–WFI–Chapter 10 Friday, July 23

Today was THE big day. Emily 'Em' Lorelai Huntzburger turns 5. To say she is excited would be an understatement. Em was born at night, so Rory was not able to carry on the tradition of waking her up to tell her the story of her birth. She always tried to talk to Em at 11:55 pm on July 23, but it did not always work out. Em was the first up. She made sure everyone was awake.

She said, "Today is my day. Everyone up" This was the announcement she made at the bottom of the stairs that goes to the dorm. This also happens to be right outside her parent's bedroom.

"Who's idea was it to have another child?" Rory asked as she looked at the clock. "Em, it's not 6:00 yet," Rory said. The little girl that Logan called his princess opened the bedroom door and took a running leap into the middle of the bed. Logan moved just in time. If not there would be no question as to if there would be another child.

Rory and Logan got up. They stopped her from waking anyone else up. They took her downstairs. The 3 of them enjoyed a quiet breakfast together. Afterward, they convinced the little miss birthday girl to watch TV for a few minutes. It didn't take long and she was asleep. Logan just shook his head. Rory asked if he hired extra security for the party?

"Yeah, but Paul doesn't seem to think any of the things going on around here are connected to us." He told her.

"What does Dillon say?" She asked.

"He hasn't. He is working on an angle that I suggested." Logan said.

"And that would be?" She asked.

"Katie and Brenda," Logan said. He stood up from the bar stool.

"I understand Katie, but Brenda? She is in Japan. Has been for 4 years. I couldn't tell you the last time Ricky saw her other than video chats. Ricky hasn't mentioned her lately. I just assumed everything was okay with them." Rory said.

"You don't think it's weird that she has no input on the engagement party or wedding?" Logan asked.

"No, she sent money to pay for a party planner. She will be here for the wedding. I assumed her not coming to the party was because she couldn't get away from both. I mean they are only 2 weeks apart." Rory said.

"You know her better than I do, but it couldn't hurt to look into it," Logan said. "Hell, nor high water would keep me away from the engagement party or wedding of any of the three that belong to us, nor would it keep me away from Samuel or Joshua's. Just saying."

"Does Ricky know?" She asked. The last thing she wanted was to have Ricky be upset with her or Logan.

Logan nodded. "He was okay with it."

Rory went to the living room where Em was asleep on the couch. She sat there and put Em's head in her lap and was running her fingers through her hair. Rory was thinking how blessed she was to have this child. She loves her boys. They are special in their own way, but so was Em.

The day she was born was ingrained in her brain, not only because of her birth, which was a miracle within itself, but the real miracle was that Mitchum, Luke, and Christopher didn't go to jail. She smiled and shook her head thinking back.

Everyone was in the room. Logan was introducing Em to everyone in the room when Nurse Nancy came in. She thought for sure she would make everyone leave, but she didn't. She whispered in Logan's ear and gave him a business card. She heard what Nancy said and raised an eyebrow to Logan. This act was observed by Mitchum, Luke, and Christopher. They knew something was up. They cornered Logan and he told them that a female left her number for the nurse to call when everyone left. Mitchum insisted that Logan call the number. He did. It went straight to voicemail. It was Shira's voice. Logan left a message to never contact his family again. As soon as he hung up, Christopher's phone started ringing. He answered it. It was Lana. She wanted to meet with Christopher. He agreed. The three men were sure the two calls were together. That could only mean Lana and Shira had teamed up.

Christopher, Luke, and Mitchum went to meet with Lana. When they got to the diner, It was Lana and Shira. That's where the miracle comes in. There was yelling and screaming. At one point Luke was slapped. The police were called. Shira was locked up for assault. She slapped Luke. He pressed charges. She was let go with a slap on the wrist. This would always be a part of the memory of Em's birth. Rory was shaking her head. The other things that happened were not on the day Em was born, but it was also a part of the memory.

When Logan heard that Shira was in town. He stripped her of everything he still had the responsibility for. Shira had gotten remarried to a wealthy hedge fund manager. She had moved back to New York with him. Logan took her to court for breach of contract, he was given the title to the home he bought her in California. He filed a restraining order immediately on all property owned by him or Rory.

Christopher and Lana ended up in court over the property because the prenup was not iron-clad. She hired a Lawyer that knew how to get around the law with multi properties. Christopher ended up giving Lana the family house on Martha's Vineyard.

These are the memories associated with Em's birth.

Rory didn't get to sit with Em for long. The dorm woke up ready to party. They came down the stairs looking for Em. By the time they got to her, she was waking up. She was smiling. Chris picked her up, the other 4 grabbed her and turned her sideways. They carried her around the house. She was laughing, they were singing ? Happy Birthday ? way off-key. Logan was in the office, Lorelai was in the kitchen with Honor. They both stepped to the side so that they could march around the kitchen with Em. By the time they stepped out of the deck, Mitchem, Cynthia and Jessi were standing watching. Everyone was laughing and clapping.

After lunch, they brought the cake and presents out. Em had a great day. She enjoyed being the center of attention. She got all sorts of pretty dresses from Christopher and Leslie. She got several Barbie dolls from Mitchum and Cynthia along with clothes to have a fashion show for Barbie and her friends. The boys gave her a Barbie camper and a Barbie dream house. Karson and Ricky gave her a set of Barbie luggage. Em went to bed that night with a smile on her face.

Honor's phone had been ringing all day. She silenced after the first two times, but Logan could hear it vibrate. He made a mental note to ask her about the phone calls. He was sure it was Shira.
