please please read and review- this is my second fic so I would really appreciate it!
Carter: You should go…
Abby: home and lie down. Yeah I know but I'm fine.
Carter and Abby smiled affectionately at each other.
Carter: Where's Deb?
Jerry: I don't know. Weavers been looking for her too.
Susan: I saw her about 15 minutes ago heading to the vending machine.
Carter: Cheers Susan.
Carter headed toward the quiet part of the hospital. He was worried about Deb. Being held at gun point must have shocked her and being her oldest friend and chief resident, Carter felt inclined to be there for her.
Carter pushed open the white door to find Deb sitting on the floor with her head in her hands. The sudden movement of the door caused Deb to look up.
Carter: Hey
Deb: Hey
Carter walked over to her and sat down next to her
Carter: You ok?
Deb: Yeah
Carter stared at her intently with an expression that just asked "are you sure", before Deb began crying.
Carter put his arms around Deb as she sobbed in to his shirt. At first she was tense but she soon relaxed into him. Carter rubbed her back in rhythmic circles and made reassuring sounds in order to comfort her.
Deb: I shouldn't be crying like this
Carter: Sshh Deb, it's ok. Your in shock its normal to feel like this, you've just been through an experience that would shake anyone up.
(in between sobs) Deb: For a while I didn't think I was going to make it, I just thought he's going to shoot me and I wanted to scream but I couldn't and … (continues crying on C's shoulder)
Carter: Hey, its ok, its over now Deb. The guy isn't coming back, the cops have got him now. He was just a frustrated guy who didn't know how else to express himself, he's got what he deserved. Deb your shaking.
Carter took off his coat and wrapped it around Deb while rubbing her arms. After a while Deb calmed down and she stopped shaking.
Carter: You ok?
Deb: Yeh I think so
Carter: Take the rest of the day off, I'll cover for you
Deb: I'm fine
Carter: I'm not taking no for an answer, go home and rest. You've been through a lot
Deb: How come your not as adamant with Abby?
Carter: Because at least I've got a chance of convincing you to go home, with Abby I know I'm fighting a losing battle
Deb: What so I'm easily influenced?
Carter: well lets just say that you still see me as the better med student and therefore respect me
Deb: You were not the better med student. I remember that presentation we did for Benton in our first yr in the ER, your face when you saw my power point projection and handout was priceless.
Carter: Yeh, you were just a try hard! (Deb hits him on the arm) Ouch!
Deb: You deserved it
Carter: Well at least I got you to smile again
Deb: Thanks Carter
Carter: Any time
