Jessamy had Dream of the Endless' Raven for centuries, and she had never found her new life lacking. As Death had promised so long ago, Dream of the Endless had indeed gladly welcomed her presence in his life. Jessamy the human had never mattered to anybody, but Jessamy the Raven was a dear companion to her Lord. Jessamy had grown to love him quickly and greatly enjoyed accompanying him as he did his duties. When her Lord intended to go to the Waking World to bring a nightmare, The Corinthian, back to the Dreaming she perched upon his shoulder to join him. They had only just found him when something she had thought impossible happened. They were sucked into a portal and deposited onto the floor of a basement, Jessamy had been forced to flee the group of humans that had summoned them and the home they inhabited.

When The Corinthian appeared and instructed the home's owner, a Roderick Burgess, how to imprison her Lord and render him powerless, Jessamy felt a level of rage she hadn't known herself capable of. The traitoruous nightmare would pay for this. Until then, Jessamy had to find a way to free her Lord.

For years following that fateful day Jessamy watched, listened, and learned everything she could about the people within the manor. Who was important, the routines of the guards, and who she could distract or annoy enough into leaving their post. When she had pecked at the window of Roderick Burgess and heard him instruct his son to shoot her, a plan began to form in her mind. The glass prison that contained her Lord had to be thick or he would have freed himself. A bullet might be enough to free him. With this plan in mind it was easy enough to sneak into the manor and start a fire to distract the guards. Squeezing through the bars of a gate, Jessamy saw her Lord for the first time since he had been captured. Her heart ached at the sight of him. Naked and locked within a prison far too small for someone his size.

Flying forwards she landed on the globe and pecked at the glass, causing her Lord to look up at her. Slowly he raised a hand and pressed it to his side of the glass infront of her. With one more peck she turned to glide down to the floor. Quickly studying the runes on the floor she was relieved to see they were painted on. That was something she could break herself. Under her Lord's watchful gaze Jessamy worked quickly to drag her beak over the runes until she could see a clean break in the paint. The line was very thin, impossible to see unless one were to look for it, but it did the job. Her Lord once again had access to his powers. Looking up at him, the stars within his eyes glimmered with new found hope as his power swelled within the basement. No longer powerless, Dream of the Endless' lips quirked slightly, he would be free of this place soon enough.

Jessamy flew up to perch on the globe once more and silently waited for a sound to indicate Alex Burgess had discovered the door of the basement open. She did not have to wait long before she heard the door be pushed open, it's hinges squeaking ever so softly. Taking her cue, Jessamy began to loudly peck at the glass, as she heard his steps near the bottom of the stairs she prayed her plan would work. Flying off the globe she began to ram into it with her beak, hopefully weakening the glass. All the while she kept her eyes on the reflection of the basement behind her. She watched as Alex Burgess slowly entered the basement before she swiftly flew up into the rafters above her Lord. A dream she may be and therefore tougher than the average raven, but she was not bullet proof. Below her sat her Lord, muscles coiled like that of a snake preparing to strike. He stared intently at the boy as Alex Burgess' eyes drooped for a moment before he stumbled over to one of the pillars and slid down to the floor, succumbing to sleep. After a moment the boy leapt up and aimed the gun towards the globe and fired the rifle. Once, twice, three times. The third bullet caused the prison to shatter.

The prison shattering and the 'prisoner' being free shocked Alex back into awareness. Fear took over his features as he raised the rifle once more, shakily aiming at her Lord. Dream merely lifted his hand and blew sand into the boy's face, causing him to collapse in a heap. As badly as he wanted to make his displeasure known to his captors, he had more important matters to attend to. Jessamy let out a delighted caw and swooped down from the rafters to delicately perch upon her Lord's shoulder. Hardly able to contain her delight, she nipped gently at his ear. Thrilled beyond measure that he was free and that she could touch him once more. Dream lifted a hand and gently stroked a finger down the white patch of feathers on her chest. The stars within his glowing even brighter, reflecting his joy at being freed.

"Thank you Jessamy, you have done brilliantly." He murmured as he gave one last stroke before movement from around the basement caught their attention.

Dust mixed with sand and began to swirl around the room before a portal, similar to the one that brought them to this wretched place, opened before him. This time however, the portal was safe. Dream and Jessamy could feel the presence of The Dreaming tugging at them, urging them to return home. Turning, her Lord allowed himself to be pulled into the portal as she swooped in behind him. Leaving behind an unconscious Alex Burgess covered in sand and surrounded by shattered glass to later be discovered by an irate Roderick Burgess.

Dream of the Endless and his Raven were nowhere to be seen but they both planned to return to the manor. To retrieve his belongings and show the humans why he was also known as known as the Boogey Man, The Lord of Nightmares.

The Burgess family and their accomplices would succumb to the never ending sleep that had swept the world upon his capture. They would spend the rest of their lives haunted by his nightmares and if the worst of said nightmares frequently featured the echoing caws of a raven, talons carving cuts into their flesh, and swirls of black feathers rendering the world dark? Jessamy was merely aiding the nightmares and therefore doing her duty to the realm. A duty she performed happily.
