Notes: This was written in response to a challenge on the FAKEML to write a fic about Ryo and a cat.. I don't think this is quite what Wildfyre had in mind though... I blame it on Pixie Wings, though. I would never have had this idea if not for her.

Summary: Ryo is not at all happy about the costume Dee picked out for him.
Warnings: shonen ai, fluff

"I am not going out like this."

Dee turned around and grinned. "But you look adorable!"

His blonde partner scowled in his direction before turning his own attention back to the bedroom mirror. "I'm a twenty eight year old police officer, Dee. I'm not supposed to be 'adorable'."

Chuckling faintly, Dee twisted around to straighten out the black cat's tail attached to the back of his skin tight black jeans. Once he was satisfied, he stuck his head in front of Ryo's so that he could use the mirror to make sure that his whiskers and ears were on right. Finished, he took a moment to admire his reflection. "Well, what do you think? Am I not the best looking tom cat that ever prowled the streets of New York City?"

Dark eyes rolled in response. "Humble, aren't you?" Ryo gave him a quick up and down look. "Where are your paws?"

"Cal has them in the living room."

"Why are we dressing like this again?" Ryo asked.

The dark haired detective grinned at him. "We promised Penguin we'd take the kids trick or treating."

"I know that," his companion snapped with a frown, while reaching up to adjust his own ears. "I just don't understand why we have to get all dressed up."

"Where's your Halloween spirit, Ryo? It's just one night." Of course, he wasn't going to tell the man that Bicky and Cal were waiting outside with a camera to make sure this one night lived on for posterity. "Lighten up. Have fun."

"Easy for you to say," Ryo grumbled. "You get to be a cat."

Dee didn't bother to hide his smirk. His partner should have known better than to give him carte blanche on deciding what costumes they were going to wear. "You're adorable," he repeated. "Now hurry and finish up. We don't wanna be late."

With that, the taller of the pair sauntered out of the room, his tail swooshing behind him.

Cal handed him the paw-like gloves that went with his costume and smiled at him. "So, is he gonna come out?" The kids knew all about the costumes, of course. They'd been with him when he'd picked them out.

"Yeah. You know he'd never disappoint the kids. Where's Bick with the camera?"

A bright flash answered the question as Bicky appeared from the kitchen, camera in one hand and a smirk on his face. "Hey moron."

Rolling his eyes, Dee refused to get into a bickering match with the teen. He was much more interested in waiting for Ryo.

"Hey, Dee, have you seen-" Another bright flash cut off Ryo's question as he stepped into the living room. "Bicky!"

Before the Japanese American could kill his foster son, Dee stepped in and grabbed him by the arm. Cal handed him Ryo's gloves as he dragged his partner to the door. "Don't stay out too late, kids!" he called over his shoulder.

Bicky took another picture before waving at them. "Sure, whatever. Don't steal the candy from the kids, Dweeb."

Dee flipped him off good naturedly and then the pair were off.

Three days after Halloween, Bicky's final photograph of the pair of them mysteriously made it up onto the bulletin board at the 27th precinct.

Dee lost track of the number of people who asked him if his 'mouse' had tasted as yummy as he looked.
