Author's notes: Well, I'm back everybody. I warned that study will slow my progress.
Now RWBY ice queendom ep 12 was released. Honestly it was expected that the cast would win but they had me in certain moments. And all in all the show is decent enough. And now RT decided to make English dub. I'm glad that they are making it but I released that there would be problems with mouths moving since different languages aren't meant to be dubbed perfectly and when the dub appeared I was right.
RWBY writing is more misguided and a missed opportunity and meh than bad in my opinion. Believe I have my fair share of negative comments.
And it appears that my plan for 10 k words per chapter won't be achievable for now. Expect the chapters to be around 5 k at best but it will probably be around 4 k.
My opinion towards 4.0 update isn't great because it didn't add much. As I said I prefer more lore.
Also, I know that it's late to say but thanks Aduposki for your positive comments. I will do my best to write this story and reacting to all your comments and make sure I won't do any errors.
And here comes the story.
While Traveler is sleeping, Telamon concludes the choice yesterday about staying longer: thanks to this course of action, they managed to learn capabilities of fighters and managed to learn a new type of black and white creature which Traveler decided to name Zhalo (Stinger) while walking away and get more info about the settlement and a little bit of local technology such as firearms, the sword that also functions as a gun and most interestingly that hammer. The people however are probably the most important discovery.
There are biological questions about them. Traveler called one of them a guy because it was one of the few words, he could describe the people right now. It's not known if those people had genders or not. But this is side speculation that doesn't matter much.
The more important thing is that that guy with a hammer ran surprisingly fast and jumped high and slammed with impressive force. The strength is too much for that size and mass. if Traveler didn't wear an exosuit with backpack and wore clothes like that he wouldn't be able to do such feat and with exosuit he can't do that either. And so Telamon notes that the hammer wielder is not fully similar with Traveler and something must've given that guy the power. Even with adrenaline this was too much of a feat. Telamon suspects that there could be major differences in biology and concludes that they both need to stay away from those fighters.
The translator program still needs more info ,though the program managed to learn that the sounds they made were probably nothing new to Traveler. And the program managed to do that thanks to lips movement. But the meaning of what were the people saying is unknown and will be hard to understand and writing will be even harder to understand.
But on the other hand, they lost an hour of making prosses of going back home and that could cost everything they both know. There wasn't any space technology around only ground and naval one. For now at least. Telamon is glad that after 16 days of both local and Travelers's home planet time since the arrival nothing important happened but it doesn't want to test 160 days. And this raises questions. While Atlas could survive without Telamon for some time it appears to be too stable here. Here don't appear "problems" , there is no sentinel presence for now and the frequencies don't work.
In the end Telamon came to the most logical conclusions. First is that they are truly in a lower level second is the "corruption" trying to do something.
Then Telamon concludes that this action was a tactical victory but highly likely a strategic defeat.
Traveler wakes up from his sleep and stands up and feels discomfort from the sleep.
He notes to himself:" Как же я скучаю по более нормальным местам сна (How much I miss the more normal places of sleep)".
Now Traveler tries to remember what happened and now remembers yesterday.
And now he decides what to do now.
"Начнем с населения (Let's begin with the the setlement)". he says to himself
"С расстояния еще можно что-то узнать о населении но чтобы узнать мелкие детали нужно установить близкий контакт но даже с технологией невидимости я могу быть замечен ,так как технология не останавливает звук (From range there could be learned more about the settlement but to fully know the little details close contact have to be made. Even with invisibility tech I could get spotted since the tech doesn't stop sound)". he rationalizes to himself
He then concludes to himself "В таком случае лучше держаться по дальше In this case It's better to stay far)".
He understands it but inside some part of him is disappointed because he finally gets to see more like him. But he understands the negatives of contact.
Then he thinks what to do next.
He then remembers "Еще могли остаться мои следы (There could be my tracks left behind)".
Nut then he tries to remember if there were any trails starting with the mine with as much details as possible.
"Ничего не случилось (Nothing happened)". He commentes
Then he decides to follow the plans.
But before that he realises : "Но что то должно быть сделано с кристаллами (But something must be done with the crystals)".
As he is thinking he rememberes one talk with Traveler Lup.
Странное имя но у каждого свои странности (A strange name but everybody has their own weirdness) he comments to himself.
What was important is that Lup supposedly found Travelers that speak different languages. This wasn't news because some Travelers decide to make their own languages using signs or voice because some found it exciting to make a language by themselves some create it for military purposes and others for other reasons. This normally should've been left to some linguist geeks but this wasn't the case. Lup found that those Travelers speak not their common language and don't know it. This could be explained that Lup found those language Geeks. But he found enough evidence proving his discovery. Traveler at that time speculated that either Lup probably could be wrong or lied or Atlas is trying to achieve it's goal by not only doing different bodies but voices. Which was in line of possibilities. But this raised questions. And so Lup went to investigate further a couple of months ago before this planet. Traveler knew that this had to be investigated but asked Lup to be careful. So much bad happens to poor souls in such situations.
And this information is important here because what if Lup was here? Or will be here? What if Lup misunderstood the possible people here for Travelers?
But then he remembers that Telamon doesn't like breaking of order and could possibly get rid of Lup.
He turns and asks Telamon "Ты знаешь что случилось с Лапом? (Do you know what happened to Lup?)
To which Telamon shakes the scanner.
Traveler hopes that Telamon doesn't lie
And then he looks at the mine and back at the cart with crystals. He realizes that he could just take crystals or get rid of them all. But the miners would notice a cart here and they could notice missing crystals. And getting rid of crystals is also a waste of opportunity to explore. But realizes that sometimes inefficient disposure of resources has to happen since laying off crystals would take to long and it's irrational.
Then he remembers that his irrationality led to all this situation. He could've been just a "normal" living being instead of going into all of this despite his rational side telling not to go trhough all of that.
But he still questions between of going in and laying the crystals and just going with an easy way.
And the biggest problem in getting back everything in there is that these creatures could bury him and Tel underground. They were lucky enough the first and second time but third is questionable. And simply just letting to slide the cart down the rails won't work since the path of the rails won't allow that. Technology like drone could help but it would take too much time to make it and it still could be buried underground. And if the possible people managed to fight their way through and get here and he would let everuthing stay the way it is they would notice the cart and could send search parties which equals a search for him and Tel which equals either trouble or help. And he learns towards the first option.
So he thinks what to choose a noble decision or a pragmatic one.
Bit then suddenly comes to conclusion that would appease moral side and partially the pragmatic one.
Instead of either destroying or getting back the cart and crystals why not just hide it?
While the pragmatic side isn't convinced just as moral but it still better than to leave it here. And this way the crystals will remain. He perfectly understands that they could also find it in possible hiding spot they could start searching but at least nothing will be lost and besides there didn't appear to be much left in the mine and with those creatures will deter anyone coming through and if they manage to fight their way in they could say that they might misremembered the number of equipment and go. After all a cart and a few crystals aren't hopefully a big loss.
But before doing that he looks at the byproducts of the last 4 crystals. From the fire that was started by the red crystal only scorched ground remained. From the blue one that created ice, only water remained that by the looks it will soon disappear. The rocks from the brown one still remained. And the wind from the green one changed nothing special.
Just in case he decides to cover these too.
After a few minutes he manages to move some rocks away from the mine then he sweeps dust to the scroched ground with his feet the best he can and the water was covered by the rest of the rocks left from the brown crystal and after letting the rocks to collect water on their surface, he puted the rocks in the same location as the rest of the rocks. He then looks at what is left of water and sees that it'll soon disappear. He hopes it'll disappear fast enough.
And then he says "Теперь кристаллы и тележка (Now the crystals and the cart)".
Traveler then says his plan about crystals and since Telamon wants to go faster and since it can't speak much it agrees in order not to delay the procces and that it might be a good idea to cover the tracks.
And so he begins to hide the crystals.
He looks around. He decides to hide crystals not in the direction of the road since it would blow cover. So that leaves the opposite direction. He takes the cart with crystals a few couple hundred meters away in a stealthy place and then hides it with rocks.
Traveler hopes that that it would be written off as a bad memory for miners.
Then he says to himself "Я не назвал последнее существо (I didn't name the last creature)".
"Хм... может кошмар, череп, или крик (Hm... maybe Koshmar (Nightmare), Cherep (Skull), or Krik (Scream) )? he thinks to himself.
"Лучше уж Череп (Cherep (Skull) is better).
"Это имя хорошо годится ему (This name suits it well)" he comments.
He turns and asks Tel "Тел внеси последнее существо как череп (Tel name the last creature as Cherep)".
Telamon nods and does it because it got nothing much else to do since other things do not have major progress.
After fully dealing with dilemma and taking care of the cart and crystals he decided what to do next.
All evidence that he was here is pretty much minimal but there is probability that a settlement nearby amd and somehow, he and tell must get off the planet. Both options he thought about earlier.
And then he says to himself "На будущее лучше пока не иметь возможных следов что я тут (For the future it's better not to have possible trails that I was here)".
He then remebers the abbandoned setlement.
After complete looking around the Setlement the only thing that is left to study are the roads.
But before that he realises that he has to make sure that there are no tracks of him left behind.
"Начну с колодца (I'll begin with the well)" says he to himself
He got to the well andd got the bucket to the bottom.
And after checking everything else and making sure that evrything was in the same locations, he decides to go to that better road.
Traveler concludes that "Мои следы ,по крайней мере в моей памяти, все позабоченны ( My trails , at least in my memory, are all taken care off)".
But he asks Telamon just in case "От нас не осталось следов которые могли бы показать что мы были тут с рудника до покинутого населения (Are there any tracks left behind that could show that we were around here from the mine to the abbandonded setlement)"?
Telamon after a very short time of remebering nods.
Traveler than asks "Да в смысле нету следов (Yes in the meaning that there are no tracks)?
Telamon nods.
Traveler now is more reasured and he decides to currently get to the observation to spot observe the setlement for an half an hour just in case if there is something and while going there and find any resources and after all of that if nothing needed is found start looking for other places. The other places being going north along the coast line or south also along the coast line.
And he tells Telamon his plan of current action and reassures it that to doublecheck won't hurt and that it's along one of possible directions to go.
To which Telamon reluctanctly nods.
He also considers going south to the mountains but for now he decides not to do it since currently it's not worth it.
Traveler knows that he could just search in the mountains but he has already done that and the problem are not materials but energy. Metals there were plenty but finding a power source is a whole diffrent story. Everything is not terrible though. Even with helium he could just send ,if he finds it, a baloon into space long enough to make a transmission. The problem is that helium needs special machinery and if there isn't it tends to go to space. The suit does have power but Traveler prefers not to risk it since if there is no power then that means no oxygen generation,and he realised long ago that if he breaths local oxygen then he could spread his bacteria which could mean death to everybody.
The other reason why he doesn't use suit energy is that some part of him isn't optimistic that sateleite would work. he upgraded comunications very well that it should've worked long ago.
But he ,however, prepares for possobility of using the suit's power.
And then he moves out.
After a long walk he reaches the spot and decides to take the final looks with binoculars and Telamon with scanner.
He sees that some ships are docked some are getting back to harbor. Nothing special really.
Settlers move around doing jobs and other activities.
And of course, he and Tell are looking for fighters.
After a little bit of looking, he sees that they are moving north east. But he was wondering that there must be more fighters since someone has to defend the settlement while the 4 are away.
After a little bit of looking he finds that there are extra defenders. He identifies them as such because they have guns. They don't have much focus on malee weapons unlike the original four. Only one appears to have a malee weapon, that weapon being an axe. And that person appears to not have a gun. He also had yellow clothes with traces of black colors and he had a ligthish brown face and black hair. The color o eyes from the angle appear to green.
Traveler then question himself "Является ли этот топор также пушкой ( Could the axe also be a gun)?
The rest all have guns of diffrent sizes.
The second person has a long gun which means the person could be a sniper. But he suddenly realises that snipers are preferably always at range. And If a sniper is there...
He fastly crawls back and scans the terrain.
Telamon questions at first why did Traveler move but realises quickly that he turned probably because he wants to doublecheck and so Telamon checks all sides.
After some looking around Traveler turns and questions Telamon "За нами не кто не следит с любом стороны (Is nobody watching us from any side)?
Telamon looked at all sides and the answer appeared to be that no is watching and because of that it nods.
he then asks "Да в смысле что за нами не следят (Yes in the meaning that no one is watching us)?
Telamon nods.
Traveler after a little bit of thinking then says to Telamon "С нашей координацией я думаю что стоит сделать текстовый чат для тебя если будет возможность "(With our coordination I think that it's worth it to make a text chat to you if opportunity comes)".
Telamon despite the limitations is glad with Traveler's desicion and nods more energeticly.
Traveler then asks " Ты так махаешь потому что рад с моим решением (You nod that way because you are glad with my desicion)?
Telamon nods.
Telamon's response makes Traveler smile a little bit.
Then Traveler says in his head "Даже в такой ситуации в которой мы находимся можно найти позитивность (Even in this situation that we are in, positivness can be found).
then he got back in position and after a little bit of looking found the second group of four.
The one with a long gun has dark grey clothes and grey hair and eyes appear to be brown. But at this range little details like these are hard to guess.
The other two have rouglphy simillar sized guns. The guns are probably a cople of dozen of centimeters in length. Little details of the weaponry are of course hard to identefy.
he looks at one of the wielders of those 2 guns. And the person appears to be have less mass than previous two. And the person appears to be more diffrent than the previous two in little details such as proportions of sizes of parts of body. The induvidual has dark green clothes with secondary grey clothes. The person also has dark green nothing else could be said since the person isn't talking in the direction of binoculars.
And the last person with the gun has similar body proportions as the last one but the height is a little bit higher. The person has lightish green clothes with secondary grey. The hair is lightish green. The person unlike the last one can be more seen since the person is standing front in the direction of binoculars. this person appears to have blue eyes.
Traveler then says to himself "Может эти два последних индивида родственники и третий может тоже иметь синие глаза (Maybe the last two individuals are relatives snd the third one might also have blue eyes)?
But then he realises that similar color of clothes doesn't mean that these 2 are relatives.
After a little bit of thinking he then speculates that they probably have done their shift and the original four take their shift now and the current four are resting because of that.
Then he thinks why all 8 in total have diffrent uniforms since he knows that organizations that specialise in viloent conflicts tend to have uniforms. And they aren't a militia since they appear to be too well specialised and professinal. And yesterday encounters showed that the first 4 are capable of fighting very well. Though it's questionable how the 4 allowed the horde of creatures to get this close to the setlement.
More normal weapons can be explained by diffrent specialities. But gunsword, that hammer and probably gunaxe if it's is a gunaxe are harder to explain.
He then looks at the rest of the setlement if he and Tel could miss something.
He then turns left and sees that Telamon is also observing the setlement.
Traveler knows that Telamon is thinking faster and understands that despite the excetement of studying the setlement he must remeber that Telamon and other things exist. And so decides to cut the time of studying the setlement.
He then says to Telamon "Через десять минут если ничего нужного не найдется то тогда пойдем в другое место (In ten minutes if nothing needed is found then we will go to a diffrent location)".
Telamon nods and then continues to study the setlement.
After looking around and confirming that there wasn't needed things and being further confirmed by Telamon he decides to move out.
He rationalizes that if the original group went north east then south west could be more of a stealthy oprion since running into a group of crazy fighters which include a guy with a hammer a guy shooting from the sword isn't preferable.
Ironicly the hammer guy he considered to be more dangerous now.
But on the other hand north could possibly lead to better location which might be help but he realizes that he is with Tel are highly likely in completly unknown territories with no Vykeen, Gek, korvax or Traveler presence around. Telamon could be hidden but that doesn't change the fact that if they are captured by say a goverment he doesn't have documents and if he doesn't get a talk with a goverment how would people react to somebody unknown with what appears to be combat armor and weaponry.
Traveler concludes that looking for civilasation is not much helpfull unless he goes scavenging.
There is also the fact that societies can organize setlements anywhere as long as climate is that means he must be extra stealthy but that also means scavenging opportunities.
The naval ships were then and now moving in all directions so it doesn't help much. But it meant that there could be trade which means there can be bigger setlements and this appeared to be a mining and agricultural setlement so it means it exports resources to somewhere. And if these places exist then that means that there could be something to scavenge that a society could throw away.
So much choices yet not all lead to one objective.
If that objective is true.
Often time Traveler questions his life. To a normal person his life is quite absurd. Even he himself considers himself to be insane . After seeing so much in life, he sometimes checked the 2 helmets he had in life, if there was nothing in them. The first helmet is still in the ship. And it turned out that the two visors were just that just visors no virtual reality just standart normal glass. And there were no indicators that there is some mechanism in helmets that could make virtual reality. Which meant to him that some unkown chemicals could've caused the insane parts of his life.
But Telamon's existence changes things. Telamon was always there and it reacts to his actions. But what if Telamon is also in the same state? What if it's just some random AI that also has sanity issues?
He then thinks what would happen when he and Tel are able to get off the planet. Just a galaxy is so big and it could be problematic to find Atlas. But he is ceartain that somehow they will be able to find Atlas.
Then he thinks what would happen if they would be stuck here.
He had same line of thinking on home planet. He at that time believed that he would be stuck there forever but, in the end, he got off there.
At least here he could hypothetically leave easier here if he and Tel won't be able to leave. Food can be consumed if it won't kill. Same goes for water. There could be boredom but at least physical needs can be dealt with. Hypotheticly he could integrate with society but he realises that this is a stretch.
The problems are the hostile wildlife and currently where to go next.
As he decides his action and is thinking about these creatures he suddenly imagines concept of crossing of biological horror and the black and white creatures. And well… the concept is certainly menacing.
He hopes that somehow the biological horror don't exist here and especially not to be black and white.
Biological horrors have unkown origins and it's unkown how they spread so much. some consider them to be a biological weapon that went rougue some consider it to be just some predators and the list of theories goes on. What matters is that they are wide spread among the stars and are quite dangerous predators.
Which brings up the point of those black and white creatures. Inter species trait sharing is of course natural but these black and white are unique. But still they are probably just some creatures with unique traits and so can't be judged until there is enough evidence, considering his life experience they are more "normal" compared to other things.
Traveler then muses himself that in search of civilization he choose to stay at a distance from it
Even though he knows the…. Unique bond between him and other Travelers they all are different. They have diffent types of bodies psychology and so on and despite the link they are all islands by themselves. If Lahp is right then it enforces this belief. Seeing someone that looks almost 100 percent like him gives him a better sense of connection than other Travelers.
On the other hand, he realizes he must go to Atlas. And every second counts. But there isn't any connection to Atlas here and nothing is going wrong here.
He realizes that there is possibility that this world could be more advanced ang get the needed tech.
But then he realised that what if the setlement was a distraction? To make sure he doesn't go to Atlas in time. He of course is not 100% sure that this is true but he considers the possobility along the others he came up during his time here.
He then chuckeled in his head "Если вы неизвестно-что или кто думали что я тут останусь, то вы переоцинили мое желание быть счастливым, если вы вобще существуете и если я не совсем схожу с ума и если атлас хотел чтобы я и Тел имели хороший конец или же просто симулировать вероятность (If you unkown what or who thought that I would stay here then you have overestimated my wish to be happy if you exist at all and if I'm not going completly insane and if possibly Atlas wanted me and Tel to have a good end or to just simulate probability)"
And then he turns his head towards the setlement and says to himself that he must return to his pragmatic mindset.
And with that he headed out with his robotic companion again into unknown lands.
Author's notes: to somehow add more words in order to make the time of reading longer and time of posting the next chapter lower, I think that the lore of nms is pretty underrated. Most people show bases, cool planets and so on. And the lore is pretty much abandoned by community. But still the world building is well done because we are the ones that make it.
When new updates come while others are talking about the update, I look at atlas at the end. He is constantly beating and ending in red. And that doesn't change.
And I don't like NMS fanatically either. NMS needs far bigger updates and introduce more storylines and make depth to the ocean that is shallow. I also am not a fan of 4.0 update and its new slot system.
And please don't look what lahp means in google translation. This name I made up randomly.
In other news I formulated a new NMS theory. If someone made it online before than you have the right to say you did it first. I believe with current lore of NMS that there are multiple Telamons. There are recordings of in sentinel update that multiple Telamon's gave Travelers to abyss while some refused. Which states that there are multiple ones. But everybody who searched this know this. But however player Telamon is for now different. Laylaps speaks to it as if it is the version and mentions not dying second time. And during the whole quest Laylaps refers to us Telamon not Telamon. And Telamon didn't respond this whole time. I believe that laylaps can't be trusted. Current Laylaps is at least a version of some previous one. I believe it refers to us that way because some Telamon took over some Traveler. And it thinks that we are the same or similar as that one. And the boundaries failures and base logs Traveler must be reading after meeting laylaps. The Telamon that was in boundary failures was one of Telamons that must've died a long time ago. This leads to conclusion that each iteration has it's own Telamon. Which makes sense. But I also believe that there could be alpha Telamon the one that regulates others. Which means that current telamon in players Traveler is an unkown one and is not the one in the logs.
But that's just a theory.
Also don't worry there will be more action in the story.
My idea of main characters going by themselves, learning the world instead of arriving near protagonist location was inspired by a certain fic.
I decided to choose this language for our duo because when I was first writing I was writing with my in-game character and that means he speaks this language. If he spoke English then it wouldn't be fully him.
Also due to the nature of NMS universe I believe that there should be no language barriers and that evey language in the world can be cannon in NMS since NMS doesn't have hard limitations except for a few names like Atlas Apolo and some more.
And I want to further clarefy the situation about charckter of Traveller. Currently his charackter state can be described as situation with alpha 17 and captain rex from star wars. For those that don't know in clone wars tv show (2008) captain rex was originally supposed to be alpha 17 from comics but George Lucas didn't like that there were too many charckters with names beginning with letter a and so captain rex was made. Here the situation is that I originally had in mind that mc is my Traveler in game but I realized after reading fics with a certain charckter from RWBY that I could make mc not mc. But unlike star wars I still intend the mc to be true to original. So for now I decided that mc is a Traveler that was based off my in game Traveler. But I got a feeling that he will become captain rex and not alpha 17 in this situation. And I understood that I'l be certain only in the end of the fic and so I decided for now definetly to say that the mc is a Traveler based off my Traveler in game and this status can only be changed in the end of the fic.
And I decided to write slow but there will be longer chapters since my writing needs improvement. But at least I made this chapter as long as possible.
And lastly, I'm against of implementation of orbital cannon in NMS, at least in its original form. If it will be just an orbital strike to destroy sentinels and not blowing up planets then I'm not against it. For those that don't know the story started with one guy posting this idea and then the community started to talk about it.
