Chapter 8 – Truth
No one's POV
Tori's POV
After Jade left, I was once again alone. I know my parents were not all that thrilled about me and Jade in a relationship. It's more about Jade as a person, or a bad person as they see it, than Jade as a female. As much as I wanted to dwell on it, I needed to rest, so I decided to take a short nap. I am recovering from a concussion, so rest is needed.
I woke up about an hour later and of course my first thoughts were of Jade. Did she make it home ok? I called her and she was crying. She had seen a spot of blood on the nightstand, where my head struck it and promptly fell to pieces. Kind of ironic, since she's such a horror movie fan.
She was crying and saying how she was such a bitch. To give me an example she spoke of the time she showed up at a most inopportune time.
It was a Friday night and I hadn't seen or heard from Jade in over a month and half. Another honeymoon phase with Beck I imaged; much to my displeasure. However, several days before, I had met a girl at the local Jetbrew. She was reading a romance novel, one I had already read and loved. I commented on how good it was. We struck up a conversation and talked a bit. She was a bit taller than me, with long blond hair. Her name was Megan and she worked in the lab at a hospital. Part of me wanting to break from Jade, I took a chance and asked if she wanted to have a drink and possibly some dinner afterward, later in the week. I even texted her the day before to confirm the time and place and she responded, yes.
Flashback
It was just before 6 pm, and Tori was finishing her makeup, ready to go out. She didn't want to overdress, so she wore nice blue jeans, a nice blue print top and one of her nicer jackets. A somewhat familiar knock at the door, jarred Tori from the thoughts of her date.
Hoping she was wrong, Tori walked over and opened the door to find Jade, smirk and all, standing in the doorway.
"Don't mind if I do." Said Jade as she walked in the door. Her smirk seemed to fade somewhat as she observed that Tori appeared to be ready to be going out.
Her smirk fading ever further, Jade quipped. "Going out?"
Ignoring the fact that her heart had suddenly jumped into her throat, Tori managed to stammer. "Um….Yes. I have a date. You…."
Tori never had a chance to finish the sentence at Jade, who's face had suddenly twisted in anger, stormed out and slammed the door shut. So hard in fact, that a picture of Trina next to the door fell off the wall and broke.
Incensed at the sudden arrival and departure, ran to the door and swung it open. Seeing Jade walking down the hall, Tori yelled. "Well, Fuck you too. And hopefully soon I'll be able to be APPRECATED BY SOMEONE WHO CARES FOR ME!"
Determined even more to go ahead with this date, so she could exorcise this raven-haired demon once and for all, I finished getting ready and left for my date.
Tori arrived at the bar, a local watering spot, 10 minutes before 6:30, the time were to meet. She ordered a glass of wine for herself and with great anticipation, waited.
And waited….
And waited….
Finally, it was 6:52 and Tori was getting worried and impatient. She hoped that Megan was only late and hesitated to call or text her, as not to seem overly anxious.
Finally at 7:05 Tori broke down and texted, "Is something wrong? I'm here. We can meet somewhere else if you're running behind."
The response came about a minute later. "Couldn't make it. Sorry"
Tori instantly knew, she'd been stood up.
Crushed, Tori walked home, feeling lonelier than ever. Not able to resist, when she got home, she texted Jade, her heart a mixture of desire and bitterness.
"I hope you're happy, I got stood up. Fuck you!"
Exactly 47 minutes later there was a knock at the door. Opening it, Tori could see Jade in the doorway, with a shit eating grin on her face.
"You rang?" Taunted jade.
Stepping aside, Tori let Jade in and closed the door. No sooner than she had, she was pressed up against the door, being kissed furiously.
"Fuck you. Is that what you said Vega?" Jade taunted. "That's exactly what I plan to do."
Needing comfort and to be loved, Tori surrendered and allowed Jade to lead her into the bedroom. The I told you so, look in her eyes, was both alluring and devastating at the same time. The sex was passionate and seemed to go on forever. While she wanted it to happen, Tori couldn't help but feel cheap, almost dirty. Especially when during the act, Jade whispered. "You're mine." The worst part of that was, that deep down, Tori knew it was true.
Worn out afterwards, Tori fell asleep, having hardly said a word to Jade the entire night.
The next morning, Tori awoke and as she fully expected, Jade was gone. Alone, feeling unloved and wanting to cry, Tori sadly lamented "at least a prostitute, gets paid for it."
End flashback.
It was a rather unpleasant memory, but at least Jade has acknowledged she was wrong and hopes to make up for it. She was extremely upset, so I talked her down and told her to go to sleep. She's obviously exhausted.
Pushing that out of my mind, I turned on the tv and tried to relax.
Trina called later in the day. I could tell she was not happy, but she seemed to not want me to get worked up. In the end, she called me a fool.
No One's POV
It was just after Tori finished dinner, when Andre arrived. As his smiling face came into the room, Tori felt her spirits rise.
"Hey girl" he said as he walked in and gave Tori a quick hug. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing better. Thankfully, there's no skull fracture. Just a bad concussion."
"I can't believe he did that. Beck of all people. He's not the violent type. And Trina told me that Beck's not going to jail. What happened?"
Tori then gave Andre and update as to everything that had happened, in the last few days.
Once Tori was finished, Andre sat there for a moment, appearing to think.
"Well Andre?" Said Tori, hoping he'd appreciate the fact that Jade was finally hers.
"I don't know what to say. Other than I'm glad you're not hurt too bad."
"That can't be all that's on your mind."
"No. Um…I've watched since high school, you two endlessly damage not only each other, but Beck as well. So, at least that part will change."
"Andre, you've been a great friend. And have listen to me talk over and over about my feelings for Jade. But through this, her and I have a real chance."
"What about Beck?"
"We've both hurt beck and we've both realized that we need to do something to make up for what we've done. That's why I made sure he wouldn't do any jail time. Jade's admitted her mistakes. We can atone for our sins, so to speak. As far as him striking me, I've thought about it and I've chucked it up to temporary insanity. He's not like that."
"Yes, I know. " Noted Andre. "We all go a little mad sometimes."
"Huh."
"That's from Norman Bates in the move Psycho. "
"Like your grandmother."
Andre chuckled darkly. "She went mad and stayed that way, Bless her heart. But after all this heartache, do you really feel like you too have a chance?"
"Andre, she loves me, she really loves me." Gushed Tori.
"I'm sure Beck, thought the exact same thing once." Noted Andre, with a rather sober expression
The effect on Tori was noticeable, as she slumped down in the bed looking rather morose. Those words hurt, but they hurt because, Tori knew that they were very true. It fed her little doubts which up to now had been silent.
"She really does." Replied Tori weakly.
"Look Chica, I didn't mean to bring you down. But it's the truth and if you two are going to make it, you have to face the truth as well as atone for your past wrongs. Not to mention change your behavior. As I see it, Beck made one fatal mistake."
"What?" Tori replied, puzzled.
"He assumed he knew Jade. That he really knew her. And that's why he probably didn't make much of an effort to talk with her, really talk with her, communicate. In reality, he didn't know her at all. You." Andre said as he poked Tori in the chest. "need to communicate with Jade, really get to know her. And that's not easy, I know that. If you make the same assumption Beck did, you'll wind up in the same place.
"You're right. I hadn't really thought of it that way.
"And don't let her walk all over you, like she's been doing for years. If she's a bitch to you, then be a bitch back. But don't feel bad, she's been walking over Beck too. This is the truth of the matter; damage was done and you both need to change. This is not a simple matter of you both saying, I love you and living happily ever after. You both need to earn, that happily ever after. Because it won't come easy."
"You're right. Andre. So right." Tori then smiled. "And most wise."
"I've had a long time to think about it. I just want everyone to be happy for a change. Cause all you three have done, is to make each other miserable."
Figuring he'd lectured her enough on relationships, Andre turned to other subjects, including Tori's plans for the future. Tori said she hoped to get back to recording.
They were joined by Cat, who came to visit. While her usually perky self, she did listen to Tori's tale with a rather sober expression. She said it was good that Jade and Tori had come to realize their love for each other, but she was saddened by all the pain and loss that led up to it. Like Andre, she was disappointed in Beck, but was able to understand that this was something that was very out of character for him.
The moved on to happier subjects and stayed for more than an hour. Once they left, Tori lay in bed thinking about what Andre had said.
"I'm sure Beck, thought the exact same thing once."
She didn't want to doubt Jade or her intentions, but Tori could not deny that was the truth. Beck loved Jade. But he took things for granted and the result was near disaster. Tori had to be truthful about her part in this play.
"I betrayed a good friend by having an affair with his wife. I betrayed myself, by letting this obsession run my life. I ended up in a good place, but I had played a most dangerous game and I could have lost big." Mused Tori out loud.
Just before going to sleep later, on Tori thought about Jade and made a vow to work like hell, to make this work.
Jade's POV
I woke up, realizing I was still clutching Tori's pillow. It still smells like her, I love it. I really should find this utterly revolting, not to mention be annoyed that just the sight of this would please Tori immensely. But one loves, what one loves.
Looking at the clock next to the bed I was amazed it was just before 7:30 Am. I don't sleep all that well, but this time, I slept more than 12 hours.
I crawled out of bed and still could feel sore. The doctor told me that would pass after a few days. Checking my phone there was a text from my mom, to call her and a text from Tori.
"T Loves J" followed by a bunch of hearts.
Silly goof, but she's my silly goof.
Making my way to the kitchen I started to make some coffee. My first order of business is to file for divorce. Coffee in hand I went online and after a bit of research discovered I can fill out and file the forms online. If there were children or lots of property, things would be complicated, but this is not the case. It took me about an hour and a half to get it all done, but finally I got the forms submitted. I then felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
I didn't want to deal with him, but I needed to call Beck. To let him know about the divorce being filed and just be honest for once. I need do to it.
I called and he picked up after 4 rings.
"Jade?" He said cautiously. His voice sounded a bit ragged, as if he hadn't been sleeping. I found myself, barely caring.
"Yes. Just to let you know, I filed for divorce today. Its' all electronic. You should get a notification email with instructions on what to do next." I said with a business-like tone. "I know what you did, telling Tori I was at the hospital. I guess a thank you is in order. Thanks."
I considered telling him that I was going to kill myself, but knowing that wouldn't help him any, I kept that bit to myself.
"You're welcome. I'm sorry about Tori, I just lost my head. It..
"Never mind that." I stopped him. "She cut you some slack, because you gave me up and she needed to make up for the things she had done."
"How is she?"
"Recovering, No skull fracture, just a concussion." I said, with good dose of bitterness in my voice.
"Thank God."
I took a deep breath. "Beck, I need to do the same. I'm filing for divorce, but I'm not asking for any spousal support, all the furniture in our apartment is yours. I only want my stuff. And finally, I won't speak to the press about this."
"Uh…Thank you.
Now it was my turn to be honest. "Beck, I need to say something. I'm a bitch, a lying cheating bitch. I cheated on you with Tori since high school and played you for a fool. I couldn't give her up and she couldn't give me up. As far as us, I thought I loved you, maybe in a way I did, but it's not like Tori and me. Nevertheless, I walked all over you. I love Tori and know now, that I always had. I've lied to you since day one and here and now I'm telling you the truth. I'm sorry I hurt you, but not all that sorry. You have every right to be furious with me. Let me have it. But I just wanted to say I'm a bitch."
After a moments silence, Beck answered, his voice calm. "I understand."
That reaction is 100% pure Beck and started my blood boiling. "WHAT!" I snapped back. "You understand."
"I said, I understand."
"Bullshit Beck." I ranted as my temper exploded. "I pour my heart out, admit I'm a cheating bitch, I tell you that you have every right to be furious and all you say is, I understand. You hit Tori, but you don't have the balls to yell at me."
"I don't like getting angry." He retorted in that smug tone of voice that, always made me suspect he thought he was better than me.
"I know, you never get angry, You're always the calm one. I'm the angry one. Always trying to calm me down or just talking down at me, instead of standing up to me. Why is that?"
"I don't like to." Replied Beck, using that calm tone once again that only put me in a cold rage.
"That's why, you never truly had me." I said coldly, before I hung up.
