Ga Rei Hime

Chapter Eighteen

Arika Yumemia worked at City Hall in Fuka as an executive assistant. In theory it was a high level job, but in practice she was a glorified goffer. Still, it paid well and would look good on her resume, eventually.

"Miss Fumi, I'm heading out now," Arika reported to the Mayor's assistant and (she heard) private maid. Kinky...

"Thank you for staying late," Fumi smiled back at her warmly. She added, "I'll let the Mayor know you helped out."

"Thank you, ma'am," Arika said, the slim young woman hurrying out.

Miss Fumi came across as a sweet, kinda spacy woman but Arika got the sense that there was something OFF about her. What, she wasn't sure of, but she got a feeling of danger from her. She certainly didn't want to hang around much.

Arika made sure her workspace was tidy, then checked out officially. She headed by the security desk and waved, "Have a nice night."

"You too," the older man nodded.

The police station wasn't far, and Arika hurried over, eager to see her girlfriend. "Afternoon, Arika," the old sargent manning the front desk waved.

"Hi, Officer," Arika waved.

"Arika," he nodded, "she's in the back, sorting files."

"Thanks," Arika hurried by him.

Nina was sorting papers as Arika snuck in. She paused, admiring her serious looking girlfriend, dressed in her starched, crisp uniform.

"Nina-chan!" she yelled then glomped her.

"ACK!" Nina yelped as they both fell over.

"Missed me?" Arika purred into her ear.

"Get off," Nina complained, blushing furiously.

Arika hopped off, then helped her girlfriend up. "You're cute when you're all flustered," she said cheerfully.

Still blushing, Nina brushed herself off as she explained why she was still working, "Sorry, I lost track of time."

"I'm a bit early," Arika admitted. "I'll wait while you end shift."

"Yeah, I need to let Sara know I'm leaving," Nina nodded.

Arika fought down a twinge of jealousy over that. She knew they were just coworkers, but Sara was VERY good looking, in a sporty dyke kind of way...

"Is she still running off without you?" Arika asked as they left the filing room.

"Yes, darn it," Nina sighed.

Mashiro Kazahana was an occultist. But not one of those 'has sex orgies and hail satan; types, she was scientific about it. Not that she'd object to a orgy...

"Mistress," Fumi said respectfully.

"Ah, sorry, was distracted," Mashiro admitted, the pretty woman sitting in her wheelchair.

"I brought your tea," Fumi poured the drink for her. "Did you want somrething to eat, ma'am?" she asked.

"No, I'm fine," Mashiro shook her head.

"The mercenaries brought in a new subject," Fumi noted. "It's in the holding pen."

"Good," Mashiro smiled as she wheeled over.

"Hssss!" the serpent woman made an incoherent angry noise.

"Ah, a Naga. Sadly not one of the smart ones," Mashiro calmly noted as it mindlessly tried to break free.

The Naga tried to claw at them, raging visciously.

"What would you like us to do, Miss?" Fumi asked respectfully.

"We'll need to disect it. Kill it for me," Mashiro said casually.

"Of course," Fumi said brightly.

"Hrr?" the Naga made a curious noise as Fumi calmly stepped closer, somehow sensing it was in danger.

With an inhuman burst of speed Fumi grabbed the Naga's head. Totally ignoring it's attempt to struggle, she casually broke it's neck. Then, in a eerily casual manner, she tore the head clean off the now limp body.

"Messy," Mashiro noted as gore dripped on the floor, "did you have to do that?"

"Her body is like a snake, therefore the neck break might not actually kill her," Fumi noted. "I would not wish her to revive on the operating table."

"Point," Mashiro agreed.

"Shall I carry it to the dissection table, Miss?" Fumi asked.

"Yes, thank you," Mashiro nodded. She mused aloud, "Hopefully we can extract useful biological materials."

Mashiro was hoping to extract the healing and recovery factors that many monsters had. Both for general medical research, as well as to heal the damage to her spine...

"OH FUCK!" Mai Tokhia yelped as the woman set the goblins afire, the mop of the brutes spilling out of the woods.

"Language," Natsuki Kasugawa chided her teasingly, pistols in each hand as she shot two goblins in the face.

"Ack, these are so gross tho!" Mai comnplained, the horrible smelling and obviously horny creatures nearly dogpiling her.

Thankfully, the creeps could sense that Natsuki was undead, so they didn't go for her. Or at least not as much. "How are you for firepower?' she checked, shooting three more in rapid succession.

"I'm still pretty good," Mai admitted, her pyrokinetic ability making red fire swirl dangerously around her hands.

Natsuki kicked a goblin away then shot it. "There has to be a next nearby," she said flatly, "your fire is our best chance to destroy it."

"Oh joy," Mai groaned.

"Augh, this is awful," Nao Yuuki complained, the redhead having caught up with them.

"Ah may need to shower for hours," Shizuru Fujino agreed, the taller brown haired woman scowling fiercely. Her naginata (a curved blade at the end of a pole, basiucally) was dripping gore from chopping the things down.

Without really thinking about it, Natsuki edged away from her a bit. "Where's Mikoto and Rena?" she checked.

"Bogged down killing a swarm of goblins," Nao noted flatly.

"There should be a next nearby," Shizuru noted, echoing Natsuki without meaning to, "we need to destroy it and the eggs."

"Eggs?" Nao blinked.

"Goblin biology isn't human," Shizuru noted. She looked over at Mai, "Can you...?|

"Yeah, just get me there," Mai agreed grimly.

"I'll take point," Natsuki said briskly, reloading her pistols.

Mai decided that goblins were the worst monster ever. Just reaching the nest was awful, and all of them were filthy with blood and gore. Worse was the ruined bodies of men and women they found, used to feed the young.

"FUCK," Nao cursed, using her threads to cisciously tear apart two nearby goblins.

"... can we retrieve the bodies?" Shizuru had to ask.

"Would you want to know they had been used like this?' Natsuki asked flatly. "Better to burn it all down," she said.

"She's right," Nao agreed.

"Burn it all," Shizuru agreed, sighing.

Rena and Mikoto caught up soon, and they watched the cave burn. "We should search the area, find any stragglers," Rena suggested grimly.

"This is the worst day ever," Nao noted flatly.

"You know, you shouldn't avoid Shizuru so obviously. I think it hurts her feelings," Mai noted to Natsuki, the two patrolling together.

"Tough," Natsuki said dryly.

"Hey," Mai frowned, "don't be a ass."

Natsuki reached out and grabbed Mai's hand, "Feel that?"

"It's cool," Mai blinked.

"Miss, I'm DEAD. The only reason I'm walking and acting is that Yomi infused me with necromantic energy. And I could just... stop, at any time," Natsuki said. "There's no way I should be encouraging your friend."

"... ah," Mai said quietly.

To be continued...

Notes: I have too decide what Fumi's background is going to be. Might be a ex-Hunter who decided the money was better working for Mashiro. Or might be a entity herself. We'll see...

Monsters in the Ga Rei series are a LOT nastier than in Mai Hime, generally. Also inspired by Goblin Slayer, a bit.
