Chapter Two
Carlos
"We are here Dorothy-Ann" my Dad says to me breaking my day dream "and there's your friend Carlos". I looked through the windscreen of Dad's car and spotted Carlos immediately "Thanks Dad, i will see you later, i'll see you at home" i told him as i got out of the car. Dad blow me a kiss and drove away. I waved goodbye before i started to walk over to Carlos who was standing just outside the main gates of the planetarium "Hey DA! Was wondering when you were going to get here!" i heard him shout to me. I rolled my eyes as i walked towards him with my bookbag on my shoulder, "see you still use that bookbag from elementary school" Carlos continues "so what Carlos? Its still in good condition and it still carries my books, i'm lost with out my books!" i answered to him. He and I looked at each other and began to laugh "Good to see ya DA!" "You to Carlos!" i said to him happily. "Well, i hear that they have completely renovated the Planetarium and include new exibits and displays" i say to Carlos as we both stood to look at the building "Yeah apparently the old one was getting a bit shabby, so they decided to give it a revamp" says Carlos. "Well shall we go inside?" he asked as we watched others from the general public make they way in "yes lets" i answered back to him.
Carlos and I walked into the newly renovated Planetarium. Everything seemed newly revamped as Carlos mentioned a give away was the strong smell of fresh paint in the air. We walked into the lobby and from the moment go there was something to look at everywhere you looked. There were rooms that lead to seprate exibits about space and as well as old ones that we given a refresh. There were quite a few people walking around young and old, this sort of stuff you are never too young or old to learn about space. "Impressive but..." i hear Carlos mumble "but what?" i asked him "oh ah... i wonder what the new space stimulation will be like" he then answered back to me. I wondered if he was going to say "but nothing like the amazing sites we saw or learnt about on our field trips to outa space when we were kids with our class and Ms Frizzle", maybe thats coming i wasn't sure. Has he forgotten our magical past?
We obtained a map from the lobby assistant to map out were we would like to go "so Carlos what do you want to see first?" i asked him "The Space History Room? The Planets & Stars Room? The Astronauts & Rockets Room or want to sit back and watch a show on the space stimulator?. I was mapping out all these wonderful options for us to see but i could see that Carlos mind was else where "earth to Carlos?" i asked as i gentley punched him in the arm. "Ha what? Oh sorry...yeah they all sound great DA, how about we just walk around in no particular order hey?" Carlos asked as he turned to face me. I nodded with a smile and a quick raise of the shoulders as we started to walk around "knowing you DA you are mostly going to be taking notes about the exibits" Carlos said as he laughed "Nnnnoooooo!" i quietly said as i looked down towards the floor. I am known for that he knows me too well as well as all my other friends. I will confess, i do have a notebook and pen in my bookbag that i was still carrying on my shoulder. We walked around checking out all the exibits and noticing all the types of people visiting too. I swear Carlos and I thought we saw Arnold cousin Janet in a distance but it we sighed in relief as it was just a lady with long red hair. As we finished looking at the Planets and Stars Room we were back in the lobby again, i decided to test Carlos to see if i could jot his memory about Ms Frizzle's and her sister's Fiona's field trips "i'm surprised your not bored with this Carlos? Nothing like we have seen in the past right?". Carlos seemed annoyed "Hey do i seem bored to you DA? Space is cool and still is but as you say nothing like we have seen in the pa...". Carlos stopped and froze "Carlos? Are you alright?" i asked as i stood beside him "that lady with the long red hair, i swear that was Ms Frizzle!" "Carlos are you feeling ok?" i asked him in concern. "Yeah, it didnt occur to me at first but i swear that was Ms Fiona Frizzle" Carlos said to be excitedly, i smiled as i was just as excited as he was. I was wanted to go and find her and say "hello", i turned to face Carlos who was still beside me and suggested that we look for her. He agreed with a smile.
We ran around for ages, battling crowds and crashing into planetarium staff but we could not find her. Carlos and i even decided to separate to cover more ground but she had vanished. We met back up and reported back to each other that we had no luck "are you sure you saw Fiona Frizzle Carlos" i asked him "POSITIVE DA!" Carlos shouted, he shouted so loudly that everyone in the planetarium heard him. They all paused and looked at us. We apologized as they all then continued on with their day. I then thought it was a great opportunity to ask Carlos my burning question "So you do remember our advenutres in outa space Carlos?", he then turned to face me with one of his cheeky smiles "of course DA how could i forget those magically crazy field trips with both of the Frizzle sisters! I was just testing ya to see if you remembered too!" he answered in a cheeky voice. I then slapped him (not hard) with a smile on my face while rolling my eyes once again at him "CARLOS!".
"So anyway, lets go and see the space stimulation shall we and see if its as good as the real thing" Carlos kindly asked me. He nodded and agreed that, that should be our next move. As we walked towards the stimulation room, we entered another kind of lobby like room, we were the only ones in there, Carlos tapped me on the shoulder "hey DA, what's that room? Is that on the map?" he asked. I looked on the map and then looked back up at the double doors opposite to the doors to the space stimulation in confustion "its not on our map" i answered back to him. Carlos then walked towards the doors, "hey look there is a sign on one of the doors" he says i immediately asked him as i walked towards him curiously "well what does it say?". "Space Shuttle Control Panel Stimulation" Carlos red out, then underneath it we both spotted the word "NEW" in bold capital letters "its probably so new that it hasn't been printed on the maps yet" i said in amazement. We both looked at each other then back at the sign. I really wanted to try it just for fun, i secretly hoped that Carlos wishes to do the same "Wanta try it, we could be the first ones to ever try it!" Carlos asks me. I beamed the biggest smile on my face "lets do it, what could go wrong?".
