"Just go back, Kiana!" Robin moved swiftly, annoyed that the girl wouldn't listen. If I don't come to the train, the entire thing was for nothing, but I can't bring Kiana there either…
"No Robin," Kia panted as she followed her friend, trying to keep pace. "You just stop and talk to me!"
Robin whirled, stopping in her tracks, and causing Kia to practically fall over in her haste to stop. "I'll talk, if you promise that you'll go back afterwards," Robin said calmly, glaring down.
"You know I can't," Kia said, shaking her head. "It is completely obvious to us all that you are being forced to do this, and you're trying to keep us out of it. Which is just crazy."
"Crazy?!" Robin muttered, pacing back and forth on the side of the street. She stopped again, looking down into Kia's face. "There is no way out of this, Kiana. If I don't do this, then everyone will die."
Kia nodded, knowing now, that Robin was simply scared. Scared, not for herself, but for the friends- no, family- that she had finally found.
Robin gaped, seeing the smile on the younger girls' face. "Wha-?"
"That's not a guarantee, Robin," Kia said, trying to sound confident. "At this point, it's just a threat."
"It's more than that!" Robin snapped, turning away in anger. Why wasn't she getting it?! "A buster call is more than an idle threat!"
"Ah…" Kia said, nodding. "So that's what it is."
Robin paused, looking at her strangely. "You know what a buster call is?" she asked quietly, receiving a nod in reply. She couldn't say why, but it infuriated her all the more. "Then you should KNOW!" she shouted, whirling around yet again.
"You should know," Kia replied quietly, stopping Robin in her tracks. "That no matter what, the Captain will do as he pleases." Her face became hard, she knew she would never appeal to Robin's emotions in this. She would need to make a case logically. "He'll move towards his goal, he'll save his people, no matter who or what stands in his way.
"Even if it's a warlord, an admiral, other pirates or even a god. Even if his memories are taken, his crew-mates are taken or try to leave," she paused, trying to not get emotional about Usopp now. "He'll do more than just follow his dream. He'll help his friends find theirs."
She could see Robin thinking over her words, the hope in her eyes wanting to believe what she was hearing. Eventually, however, that hope died. "He can't win this," Robin stated stiffly. "Even with all your strength together, you will lose."
"Why don't you include yourself when you talk of us?" Kia asked, giving her a glare. "And all together, there is nothing we can't do." She looked up at Robin, grinning. "But even if we can't, that won't stop us from trying. We'll win together, or we'll die together."
"No..." Robin gasped, her worst fears coming to life in front of her. Her face went hard, as she pulled her hands in front of her. "I'm sorry, but this is for your own good."
Kia struggled against the limbs that wrapped around her. She could feel them pulling her head and legs back, and she cried out in pain, scared that the next word she would hear would be clutch.
But then, nothing.
I should have known better, she thought, relieved. The limbs still held her, but no longer pulled against her, and then suddenly disappeared, and she fell to the pavement. I'll have to apologize when I see her next, she thought panting heavily.
Kia got to her hands and knees, looking up to where Robin had been standing, and saw that she was alone. She shook her head, and unsteadily got to her feet. "Good try Robin," she said in a huff of a laugh, as she started walking. "But I know where you're headed."
Sanji stood in the shadows, watching intently as the government men and marines continued to board the sea train. He was smoking, but with the way to wind was blowing, there was no chance that they would see nor smell him.
"So, how should I play this?" he murmured to himself, as he watched Robin boarding the train. She didn't have any restraints, even though she was obviously being escorted away. He knew the train was heading for the judicial island, which was worst case scenario for her.
"Even with opponents like this, she is more than capable of getting away," he mused. "Either she has some type of objective… or some reason that she can't run." A thought wormed its way into his mind, and he crouched down, keeping his giggles muffled.
His imagination ran wild, seeing himself as a handsome prince astride a gleaming unicorn. "So sorry to keep you waiting my dear!" the image of himself called.
"I've been waiting for you, my one and only prince!" the Robin in his mind shed tears as she she looked up at him.
"Could she be doing this on purpose because she wants me to rescue her?" Sanji asked himself, a creepy smile on his face.
He was so enraptured that he missed as Kia came into the area and searched for a place to hide, but was unable to find one as someone came and knocked her unconscious with a blow from behind.
Sanji coughed, coming back to himself as he heard a shout, "It's CP9!" He flattened himself inside the archway where he hid, looking out to see the government men saluting as they made a path for several people to approach the train.
He saw one man hold out an ornate coat to the man in the lead, but he looked as if his arms were full, and the first placed it over his shoulders for him.
"Lemme go! Curse you!"
Sanji straightened, recognizing the voice that shouted. "Usopp?" he said in disbelief, looking out to see his friend tied up, and being carried onto the train by a large man dressed in black.
He kept his position for now, hoping that the others would soon join him. If not, he'd take matters into his own hands.
"Because of Aqua Laguna, we'll be pushing the schedule forward, and depart shortly!" the announcement blared over the roaring of the wind.
Sanji looked around, realizing that he may have to save Robin without the others. It would be helpful if he got to Usopp first, but before that… he needed to leave Nami some information so they could follow.
He started moving quickly, realizing he'd have to hurry so he could say everything he wanted to.
"Argh! Chopper! Are you trying to suffocate me?!" Zoro yelled as he finally got the sopping wet reindeer off his face. "How could you pass out clinging to my face?!"
"Oh, hey Zoro!" Luffy called, seeing the swordsman for the first time. "Why were you running from the wave too? Were you in the town?"
"Not exactly," Zoro said, looking away.
"He was stuck in a chimney," Chopper announced, suddenly awake. Zoro's head spun back to glare at the doctor, even as he started choking him in anger. "Yeeg?!" was all that Chopper could say.
"STUCK IN A CHIMNEY?!" Luffy fell back, clapping his hands as he roared with laughter. "You're such a dope, Zoro! How'd you ever manage to-"
"You're BOTH IDIOTS!" Nami yelled, grabbing Luffy's face and pulling it back towards herself. "You were stuck between buildings, so you have no place to laugh!"
"Wight…" Luffy muttered, trying to get her to let go of his face. "Where are Sanji and Us- uh, where's Sanji?"
"Right, there's a lot to tell you," Nami said dejectedly. "Zoro, you listen too," she called, getting Zoro to let go of Chopper, who was hitting the swordsman repeatedly to get free.
She condensed it all, letting them know about Sanji's note, and that he followed Robin on the train headed for Enies Lobby.
"What about Kia?" Zoro asked.
"I…" Nami stopped, realizing that she wasn't sure. "I don't know," she admitted. "Sanji didn't say anything about seeing Kia."
"If Robin is on the train, then so is Kia," Luffy stated without a worry.
"How can you be sure?" Chopper asked.
"She said to leave Robin to her," Luffy reminded them. "She'd never give up." He turned then, looking at Paulie who was sitting nearby. "Hey, rope guy! Loan us a ship!"
"Wouldn't it be better to just use another train to follow them?" Zoro asked him.
"Oh yeah, that works better!" Luffy said happily, and turned back to Paulie. "How about it?"
"No way," Paulie replied, pointing out towards the ocean. "The puffing tom is the only sea train, and no ship has ever survived in aqua laguna. In all the previous years, that town hasn't budged an inch during the storm, and now it's completely destroyed! We can't send you out there, knowing you'll die!"
He gave them all a sorrowful look. "We'll head to the evacuation centers, and in the morning, we'll get you the best ship available." He turned towards all his men. "Everyone start heading towards the shelters!" he called. "We're done searching for people."
"No!" Nami said, planting herself in front of him, and glaring up at him. "Enies Lobby is where the gates of Justice are," she said angrily. "Anyone that passes through those doors has only two options. One is the Navy Headquarters, and the other is the great underwater prison, Impel Down. Isn't that right?!"
Paulie looked at her, but he couldn't argue because she was correct.
"Robin has a bounty on her head! No matter where she is taken, what is waiting for her is going to be torture! There's no way we can wait even another minute!"
"If you know that," Paulie said, yelling only to be heard over the storm, his voice sounding very tired. "then you know that that's no place for you to go. Enies Lobby is the entryway to the World Government's hub, and naturally, battle lines are drawn around that place."
He looked behind him to see his people, and back towards the Straw Hat Pirates, seeing a line drawn between them, even now. "Are you saying you're going to pick a fight with the very heart of the World Government?!"
"Luffy…" Nami said, worriedly.
"Then, we'll STEAL A SHIP!" Luffy yelled. "Our crew mates are waiting for us, so GET OUT OF OUR WAY!"
"I can't let you go kill yourselves," Paulie said, pulling a rope from his sleeve. "I'll stop you!"
"HOLD IT PEOPLE!"
Everyone turned, seeing Granny Kokoro standing before them.
"If you're so ready to die, then come with me," she said, draining her bottle and handing it down to Chimney, who ran it over to a trash. "I'll take you to a sea train."
"That wasn't the best place to sit," Luffy complained to Zoro as he slid into the train car from outside. "I thought I was going to fly off!" he wiped the water from his face as he puffed.
"Hold on a second," Zoro said. "There's someone strange in this car."
"Huh?" Luffy said, looking around.
"Huh? Who do you mean?" Lulu and Tilestone asked in unison.
"He means you!" Paulie roared at them.
"I mean YOU TOO!" Zoro yelled to him. "What are you even doing here?! Weren't you the one that tried to stop us?!"
Paulie looked down, but his eyes were determined when he raised them again. "The people that took your crewmate, are the same that tried to kill Mr. Iceberg! Since it's no use trying to stop you, I'm joining your fight. It has nothing to do with Galley-La, I'm doing this for myself."
"So are we!" Tilestone and Lulu added happily.
"And that enemy is the same one that took our big bro away!" Zambai cut into the conversation. He looked over at Luffy, hoping that he could convince the straw hat-wearing pirate to join forces. He knew he wasn't the brightest, he usually relied on Franky to come up with the plans. But big bro isn't here right now! And we can't get him back without help! he thought desperately.
"Well then!" Luffy declared, gaining the attention of everyone in the train car, since Galley-La was being so noisy. "Galley-La! Franky Family! We may have had some issues back at Water Seven, but from here on out, we're fighting the same enemy, so we should fight together!"
There was still silence, though Zambai, Kiwi and Mozu all started tearing up.
"The strongest of all of them is that pigeon guy. He's mine! I'm gonna send him flying!" Luffy continued, cracking his knuckles.
"We have to get to those four, or this will never end," Zoro added.
Paulie and Zambai stepped forward, locking arms with Luffy in a triangle, representing their respective crews. They were now all working together, and their crews gave cheers.
"Hey!" Nami yelled, getting their attention. "We're about to collide with a huge wave! Do something!"
"The Franky Family can take care of this!" Zambai yelled, as he ran to the window. "Ready the cannon!" he shouted as he climbed out to the roof.
"Nami, what's that noise?" Chopped asked, hearing something strange coming from the navigator. Luffy and Zoro decided to follow the others outside the car.
Nami gave the front of her shirt a tug, looking down her front. "The baby transponder snail is ringing!" she said in happy surprise. "It must be Sanji!" She pulled out the snail and answered the receiver. "Sanji? Is that you?" she asked, looking over as Chopper and Chimney started screaming about dying.
"Nami? Sounds pretty lively over there," Sanji replied, wiping his nose. He wasn't sure why he felt it had started bleeding, but it seemed he was wrong.
"We had a few tag-a-longs from Galley-La and the Franky family," came the reply. "I have a lot to tell you, so listen up."
"I'm all ears, Nami my swan," Sanji said, ignoring the questions from Franky and sitting down in order to focus.
"Those people aren't shipwrights, they're agents of the world government," she started, giving a sigh. "And Robin made some kind of deal with them. She had to kill Iceberg and pin the blame on us, and then turn herself over to the government. In return, the rest of us are left alone."
"So you're saying…" Sanji said with a frown.
"Exactly," Nami agreed without letting him finish. "She did everything for us! To protect us!" she exclaimed. "If she tried anything, even to warn us, they would have targeted all of us!" Sanji could hear the emotion in her voice, and his heart clenched. "Now she's headed to their stronghold all alone. She's literally giving her life to save ours!"
"Thank you for filling me in, Nami," Sanji replied after a few moments. His resolve was even stronger now, but he knew he should get Luffy's ok to act without the rest of them. He didn't like it, but he had basically signed up for it when he accepted him as his captain. The geezer would have my head if I dishonored my captain like that… he thought. But if he doesn't agree…
"Nami, I need to speak to Luffy," he said solemnly, his mind made up.
Kia groaned as her eyes began to flicker open. Her hand moved to her neck, rubbing at the pain she felt there. What happened? she wondered, as her eyes focused, and she took in the wooden ceiling above her. She lifted her head, taking in the bench she was laying on, and the windows by her feet.
"Seems your guest has woken up," she heard, and she blinked rapidly, confused.
That didn't sound like Robin or Nami…
When she looked to her left, her breathing hitched, and her heart started pounding. The curly hair, the top hat… she didn't need him to turn to recognize him, but he did anyway. She tried to make herself smaller, wishing she could disappear into the bench as Rob Lucci looked down at her from the bench in front of hers.
"Well well," he said, his deep voice quiet and eerie. "That is exactly the look I expected."
"You said you would explain when she woke up," a higher voice came from beside her, and Kia sat up cautiously, looking around to see Kaku sitting in the bench to the left of Lucci's, and Kalifa in the bench across the aisle from hers.
That means Blueno is most likely behind me, and I'm on the train headed to Enies Lobby… she determined. But why take me along?
"Confused?" Lucci asked, as he stood and faced her. She automatically sat straighter, looking back at him warily. "You are not alone in that. The others don't understand, but I am certain you do. Don't you? Kiana, wasn't that what Nico Robin called you? Monkey Kiana?"
Kia just stared, wondering what he was talking about. Monkey? she wondered. Why would he think that? And how should I know why he brought me? It's not like he knows where I'm from, or what I know… right?!
"Ah, it seems you do understand then," he spoke again, and Kia started trembling with the idea that he could read her mind or somehow knew all about her.
The door burst open, and with a shout, a marine had the attention of everyone in the car. Kia listened dispassionately as he relayed the message that the train was now short two cars and most of their marine force.
"What on earth are you people doing back there?" Kalifa asked condescendingly.
"We're very sorry! Even Captain T-Bone-"
"What's the onboard situation now?" she asked, interrupting his explanation.
"Yes Ma'am," the soldier replied, unfazed. "The men in the fifth car have all been taken out, so there is now Mr. Wanze in car four, Mr. Nero in car three, and your party in the second and first cars."
Kalifa looked over to Lucci, as the head of their group. He looked thoughtful, then gave a nod.
"Practically speaking," Lucci mused, "our only inconvenience is the fact that Franky is loose. How many men we lose or how we deal with an intruder has nothing to do with our mission."
"Have you seen the enemy?" Kalifa asked.
"Yes," the soldier replied. "There are the two criminals and a blond man wearing a suit. I've never seen him before."
Kia gave a small smile, before realizing that Kaku and Lucci were watching her.
"Looks like he is one of the Straw Hats," Kaku deduced. "I assume their objective is a rescue, and that Franky is helping them in exchange for freeing him."
"Lucci," Blueno spoke up from behind her, surprising Kia. "Shall I go guard Nico Robin?"
There was a pause and Kia turned back to see Lucci studying her. Finally, he spoke.
"That won't be necessary," he said, though his eyes never left her face. "Just concentrate on re-capturing Franky." The soldier saluted and left the train car.
Kia looked away, unnerved by the emotionless look on Lucci's face.
"No matter how hard they try to rescue them," he spoke again, and she turned back to see him giving her a smile, which made her shiver in unease. "they'll never be able to do it."
He paused, giving her an odd look. "Don't you think so?" he said, causing the others to turn and look between the two of them several times. "Are we up to the task?" he asked.
Kia was breathing heavily, trying to stay calm, channeling her inner Robin. "Why would you ask me?" she asked tightly. There was silence for almost a minute as he studied her face, looking for any signs that she hoped she wasn't showing.
"Keep your thoughts then," he said, turning away and sitting again in front of her. "We will see what happens if the intruders make it this far."
Kia wasn't sure how to take everything that was happening. It wasn't that she didn't grasp what was happening, at least in her surroundings. Usopp was likely already in the first car, trying to convince Robin to go. Sanji and Franky were undoubtedly having their own personal fights with Wanze and Nero.
What she didn't understand was how Lucci seemed to know that she knew something beyond what she should. He was a man who followed orders, regardless of what or who was hurt along the way. Taking an extra person with them now was so out of character for him and was made even more obvious by the questions and looks from his companions.
Which meant, he feels he knows something that he either can't, or won't explain. Which could be very bad for me. I don't think there is any other explanation that would make sense here…
Kia curled up on herself, wrapping her arms around her knees. All she could do now, was wait.
Franky was super this week, and no one could convince him otherwise.
"That was some entrance. What the hell have you been doing?" a voice next to him asked.
He turned, seeing his newest friend that he called Eyebrows- yeah, he wouldn't call me friend, but what else do you call someone that is fighting alongside you towards the same goal? - standing right behind him. "WAOW!" he cheered. "As per usual, I've been kicking ass! And you?" he replied.
"Been kicking ass," the blond responded. "So, it's them, right? The ones that kidnapped Robin?"
"Be careful," Franky warned, even as he began to stretch and loosen himself up for the rematch. "They use some pretty weird moves."
"Ah, it appears they made it after all," Lucci said as he began to walk towards them from the front of the car, kicking the body of the train's cook out of the way. He stopped in front of the weasel-looking man that Franky had just punched through the roof. "And who is this?" he asked, though it was obvious, at least to Franky, that he couldn't care less.
"According to Corgy, this is Nero, the new recruit for CP9," Kaku said from behind Lucci. Franky just grit his teeth, and continued to stretch, knowing he couldn't let these impostors best him again.
"How dare you do that to me?!" Nero said to Franky as he struggled up to a crouching position. "Forget that directive! I'm going to KILL you!"
"Hey, new guy."
Nero turned; his momentum thrown off. "Oh, you're Rob Lucci, aren't you? Probably should have introduced myself earlier. Just give me a moment, I'm going to kill that guy, and I'll be right with you."
"You're letting your emotions overrule your priorities. We're taking Franky in alive." He stopped, glancing down, and giving a smirk. "Oh, never mind. I'll give you three seconds, so hurry and run."
"Huh?" Nero asked.
"Three."
"Run? From who?!" Nero demanded, looking up at his new leader.
"Two."
"Hey, you're kidding, right?!"
"GET UP AND RUN, OR HE'LL KILL YOU!" Several heads turned towards her, but Kia was glaring at the weasel-faced man on the ground. "NOW!" she yelled, even as Lucci glanced back with a look of triumph, and Franky and Sanji were yelling out to her in surprise.
"Huh? " Nero asked nervously, then he saw that Lucci had his hand in a fist, with just the pointer finger extended. He knew that stance, he had been practicing it for weeks, but had yet to master it.
The finger pistol.
"Don't do it!" he begged.
"One."
"Stop! Please!" Nero shouted, even as he made to run. "SHAVE!" he screamed, moving quicker than Kia could see.
In a blink, he was back on the ground, groaning as he fell. Lucci twisted his hand, ensuring that his finger pistol did the most damage possible before standing.
"You have to master all six powers to be one of us, rookie." With ease, he threw the body out a window and into the ocean, not caring if he was still alive or not. "Kalifa, on the official report, note that the rookie was weak and therefore deemed worthless."
"Understood," Kalifa replied.
"These are the agents of justice?" Sanji asked, unimpressed. He turned, giving Kia a nod. "Good to see you are safe, Kia," he said.
"Sorry," she said, giving him a small smile, trying to appear nonplussed.
"I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you'd be wherever Robin was," he answered, giving her a shrug.
"For whatever good that did," she answered, not saying what she wanted to, since CP9 were there listening.
Sanji frowned, knowing Kia wouldn't give up on Robin. There was obviously something that they still weren't aware of.
"I don't have to ask why you are here, intruder," Lucci said, standing tall and gaining Sanji's attention. "From the way you open doors, it's obvious you are not a patient fellow."
"True," Sanji replied, taking a drag of his cigarette. "My parents raised me wrong."
Lucci glanced back, hearing a snort of laughter from the girl behind him. Obviously, a straw-hat pirate then.
"If you're here for Nico Robin, that is a mistake," Lucci said, frowning at him and Franky. "Her problem is beyond your comprehension."
"She's not the only one we'll be taking back," Sanji replied.
"Ha," Lucci scoffed, his knowing look condescending. "Such bravado, when you actually know nothing."
Kia stayed quiet as Lucci explained how he saw Robin's life, and though she was getting angry, he still scared the bejeezus out of her. They were in a small train car with CP9, and she didn't have her weapons, though she assumed they were somewhere on the train, since she had had them before she woke up here.
She turned with the others, as a muffled voice started shouting. The door opened, and Robin stood there, with Usopp trying to pull her back.
"Robin!" Sanji shouted happily, but Robin was staring at someone else.
"Kiana?!" she gasped in horror.
