Once upon a time, four children stumbled into a magical through a wardrobe, where they became Kings and Queens. Their names were Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. You might have read some stories about them before. This story is not about them, not directly. This is about what happened after they left Narnia.

If you have read the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, you know that King Peter, Queen Susan, King Edmund, and Queen Lucy were lost to Narnia during the Hunt for the White Stag that would grant wishes if you caught it. What you don't know is the great confusion that their disappearance threw Narnia into. That is what I intend to tell you of now. So if you are interested, pull up a chair and listen to this old girl weave you a tale of long ago in Narnia.

When the members of their court in Cair Paravel realized that the Kings and Queens were not coming back from the Hunt when they were due, their appointed Regent, Mr. Beaver, sent out a search party consisting of twenty Talking Dogs, a score of Centaurs, and four Dwarves. They found no sign of the Royal Siblings themselves, only their gifts from that first Christmas so many years ago. There was King Peter's sword and shield with the red Lion emblazoned across it, Queen Susan's bow and quiver (her Horn was nowhere to be found, and it grieved the court terribly), and Queen Lucy's Cordial. The courtiers that had accompanied them on the Hunt verified that they had been carrying these treasures with them when they had left them.

Mr. Beaver called a meeting the next day. It was obvious to him that he could not himself rule Narnia. It was well known that only a Son of Adam or a Daughter of Eve could rule in this land. Whatever were they, the simple Talking Animals of Narnia, to do? They could not rule themselves, this they knew. Aslan would not approve. Mr. Beaver stayed deep in talks with his councilors for many days. Finally, the best plan they could come up with was to send an envoy to Archenland and the Castle of Anvard. Surely the King there could help.
