"Danny? Are you okay in there?" Jazz, Danny's sister, asks. "It's been two days. Could you at least come out to eat something?" After receiving no response she says "we're all here for you when your ready."
Danny had been hold up in his room for two full days. All he could think about was the final moments he had with Sam. He couldn't sleep. Every time he closed his eyes he saw the blade plunging into her chest. He just stared out the window with a blank look.
Tucker came by yesterday. He's the only one Danny would let in. They just sat together and cried. Now Danny didn't know if he had any tears left. He just felt hollow.
On the third day Danny finally came out of his room. His family, who were sitting on the couch either working on inventions or watching tv, look up and see him coming down the stairs. Danny's mother jumps up and rushes to her son. "Danny. How are you holding up?" She says while giving him a hug. He looked terrible, like you would expect from someone who hasn't eaten or slept in three days.
"Okay I guess." Danny says in an emotionless voice. "Any word on Vlad?" Immediately he is filled with anger just at the mention of his name.
"Nothing yet son. But we'll find him and make him pay for what he's done!" Jack said.
"Thanks guys. For being here. I appreciate it." Danny says. "I think I'm going to head to the ghost zone. I need a good change of scenery."
"Are you sure honey?" His mother asks. "We can come too. Follow in the speeder if you'd like."
"No thanks mom. I just want to be alone to clear my head."
"Okay well call if you need us. We'll be there!" Jack says.
"Okay." Says Danny as he's already on the way downstairs to the lab. He arrives and transforms into his ghost form, opens the portal and flies through.
After a few moments of flying he realizes he has no clue where he plans on going. He's just going. And he also realizes everyone else is giving him a pretty wide girth. 'What's going on?' he thought to himself.
Continuing on his path for another few minutes he hears something. "DANNY!" Someone shouted. Looking around he doesn't see anyone. "DANNY!" They're closer now. He looks up and that's when he realizes where the screams were coming from.
His cousin Dani is flying straight towards him. Well, not really his cousin. They've called each other that since they met. Danny really looked at her slightly like a daughter, though he would never admit it to anyone. Even through all the sorrow he can't help but show a slight smile as she rushes in for a hug. They stay like that for a long moment before Danny breaks away and asks "what are you doing here Dani? I thought you were traveling."
"Jazz called me. She told me what happened. I'm so sorry Danny." She says while pulling him to another hug. "I've been working with your folks while they search the human world for the frootloop I've been searching the ghost zone."
This called Danny's attention. "Have you heard anything?" He asks hopeful.
"No. Nothing yet. But you know how big this place is. It could take years" Replied Dani.
"That's the problem. I may not have years."
"What do you mean by that?" Dani asks concerned.
"I haven't told anyone this. I don't want to cause a panic" Danny says appraising her. "When Vlad had Sam and I, he told me he'd take away everything I cared for. Just like I did him. But he implied he would take his time."
"Why would he do that?"Dani asks thinking out loud.
"To prolong my suffering I guess" Danny says looking at the ground.
"Don't worry Danny. We'll find him."
"Please. Just be careful. I can't loose you, or anyone else again." Danny says with tears building again.
"You won't. We'll take care of the frootloop together." Dani says with a smile. This brings a smile to Danny's face again.
"Uhh...excuse me Danny?" Comes a voice from behind. Both turn to find Ember standing awkwardly.
"Ember, hey. I didn't see you." After the disasteroid Ember was one of the few ghosts that really quit causing trouble for Amity Park. She'd come around every once in a while when Danny was on patrol to see how things were going. She never caused problems anymore and Danny liked to think of her as a friend.
"I was just going by and saw you. Thought I'd offer my sympathies." She said taking Danny off guard. He never pictured Ember as the sentimental type.
Remembering Dani was here he turns to introduce them. "Ember, this is Dani, my... cousin. Dani, this is Ember. She's a friend." Hearing Danny refer to her as a friend made Ember smile. Then she realizes something.
"Umm Danny? If the two of you are cousins, how do you look just alike?" Ember asks confused.
Danny and Dani exchange glances. "It's a long story, for another time." Danny says.
"Okay. If you say so. I have to run. Need to do a few things." Ember says. "It was good to meet you Dani."
"You too Ember." Dani says with a smile.
"If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask" Ember says to Danny.
"Thanks 'Em." Danny says.
"See ya baby pop!" Ember says as she flies away.
"Baby pop?" Dani asks, eyebrow raised.
"Long story. Anyways want to head to the house and get some food? It's been a while since I've had a decent meal and to be honest I'd enjoy the company."
"For sure. You look like you haven't eaten in a while." Dani says to Danny as they take off towards the Fenton ghost portal.
"I haven't. But I feel a little bit better after talking to you and Ember. If anything I need to keep my strength up so we can find Vlad."
Hey guys. I hope y'all are enjoying the story so far. My update schedule will be a little crazy as I don't have a whole lot of free time to sit down and write. I've already got a few chapters written and will update them after I get a chance to proof read. They are going to be a little longer than this and previous chapters. Please leave me a review as this is my first fanfic. I will continue on this story as long as necessary in order to complete it. I can't stand a story that just dies off.
