I'm not sure if you get notifications when I "update" a chapter, but I've made some corrections and additions to the previous chapters to make more sense. Enjoy!
"What's with all the ruckus?" Remus complained walking down the boys' stairs followed by Sirius and James.
"We told you to let us know when they got back. Not knock them to the ground." James growled, giving Peter a slight smack to the back of his head. He just grinned and shrugged, "I couldn't help it. I saw an opportunity and I took it."
Lily stood, hands on her hips, as she looked over the group of boys. "Why are you down here? We are safe, no thanks to Peter. Now off to bed!" She tried her best to shoo them off. It was time to demand answers and those wouldn't come until they were alone. Peter grabbed a candy off the table before heading up to bed. He'd had his fun and didn't particularly care to hear whatever boring things the girls had been up to. James knew almost everything going on at Hogwarts. What he didn't know he made sure to find out. The fact whatever was going on involved Lily only made him more curious and determined to get to the bottom of it.
"Come on. We are dying to know what was so bloody important you had to go out in the freezing weather and not return until almost curfew." James had folded his arms and moved to stand in front of the girls' stairs. "We need answers. I can smell mischief a mile away and the two of you reek of it." Lily glared at James. He was barely a few inches taller than her. Getting through him wouldn't be so difficult. A simple kick to the shin might do it, but if the other two joined in…Sirius and Remus stood slightly to either side of James. Sirius looked as determined as James while Remus looked as if he was about to nod off as he leaned back against the wall.
"I'd simply forgotten we had promised to meet there and go for a while. Nothing special happened. We talked and then went to the library before coming back." She lied. Her smile was equal parts sarcasm as it was fake. She took a step closer to James. Challenging him."Whether you believe me or not isn't going to change anything." The pair of them stood like that for a few moments. When it seemed like neither would give in, Vivian finally spoke up pleading with Sirius.
"It really wasn't..anything. Please just let us go up." She spoke softly. Confirmation was usually something she avoided though she'd found herself being more bold since coming to Hogwarts. Her headache had begun on the walk back and was now becoming a soft throbbing behind her eyes. James looked between them both before a gentle nudge from Sirius had him backing down. Remus pushed off the wall while holding the bridge of his nose. His face was contorted in pain.
"Come on, let's get Remus to bed." Sirius said. Both the boys helped guide the rather sick looking Remus back upstairs. The boys would figure out what was going on one way or another. There wasn't much they couldn't find out.
"Do you think he's alright?" Lily whispered. While the quieter one of the group Remus was just as active as any of the boys. For him to seem so sick was worrying. Vivian shrugged, preoccupied by her headache to focus on much else.
"The boys will take care of him I'm sure. I know you have questions and I will answer them I promise, but I need to sleep."
"But you said-" Lily started off angrily before Vivian cut her off.
"I know," she sighed, rubbing her temples. A glance over to their two other roommates assured her everyone else was still asleep. "I have…dreams okay? Every time I've had a headache I've had a dream. I don't know what they mean, just that the basilisk plays a part and right now the headache is coming full force."
"That's why you won't go..to the hospital wing I mean. You're worried someone will find out you're a seer."
Vivian snorted. "Or they'll find out I'm crazy."
"You're not." Lily said. Vivian wasn't so sure these days. Though having someone seem so sure was a bit comforting. Lily might have said something else, but the dream was already pulling her into a deep sleep.
She was back in the dungeon place. The girl still laid unmoving on the floor. The boy stood next to her talking this time to another boy with a ghost-like appearance. The ghost pointed a want and spelt out TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE. Then with a flick the words began to move into I AM LORD VOLDEMORT. The scene blurred, making her head ache. Then the boy was there again plunging a basilisk tooth into the book. The ghost - Tom - screamed and then he was gone. Leaving the boy and the girl alone.
Sun glinted off the mirror causing Vivian to stir. She rolled over and opened her eyes to find Lily perched on the side of her bed idly reading through "Hogwarts A History".
"All this mysterious stuff you've been hiding seems to deal with that Legend I mentioned earlier. Here it states that Salazar Slytrhin made a Chamber of Secrets back when the school was built. It supposedly housed a horrid monster. Which from what I gather is the basilisk you inquired about." She closed the book and turned to face Vivian better. "Now my question is, do you know where the chamber of secrets is? If you do then why haven't you told any of the teachers? If there's a monster lurking about, they should be told." Vivian blinked groggily a few times before pulling herself up to sit.
"Just going to jump straight into it, eh? You do realize it's the last day before classes start?" Lily simply stared at her, lightly tapping the book in her lap as she waited. With a groan Vivian thought for a moment on where to start.
"I've seen the chamber in my dreams. I know where it is. I know how to open it. I also know how to kill the basilisk. I haven't told anyone because I'm not sure if any of it is real. They could be nightmares." Oh how she hoped that was true. "I could take the teachers there and make a total buffoon of myself if they even believed me to begin. Second, I don't know how to close it. Once it's open, if I can even open it, there will be a basilisk with full access to the school. Third, I need something from the snake." Lily sat there a moment before going over to her chest. This was like the quests she had read about growing up and the very basics of a quest was a solid plan. That and a handful of people with different talents. She had just the notebook for the chest creaked at the hinges as she opened it and pulled out a notebook with a soft beige cover and golden embellishments and quill.
"Alright! What's first?"
"Well…I know where and how to open the chamber and from what Hagrid told us last night we may need to borrow one of his roosters."
"I still find it bizarre that such a powerful creature can be taken down by the crow of a rooster of all things. The more I learn about the magical world, the more odd it seems. Alright, so we steal - I mean borrow - a rooster and take it to the entrance. Then what? Just carry it down and hope it crows at the right time?"
"I guess? I don't exactly see any other way. Though to leave our fate to a rooster seems…"
"Foolish? Absurd? Irrational?" Lily frowned at her notebook. Magic simply didn't work on this snake. What did that leave them with? "We need distractions to keep the snake occupied until the rooster crows. I think we know a handful of boys who know a thing or two about distractions. Do you think they'd let us have some of those light explosive things they set off right before winter break?" Vivian smiled in relief. Part of her had started to worry about bringing Lily into something so apparently dangerous, but there was no doubt Lily was quick witted and smart.
"That might just work. I wonder if any of their things could cause blindness or loss of smell. Their explosives aren't just magic strictly speaking. It definitely wouldn't hurt to try." The problem would be trying to convince the boys to hand over their toys without telling them anything. After last night's stand off it was unlikely they'd just let it go.
